2/1 - 3.1 miles
2/2 - 13.33 miles
27.43 miles for the week (16.43 in February)
2/3 - Weightlifting
2/4 - 2.5 miles (25:00), was supposed to be 6 miles but I had to cut it short and I'm not thrilled about it. Going to have to make the mileage up over the rest of the week...
2.5 miles for the week so far
February To-Date / Target = 18.93 / 129 miles8 -
My running goals for 2020 are to build up endurance and speed while staying healthy. Strength goal - lose body fat and gain some muscle and work on flexibility.
February goal : 60 miles
Race: Cap 10K in April
Date/Distance:
2/1 - Yoga/strength day
2/2 – 7.1 miles
2/3 – Slow Flow Yoga
2/4 – 4.2 miles
Monthly total – 11.3 miles
Switched my run to today with warm weather because tomorrow we are going to drop and get some sort of odd, white stuff falling from the sky. Not a common thing down here in TX! I do not love the “dreadmill” but may have to do some miles on it the next few days.❄🙄

I was planning to run this morning but my knee is sore so maybe not. Regardless of that it is cold and really windy outside. At 8am it is only 44F and 38F with windchill! In So CA! This is crazy. Typically when we have Santa Ana winds they are hot and dry so this is really unusual for us. Tomorrow is going to be worse, looks like it will be 32 with the windchill but the winds won't be as bad.
I just went out with Hobbes and had to rescue his agility tunnel. We had put up a course for him yesterday and the tunnel was coming unmoored and blowing around. Felt like it was attacking me and Hobbes was sure it was 🤣
@MegaMooseEsq - yea for 3.99! I don't have to deal with ice and slipping but I am definitely more prone to tripping and falling when walking than when running and more so on the sidewalk than on the street or a path
@mbaker566 - I have found Asics to be the most narrow then Brooks and the Saucony and I can't wear any of them. I think Altras are wider than all of them or maybe they are just wider in the toe box where I need it. Topos are similar to Altras in the toe box but I find the heel is narrower so they fit better. Congrats on registering for your 50k! Guess we really need to nag you to run, run, run!5 -
2/1 10.03 miles
2/2 14.12 miles
2/3 14.46 miles
2/4 14.2 miles 645 days on the run13 -
February Goal: 100 Miles
2/2: 10.05 miles
16.07/100 miles completed for February
126.33/1000 miles for Run the Year Team Pavement Pounders
I ran 6 miles this morning. It was a pretty good run. I was expecting it to be about 57°F this morning and a cold front coming in later today, but the winds had already shifted and it was colder than expected at 45° feels like 38°-40°. It was good for running though. Now it is colder and kind of misty. We are expecting snow which I am hoping we don't get, so I don't know if I will run tomorrow or not. It will really depend. Part of me wants to be a badass and run in the snow, but most of me knows that if we do get snow it will probably be icy as well and I don't want to fall on my *kitten*. So I will just play it by ear. It's hard to believe that it was 80°F on Sunday. Gotta love Texas weather.
@shanaber Great job on your race and loved the report.
@emmamcgarity Glad your hamstring is healing so nicely!
@autumnblade75 Nice looking car! Glad you found one. I hate the car buying process, but it is so nice to get a new one when the old one is on it's last leg.
@mbaker566 50K! You got this!
@Tramboman I hate when it is perfect running weather on rest days and then bad weather on run days. I'm kind of thinking I should have run yesterday since tomorrow is predicted to be so bad.
2020 races:
5/16/20: Run for 57th AHC Half Marathon6 -
yes, nag a way.
no one here does. they think i'm crazy.

Speedwork today followed by some strength training.
Getting ready for the 10K + race on Sat.
@mbaker566 Wow, good for you!
@autumnblade75 Nice set of wheels
@kgirlhart @Tramboman Same here - yesterday was perfect and of course my rest day. Lol
re wide shoes - yes, I've been wearing Brooks for the last 2 pair, and they are wide. The new New Balance ones I have are not as wide, I've been lacing them different and they seem to be ok. But I'm with you ladies, I need a wider toe box for sure. Especially now with my neuroma.

