In a few minutes I am meeting a friend for a walk. I haven't seen her in awhile and it will be good to spend some time with her. She started to suggest lunch and then remembered that I like to walk and suggested the walk instead. Walking instead of lunch saves $$$ and burns calories instead of packing them on.
Debra, welcome. I hope you'll enjoy this friendly group of women as much as I do. Sometimes I post a lot and sometimes I just read and reflect. It is all helpful.

She chose a bedroom, DH chose a living room and I chose a room I called a playroom with a huge swimming pool, a massage table, a nail bar with foot bath, and an angel to do all the jobs, including sexual pleasure, though I didn't tell her that bit!
My perfect day includes a bit of writing as well as I then feel all is right with the world. In the evening I would have a private view of some wonderful, famous works of art and crafts, followed by a gorgeous dinner party for which I had prepared the food well in advance so I could just soak up the praise. Only my very favourite people would be there, including the Dalai Lama. Always good for a giggle.
If I won the lottery a private pool would be high on my list.

I am seriously impressed with her talent. I would frame this puppy!2 -
Barbara I looked up beit alpha cucumbers and received an education. Rather excited, as I love this type of cucumber but didn't know what it was called. I'm interested in one of the varieties, Katrina, which is more heat tolerant & likely to do well in Virginia. Where do you order seeds?
SuziQ Thanks for expounding on your mother-in-law's-house-tale. Truth is stranger than fiction. I would want to be rid of that "Albatross house". Such heartache. (((hugs)))
NYKAREN Is this your week off or was that last week? Either way, hope it is/was rejuvenating!
Lanette My mother's family was punny but polite. Lots of laughter but no bowel movement discussions. My father's family was serious and reserved except for one uncle who was a teaser. We didn't know how to take it as we had never been teased. That was a disservice to us kids, I later realized, as the world is full of teasers & you need to learn how to handle it. Anyway, the only bowel movement discussion held in my presence was one grandparent on his death bed who was so relieved because he'd been able to go. He didn't go into detail. My beloved Gramps, who died the next day of congestive heart failure. He was my mom's dad and the finest man on the face of the earth. I told my partner if I ever start talking about my bowel movements to shoot me.
Luci I think your sarcastic card ideas are great. Oh my. Lisa, stay tuned. Don't rule it out. This could be your get rich gig.
Heather I know your husband is a wizard with your grandchildren, but you are, too. Just sayin'… Edie is a pistol, so cute & so much energy! What a girl!
Kim Oh MyGosh I definitely want to be invited to a dinner party at your house. I love love love your hostessy talents & the outcome.
Katla So glad you had a good ride. I know how much you love it.
Debra Welcome!
Machka My ideal day:
Today will be close - Learning Coach for my grandson this morning, lunch & a birthday shopping trip with my almost 11-year-old granddaughter this afternoon. Then home for a nice dinner with my partner and a quiet evening at home with the dogs & partner.
If I could, I would replace that last sentence with: go for a brisk swim in a sunny locale late this afternoon, take a long hot shower, dress in soft clean cotton clothes & then watch a Nebraska sunset in silence with my partner; that would complete the ideal day.

I finally went back to sleep for a few hrs...
right now I don't have another job to fall on , but will email my boss and see again if he would let me collect and leave my job.. if not I will do what I need to do for my sanity.
I am watching local news and having my tea..
Do you have such a thing as stress leave available to you. When a job is affecting your health it’s time to leave.

