The pairs are a championship figure skater with a championship hockey player. The hockey players are from league or Olympic teams from th US and Canada. The figure skaters are medal winners in pairs or ice dancing from several different countries. The judges are a mixture of hockey players and figure skaters. It's not as loud and showy as Dancing With the Stars4 -
That cake cooled for over 3 hours, but it did come out in one piece. Made icing and iced that cake and the cake for Vince

Went to church and when I came home, Vince had this diagram of our pool. It’s for digging the pool but it gives the dimension in every 4 feet. It’s really for knowing how to dig for the pool, but if we spread the cover out on the driveway, we think we can use this diagram to cut the cover. Sure will be easier than laying it on the water and then estimating where to cut. Vince even said that maybe we can do it tomorrow. We’ll see. Right now I’d just be happy to get it cut in half.

Our community has slowly been recovering after the heavy rain and wind of Thursday night and Friday. My daughter has been without power since early Friday morning. She came over to our house this morning to wash her hair. We didn't lose power. Hers just came back on late today.

Allie - glad you have a day off to chill. Grief takes different forms, I remember when my mom died I powered through it. When my dog became ill several months later, I really, really broke down. I wondered where that came from.... then realized it was under the surface. Dog got better by the way.
Barbara - cute video of the "firefighters", nice they seem to be animal lovers!! Lucky animals. Wish we'd hear from Wendy again!

Eventful day so far. Yesterday afternoon our old Honeywell thermostat for the heat pump was stuck on hold. I pulled the unit off the wall and replaced the batteries, stuck it back in place and it worked great until this morning, it's stuck on 60 degrees again and no amount of tapping on the "schedule" or "cancel" displays change its mind.. It's probably 9 or 10 years old. Luckily, we only use the heat pump for A/C in the summer and the fan to circulate warm air in the winter, thanks to the woodstove. So, lots to be grateful for.
Anyhow called the heat pump dude and he's booked up until November 14th. Not a biggie - the gal who schedules him said they've been super busy this fall, quite unusual to be booked out that far.
Then gave the dogs anti-itch baths followed up with anti-itch conditioner. I think I got wetter than they did. Will let the groomer do it sometime this month, she's better equipped.

Since home I have been enjoying my eldest son. We have been laughing at funny videos, and today we went to a wonderful ramen shop here in Whidbey island. We shared some melt in your mouth pot stickers, and each had a bowl of ramen. Mine was pork bone broth, with shiitake mushrooms, onions, 3 prawns, half an egg, bok choy, spinach and sliced fish cake. It was heaven in a bowl! I practiced my Japanese with the chef which was the husband of the main waitress. It was a delight!
Then son and I took a nice drive meandering around. Such a nice day.

Michele – I always got the stuck piece when I made cakes, now I cut a circle of parchment paper and put it in the bottom of the pan, comes out with the cake and then it can be peeled off. Works great!
Rebecca – glad you had such a good time, and no weight gain! So I ate a lot of ramen (the packages that back then were 11 cents each) in college, and was happy to have food, but never hugely impressed. Ramen shops are all the rage here and so with a friend went to one a few weeks ago, $15 for a bowl of broth (it was fine) ramen noodles that were not as curly as the ones from college- but the same consistency and flavor, and some slices of pork and some veggies. Don’t get me wrong nothing bad about it, but kinda struck me as something to make with the leftovers from a roast, and certainly not worth $15 so what did I miss? The gal I was with raved and raved, but could not tell me what made it special.

Ended with 350cal over uggghh winter 🥶 go away! Frustrating. Oh well some folks it’s winter others summer that is their worst food munchie moments . I need to stop 🛑 before I munch it’s mind over matter yet keep slipping. Weights staying in a certain area luckily but getting tougher on myself.
Hubby succumbed to a box of 🍪 cookies 🍪 70cal a piece! We’re both struggling but being good in other areas go figure. Eating healthy Brunch y Dinners then bam snack craving ruins us in one minute!

Oh well every days a new day will try hard every day do our best .Exercising more but mainly because JR can’t go outside so more “messes “ as JR puts it proudly lol 😂. Toddlers job to blurt out random things as they make a mess clap because they built a house (a giant pile of toys with a toy person right in the pretend door 🚪). Cousin said her granddaughter same age is doing the same stuff so darn it’s my genes 🧬 shhh 🤫 don’t tell Hubby lol 😂. Her 2 grand babies they stopped listening to the Doctors bam their thriving! Told ya so they don’t know nothing anymore. Went from skin y bones to a chunkie cute little girls ! The way God intended!3 -

Sunday -- we participated in a shorter version of the first ride of the Audax season!! It was a lovely ride, and the organiser and his family put on a good BBQ after. There were about 17 or 18 riders, a good turnout for us, and I think everyone else rode the official 100 km.

