@eleanorhawkins You are not the only one who wants to murder their husband. Mine can be a real, true, humongous A hole with know it all (he thinks) comments for everything. He has been home for 6 days, 6 long days. He went back to work today and I'm like "thank you God, thank you..." I empathize with you...
@LoveyChar LOL! We were talking about one of his friends earlier, who is being sent to work abroad for a couple of months and is dealing with a not-at-all-happy girlfriend. He said "What would you say if I said I was going to work somewhere a long way away?" and then looked all offended when I replied with "Goodbye"
Happy New Year everyone! See you all on the other side!

30 minutes, nonstop, outside, DONE!
As long as you don’t count stopping to cross at an intersection but that was a matter of seconds. Same for walking around a kid on a bike IN THE MIDDLE of the sidewalk...
I have been bridging from 5k-10K-half-marathon-
The 10K trainer app starts me running for just ten minute intervals on day 1. Why is this, when just like a week after that I’ll be jumping from running 30 minutes to 60? Does this seem crazy to anyone else?6 -

I did it! I went out and ran this morning and now have 1200.42 miles for 2019! Today’s weather was very different from what we’ve had the past few days. Although the temp was 34F when I started my run it was very windy and the real feel was 24F.
Highest Mileage Month – November – 134.30
Lowest Mileage Month – January -80.52
@eleanorhawkins and @LoveyChar - If my husband didn’t work shift work (he rotates between 12-hour day or 12-hour nights), I’m sure I would be sporting an orange jumpsuit by now!
Glad you had a successful test run @emmamcgarity. I’m sure tightness in the hamstring is to be expected. Stretch, stretch, stretch!
Congratulations to everyone who met their monthly and their yearly goals and to everyone out there giving it their best! Happy New Year!

Monday night, last run of the year. Was planning 5 miles but only got in about 4 because the bridge at the midpoint of the trail looked like this:So we turned around and ran back to the start, then down towards the bridge from the other direction, which ended up being a little short. That ended up being a good thing because my hip flexor is achy - I think I did it deadlifting with bad form, pulling too much instead of pushing. It doesn’t seem injured, just tired.
The bridge normally crosses about a ten foot wide small creek at the bottom of the gully. I honestly can’t tell if the bridge is submerged or washed away completely. Usually it floats when the water is this level. Anyway, the deepest part is at least three feet deep which is too deep for me to wade when I plan to stop for groceries on the way home!
This run was the first time I’ve been back running technical trails in my Salomons since I injured my Achilles’ tendon last spring! Pleased to report the tendon didn’t bother me. The trails were very mucky and rooty and I did pretty well for being out of practice. I walked a log bridge twice to get across a low place which had turned into a small creek and didn’t die! I have terrible balance and this is a big deal for me.
Also made my December goal of 50 miles, just barely, with 50.7! Since my husband and I have both spent most of the month sick, skipped several days because of weather, and skipped two days because of holiday obligations, I can’t believe we made goal! Not going to make my stretch goal of 60 miles but that’s okay.
Year end report says 1166.4 miles for the year, which is counting our pre run warm up and cool down walks. Again, not bad for a year mostly spent recovering from injury. Hoping to not get injured next year!
How did everyone do on their last year’s resolutions? I completely failed to master the 10k distance, which was my main objective, but I did sneak in a sub hour 10k before being injured, which was one of my goals. And I ended up with some surprises which weren’t on my goal list, like running an ultra! I failed at my goal of avoiding injury, but succeeded in my goal of not giving up running and making it a part of my life which I could more easily balance with other parts. Succeeded at keeping my a1c and BMI within normal range. Not stellar, but a pretty good year!8 -
@emmamcgarity Yeah for getting to run today! I know it's hard, but you are being very sensible about your recovery. Keep it up and you'll be running full steam in no time.
@Camaramandy648 Great job at running 30 minutes non-stop outside. It is different from the treadmill and you have worked hard to get there.
@Teresa502 Good for you for getting outside and running. I opted to run on the treadmill. My mind/body wasn't ready to go from a 72°F run two days ago to one that felt like 30°F! Great total for the year too!
@rheddmobile Sounds like you had a great year, despite the injuries. I see no evidence of a bridge in your picture. That's odd, isn't it?
Today was one of those days that if I hadn't had a goal/plan in place I wouldn't have exercised. I had hoped to run outside, but it was a lot cooler than it has been, and windy. I just wasn't willing to brave the wind chills. So, I made myself do a treadmill run in order to meet my monthly goal. With the warm up and cool down walks, I did a total of 4.0 miles. That puts me slightly over my monthly goal of 50 miles - 52.13 to be exact.
That gives me a yearly total of 505.4 miles. I didn't keep good records when I ran years ago, but I am sure this is a record for me. So, I'm excited.
Highest mileage month was November with 59.47 miles.
Lowest mileage month was May with only 26.31 miles.
On the Seventh Day of Christmas,
My workout let me see,
Seven thoughts of quitting
Six children sleeping
Five hills to run
Four falling leaves
Three black cows
Two tractor tracks
And a sweet bouncing boxer puppy.