Okie Tx hill country - In Kerrville Texas it’s the same with full time they split your work between different parts of their company at different addresses or job titles you clock in y out of each to keep from going over. This keeps them from giving health care but at least unlike everyone else in the town you can get 20-28 hours at each position to survive. Their doing what they have to to keep the doors open y if lucky to find one like this you get enough hours but the hours don’t conflict each other so no dueling company giving ultimatum like both scheduling a mandatory meeting same time but different companies different locations.Your early to one late to the other y one writes you up for not being in their dress code as you dont get to eat or pee drive like a maniac to get across town. Ultimatums of work Friday or your fired but the other place is saying the same. Job companies now of days are not on the same page as their workers at all! They want 100% availability, commitment,y company loyalty.Yet they do not give the security, hours,or understanding needed to receive such things. Or they don’t want to pay for hours you’ve worked issues ran into that yet they expected a 2 week notice. Well if I worked for FREE your refusing to pay those weeks why would I give you 2 more weeks? Next job uses not giving 2 weeks as a reason not to hire you issues. I had 1 hold my paycheck hostage until I signed a fake reason they chose for me quitting. I signed but you bet I kept the extortion letter from the *kitten* ! I’ll copy those off paste them to a resume if I have to.

Karen- Indeed she is. I adore her almost with a pain in my heart I love her so much. As you may remember I lost my second child at full term, a placental abruption that I only just survived. Baby Kate. She would be 42 this year in May. When I was told that my second grandchild was going to be a girl the tears came to my eyes. She is very socially acute and will likely end up in a people job. We are concerned about what kind of teenager she is going to become! Not an easy ride for the parents we think.
My favourite bit was when she said, "You have got first prize for your dragon because you were very worried about drawing it and didn't have any confidence and said you couldn't, but you kept going and tried your best so you did very well. You took a lot of trouble over the details."
The second favourite bit was the burping competition.

Went to lunch with gals from my painting class I go to on Mondays.
Working on finding grace within me so that rather coming at a problem from a place of frustration I can find my breath. Now reading a book titled Activate Your Vagus Nerve as a response to this work. This nerve is the guide post that helps to keep you calm in times of trouble.
I did try the suggestion of using tape to keep myself from mouth breathing during the night last night. It was a bit strange at first. It appeared to work. I know this has been a problem for me for years. I would not suggest trying this if you have a cold. Your nose is the first line of defense in keeping the wrong things (germs pollution) out of your lungs.

Pip ... you know they make weather tech pieces that fit over the folded down third seat too? I don't use the third seat in my Explorer and have the mat go over the seats to protect and provide a "lip" so stuff doesn't run off of them.
Barbara ... thank you for always recognizing when others have been missing.
Janetr ... I am thinking about you and some others. Vicki?
SuzieQ ... that house situation sounds terrifying and you have certainly had a time of it since your husband's passing. I am impressed with your ability to move forward.
I am a part-time employee and receive some benefits like paid vacation, sick days and holidays (no health care). Today was one of our paid holidays and it was a sunny day so I sat where I could absorb some of the sunshine. Also had an appointment with my audiologist to adjust my hearing aides. I've had the aides for about 8 months now and it's not going well. We discussed again today whether to abandon them and move on to cochlear implants. I'm stubborn, if nothing else, and suggested we try adjusting them with a different end in mind. I think she's been trying to resurrect the dead and it's only resulted in distortion and harsh noise. The audiologist was agreeable. Starting at square one, but feeling that at least, as we document, we'll know that we've tried everything before moving on.
I agree with Heather that most of us have the ability to make positive/life giving choices everyday regardless of our circumstances. Machka .... I also recognize that there are times when we absolutely are not at liberty to "do" specific things that we want, but also believe that we can always find things in every situation that can bring joy even if just fleetingly so. It is a matter of attitude or as Kelly says ... flipping the script. Having said that, I have recently had a couple weeks of discouragement that I have had to deal with. There have been positive moments...even some humor. There have also been large quantities of peanut butter cookies consumed. Sigh.
I have a another wedding to attend and you might recall from the past that I agonize over what to wear to events like this. I'm not fashion stupid --just not happy with how I look in today's fashions. This is a formal wedding and I don't believe I can get away with dressy pants so I have been dress shopping. I need to stop with the peanut butter cookies....
Have a good evening, ladies.

I have been bad about cookies too. It's back to the broccoli and chicken diet for me! I have eggs for breakfast, oatmeal with blueberries and protein powder for lunch, and chicken with broccoli for dinner. If I keep to that the weight will come off. Maybe some fruit too.

