apparently, i needed one more day.
my friend was a runner so i thought a hill day would be appropriate for today-the day of his funeral. i don't care if i'm asleep on my feet. i will get those hills in.
i want running to be something like brushing my hair, or taking showers. just something that needs to get done. some days it feels better than others.17 -

When we went to Galicia (opposite end of the country, where the weather is a lot wetter) last Easter, my husband was amazed to see people working in the rain (you know, construction workers, road works, street cleaners... anyone working outdoors) and he asked the taxi driver how come they were working. Guy replied "well we'd never get anything done otherwise, would we!" His face was a picture.
That is pretty much how it is here in Pittsburgh, PA, USA too.
I am the weirdo in Phoenix that enjoys being out in the rain!

I am hoping to get there again. I used to be so good at that.

Kody wants me to thank you for all well wishes. He and I snuggled up on the floor watching TV last night. He seemed very satisfied to be curled up next to me sleeping.
@Camaramandy648 18 miles is awesome!! way to stick to it!
@Avidkeo I'm with you, I absolutely love rain runs, as long as it's not near freezing.
@quilteryoyo way to get that distance PR, that's huge!
@katharmonic I like your creative thinking at the airport.
@mbaker566 very sorry to hear about the tough time you've been having.
@PastorVincent no, I'm not skipping the race. It's at a beautiful park near my hometown, one I used to spend a lot of time at in my youth. Kody will know he's missing a run but obviously has no idea he's missing a race. There will be others.
@noblsheep it's good to hear about the progress made in China. Hopefully the rest of the world will follow suit. I just heard that in the Minneapolis area we now have drive-through COVID testing available at a few clinics.

Speaking of a possible Corona Virus lockdown, the parent company that owns the company I work for is holding a seminar to teach people how to work from home... of course, 100% of the staff in my city works from home that day as part of our regular schedule.6

That’s funny! Reminds me of The Good Place.
Don’t mind me, just testing this out: *kitten*, *kitten*, *kitten*, *kitten* hills...9 -
March goal: get back to running 2-3 days per week. 5K in April.
3/3 - Ran 1.76 miles (total run: 1.76 miles)
3/4 - Walk 3.3 miles (total walk: 3.3 miles)
3/5 - Ran 1.8 miles (total run: 3.56 miles)
3/7 - Rode stationary bike for 20 mins - - - Week 1: Goal accomplished
3/10 - Ran 2.01 miles (total run: 5.57 miles)
Over the weekend we drove over to Ohio. Ok, I did all the driving, but it was still a relaxed trip. Saw the Christmas Story House (drove by, didn't do the tour), ate at an actual Big Boy, had a local fundraiser pancake breakfast where they told us to "make sure we comeback next weekend!", and spent half the day wandering only 2 floors of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Need to go back to complete the other 4 floors! My plan on Sat morning was to run. However, the hotel was not in an area to make a "run around the block. Next choice, the hotel dreadmill. However, that was down, so the 3rd choice was the stationary bike. But I got a workout in!
My question to all the Ohioans: is it some kind of state law that Christmas decorations have to stay up through March? Everywhere we looked, rural to towns, still had them up, and lit at night!12 -
Morning all.
So day 2 of marathon training and I'm already off the plan haha. I'm currently a little ahead of where the plan is, and don't want to cut back to just build up, so until the plan catches up to me, I'm just going to do my own thing. That's only about 2 weeks really. Then it really ramps up!
I've applied for leave for race weekend so will see if that comes through. Either way, I'll be doing the HM the weekend following.
So today I went out for 8k. Slightly damp. It's got to the point its dark even when I get home now. The days are definitely getting shorter. Not complaining. I enjoy summer, but admit that spring/autumn are actually my favourite seasons. Warm but not stifling. A bit more variety of weather. Lovely.

As a native Pennsylvanian who has lived all over the world and currently lives in Ohio, this is a matter of efficiency. Putting them up once and leaving them up is far more efficient than putting them up and taking them down annually.
I'm surprised you didn't comment on our traffic control devices, which to Ohioans are merely suggestions.5 -
March Goal: 90 Miles
3/1: 7.62 miles
3/2: 5.05 miles
3/3: 5.02 miles
3/5: 5.05 miles
3/8: 7.60 miles
3/10: 5.32 miles
35.66/90 miles completed for March
234.74/1000 miles for Run the Year Team Pavement Pounders
I ran 5.3 miles today. It was a really good run. I tried to keep it easy and not pay attention to my pace and just go by feel. I ended up with an average 10:42 mi/min. I am hoping to run my HM in May at about a 10:00 mi/min pace. So I felt like that was pretty good for an "easy" run. Lately on my weekday runs it has been dark when I started, but light by the time I get home. I knew that after the time change it would be dark the whole run and I was kind of not really looking forward to that. But since there was a full moon last night it was nice and bright outside even though it was dark. And it wasn't cloudy so not only could I see the pretty full moon, there were lots of stars too so it was a lovely run. The weather was nice too at 50°F with just a very light breeze, not the 15-20 mph winds we have been having. Tomorrow and Thursday are supposed to be around 65°F. It may be a little warm, but it is the kind of warm that I really don't mind. I wore shorts and a t-shirt today and am planning on shorts and tank tops the next two days. I really love just being able to throw on a shirt and pair of shorts and not have to worry about what to wear.

Agreed. It's a selling feature if the house comes "pre-decorated" for the holidays here in Cleveland.1 -

Oh I can not eat them. I will be giving them away.0 -
People in my local runners' group are saying they just got the notification that the NYC Half Marathon this weekend has been canceled.
And we have not hit the spike of cases yet in the Corona Virus epidemic... should get a lot worse before it gets better based on China, SK, and Italy... so that is not looking good for Pittsburgh's Marathon. Hope I can get a refund at least if it gets killed.

Here, in Costa Rica, all events and meetings are cancelled. People are being told to work from home. Thus my planned 5K is cancelled...the course was mostly hills and looked tough...
And we’re nowhere near the numbers of cases I see elsewhere.9 -
Well, March is not going any better than Feb. 5k tonight, only 2nd in the month.
Distance....10k
Runs...........27 -

I'd run it anyway. If there's no one else there, there's no risk, right?6 -
Interesting... we have quite a few cases in CA and in the LA area but they went on with the LA Marathon this last Sunday. There were ~23,000 runners but I have no idea if they had many spectators along the route or at the finish but it looked pretty empty on the news coverage. I think the biggest worry though was at the expo but they did make sure all the exhibitors had hand sanitizer and it was generally located all around the general expo area.
The winning male (Bayelign Teshager, 20 from Ethiopia) ran a consistent 4:54 mile pace and finished in 2:08:26!
The winning female (Margaret Muriuki, 33 from Kenya) ran a consistent 5:42 mile pace and finished in 2:29:27!
Wow!!! So incredibly fast!!9
