@auntiebk timer sessions should help. it is sometimes easier to do others' work than one's own. glad to hear you feel somewhat better.
@Machka9 I think contemplating life 10 years in the future is more fun when 10, 20, 30, maybe 40... Yeah who knows what tech will be in 10 years.
@ginnytez you are right of course about just doing it.
@TerriRichardson112 yes it really depends some on if we eat exercise calories back. I put my base really low but eat my exercise calories back.
@machka9 I know, some people retire in Asia or South America... I've gotten so much more tired these past few years, aside from the legal latest retirement age of 67 for the vast number of jobs here, I don't feel I should count on being up to it for more than 11 more years. if I could I'd retire now I think, or at least semi-retire and focus on art stuff. but that has always been my wish/preference.2 -
I went to the gym and for a walk and picked up some groceries and I feel WIPED OUT. I felt like I was light headed or something like that at the grocery store. I don't know why. I did about 25 min on stationary with a few bursts up to maximum target and then long lazy cool down. maybe I was just hungry. I took @Machka9 's suggestion and have been poking around grocery stores looking for different options. I found some full dishes not really low cal but organic and about 300-350 cal with 22 protein and meat and veggies. I tried the first one and it tasted a bit of memories of old cafeteria or school food or TV dinners (not great) but w fresh ground pepper and dijon mustard it's not bad at all. the side of potatoes and butternut squash is good.3

Happy New Year everyone!
Thank you Barbie for keeping us going.
Yesterday was football heaven for me so today it's back to acting like a normal person! The sun is shining and it will be warm-ish, so that's always a plus. I plan to go kickboxing today and work on editing a set of novels. When my friend died in September, I contacted a high school classmate of ours and we have been in close contact ever since. He hired me to edit his books. They are awesome by the way. By the Hands of Men...it's a 6, soon to be 7...book series by Roy Griffis. I've just now started in on book 2.
Michele: back when I was doing a lot of needlework, you could buy patterns for individual letters. It'd be a pain, but you could do that if you can find them. I really enjoy the kickboxing and man is it a workout!
Well ladies, I hope the new year is starting out well for each of you. Getting here daily, or close to daily, is one of my goals for the year. Take care, Meg from Omaha5 -
Yesterday I wrote 5 letters all about 6 pages long, ( just one side). I have always disliked reading handwritten letters where you can see the other side, so I never do it. My own pals seem to follow suit. I have about 15 I write to monthly, and 3 that I am waiting patiently for. Getting to know people thru letters is a fun thing, and it was nice to receive so many Christmas cards from them. I
Yesterday I made some hearty turkey broth and put in 5 small dumplings. Its a long wait, 10 minutes uncovered pot, and 10 minutes covered. My mouth was watering! Patience! They were firm to the touch, a bit dry, like they are supposed to be. Then the inside was fluffy heaven. I made yummy noises when I ate them!
One of my letters was to my youngest. I was good, spoke of our nice Christmas, the tree issue, and general stuff. I did mention that I had texted his CMC and he had said that he was an asset to the team. I didn't scold him, but said that we did need to clarify his cell phone number, or he needed to set up or clean up his mail box because it says its full. I recalled my letter writing to Lee, stating nice day to day stuff, not to get too emotional. Never present problems unless you write that you've solved them. They feel helpless enough. Getting stern with son via a letter does no good for anyone. Just like talking to someone you can't take back what you write, once its on paper its out there.
Well gym time!
Have a great y'all!

Thank you once more, Barbie, for our new home throughout January of a new year, and the beginning of a new decade (unless you start with the ones, and if you do, more power to ya.)
Took ten straight days off to do it, but finally got rested, relaxed and bored. So I wrote a couple grants to get me in good shape for the first week back to work next week, and am learning to weave. Bought a little baby hand-held loom, and liked it enough that Corey and I spent about $20 and built one for me big enough to weave a tapestry. We'll see how all that goes. It's something I can literally do a stitch at a time, so a nice break from work once I'm back full time.
Other than that - not happy with my weight, but am happy with my mental state, and the rest will come when I'm ready. Keto did NOT work for me, in fact, after three straight weeks, and staying completely in ketosis the whole time, I gained two pounds. My body chemistry has always been weird.
However, that's OK. I'm talking to the doc next week, and in the meantime, I'm relaxed, but not eating crazy, and I'll figure things out when I'm ready.
Love y'all,