Or a deviated septum.
People have been telling me to breathe through my nose most of my life and I've always thought "How??" How does anyone get enough air in through the nose? Now I know ... other people don't have one side that's always blocked. I am curious to know what it might feel like to breathe through both nostrils.

Wow, you get things done during your time off. Do you ever take a me day?
I know you addressed this to Kylia, but I thought it was an interesting question.
My answer is "No" ... at least, not for a long, long time, years. And I doubt I will take a "me" day until late October at the earliest.
But one of my hopes is that when I'm finished this degree, I might be able to do that!! At this point, I'm not even sure what it would include.
What would you do with a day in which you could do anything you wanted?
Let's say a full 24-hours, from the time you went to bed (i.e. midnight) until the time you went to bed the next night.
M in Oz
What would you do with a day in which you could do anything you wanted?
OK ...
Midnight - crawl into bed with book and read for 30-60 minutes or whenever I started dozing off.
12:30 to 1 am - fall asleep.
Noon - wake up.
Brunch and putter around for a bit.
1 pm or so - walk down to the beach to run, sit on the beach and read, splash in the water, etc.
3 pm or so - lunch then drive out to a nice spot in the country for a bicycle ride.
4 pm or so - cycle 50 km or so
7 pm or so - out for dinner
Later in the evening - watch a movie while working on my website or processing photos.
And end the day reading some more.
A variation on that would involve a much longer bicycle ride starting about 1 pm followed by a hot shower or bath then dinner etc.
Another variation on that would include a long hike out in the wilderness, up a mountain or wherever.
Three days, each including one of those variations, would be even better!!!

My perfect day would be to repeat a day from a past vacation at a beach resort. It was fabulous with a gorgeous private white sand beach, incredible food, yoga, kayaking, etc. They made single source chocolate from their own trees. But the best part was my boyfriend; we were falling in love, which made everything magical. I remember floating in the ocean holding hands. We lasted over two years and remain friends. I have plenty of time on my hands nowadays, but a perfect day would include a partner like him. Plus maybe a yarn project lol!

I like this ^^
The "ME" Day I described would be something I'd do from home ...
A really good "ME" Day would be a vacation day and thinking through past trips a couple places stand out ... cycling in the Canadian Rockies and being on the west coast of France. I could easily take my first variation and change the setting to the west coast of France.
BTW - Dreaming of a "ME" Day doesn't mean I'm not generally content or can't take "ME" Moments ... it's just a nice dream of what I'd do if I did actually have an entire day where I could do what I wanted. Just one day with no doctor's appointments, no long bus rides into work, no group work at the university, no emails asking me to do something, no running errands ...

Machka- My Mom was a mouth breather due to a car accident but she struggled before that too but only somewhat . I have drainage issues like my Dad. Be talking out of no where drains chokes you.Embarassingly coughing at a restaurant issues. He also gave me my GERDS. Dad y me have that stuffy seasonal noses 👃 so I breath through one nostril then mouth as needed with it. I cannot do the breath only through your nose without oxygen masks.

Noisy here today. The roofers are here working on the new roof Yay! Only problem is my dog is sure someone is trying to get in and barks adding to the noise. I think I have everything ready to go to the tax people including the death certificate for my DH. My understanding is they will file a joint tax return but note that he died. Hope this goes well. The electrician was here today too and has finished up the cabin. We just need to put up a few more things like smoke detector and fire extinguisher. DS will come and do those later this week. We have already listed it with Traveling Nurses Association for March 1. It will be really nice to have the extra income.
Katla - Glad you had a good lesson.
Welcome to those who are new.

Hubs was off today for President's Day so we took advantage of the long weekend and got a few things done around the house. I got our taxes finished, now I just have to wait to be sure there aren't any unexpected (or forgotten) documents that arrive from brokerage accounts since they don't have to be mailed until tomorrow (I downloaded them from the websites yesterday). I also have to wait for the last of the tax forms to be finalized so I can finalize the return. It was beautiful here the last two afternoons (reaching 80 both days) so we went for a drive both afternoons to take advantage of it before we get a cold front moving in tomorrow with highs around 50 and rainy.
My work is slowing down a lot. I am down to one day a week (starting this week) with job 1. Job 2 may go from a few hours a week to a day a week. We'll see. I'm OK either way. I like having something to keep my mind active and to provide me spending money for my frivolous purchases .
Have a great week ladies!

