Nope, cause when you WIN the race, you do not also place in your AG. Sorry, that is the breaks.

My son's Uni has a confirmed case and ceased all on-site teaching. He works at a cocktail bar and they are going with a slightly different approach - "Lockdown Party!" They are going to have a bash on Saturday, hundreds of people all in one space before the bar will close until further notice. So basically come and see if you can get Covid-19 and then all go home to your families - genuis 😕
My May event is already postponed. I definitely need a run tonight!!

I am TOTALLY going to win my AG in my virtual race tomorrow. @polskagirl01 How old were you again? No matter, we'll just make up our own age groups... I'm sure we weren't born on the same day even if we do happen to be the same age lolol.

[sarcasm font] Wow, that lockdown party sounds brilliant... I mean, how many people does someone have contact with over a 2-week period at a university before showing symptoms? [/sarcasm font]
May events here have also canceled. Perhaps because they'd have to start the planning soon, and don't want to start spending money on something only to have to cancel later.0 -
@Duck_Puddle - loved your 'non-traditional' race report and took a look at the Insta pictures. Absolutely beautiful and much as I remember from driving the 128 with my geologist dad explaining all the rock formations and layers to us. I do not remember the bike path, likely it is a newer addition.
@kgirlhart - before I actually purchased a thundershirt I made a makeshift one by wrapping an ace bandage around him from underneath his front legs to his belly like shown here https://www.k9ofmine.com/diy-thundershirt/ The shirt is easier and takes less time to put on so generally more convenient.
i tried a thundershirt and a diy...speed demon ate them in her anxiety. so didn't work so well for us
my april race is postponed.
my may half marathon race so far is still on but i feel like it will probably get cancelled.
i'm hoping my ultra at the end of may doesn't get cancelled but in reality it probably will be6 -

Lol yes... here in Spain, at the ripe old age of 42 I'm dubbed a 'Veteran B'!5 -
My April races said they were looking to reschedule in May. I don't see that happening. They always offer a virtual option so if all else fails we will do it that way.
The number of people, businesses and government not taking this seriously enough is astounding. The reports of cases here they aren't giving any information. It's basically age and maybe some info about where they have been. A spring training employee was diagnosed yesterday and all they did was warn people that were at the park. Um, they are a local employee at the park closest to me. Where else have they been? Do they shop at my grocery store? Did they go to a restaurant or gym? The public needs to know as much of their movements to determine if they had contact with this person, even in passing.4 -

Cloudy, foggy, and mid 40s F this morning. Chose lightweight running gear instead of heavyweight running gear.
Felt good physically, and toyed with the idea of a longer run until I remembered how bad I felt during yesterday's run. We had quite a bit of rain last night, and there were a lot of worms on the trail. So I invented a race: The Earthworm 7k. I beat them all!!! I think it was the new socks I picked up when I got my shoes last week.
Seriously, I ran well enough that I need to remember tomorrow is a rest day. Period.
Although there has been no official announcement yet, I'm pretty sure my April race will be cancelled, and probably my May race as well. Just have to be patient and see what the future brings.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2020 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?

My race in May (Pittsburgh Marathon) has already been canceled.
I think you can pretty much write off anything in May. I do not see us on the other side of this till July, at best, IF people take it seriously. The fewer people that do so the longer this will take. Sorry.
Actually, I'm pretty sure the fewer people take it seriously, the quicker the infections spread and the curve doesn't get as flat, and the QUICKER we get over it. But in a bad way, with extra deaths that could have been prevented if we only had some free hospital beds.
But I agree that May doesn't look like a good month to plan a race.

Ran in the rain today. I usually avoid that, but the fitness room in my building is closed and I didn't want to skip the run. It wasn't that bad, so the silver lining may be me pushing myself to run outside even when it's raining.