Happy start of the New Year to you all!
We went out on NYE. Went to a fancy restaurant that was way overpriced, but a nice experience. No need to repeat it. Then we went to the wine bar close to our house and rang in the year with them. We know the owners, the staff and many of the other regulars. They provided bubbly and cake at midnight. It was nice and less than a mile home.
Michele NC - I’m with Jess. Women products are very personal. If they don’t feel comfortable, it just makes that whole time even worse and it's annoying enough as it is. I’d want my own brands too.
Scanning - I have an app on my phone and my iPad called JotNot Pro. You can scan anything and create a PDF, then email it to anyone you want. It has other file formats too. I just rarely use them. It helps me keep on top of scanning because it’s really easy to use and my phone is almost always near me. I also have a large criss cross shredder that gets a lot of use.
Logging and Calories - My goal is 1220, but I rarely get that much. I fast most days from 4pm to breakfast (well, coffee. I eat breakfast later). I don’t eat my exercise calories back. I exercise 5-6 days a week. I also avoid grains and that helps limit the calories significantly, as well as limits bloat for me.
Retirement - I had never intended to truly retire. However, I met a man who has invested wisely and helped me learn to invest, so we have the option. We are still young and I still want to work. I like what I’m doing right now and I can do it from anywhere in the world that has internet access.
Calling loved ones - I used to call my grandpa every 2 weeks. However, I specifically made it different days and times so he didn’t have expectations. I believe it was the correct strategy, because he didn’t get depressed or upset if I wasn’t able to call at a specific time/date.
I started my new year with a 4 mile run and a half mile walk. I also started clearing out more of the “junk” and today have 3 HUGE boxes of clothes and books to give to charity. I also got the mister to clear out his closet. He is giving away an entire wardrobe worth of clothes.
Some of you are starting out the year with some really tough situations. Hugs to you and wishes they improve very soon! Congrats to those who have met or exceeded their 2019 goals!
I enjoy reading all of your posts. I hope to be able to keep up this year!

Heather: Congrats on the alcohol-free day! I look forward to reading your next book when it becomes available.
Rebecca: You are making huge strides in your happiness, stress reduction and health. I am happy for you.
Beth: Thanks for the link to Rachel Paul food blog. We downloaded a FODMAP document that includes loads of information and recipes when DH was first diagnosed. I three-hole punched it and put it into a binder. We use it daily as a cook book. DH is feeling better because we’ve eliminated gluten from his diet. Gluten free breads that we have found at the grocery store are higher in calories than wheat based breads and I still eat wheat-based bread when I make sandwiches for me.
Pip: Thanks for your sympathy for our anxious dog. I think he wasn’t socialized properly as a pup. I’d like to pretend that it is all DH’s fault but that wouldn’t be fair. We brought the pup home and he was a constant companion for DH. They didn’t get out on the road often enough and the pup was anxious any time he was in the car. Now the “pup” is an old dog. He is happy riding in the RV but is still anxious in the car. We have acepromazine, a doggy tranquilizer from the vet, for long car rides. :ohwell:
Michelle: I hope that Denise decides to have PJ’s birthday party in May so that you can have extra time with her.
Rori: The Rose Bowl game was sooo close! Both teams were excellent. I was thrilled when the Ducks won in the last minutes of the game.
Margaret: Our outside decorations were minimal this year. We put a light string above the garage door and another on our deck fencing plus one on the Alberta Spruce Christmas tree that we replaced. It is still alive and well. We replaced it because the pot it is planted in is too heavy for me to lift on my own. DH is not able to help with lifting it anymore. The new Alberta Spruce Christmas tree in the light weight plastic pot will be transitioning outdoors in steps. First step is to take the decorations off and put them away. I hope to start that process today.
Bananas: I used to drink alcohol in the evening along with DH but quit when I realized I was drinking too much. It was putting pounds on me and seemed to be affecting my memory. I am very happy with my decision.
Rebecca: You are a wise woman. I am so impressed with your letter to your youngest son and your wisdom regarding saying things in a letter that can’t be taken back.
I am procrastinating. I should be putting away Christmas ornaments and getting our tree ready to move outdoors. We have a large number of light strings in the garage that were not used this year. I do not like our system of storage and want to make improvements so that future years will be easier to cope with. Wish me luck.

