February 2020 Monthly Running Challenge

4 miles today. I did some speed work. 1000m x 2. I decided to aim for a 10:30 pace, being conservative and all since I haven't done speed work since May. Um, I hit the 9:30 pace that I didn't think I could (9:25 and 9:39). LOL

Treadmill run on the fancy treadmill at the gym again. Did a run on Easter Island that was hillier than I expected. Kept me on my toes when it got up to 16% incline at one point. The rest was not too bad. Definitely a better workout than my usual treadmill slog.
I did my 3D body scan, and the results were kind of depressing to me, honestly, weight and body fat percentage-wise. Time to tighten up the food intake again, I've been seriously slacking and thinking I exercise enough for it not to matter too much. Not true! But there were good results in there - bicep muscle growth!

Did you reach out to support at Strava and ask?
Yes, will update you all when I get an answer
I requested to follow one of them, with no Strava history... you have stalkers. I didn’t see that they were part of this group either. You can unfollow me or revoke my following and I can tell you what I see if ya want.
Now they have disappeared. It was funny though - I get notifications when anyone else gives kudos, but nothing for these.
Apparently that chat box thingy on Strava that I wrote my question to was automated as well and gave me a bunch of articles that didn't answer my question either. One was close, but said I had to also set "Profile Page, Group Activity and Activities" to "Followers only", or else summaries of activities will be visible to others... except I already have my settings exactly that way. Working on a support ticket now.
Today and tomorrow are rest days, I'm trying to get caught up on work but am distracted.

Good to see you back at a comfortable 5k @emmamcgarity and if @katharmonic was not happy at the 3D scan results I dread to think what mine would be!! Apparent the local Uni also have a 3D body scanner that you can use for free though I don't know if that is for faculty and students only. Need to find out.
Last night was wierd. Planned 8.3 miles, didn't feel like it BEFORE I started with bits of me aching, I had been fine all day though. Two miles good pace, three miles slow as I adjusted my gait as my back started to feel odd, train journey, just over a mile reasonable pace and then my brain had a full on teenage strop at 10k and went 'No more running, that's it, stop NOW!", the logic part of my brain was saying that I still have 2 miles to get home whether I walk or run but nope, walking it was.
I decide to cycle in today to give those muscles a rest

Yeah, the automated chat is worthless you need to reach out to the actual support people. Here are the directions:

Drizzly, low 30s, with a light breeze out of the northeast. We had rain, freezing rain, sleet, and snow last night, but the running surfaces were surprisingly ice free - better than yesterday. The ice on the foot bridges was bad, so after running them on the way out I dodged them on the way back. No sense in tempting fate.
Next year when you pop in here claiming your December 2020 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs
Run at least 4 5k races
Get a 5k PR
Average at least 138k per month, to meet my Run the Year pledge of 1,020 miles

Woke up and wasn't expecting anything and not even sure why I looked outside so early this morning, but there was a dusting of snow on the ground, so pretty in the dark and also so pretty with the sun shining on it. Surprised it stuck this long.
High of 50 today! Going to get out, got out yesterday and ran 4.2. Felt good!4 -

@noblsheep You and your country doing okay? Dh says there was a rise here and suddenly the updates stoped. Old news perhaps, or censorship. Hope everyone is well and stays that way.
Hey. We're fine. Us non-infected bunch are fine anyway, the whole country is firmly staying put at home avoiding all face-to-face interaction if possible.
There were upwards of 28,000 people in the other camp this morning though. Updates still happening every
day, and very little censorship (comparatively). Maybe your DH's channels lost interest? If you're interested in a different side of the story, you're welcome to come read (and laugh at) our national central media's English page here.
I did get a run in yesterday. I woke up at 5am and was unable to go back to sleep. I was feeling pretty depressed after a full 10 days without a run, so I thought there's probably nobody out there at this time of day, why not a 5km shakeout? So I did, and feel much better now.
I've been doing strengthwork and HIIT at home nearly every day, but no way they can compare to the therapeutic affects of a good run. Here's to hoping I won't need to wait another 10 days for the next opportunity to pound pavement.14 -
@TheMrWobbly Smart man! I won't waste my time with it.
I like the tracking aspects, and realize that as a free app, I am the "product". My data, my attention to ads, etc are the things generating profit for them. Same with logging our food and exercise on MFP, same with other social media sites. That's why I only have a few followers. I know that despite my limits, I'm still sharing a LOT of info here as well, straight up on the internet with no privacy filters at all. And I get that the Strava military thing was mainly people not following the rules and/or not understanding the privacy settings, and that this could be an error on my part as well. But if it's on their end, I'd definitely prefer for them to not be leaving private details open to dating-site bots. We've gotta have *some* standards, after all