@shanaber I tried the ace bandage wrap last night and it really seemed to work. There was at least 1 tornado less than 30 miles away, and lots of thunderstorms overnight and Pup didn't cry and wake us up like she did the night before. The rain should be moving out of the area for a while, but I think I will look into finding an actual thundershirt for her.10

I got in my long run today since it is supposed to rain the rest of the week and into the weekend. I did a double lap from my house the park I usually use around the park and back. The streets were empty for the most part, maybe 10 total driving past me. The park was also empty for the first lap then it began to fill up on the second one. I was glad I was done and out of there by then. An ambulance passed me when I was about a mile away from home and the driver gave me the weirdest look LOL. I must have look really rough by that point.
Let's share some things we are thankful for in this insanity.
I am thankful that I work for a company that is sending everyone home to work as fast as they can. (I already work remotely at least 3 days a week so nothing new for me.)
I am thankful my family is still healthy and not stir crazy... yet.
I am thankful I can still go outside and run and stay away from people.
I am thankful I have enough food incase they close grocery stores to last for 2 or 3 weeks, even with a 16 yr old boy. Toilet paper may be an issue after week 2.
What are you thankful for?7 -

Truth be told, even though they were young, they weren't very fast.
But a win is a win, right?5 -

How do you know they were young? Did you ask for ideas? Maybe they were elderly.3 -

@kgirlhart - YAY! That is such great news! Also I am so glad that tornado didn't get any closer to you!1 -
and my annual Door County Half has been cancelled. trying to decide what to do with the motel reservations3
-
@Tramboman - love the Earthworm 7K! Right up there with the Turtle 3K (or 10K) 🐢 Congratulations on beating out all those worms to get 1st place!
@kimlight2 - honestly I am thankful for all of you and having a place to be lighthearted and commiserate at the same time!
I am thankful that our doggy daycare place, where Hobbes goes once a week just to get the crazies out, is still open. They implemented a drive through drop off so no one has to go into the office and you pay over the phone if you need to.
I am thankful for the friends I see online offering to help anyone who can't get out for groceries or errands or to foster pups if someone gets sick and can't take care of theirs.
Have you all heard of the trend, if you will, to get people to put their Christmas lights back up? It gives people who are staying home (most of us) something lovely to look at just by opening our doors at night or going for a neighborhood drive if allowed. I am going to see if I can find some lights online in spring/easter colors to put up. I think it would be fun and just brighten things up for everyone.
Also one more good news item that is sort of running related. About a month ago I submitted a complaint/request to my city about my neighborhood sidewalks. I don't typically walk or run on them if I can avoid it because they are so bad and I have tripped and fallen more than once (actually the reason I had to have hand surgery a couple of years ago). Well I noticed the other day there were little markings at many of the broken/uneven places and the last few days they have had crews here grinding them down and today they are taking out and re-laying new cement for the worst areas. It makes me so happy! We really can make a difference sometimes by just asking.12 -
@kimlight2 I'm grateful that my company is being very supportive while a lot of us are working from home.
I'm grateful for the jokes I'm sharing with my family over group chats and that nobody I love has yet been directly impacted by this illness.
I'm grateful for the ability to run outside.

