Heather: Keeping my fingers crossed that you don’t have wind damage today, and that you’re able to watch your TV programs.
SuziQ: You are absolutely right that nobody really knows what the future holds in store for us.
Ani in TO: Welcome!!!
Pip: Nice car! Lead feet run in our family. We do okay in town but we use cruise control on the open highways to stay within the speed limits.
Karen in VA: Yes, I figured out that it was Irish Terri.
Rori: I’ll have to look through my family albums to see if there is a photo with Peter Cat that I can copy and upload. Her mama was a Siamese and her daddy was a black neighborhood tomcat. She had the body and build of a Siamese and her daddy's black coat.
Irish Terri: Brilliant and true. I try to do this too. “Heather: At our age, death is an ever present worry. But I choose not to dwell on it too much. I have a very fatalistic view on life. Things will happen whether I worry about them or not, so why waste my time and energy angsting over what lies ahead. I give thanks every morning when I wake up, and endeavour to make the most of whatever turns up.”
Barbara: Regarding high water mark in the fireplace: The year these town houses were built there was a massive flood on the Columbia River and its tributaries in Western Oregon and SW Washington. The Bonneville Dam managers goofed up and let too much water out of the dam, and that resulted in massive flooding when the tide came in. They had forgotten to take tides into their equation. All of the townhouses under construction in this development got wet inside, as did a lot of homes along the Willamette River and its tributaries. We lived in Tualatin then and our house there was never in danger. We can still see a highwater mark in our fireplace here. There were also lives lost in Western Oregon as drivers tried to push through flooded low-lying places and some people drowned in their sunken cars on roads along the Willamette River. It was a bad time in Oregon and SW Washington. We’ve had high water a couple of times since we moved here, but it has never reached the top of the river banks. :noway:
Heather: Edie is lovely. The shape of her face reminds me of yours. Two beauties!
I have a riding lesson today at noon. YAY!!!

Hi everyone! I’m three weeks in using MFP app. I’ve always followed weight watchers so counting calories is a first for me. I’m 55 and have been on a yo-yo with WW since I was 14. I recently went to a hypnotist. He is the one who told me about this app and counting calories etc.
I’m looking for friends here for support and kindness. I live in CT. I LOATHE exercise but I want to be healthy and able to play with my grandkids once they arrive! I’ve a feeling within the next three years there will be at least one!!!
Anyone out there that has similarities in my story?

Yogi’s 1st car ride8 -
Luci- I was similar my friend too age wise, but Daughter y JR are a bigger difference Daughter was in the Navy at early 17yrs old was helping recruiter sign folks up to help her career folder 📁 ahead of time y finishing Highschool (her birthday at the end of school so turned 18 shipped out graduation 👩🎓 time litterely a month or two after I had him. ). I was called geriatric so many times I called the Doctor old man y geriatric until he got mad told me to stop . We finally agreed on not using the word if he forgot I’d start up again. Kept him quiet, but didn’t start it till near the end wish I had pestered him earlier!
Hubby older than me so he’s been 40 our whole stuff on to be 5yr marriage. I’m only a few years younger he calls me millennial to upset me. He finds himself cute...luckily I do too.
Not sure if she’s found the community pages yet but she has made an account ,logged exercise once,y figured out how to send a message y comment on my news feed so she’s getting there. With a 2yr old not much time in the day to conquer it quickly. She’ll find us soon enough I bet.

Figuring out my meal plan for hubby y me. Ugghhh made the meals higher calories this time so less snack Cals left! Figuring it out so we get 1 mini granola,2 peanut butter granola balls,y 14 pretzel crisp chips . Add a Gatorade zero or water this is a good snack.
The meal highest calories almost 450 range
Shrimp 🦐 in garlic butter garlic powder pepper, oven plain no seasoning baked (in water bottom of pan) ,lettuce, apple 1/4th, maple glazed salad topping a spoon 🥄 duo sprinkled, onion 1/16 but recorded as 1/8, carrot 🥕 1,cut up into dimes placed in it.
The other dish same but no shrimp 420cal range instead a hamburger helper pasta with no butters, unsweetened almond milk just a little ,lots of water so lower calories. Maple bites melt when heated so yummy 😋 salad flavoring
Only heat 3minutes every meal. Except this snack
Amber Tx
NEXT snacks Soon when got containers again thinking of a 25cal can sugarfree Apple pie filling in it with some yummies that goes with it.
Next meals considering rice 🍚,potatoe bakes seasoned pieces, a 20cal teriyaki sauce on rice ,plain chicken or garlic butter steak .3 -
Kitty - WELCOME! I used to loathe exercise too! Now I can't live without it. I have a secret weapon in my DH who is a fitness addict. I married him at 54 and it took him a while to get me at it. It wasn't until I'd recovered from breast cancer that the motivation really stuck. I had put on soooooo much weight with the chemo. I started slowly, very slowly, and gradually built up. We bought some exercise machines and used those every morning first thing. I burnt more calories by degrees. Then two years ago, at age 68, I started jogging with the C25k app. I thought I could never run because my left knee is deformed, but I was wrong.
You can do it. I also dance and there are lots of classes you can join that you would enjoy. Yoga is a good one if you can find a teacher you like. The thing to remember is, anything is better than nothing. Even marching on the spot while watching tv. Getting started is the difficult bit. Every morning I have to force myself to do push ups. I never like it, but I know the first one is the hardest. If money is a problem, you can do everything you need on a patch the size of a yoga mat.
Good luck! This is a great group for encouragement.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx on the sofa, recovering from the Ediebomb.7 -
PIP ~ I think Yogi likes his new ride!
SuziQ ~ The story of your husband's passing was so sad. And, it is so sad about his mom and her feelings about the house and death.
Rebecca ~ Your son looks like he adores Athena and I know he must be the best father around.