Finished off the dismantling of the Christmas decorations. Now I have four large bags plus a tree bag waiting to go in the garage loft. DH will do that. It's a ladder job.
I'm very happy to be starting the new year with the old decade put away. Usually we wait until Twelfth Night to put stuff away, as do most British people, but this year I got angsty. I've got my spring artificial flowers out and will buy early daffodils as soon as I see them.
My son and DDIL are doing Veganuary. It's most likely her idea. However, I took a leaf out of their book and I'm going to have one day a week vegan. Today I did a vegan chilli. Very nice. I have enough for my lunch tomorrow as well.
DH liked it ok, but beans are not his thing. We don't eat a lot red meat anyway and do eat more fish than most people. I love vegan food, but it does require more thought. Of course, in Brighton and Hove it's all the rage.
Didn't play with my new website today. I am such a coward. Technophobia. I won't do it in the evening as it will stop me sleeping.
The pending conflict in this house is the Bargain Hunt video and audition. Haven't broached it again as I know he doesn't want to do it. Will try to get a definitive answer tomorrow. He was having sleepless nights before about it. I may phone my brother.

Did an extreme strength DVD today. The plan for tomorrow is to take the water class.
Well, I must say that Jess REALLY surprised me yesterday. For the longest time she’d been complaining about the pajamas that Lynette bought her for Christmas, she didn’t really care for Lynette. Last night she told Lynette how much she liked the pajamas and was telling Lynette “we need to go shopping, that shirt is too big for you”. I think she likes big clothes because they aren’t restricting. But they can also make you look bigger. Jess complimented Lynette saying that it looks like she’s lost weight. Will wonders never cease? Maybe it had something to do with the fact that they gave her money and they gave her money when she left for college. Guess she’s really maturing
Marianne WV – I WISH the holidays were over for me. They won’t be over until Sun.
Bananas – IP is an Instant Pot. A while ago I figured out my calorie needs by using the Harris Benedict formula. That’s how I got so precise
I asked Jess what she wanted for dinner and all I got was “I’m not even thinking about dinner”. GRRRR…..just like Vince. In the end, I took something out of the freezer for Vince and I and Jess said that she’d fend for herself since we need to leave early for bowling.
Exercised, stopped at WalMart and should have gotten milk but got veges and oatmeal instead. Then volunteered at the Green Room and went to Food Lion to get milk, came home and made the chocolate dessert, I’ll just put it into the freezer until Sun when I’ll put the whipped cream on top. I don’t know why but I’m sort of pooped-out about Sunday. Normally, I love having company. Maybe it’s because it’s on a Sunday and people have to go to work the next day. Maybe it’s because I made all these plans on Denise’s word that this would be the best day for them, then she tells us that she’s not coming
My weight is…ehhhh I really haven’t gained much at all during this holiday season, only a pound or two and I think that’ll come off fairly quickly.
Newcomer bowling tonight. The soup kitchen tomorrow. Vince talked about moving Jess’ things from one storage unit to another smaller one. It’s interesting…when she first went to Iowa, we mentioned that she may want to get a smaller storage unit and save some money. At the time she said “well, the difference in price for the one I have and a smaller one is only a few dollars”. Now she wants to save those few dollars….lol

Heather - I purchased my domain through Go Daddy and they have a website builder. I did just a very quick page with the company name, contact information, and a very quick synopsis of my business. I don't really need a website, but at the time, I thought I may so I did a quick one. It took me about 10 minutes. They will also help walk you through it on the phone (I think for free since they host it).3