Pretty tired right now. Took a car load (well, a CRV load) of old stuff to goodwill. Had back filled, back seat, and a box on the passenger seat. Pantry is washed down and organized (with lots of open space). Was trying to decide if the boys' old baseball cards were worth sorting or should just pitch. My mom had given us a 1993 series of cards. Googled them, evidently the Derek Jeter rookie card is worth a bit. So--kept the cards and will work on the tedious process of sort and checking. There are also some basketball and football cards.
Got all the trash from the basement outside. I must have gone up and down the stairs 25 times today. Fit in a good workout at the gym with 30 minutes on treadmill. Came home, had dinner, cleaned fruit I bought over the weekend. Have had my tea-heading off to bed to watch some tv and get a good night's sleep (which should not be a problem!).
Take care all,

M and Amber that was just one of the suggestions for activating your Vagus Nerve. I am fortunate in that I am able to breathe freely through both nostrils. Breathing through my mouth at night is just a habit. If you have sleep apnea. I would be careful in trying this too.
This nerve effects almost every major parts of your body. Many of the healthy habits we have talked about in this forum activates this nerve. Bad habits like eating over processed foods, being inactive, isolating yourself, heavily drinking, smoking, not getting enough restful sleep weaken this nerve.
The author also talked about Mindfulness and meditation as ways to activate this nerve.
It is especially important to activate this the vagus nerve when going through stressful times because it mitigates the damage extreme stress can have on your body.
For me that it what I mean by finding grace. It is that calm in the middle of a storm. The storm still rages but staying calm in the middle makes it easier to navigate the storm.
It has been a stressful year for our family so finding this book that reinforces many of the healthy habits discussed here is timely for me.
The beginning of the book does get technical as it discusses all the systems effected by the vagus nerve. I do like that is explains the positives and negatives and does give concrete things you can do to get and to keep yourself healthy.5 -

Hi Gals,
Hugs to all that need them, courage to those facing changes and cheers to all!
I read an article over on Medium written by a member here, not sure what the exact rules are but her name starts with an L and she lives in Arkansas. She wrote about time and how we each have more time than we realize. All of the rest of this is my musing on the article not quotes or things she mentioned. Granted there are 24 hours in each of our days but many times we squander it. An internet rat hole, a pod cast that we just have to stop and listen to, the TV that captures our attention. None of these are bad unless they take away from our goals…. Budgeting of calories, money, time really not that different from one another. I know how and have had moment of success with calories and money; but had never looked at time in the same light. All three at any one moment there is a finite amount of depending on our goals.
For me there is a goal of losing weight, a finite amount of calories for success, maybe I can get a few more from exercise, but still a finite amount. A goal of paying off a bill, I can work more or cut expenses to free up money for that goal but still finite. A goal for time, is to have more time for me; to garden, to read, to self direct. This concept has been mulling around in my mind for a few days. One of the things that this held up in front of my face is that 4 days a week I spilt shift ½ the day gardening and ½ the day embroidering – that is not the most efficient use of my time, each of the 4 days there is a 1 hour round trip commute, and the change from one to another always takes longer than I think it will. At least for the next month or so, I am going to try to work two 5 hour shifts at the camp garden and then the one 3 hour shift at my private client, so I’ll only spilt shift on 3 days. I am also going to pick one of the home all day days as a no client appointment day. So it can be just work no interruptions. Today just happened to be one of those days and oh my did I get a lot done! Embroidery on 8 towels, one horse blanket, 2 polo shirts, 3 christmas stockings, and working on a jacket that is heavy embroidery – If I could produce at that level even one day a week, it would change my world. Freeing up time for marketing the business or gardening at my home, more Levi time what ever!