I thought i had pretty much decided I DO NOT need to buy new shoes. Based on the appearance of them.
But.
My feet hurt.
My right knee has been getting pained during runs.
My left shin and calf were on fire while running.
My right hip flexor has been screaming at me.
So I need to nail down if it is shoes, form, technique, stride, nutrition, or a rest issue.
Sounds simple enough right ....4 -

Great job on the 30 min! Not sure about the 10K plan, does seem odd.
I’ve set up our team for Run the Year, so when you register just search the team and request to join!0 -

@Camaramandy648 you can't tell when running shoes are worn out just by looking at them. The best way to tell if they need replacing is to buy a new pair of shoes and alternate between runs wearing the old shoes and the new shoes. If the old shoes are worn out you'll feel better with the new shoes. If there is no difference you haven't solved the problem but you also haven't wasted any money because eventually those old shoes will have to be replaced anyway.
I think it's good practice to always alternate shoes (older and newer pairs) just for this reason.
I currently have 9 pairs of shoes in rotation and 9 pairs in reserve.

The last run of the year and first run of my new training plan was in the snow! Okay, so calling it snow is a bit of a stretch, but I did leave footprints!
I, of course, had the problem where running into the snow meant eyeballs getting pelted, or putting on sunglasses which fog up and make you blind. No magic trick has worked to fix that yet. Hrmph.3 -

@AlphaHowls All I've got is "WOW!"
@PastorVincent Way to get out there and get your first "training" run done! I'd call that snow, but I live in TN, so what do you expect? If we got that much, there would be no bread or milk left in the grocery stores. LOL4 -

I used to live in Nashville, and I remember one year we got like 1 inch of snow. It shut the city down for days. It was pretty sad really.

I did not know such a thing existed but then again I could not tell you much of anything about the Steelers either. I only know they exist because of all the signage and vocal fans.1 -

Haha yeah people like football. Especially here in Arkansas because it’s all these people have. Kinda. They’re about to not have that either unless they can get a decent coach!
I enjoy people watching at the games but I am much more impressed by individual sports where the person is competing with his or herself and the battle is in the mind, not on a field.0 -

Not as bad as it sounds. My average cost per pair is just $60. My problem is that I can't pass up a good deal. Considering the fact that I typically just get 300 miles per pair, and taking into account my annual mileage, these would keep me shod for just 4 years.
I've gotten to the point where I have specific shoes for specific terrain or conditions, much like a golfer and their golf clubs.
Recently I found a pair of Saucony Peregrine Ice+ 8 shoes for for just $70. I had to buy them. They will be my go-to pair for snowy or icy pavement in cold temps (below 15F). I tried them tonight and they're great.3 -

I am very loyal to Salomon xr missions. I LOVE them. The stability is amazing and I have not had a single issue with my ankles.
The hard part is finding good information on road running shoes for overpronation because there is SO MUCH info out there.1 -

I ran 4.61 miles this morning. I overslept and so I didn't have time for any more than that. I felt good when I got up, but I still have a bit of a sore throat. I am planning to run tomorrow to start the year off with a run, but I will play it by ear depending on how I feel. If I feel worse I'll either just run a short, easy run or maybe just do some yoga. I'm not going to stress about it. I have been really busy at work the last 2 days and I am so behind on this thread. I will try to read it all, but probably won't be able to do more than "like" and "hug" where appropriate. I do want you all to know that I am really inspired by all of you and grateful for your support. I am very glad to be a part of this group. I met my goal for December and for 2019. My 2019 goal was 1000 miles and I ended up with 1295.2 miles for the year. I think being part of this group helps to meep me going. Happy New Year to you all!