Ran today with a speedy friend. First half I was chatting away, but I think I got less conversational as we went, haha. It was a great run though.
I'm trying to front-load my week and then take Thursday-Friday to rest before Saturday's park run and night race. So I also swam 1000m yesterday and biked 12.5k today in addition to running. Is it bedtime yet?
February goal 100 miles (stretch goal 200 km)
Upcoming races:
Feb. 8 - Lublin night 10k10 -
@autumnblade75 congrats on the car. I know what you mean about "wasn't even on my 'makes and models to consider' list". More than once I have gone into a dealership with one or two models in mind, and drove away with something completely different. I guess I'm a pushover for a good deal. But most of the time it has worked out. Good luck with yours!
Right? I was specifically hoping to find something that worked in BLUE!
I think we just hadn't run across any of them on Cars.com in my price range. There are 14 others listed in a 20 mile radius, but they're all priced higher than mine, and I actually paid more than I really wanted to spend. Probably not more than I can afford, but I like to budget for the inevitable repairs.PastorVincent wrote: »quilteryoyo wrote: »@autumnblade75 Glad you found a car that you like. It looks really nice. Not sure why they would have a backup camera without a screen though. I love my back up camera. I can parallel park now. LOL
Some cars use the rearview mirror as a screen for it.
The backup camera is definitely something that was added on later, by one of the 2 owners. The mirror doesn't function as a screen. This car is very basic in terms of extras. The manual includes instructions for operating the "heater (if so equipped)" and thankfully it is. There's a working radio, and it appears that a phone may be paired with bluetooth. I can also play music from an aux. jack, or a USB connection in the glove box. But there isn't even Cruise Control. I am pleased by the absence of a screen for the backup camera. I will be more pleased when I absent the camera from the car, as well. Did I mention that the rims (but not the tires) are the same size as the Aveo's? I'll be stealing my full-sized spare back from the trunk, and having a new tire mounted on it. It's a very economical 3 cylinder motor, and averages 38 mpg. The rear brakes are drums - but I can't have everything.
Thank you to everyone else who congratulated me and commented on the awesome green color.
I'm procrastinating about today's run. It's the long one. 15 miles. I need to go make it happen.

@mbaker566 Congratulations on signing up for a 50k! Big, big deal! I'm looking forward to reading/seeing your experiences with training and race day! Please do divulge...
@autumnblade75 Loving the cute car and the green is gutsy and beautiful for a ride!0 -
marisap2010 wrote: »@ContraryMaryMary Your 7 year old is going a tri? That is crazy! What are the distances for each section- just curious?
It’s the Weetbix (cereal) Tryathlon, designed for kids between 7 and 15. They’re held all over the country over summer. The 7-year-olds swim 50 metres, cycle 4km, and run 1.5km. It’s certainly challenging for the younger ones but they love it. They get a t-shirt, swim cap and gear bag, and a medal (and breakfast if they want it), there’s loads of support, including a bunch of elite athletes, and hundreds of very excited, if somewhat nervous, kids competing.14 -

Plus they get to say they competed in a triathlon! That is so cool!3 -
That didn't go quite as well as I hoped. I need to go slower on long runs, not psych myself into thinking I can just keep going further at the speed that challenges me for slower runs. I should run the shorter runs slower, too, I think. I managed 8 miles before my brain defeated me. I'll just try again tomorrow.
Slower.

2/2 - walk/rest
2/3 - C25K week 4, day 3 complete
2/4 - walk/yoga
Yesterday the weather was perfect! Usually this time of year it's snowing and freezing in Ohio, but yesterday was like spring - sunny and 60 degrees. It definitely felt different not starting out cold. Not bad, just different.
I am also doing yoga for the first time, since I wanted something to do on my rest days, and it is HARD. Much more difficult than I thought. My arms are not used to holding me up for any length of time, haha. I am finding that it helps with the soreness from running, which is super nice!10 -

Oh, @Camaramandy648 now I get it! That's pretty high up, I can't blame you for wanting to get down from there. But I'm sure it's fun - I'd love to try it.
@shanaber sorry to hear your knee is sore today. Hope it's not too much of a setback.
@polskagirl01 I do that all the time with my speedy friends. It works for a while to chat and hang with them, then I fade out. It's a good push though! I hear you on being ready for bedtime too.
@mbaker566 - 50k! Exciting goal!
@ContraryMaryMary that kids' triathlon is very cool. How exciting for you kiddo, and brave to be up for it.

My Tuesday night mace class is on hiatus for two weeks so I decided to try to get to the gym in the morning today rather than after work. I like the idea of getting a workout in early, but lack the willpower to execute that plan most of the time. And I wanted to go to a yoga class that I usually can't make it to but definitely need for stress management purposes.
I nearly turned off the alarm, but I did make it to the gym only about 15 minutes later than planned. I ran on the treadmill for the two miles, but in the middle of it I did 5-minute intervals each on the stairmaster and Jacob's ladder. Then I did pull-ups and went to yoga, which was a nice stretchy class today.
My trainer asked me if I'd participate in "study" about mace training so it sounds like we'll do the 3D body scans before and after a few weeks of mace workouts. I may be sorry I agreed to this. (I say study in quotes because it doesn't seem very official or well-controlled from a scientific perspective, but I support the concept and of gathering some data so I'm in). I didn't have time to get my body scan in today so I'll do that tomorrow. I haven't done one for maybe 6 months or more so it will be interesting/revealing (always revealing - it shows every lump and bump!)

