    The organisers of my HM just issued a statement to say that they will issue a statement at some point tomorrow with a decision one way or the other. Welcome to Spain, why do it today if you can make people wait til mañana? *rolls eyes*

    That would be funny if not so frustrating. They're probably tired of people asking them what's going on.

    That would be funny if not so frustrating. They're probably tired of people asking them what's going on.

    We got updates that they were going to send something out in the coming days as well. Turns out they were trying to convince the county that people healthy enough to be running a half marathon are probably not fighting off a massive viral infection (vs a random gathering of whoever), and everything else was contained/banned/etc. Spectators aren’t physically possible on the course so it was literally just runners, deer, sheep and a handful of volunteers who could be avoided by using your own hydration options. So they were putting off the announcement hoping for a different outcome.

    So fingers crossed it’s just to give more time for them to convince people to let it happen (if it’s safe).

    @Avidkeo I agree 100% with everything @ContraryMaryMary said. You are missing SO MANY FACTORS! You really can't "guess" especially since this is your first. Goal should just be to finish and if you run that particular Marathon next year, you can aim to beat last year's PR. As a first time Marathoner, I can tell you the pride in just finishing under alotted time because 26.2 is alot of miles on your feet. ALSO, not all Marathons are equal. My brother-in-law ran 5 and could tell me level of difficulty, in his opinion, based on hills and elevation. My father-in-law has run hundred, all kinds and many vastly different. PLUS there are other factors to take into consideration. A Marathon is twice the miles of a Half, so the problems you may encounter during a HM, you may want to double. I saw alot more issues with people past the halfway point than I did before then. You have to prepare for anything as best as possible. I learnt more through experience than I ever could from hearing or reading about a Marathon 'what to expect'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Also, you will be training and it might be spot on or not. I don't think I properly carb loaded and fueled before my race. Lesson learnt and I will keep trying until I get it right. Hopefully you won't have anxiety the night before. I got 4 hours of sleep, which affects the run I'm sure.

    I'm running a trail Marathon in 12 1/2 weeks. I have NO IDEA what I'm doing, none!!! I may spend a considerable amount of time on my butt, I don't know...but...
    Goal, because this is a first of its' kind for me: Finish! And if I like it, do it again and BETTER next year!

    Best advice I can give you and I'm still pretty "fresh" in the sense that I'm just getting started and learning, myself.

    @brittanystebbins95 That's awful. I would have 12 hour shifts, night or otherwise. I hope you can find some way to get the sleep you need. I'm sending loads of positive vibes your way!

    @katarina005 Thank you! Yes, finally starting to feel back to normal.

    So just saw that DC pulled the permits for my half marathon, so no race for me. Not surprised in the least, I just really hope they plan for a new date instead of canceling straight out. Although I’m disappointed, I’m glad they are not having it this month, it’s just smart.

    I can’t do the quote thing for each answer here because I’m short on time BUT here is the schedule for the last seven (or is it six now?) long runs until marathon day (April 25!)

    This weekend: 12 miles
    Fifth weekend (also Portland): 20 miles
    Fourth weekend out: 12 miles
    Third weekend out: 22 miles
    Second weekend out: 12 miles
    Last weekend out: 8 miles

    I think yeah, only six long runs left!

    @enaliba yes! I have never been so my *hope* is to get up earlier than my twin brother and get a few miles in. He is not a runner .... he’s more of a beer, wine, and food guru and he loves his cigarettes (i understand - i used to smoke too). Also I am slow and a 20 mile run would take HOURS. This wouldn’t be a thing but I haven’t seen him in four years and I don’t want to take one second away from spending time with him. So ...

    Would it be just absolutely stupid of me to do the 20 mile run THIS weekend or the weekend I get home instead of Portland weekend? I also need a cutback weekend to coincide with the weekend that i have the kids for Spring break, which is actually the weekend i get back.

    So can i manipulate the schedule to 20 this weekend, however and as many as I can next weekend, then another cutback, then 22? What is the best way to maneuver this?

    Also - @LoveyChar remember everyone said that after they run a marathon they fall into a drifting state until the next thing. You’ll pull yourself back up! And. I want that cookie. I’m still trying the plant based diet to see if it really does help with inflammation etc ..... tomorrow is no-tuna, tuna salad. I’ll letcha know how it goes rotfl

    My son is still miserable and i am due back at work tomorrow.

    My sister is LOSING HER MIND over coronavirus. I’m not sure I buy into mass hysteria, but my concerns rest with the legitimacy of the issue. There’s a part where we need to do all that we can (wash. Your. Hands.) but also.... i really don’t want to be quarantined.... but also .... people that could die from the virus would be grateful if it were contained. It’s not just me I have to care about.

    But also.

    I don’t want them to cancel the marathon and I don’t want to have to miss out on Portland.

    We shall see.

    So are you asking about doing 20 this week, and 12 next? That is a possible option. You need to judge your own body and condition and work from there. It is certainly a reasonable option. As is just skipping the run if you must.

    @PastorVincent yes! Does it make sense to do that?

    I have to manage my IT Band - but i think if i keep being smart i will be able to manage it!

    If you can manage it, it is better to do that than miss the run.

    Honestly? 4 hours will put you near the middle of the pack, a bit on the faster side of middle really. So if you can do that you will be doing great.

    ETA: Ops, that is for MEN. For women, you will be even a bit ahead of that. :)

    My aim is to just to finish, don't actually care about the time. As you say, it's the first one so just getting out there is an achievement. Mentally I think im closer to the 4.5hrs...

    ETA @PastorVincent ahhh 9k ill mentally adjust that to just finish bahaha. And yeah that honestly is all I care about. If I do the half, THAT I'll want to do in around 2hrs, my Pb is 2:03

    @ContraryMaryMary I can't remember their wording, but the Marathon starts at 730,and at 1 most of the support is removed though the finish line stays open. It's mostly on footpaths.

    Ah, that’s 5.5 hours, which makes more sense - I reckon 80% of the runners will be done by then.