Hi ladies I'm thinking of taking down our Christmas decorations tomorrow, or at the weekend. I usually wait until 12th night but want to get "back to normal"
I'm feeling a lot better thanks, I went out with Heather on a dog walk yesterday and really enjoyed being out in the fresh air (I was well wrapped up) the weather wasn't too bad, cold but sunny and bright. I was glad to get home though I was getting tired.
On New Year's Eve we'd kept the cats in, poor Leah (the dog) was shaking under Heather's bed when the fireworks started. Thankfully they only lasted about an hour, although there was the odd one just as I was dropping off to sleep Grrr! Why do they have to make them so loud!
Now I'm feeling better I want to finish painting the kitchen and buy the flooring. I've had to contact the plumber this evening, there's a leak under the kitchen sink, think it's the pipe to the washing machine. I hope he gets in touch soon, not sure how long it's been leaking, but some tea towels I had in a basket were quite wet. I'm still working out where to put things, I keep changing things around. Think I may need to send some cups to the charity shop though, there's only 3 of us and there's a full shelf of cups/mugs. We all had a new mug or cup bought for us at Christmas too. I have different sizes a small one for first thing on a morning for a quick cuppa before going on the dog walk. I have a large one for when I need it and quite a few normal sized mugs. I definitely need to let go of some of them. In fact that could be my words for 2020 LET GO! So much I need to let go
Well it's getting late so I'd better say goodnight.
Love to all

Thank you friends for your kind thoughts and prayers. This morning my daughter is packing and is still planning on moving here to OK and has a job interview Monday afternoon at a large CPA firm in OKC.
The pictures below remind me of why "constant" is my word for 2020. They remind me that living a healthy lifestyle is so much better than life was in 2012 when the first picture was taken. This was about a year and a half before I had bariatric surgery. Second picture was 2019.
Love you my friends

Katla I used to put lights along our garage. DH put screens in the gutters and I have to get on a ladder so I no longer do that. Our lights are along a railing and a window sill and then I have a deer, an angel, two spiral tress, and some little birds figurines. Just enough to make it festive but not so much that it is hard to store them or put them up and take them down. I got the angel at Target two years ago for 90% off. She was $10. I figured if I only used her once she was worth it. I got a fawn that I keep inside for $5 the same year.
The flocked trees and the tree next to the angel I got at 90% off too so all those small cost me less than $15 for all of them. It was nice to update my decorations for so little. The little birds I got last year. They were a bit more. They were the displays and cost me about $30.5 -

Thank you Katla! I have done all that I can do. Letting go, coming to terms with the fact that he's making strides in the Navy, ( passed his 3rd Class test), so I have to look at it a different way. That all during his upbringing, we loved enough, supported enough, and now he's just on his own happily. That he doesn't communicate doesn't mean love doesn't go back and forth. I guess I should thank my lucky stars that he isn't dependant on us for anything.

Me too ... it was something of a shock moving to Australia! I had my mother send me things from Canada for a while, and finally after about a year, I was able to find one product I was familiar with.Scanning - I have an app on my phone and my iPad called JotNot Pro. I've seen something like that recently for my android phone too. Good idea.Retirement - I had never intended to truly retire. However, I met a man who has invested wisely and helped me learn to invest, so we have the option. We are still young and I still want to work. I like what I’m doing right now and I can do it from anywhere in the world that has internet access.
And that is what I would really like to end up doing! Working from anywhere in the world.
My husband and I were very fit and active and he intended to work past his legal retirement age of 66.5 until 70, or beyond if he could. We are becoming more fit and active again, but he has been told by a neuro specialist that his chances of working again are next to none.
My dream would be to move to Canada, near my family, and to be able to work from home or wherever we travelled. Theoretically, I could do my current job from home or wherever there was internet access, and a few people do, but for some reason they're reluctant to offer that to more than a small handful of people.bananasandoranges wrote: »@machka9 I know, some people retire in Asia or South America... We spent about a week in a small town in Taiwan and I was pleasantly surprised how inexpensive things were there and how good the cycling was ... it could be an option.
And yes, in an ideal world, I'd love to come into a couple million and be able to retire or semi-retire now. I'd focus on cycling and other exercise, travel, photography, my website, and whatever else caught my fancy.

There's a question in the Fitness Forum:
What was your surprise accomplishment for 2019?
Mine:
Probably the half marathon I ran last January!!
I'm a cyclist, especially a long distance cyclists ... I've dabbled in running now and then, but didn't really expect to ever actually run anything as long as a half marathon!

Anyone else?