I can barely keep up with this thread so I haven’t posted much this month. I’ve kept up with reading and gave lots of likes and hugs. Although my races for the next three weekends are cancelled I was able to participate in Peyton’s Wild and Wacky 50K this past weekend before things started tightening down. The lengthy race report is below if anyone is bored and wants to read about racing since we can’t really participate in any right now.
@Duck_Puddle – I loved your description of running in Moab and it’s now on my bucket list too!
@ContraryMaryMary – Congrats on your HM!On Saturday I participated as part of a 2-person relay team in Peyton’s Wild and Wacky 50K. The race is held in a park in Mt. Pleasant, SC. This year made the sixth annual running. The couple who organize the race put it on in honor of their 9-year old son (Peyton) who passed away unexpectedly in 2013. The boy ran with his mom and dad (his dad is a running coach), always encouraging to everyone and camped in this park as a Boy Scout. Even though Peyton was a speedy runner he would slow down and run with the slower runners. What makes the race wild and wacky is that it is composed of 10 x 5ks and you run a 5K every hour on the hour. Everyone started their first 5K at 8:00 am and no matter how speedy you complete that first 5K, you can’t start the next one until 9:00 am and so it goes until the last 5K is run at 5:00 pm. The race is a sell-out every year.
There were several of us traveling down from northeast Tennessee. A couple of guys were doing a 2-person relay and some other girls from my morning running group were doing a 5-person relay. Mid-day Friday, six of us loaded in a mini-van and headed out on the 5-hour drive. We rented a house in Wild Dunes for the weekend. A couple of friends were driving their truck and leaving early Friday morning so they graciously took our camp chairs, pop-up tent and changing tent and set it up for us Friday evening. The atmosphere at this race is very relaxed and fun. Everyone sets up tents in the park and hangs out in between the running their legs. And food! They fed us all day long. This year, for hygiene purposes all snacks were individually packaged. A food truck serving BBQ catered lunch and there was a coffee truck there with free coffee. You could also purchase the fru-fru coffee drinks so I had an iced mocha at one point. I couldn’t stomach the thoughts of eating BBQ and then going back out to run shortly thereafter but a lot of people handled it fine.
I ran the race in 2017 as a solo participant and this time I was a little worried about having more down time in between the 5ks. Although I would only be running 25K instead of the full 50K, I was afraid I would get stiff in between the legs. All went well. The temperature was between 65F – 70F all day and breezy. Being in SC though it was pretty humid. I sat down some when I was “off” but we also played frisbee, cheered on other runners, visited with friends and people-watched so the time passed quickly. A group set up next to us were from the Mission 22 organization which raises awareness of veterans suicide and at the end of each leg would do 22 push-ups. Another group of firefighters suited up and ran each leg with a tank on their back.
Having fun in between legs
I did Legs 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9. Due to some flooded trails, they changed the course this year. In the past it has been one 5K loop but this year there were several out and back sections. And dogs! A lot of people brought their dogs on leashes and all of them were well-behaved. The dogs weren’t allowed on the course so they just hung out at camp.
I’m grateful they didn’t cancel the race. Even though it was a decent sized crowd of runners everything was outside. There were hand-washing stations and hand sanitizer available. It was a beautiful day to be outside. I wasn’t too sore or tired the next day. I would definitely do this race again.
Ready to head out for lap 96 -
@kgirlhart Like @shanaber I wrapped my girl. I did have a Thundershirt when we moved at the time of my divorce (2015) and it worked wonders. I loaned it out and never got it back. Drats. When I was getting ready to move (2019), she started stressing again, so I used a scarf & wrapped her and it did work.3

March goal: run 2-3 days per week. Virtual 5K April 25th.

3/4 - Walk 3.3 miles (total walk: 3.3 miles)
3/5 - R 1.8 miles (total run: 3.56 miles)
3/7 - Stationary bike for 20 mins - - - Week 1: Goal accomplished
3/10 - R 2.01 miles
3/11 - W 4.01 miles (total walk: 7.31 miles)

3/17 - R 1.5 miles
3/19 - R 2.01 miles (total run - 10.84 miles)
Was exhausted when I woke up this morning. Got dressed for the run, still was in the "don't wanna!" mode, but went out anyway. Once I was out there, felt pretty good. Afterward, looked over the pace time & realized I actually ran faster than I have since Sept of last year!
Still planning on starting the HM training in May for the August HM. Hopefully by then things will be getting back to some kind of normality.7 -
@Duck_Puddle Great pictures. What a gorgeous place .....it's on my ever-growing bucket list!
@Avidkeo - Yikes! Stay safe! The CDC here just changed their guidelines regarding healthcare workers being able to continue working even after exposure. Desperate times, desperate measures.
@shanaber I love the idea of xmas lights....my husband will be less pleased as we have a really tall palm tree that I make him help me wrap the trunk like 8 feet up.
@kimlight2
I am thankful for having a healthy family so far
I am thankful for being able to hit the nursery and get some flowers to plant
I am thankful for all of the healthcare workers risking their health to save lives
I am thankful for social media, email, zoom and phones- this extrovert is in for a long haul.5 -
I'm thankful for the elderly man at the grocery store stocking shelves yesterday who smiled at me and reminded me so much of my dad. I just wanted to hug him.
I'm thankful that my daughter safely landed in Florida yesterday and is with my mom and happy and healthy.
I'm grateful that we have 5 playgrounds within walking distance from my house.
I'm thankful that despite not having bread or yeast that some super sweet people here gave me great no yeast baking suggestions so now I have bread. Trial and error first time, I cut my × too deep but the flavor is still delicious. I'm proud of it, first time I've ever baked bread from scratch.
I'm thankful for God's love and another day.
11 -
I'm thankful that I have a home to be confined to.
I'm thankful that (so far) my family remains healthy.
I'm thankful that I always work from home so can continue to do the little work I have.
I'm thankful I didn't sell my I'd-rather-be-deadmill.
I'm thankful I have so far resisted murdering my husband (though I don't know how long I can keep that up!)