I ran 3.5 miles today at lunch. It was too cold this morning for me at 20°F feels like 14°F plus the roads and the sidewalks were still icy. But the sun came out and I did go into work today (I went in late since my boss couldn't get down the hill where he lives). By luchtime it was still pretty cold at 38°F feels like 31°F, but I figured I would suck it up and run anyway. I'm glad I did. It was a nice run with lots of snow still on the ground. I changed my route a little to avoid some slippery looking sidewalks, but the streets were pretty clear. And there was still a lot of snow on the ground so it was pretty. I wish I could have gone a little further, but I only had a limited amount of time. I could have run later, but I'm glad I ran when I did.
@TheMrWobbly I'm so sorry to hear about your race. I had a half cancelled due to weather in May and it was very disappointing.

Exactly. Well said.1 -
So yesterday I did the make-up run for the half marathon I have scheduled for Sunday. Let me just say it's really, really hard to run a race without the rest of the competitors. Fortunately, I had a friend run with me as a pacer and she helped me maintain a good speed, and another friend on a bike taking on the roles of marshal, water boy, and cheerleader. Without them I would have been significantly slower.
It was a public holiday here so the roads were super quiet, with the exception of numerous cyclists - we're talking here of several pelotons of 20-50 riders, plus singles and pairs - several hundred bikes in total. They were by and large friendly and polite and didn't force us into the ditch. We saw maybe 20 cars while we were running on the road (20.8kms of the 21.3) which was great.
We headed off to the start when it was still dark in an effort to beat the heat, however, a cool change had come through the day prior so it was a very pleasant 14 degrees (34˚F) with low humidity when we started, and by the time we finished at 9am, the clouds had rolled in blocking direct sunlight and it was only 20 degrees (68˚F) (two days prior it was an overnight low of 24 (75˚F) and super humid).
The course was waaaay hillier than I expected - I knew there were hills but they had been described as rolling. These were a bit more than that. Bonus was, the final kilometre was a very steep downhill so we finished at pace.
I haven't been running as much as usual because of achilles problems and my fitness has dropped. However, I still managed a sub-2 hour, and given the hills, that's pretty good.
Pics courtesy of friend on bike, who can also add photographer to her long list of duties! (I'm the one in white shorts).
Such a beautiful part of Auckland, Coatesville is about half an hour from the city - hubby and I are currently looking at lifestyle properties here...
At the finish line!19 -

Sounds like my weather (Phoenix, AZ) this week (minus the humidity, we rarely get that except during monsoon season).

@ContraryMaryMary
Woo hoo! Well done! Love coatsville!
Queen was awesome! The atmosphere was electric, as was the music. It was fantastic, and had a great time. So tired.
This morning I had a gentle 3k, just to keep things going. Its getting a bit darker in the morning, so I got out the noxgear. Took a little of work to get the "straps" sitting right, but it was great!

@ContraryMaryMary sub 2hr HM is fantastic! Especially with a hilly course!
I've been slacking the last few days (running wise). Work as been crazy. Weather has sucked. Home life has been stressful. But all those are just excuses.
I got out this evening for 4 miles. It was cold (for me...40F, 17mph wind). But felt good, no pain, and was happy.7 -
@noblsheep glad to hear you are well - it must be a scary and surreal time.
@TheMrWobbly I'm sorry to hear about the cancellation of your race! That wind would be insane.
@ContraryMaryMary congrats on running a half marathon on your own and sub 2-hours! With hills! Awesome job!
@Avidkeo - I bet that concert was amazing. I would love to hear Queen - well, the original Queen, but this version would be really fun too. Great job with your streak too! We're almost the same, I'm at 51 days.

I woke up and the dog and I made bathroom trips around 4 am and I saw that it was snowing and had accumulated a fair amount already. I knew a wintry mix was expected so I got a little hopeful that I would wake up in another hour and find out the gym was closed and the university was closed for the day and I could just stay in my pajamas and work from home. This dream was not to be.
So I dragged myself out while it was still dark and did my workout and went to work like a big girl. It was another minimal run day on the treadmill as a warm-up before strength training. It was a tough training day today, and I had to contemplate whether I hate touchdown squats or burpees more. I can't choose, they are both brutal in their own special way.
I got a few things off my to-do list at work today and I feel a tiny bit of weight off, so I'm looking forward to a little less stressful weekend, especially if I can get a good amount done tomorrow too. I'm planning on rock climbing and maybe a snowy hike in the Adirondacks, depending on how the weather turns out.7