Having a relaxed morning. I have a busy week ahead. Just a piece to write for Creative Writing Group tomorrow. I gave them a painting as a prompt. Now I have to write something.
We will go for our usual Sunday visit to DED and grandsons after lunch.

Hello Michele and Kim. I love parchment paper and use it cake, cookie and bread baking. But, with ridged bunts the only thing that works for me is really greasing and flouring of the pan and making sure the cake is fully cooled before I attempt to remove it from the pan. That and loosening the cake as much as I can using a thin rubber spatula. It has been so long since I baked, too much temptation for me, my first few attempts will probably look like my home economics versions (high school) - LOL!3 -

finally got my place all cleaned up... that was an accomplishment.. and makes me feel so much better..
Have a cup of hot tea and enjoying the birds.. i put freeze dried meal worms on my retaining wall early so by the time all the nosey rosies are out its basically gone...first bird morning and night is the male cardinal..think its my dad just checking in
putting a pot roast in the crock pot today ,no vegetables but will put bone broth in..and I have mashed cauliflower with it..

Hi Amber.
It seems like you have been struggling lately. First be kind to yourself. You are doing great with keeping up with your very active son, you are exercising, keeping up a household, being a good daughter, wife, etc. This is all about baby steps.
I found an article about healthy snacking on MFP. Here's the link. Basically we have a tendency to go too low cal and our bodies are not "satisfied". The article provides some tips about snacking. I incorporated some of the tips and have found I am not grazing the kitchen as much.

Of course, with a little one running around it isn't always easy to put yourself in the forefront. I cannot imagine how difficult it must be to plan one's days and meals.

Started a free online course in genealogy I got into this when I first retired but haven't looked at stuff for ages. One of the interesting things was my Dads gfather Robert Wing was from USA and his father was down as an Indian Chief called Read Wing. Frustratingly was not able to verify this. Family story always said he was and my Dads Mum was a little brown skinned lady who looked as though she could have had Native American forebears. Fascinating

Mushroom festival yesterday was fascinating. Beer and wine tasting was entirely too successful Found a Temperanillo I really loved, bought 6 bottles, came home and drank the better part of one. Logged every sip and nibble, came in just under CICO but nowhere near the <250 goal. Time for another week's break from alcohol. [sigh]

Michelle - I haven't made a bundt cake in forever but used to spray and flour the pan heavily and then like the others have said let it cool completely before removing it from the pan.

On Ramen - I too think it is overhyped. It is fine, I will go if a group really wants to, but it wouldn't be my choice. To each their own.

Our handyman texted me last night and asked if he could come hang our Christmas lights today but then didn't reply when I asked what time he was wanting to come so I don't know if that will happen or not. Hi everyone. I was snowed under and then this past few days I was shut out. It took several days to get a new link for a password.
Gained weight! am back up to a high.
I'm between 23 and 24 BMI. Latest research quick online search says women with 19-21 BMI have greatest longevity.
Over the last 2 decades, till about 2 years ago I was definitely on the low BMI, even too low according to charts in mid thirties though I was never really skinny. (always had ample calves and even thighs were never really skinny, and always a bit of butt, and was quite physically active back then).
My mom was 5'2" and 300 + lbs in the 70s when that was not common at all. It was freakish back then. there were maybe 2 women of that weight in a town of 30,000. I know things have evolved since then. Her BMI was over 55.
All the women in my family are rather small and have slow metabolism. I seemed to escape this, for the most part, from early 30s to early 50s.
I had to buy new clothes a month ago and now they are getting tight too.
(though a friend did throw some in the dryer when I was visiting whereas I always wash in cold water and hang dry).
Definitely a shift 1-2 years after menopause.
It's such a busy period I know I won't be able to read many posts.
I'll can possibly start to participate more normally from late December on.
Goal this month: go back down under 59k.
I'll try this: Eat less starch, sugar, fat in evening. (after 5pm), and see how that works.
go to gym 3x a week
walk 30 min per day the other 3 days
Overwhelmed with stuff to do and deal with. Stress at work and in some other areas.
First weekend off in many weeks. I actually met w an admin helper just to help sort out and pay some bills and do some filing. Did 4 loads of laundry. Friend's celebrating his b-day at a café type place today.
I'll read back a bit. nice to catch up.7