Carol, my son has to be very vigilant with her and their two dogs. The smaller dog plays with Athena, but play nips at her. The bigger dog just stays out of Athena's way. I hope as she gets older she will still be the Alpha dog in that situation.💖

Wondering why you loathe exercise? And is it all exercise or just certain types?
M in Oz

I loathe certain types myself, but others I love.I miss having a heated pool y hot tub at my disposal plus a nice nature walk. I loathe crossfit classes to any that say push beyond pain. I get injured 🤕 I’m the gotta listen to my body y stop 🛑 when signs say so kind.
If I could do It without competition or push through folks I would have back in the day. I hate yoga for the same reason...rather be on my own terms at home
Amber Tx3 -
SuziQ – I can understand your feelings about the house.
Kylia – I’ll let you know the next time I am heading over to Trader Joe’s. However, I just learned they have also opened a Cheryl’s cookie store-that could be hazardous!
Allie-enjoy the vacation. It sounds like you are as prepared as you can be.
Heather-your granddaughter sounds a lot like mine-she is always coming up with games to play, loves to use her imagination for pretend. They are precious but can be exhausting!
Took some time to do a couple of things I wanted to and gave myself primarily a rest day. Spent time researching to see if anything new on treatments for my thyroid cancer (not much). Checked out new wallets on Amazon (didn't buy one). Got boxes out of basement and broken down and took to recycle. Got a couple more boxes of stuff down there ready for Goodwill. Will drop them off there tomorrow when I go to gym (gotta love President's Day holiday!). Will see if handyman can stop by tomorrow to talk about doors.
Ears are a bit achy tonight-think it is probably sinus. Off to see if a good night's sleep helps.
Take care all,

Hi Gals,
Wine – I do like a glass of wine, or a cocktail, but when I started at MFP I found the calories I had to save for wine were a bummer, I wanted to spend them on other things, so I did as Katla and would “water” down my wine with a sparkling water or soda water, sometimes 50-50 some times just 25% water, now I just rarely drink it so I enjoy a glass even more.
Last night I hosted at my home a co-ed wedding shower, it was for a gal I work with at the children’s camp I am the gardener at. There were 12 of us, and the huge challenge for me was that 2 are vegans – I chose to make the whole meal vegan it was easier than making to many dishes. Some vegan things are easy, others a total pain in the bum. There are many vegan replacements, so I was able to find plant butter, and a plant based cream cheese. Which helps. But the groom requested cheese cake, and that was at best a nightmare, everyone liked what I came up with, but I was not pleased with it – I tossed what was left. I did 3 starters – homemade Kale chips, tortilla chips and salsa, and vegies with a apricot chipotle dip, then 2 soups – a creamy curry chickpea, and a ravioli soup, homemade bread, then dessert.
The team I work with is all young people – mostly in their 20’s one is 31 and thinks he’s old (LOL); so I am “Aunt Kim” which is a role I am comfortable in.
My dining room area only seats 3 so I have figured out how to do a pop up dining room in my garage, it works very well and I can make it as formal or informal as I choose. This was pretty low key and yet they all commented on this being one of the first non-family “Adult” parties they had ever been too. Cracked me up – I have been throwing dinner parties since I was 12.
I’ll attach a picture of us all at the table the bride is in the front and I am at the far end of the table.

