    Yay! Did it!!!! Brought an apple & kind bar. Walked there & back. Significantly better than sitting & eating/talking.

    2/4 💚 family lunch (turned into dinner) - might be tough - will formulate a plan...how to ask them NOT to bring bread basket... calories & carbs high ... WAS tough...will try again next time I eat out with this person.

    Struggling a bit, too. No idea why all of a sudden. I’m continuing to exercise, track all food, and am now trying different ways of spreading my food throughout the day...also dug out my hot teas & some throw blankets.

    I hit my high wt in 2020 on Jan 8
    Today, wt popped up - hopefully for my high wt in 2021 (but >7 lbs lower!!!) curtailing things because I don’t want to have to lose wt again!

    This is Donna. You know me from Just give me 10 days. If it is okay for me to jump in, here are my very sad stats. My climb back up in weight began primarily from the holidays at the end of 2019/beginning of 2020. They really started to climb after the sad death of my sister in April. I spiraled out of control.

    Now it is time to get the control back. I have zero confidence in myself and am newly retired so I have a lot less movement than before. It has been a long time since I have seen the numbers make a substantial turn downward but I am willing to try again. I need to work on my resolve and my commitment to my health again. The battle, at this point, is as much with my mind as it is with my body. And everything is complicated with my diabetes.

    However, I am here and I want to try to challenge myself and this challenge looks like it will help. Thanks for the opportunity!

    Yes, I know you!!
    Learn from my mistake - after a tragic death of a beloved sibling & his entire family, I ate & ate, getting to my highest weight, having to begin taking blood pressure meds & statins for cholesterol. I wanted to numb the pain & I automatically used eating out. I mistakenly felt cared for by food, by the waiters & I wasn’t at home dwelling on the sadness.

    I did not realize grief is emotional AND physical. Sadly, my actions made previous kidney issues get very serious. As you know I eventually needed a kidney transplant & now have to be very careful of germs (and always will need to be) much like COVID precautions. Had to give up teaching my beloved students.

    What I wish I had done? Not tried to deal with it all by myself. (I didn’t want to bring sadness to my school, my friends, etc. Now, I’ve learned that they all knew all along, but thought I didn’t want to talk about it.)

    I wish I’d Sought grief counseling & even PTSD counseling...

    I wish someone had sat me down and said he/they would not want you ruining your health & creating even more victims.

    I wish someone had said “how can I help you?”

    I wish I had asked 3 people to each walk with me once a week.

    I wish someone had gifted me some exercise shoes/clothes.

    I wish someone had suggested we get a weekly fruit/veg box delivered.

    I wish someone had sat me down & had “The Talk” with me.

    I wish someone had said, “How about you just try to maintain this month?” [This is what I finally did. I realized I was gaining 2lbs a month, or 500 extra calories a day. I basically told myself “even if you maintain, you are basically losing 2lbs.

    So, once I was maintaining. Then I tried Very Small goals.

    Eventually started weighing food to get portion sizes down. Eating out less often etc.

    The KEY to all of this is to figure out WHY you want to be healthy. Like deep down. My Big Why worked for me: “To be as healthy as I can be so I can ACTIVELY interact for as LONG as possible with my husband & son.”

    Every time I even think of faltering, I think of that Big Why, make a baby habit change, and stay healthy.

    Note: you have maintained the past 3 months...
    Do you feel like maintaining the rest of January?
    Perhaps take 2 short walks each day with your camera phone! Makes it more fun. Also podcasts like Half Size Me are very empowering. I also call friends and listen to music. Make it Me Time & LOTS of fun!!

    I also need to lose weight to better control my type 2 diabetes which is dramatically out of control.

    My number 1 reason though, is to stay healthy and alive as long as I possibly can so I can continue to help and teach my 24 year old autistic son who lives with me. He needs many more skills before he could ever be independent.

    I will try to focus on these points as much as possible.

    THESE days right NOW (Jan 16-20) are why I’ve posted here all this time. I am working HARD to keep scale under 156, so it doesn’t rise like it did this time in Jan/Feb. I am implementing changes earlier, knowing I don’t want my weight to go up.

    Hoping to have this “under control” very soon.

    I got up to the heaviest I've been in two years this month. Yep. Not since I was in initial loss mode was I this big.

    So, just between you and me, I ~only~ did it so I could come back here and "weigh less than a month ago" for at least a few months going forward. 🀣 🀣 🀣

    Not really.

    But the good news is I've been coming back down since mid-month, and maybe I'm getting a handle on it again.

    @mtaratoot The struggle is real. I have managed to gain back over 30 pounds of the original 80 I lost a couple of years ago. I can give you many valid reasons and a few excuses too, but that is all water under the bridge. I’ve just got to stay focused and make better choices more often and move every chance I get to get some calorie and fat burning going. You and I have traveled this journey together for quite some time in many challenges. I am still here too. We can do this! There is no clock or time limitations on our improvement. I just want to try to keep moving in the right direction no matter how slowly or deliberately that may be.

    I know that was your goal, so

    As the Half Size Me lady recommends. First maintain the higher weight. When you know the exercuse & food that makes that happen, then go on planned dieting (with set begin & end dates) and immediately go back to your maintenance plan in the end date. Maintain the new weight for awhile then plan another short 1-2 month dieting time. Repeat.

    I’m still working on the maintaining rather than creeping up slowly.

    Will decrease calories further this week.

    THESE days right NOW (Jan 16-20) are why I’ve posted here all this time. I am working HARD to keep scale under 156, so it doesn’t rise like it did this time in Jan/Feb. I am implementing changes earlier, knowing I don’t want my weight to go up.

    Hoping to have this “under control” very soon.

    Ugh Cutting more calories. I don’t know what changed but I will do what it takes. The really crazy thing is ALL my labs improved...

    Actually looking back my calories were up, I wasn’t happy, I was chewing faster, eating more salt & sugar & Starbucks.

    You certainly may ask! I'll even answer.

    I use a website that shows a weighted moving average trend. It's called Trendweight (https://trendweight.com/). You can view various time frames. The idea is that it eliminates some of the noise from daily weigh ins, and it's based on a little more than a simple arithmetic mean. A weighted moving average assigns a higher value to more recent numbers since today's and yesterday's weight are more important than ten days ago, but the trend is still important.     The only problem with Trendweight is you can't enter your weight directly. If you have a fitbit that is synced to the Fitbit site, it will populate automatically. I have a Garmin device, so I have to go to the fitbit website and enter my weight there. It also shows a trend, but I don't like the graphics as much.

    I also use a site called Weight Grapher (http://www.weightgrapher.com/). This tool is primarily for women as it can help be less concerned with regular monthly fluctuations.

    I haven't been posting to this thread lately in part because I've been doing poorly at maintaining my weight since November. It's been slowly going up. Every few weeks, I think I've hit top and started back down. This is one of those weeks. Now we just have to see what happens next week because I'm too far out of my maintenance range than I like. The first time I lost "the last ten pounds" it was tough. It's tough this time, too.