I'm not an expert and you're not a child but I'll tell you what I told my 13 year old when she ran with me the other night and thought she would fly by me only to get winded and stop up ahead and want to rest. Then when I caught up to her, she was done in for having pushed too hard to fast but I pushed her to run again to teach her a lesson. "Pace yourself, this is an endurance run" and it wasn't. It was 3 miles but compared to her daily one mile gym run, it was... Turbo speed is great for sprints or if you plan to stop. Otherwise slow and steady wins the long race, I believe. I'm not sure if she gets endurance, steady and pacing but she'll figure it out.
Nice job on the 8 miles! And congratulations if that was a milestone...1 -
@katharmonic Is it risky? What are mace workouts?0

Today is cross training day for me. So I did a Leslie Sansone video this morning and am now tending to sick kids. They are teenagers and mostly self sufficient. So I’m just making sure they take meds and trying not to catch this cold/flu/plague from them. The weather here is also predicting cold weather on my scheduled run days. They even floated the possibility of snow flurries Thursday morning. That’s crazy talk for southeast Texas. I’ll be surprised if it actually reaches Houston.
@mbaker566 woot! Excited for you!
@autumnblade75 super cute car! I love the green!
@contrarymarymary what a neat event for the kids!

The weather forecast faked me out! I had to make a decision about whether to run later in the afternoon by 11 am, and at that time it said 90% chance of thunderstorms. I will run in rain but not in lightning. So, 3 pm arrives and not only are there no storms, it’s not even raining! But by then I had committed to other activities.
I may go out later tonight in my neighborhood or I may not.6 -
@sulwen314
I agree! I added yoga 2 years ago to force myself to stretch and gain flexibilty. It really helped with my plantar fasciatis too. But it is a strenght workout for sure and in the right class, can be a total cardio class. Lots of good things and a great cross train. And I love the mindfulness aspect - forces me to let "that s__t go" for an hour a day.

Skipping a few posts.
Got up early, Ran 5k, drove 5hrs now getting ready for Queen!
Packed my bag and realised that most of my gear is running gear. It's an illness isn't it. Sigh.
Aiming to do a minimum of 10k tomorrow, after a decent lay in - like around 7am probably. Like @ContraryMaryMary the humidity is insane. It's either first thing or not at all.

@katharmonic Is it risky? What are mace workouts?
@LoveyChar it's not risky, it's just a type of strength training (except for risks like when I whacked my knee with the mace a couple of weeks ago). The mace is a steel rod with a heavy ball at one end - an offset weight. Like medieval weapon mace, but no fighting! It's a full-body workout that you do with lots of squats, lunges, overhead work, etc. Definitely works the arms and shoulders/back though to be swinging that around.

Thank you. I'm training for a marathon. Not my first. I just need to relearn everything - probably the hard way.
For the record, the run intervals were about 20 seconds faster per mile than my usual - but I don't usually walk at all. Not anything I would call a sprint. This is how I'm attempting to fine-tune. There may be a better way, but I'm stubborn. I need to harness it to work for me, instead of against. I do know that in the past I've run for 5:30 and then walked for :30. Yesterday was 9:00/1:00. I think I'll try keeping at regular speed, then, and allowing the walks to lower the average. If that doesn't work, I'll shorten the intervals. If that doesn't work, I'll have no choice but to slow further. Today, I'll walk whatever portion I can't force myself to run. Running slower will be faster than walking the last 5 miles. Hopefully.

Last night was my Body Pump class followed by 1 mile on the indoor track. I am supposed to run 4 today, but I am having refrigerator issues, so between work and coordinating a repair, as well as avoiding storms that are coming later, I do t know if I’ll get it in. We’ll see.7

My goals for 2020 are to stay injury free and healthy. I am also possibly going to try again for my first half marathon.
February goal : 70 miles
Plan goal: 76 miles
2/1 - 6 miles
2/3. - 3 miles
2/4 - 2 miles
2/5. - 2 miles
Monthly total - 13 miles
Day 2 with new shoes and no knee pain. *sigh* This sport is getting expensive. I calculate I will need 2 more pairs just to get through my half marathon training plan and the race itself. I need to make sure I get matching colors so my husband doesn't notice LOL.
Races:
March 14:
St. Malachi 2 mile and 5 mile
May 16:
Cleveland Marathon Half and 5k
June 13 - 14:
Run and Ride Cedar Point 5k and Quarter Marathon
September 20:
Cleveland Hero's Run 5 miler
December 5:
Santa Hustle Cedar Point 5k6 -
Ran 12k, moderate pace. But I'm more concerned about the random girls in bras who gave me kudos on Strava to two different activities. They don't appear to log any activities other than promoting their dating site, and are listed as being far, far away from me in California. My activities clearly say "Only your followers can view this activity..." I reported their profiles but HOW THE KITTEN DID THEY EVEN SEE MY WORKOUTS? Ugggh.10