Well, I have to say that the “race” was interesting. We left to go to the stands at 12, didn’t get to our seats until 2. Vince said when Bush was there it wasn’t this time consuming. I must say, the secret service is FAST going thru your bag. It’s interesting, yesterday I didn’t even have to open my bag (of food), today I had to take the scanner off my body, show them the headphones, a lot tighter. When Trump was giving his talk, there were guys in the field with machine guns (understandable). Vince thought we’d be in our seats to see Air Force One land, we wound up being in line. But we did see it take off. And the motorcade make a lap on the track.
It started to rain, we came home and they called the race. So we’ll go back tomorrow. Only now they’re starting the race at 4. It seems there is only a 10% chance of rain in the evening. So I might get to see the launch.
Kylia – I have two housekeepers. Their names are “left” and “right”….lol
Do a fair amount of walking at the track.
Lisa – I was thinking about JanetR the other day, too
Luci – I get sad, too, when people prefer store-bought things to something homemade. Oh well,
SuziQ – one of the reasons we love the area we live in is because of the 4 seasons but mild winters. The last time we had a real hurricane was Hurricane Hugo (like 25 years ago). We don’t have earthquakes, tornadoes very seldom. On the whole, good weather. When I got a new car, one of the things I absolutely wanted was Bluetooth. If the car didn’t have it, that car was off the table. I didn’t want it. I’d like XM, I felt a backup camera would be nice, I couldn’t have cared less about a moon roof, but I absolutely wanted Bluetooth. More and more states are going to hands-free talking on the phone.
Pip – I tend to have a lead foot, too. I don’t know what I’d do without cruise control when on the highway.
Welcome everyone new!
Kitty – for a while I didn’t want to exercise, now I think I’m addicted to it. You’ll get there, too. Some people can do the same exercise day in and day out. Me? I get bored easily so I do a variety of DVD’s. That’s just me.
Got a new IP cookbook. It looks fairly basic to me, which is what I need. Now I can’t wait to make the chocolate pudding and a few other things. It gives the calorie count, but most recipes call for heavy cream. Wonder why they don’t just use milk and have lower calories?

Wow, you get things done during your time off. Do you ever take a me day?
I know you addressed this to Kylia, but I thought it was an interesting question.
My answer is "No" ... at least, not for a long, long time, years. And I doubt I will take a "me" day until late October at the earliest.
But one of my hopes is that when I'm finished this degree, I might be able to do that!! At this point, I'm not even sure what it would include.
What would you do with a day in which you could do anything you wanted?
Let's say a full 24-hours, from the time you went to bed (i.e. midnight) until the time you went to bed the next night.

Machka - I struggle with those days that I can do anything I want. I truly never know what I want. I struggle with doing things just for me. That is a very good question, I’ll need to give it some thought.3

In 2004 my husband was diagnosed with a long list of heart ailments that sounded really scary. For months, I'd check on him every morning when I woke up or after walking dogs if he was still asleep. I stood over him to be sure he was still alive. Finally I realized that I was powerless and that I needed to just let life happen. Now I just stay in the moment and enjoy everything that happens every day. Every day on the top side of the grass is a good one. I've learned from some of you and from some of my line dance friends, that it is possible to keep on going after the death of one's husband. It's important to realize that none of us gets out of this alive.
I write in a gratitude journal every day. Sometimes I write things that are inspired by what is going on in the lives of others. I don't want to take all my good fortune for granted (indoor plumbing, electricity, a working garage door, the internet, clear skies, health, mobility, etc.)
Dogs are staring at me reminding me that I have all the necessary ingredients to take them for another walk.

Michele- Soundes like a blast anyways. I’d love to meet Another President. Saw Clinton back in the day he held up our plane for hours so Secret Service could run get him a special drink . Think it was Apple juice but they had to run to a store the airport didn’t have it. / Later met the younger Bush he sat during a sun set drinking a juice box with my Daughter as they ate a FEMA meal box talking away. He was nice got on the phone fixed my problems with FEMA on the line that you call. They wrote my name wrong wouldn’t let me change it so I was being turned down for assistance for days. Meantime did what we had to survive since home y car was flooded. Lol 😂 they were rude to him too! Trying to convince them he was the president wasn’t easy. In the end it got fixed he checked all the water trucks to get numbers y figure out what was still needed. I’m still his fan because he was down to earth jumped in babysat Daughter then jumped in to help some more. He cares which was nice./ Obama called Daughter at school when she won the Presidential Award wanted her to come to the White House but she turned him down my Mothers Insurance was cancelled when the AffordableCare Act took place my Mom died quickly from it. Daughter wanted to be by her side which she glad she was in the very end.
Who knows how many more we can meet by the time we’re old y grey.
Made some more snack trays yougurt 90cal Dannon fat free with honey 🍯 on top. No sugar added Apple pie filling 2 servings on the side yummy Cant wait.

I've been thinking ...
Midnight - crawl into bed with book and read for 30-60 minutes or whenever I started dozing off.
12:30 to 1 am - fall asleep
Noon - wake up.
That's as far as I've gotten ... I'll ponder on my bus ride home.

Well I fell asleep at 6 pm and woke up at midnight.. so here I am watching tv . And having tea....3
