5 miles running and 3 walking. Hardly anybody on the roads when we first got out, so we were enjoying running in the road instead of the sidewalk. We even made the usually too-dangerous dash over to a nicer neighborhood that doesn’t have sidewalks at all.
Then just when we were relaxing, things got crazy! My husband unbeknownst to me was counting the number of times we nearly got hit by a car - 211. And it seemed like the cars were there for no other reason than to try to kill us! The same car would come shooting down the street, do a u turn, and shoot past us again. Then we would see what you could swear was the exact same car on the next street over! Finally I saw one of them make a stop and realized, it was dinnertime. A horde of door dash and Uber eats drivers were delivering dinner for everybody stuck at home. Driving like maniacs trying to get there on time for a good tip and unfamiliar with where they were going.
We passed several other people running, including some people wearing masks. I had never previously seen anyone but us and one military guy run here.
Despite the tail end of it being a little like a game of frogger it was a nice run. Weather perfect. Cherry trees in bloom. I have given up trying to keep any particular pace right now. The sidewalks here are just too bad. We were running like eleven and a half minute miles, which is the pace we usually run on a moderately difficult trail. We did throw in a couple of strides when we got a nice open stretch of road.10 -

Ah man, that doesn't sound much better. Maybe go back to the park, but cough a lot? Just kidding, but really, I don't know... I hope you can find a good solution so that running can really be relaxing!4 -
I ran 2.2 miles yesterday on the treadmill, after a full week off, moping. I'm not likely to catch up all the miles I was supposed to run for marathon training, so I guess I'm done with the ticker.
I also sewed surgical masks for 5 hours, producing a paltry 7 masks. That brings me to 9, of which 4 are for personal use, and 5 are going with me to work in case anyone else asks for one. If I have no takers, all 5 can go to the girl who got way too close and actually touched me (!) to compliment the one on my face. She asked if I would make them to sell. That sounds like profiteering to me. OTOH, this is nothing more sophisticated than wrapping a bandana around your nose and mouth - very small protection. Not a necessary supply, regardless of public opinion, and the supply doesn't exist until I create it. So, isn't that capitalism? Producing goods for which there is a demand, in exchange for money? Regardless, I'm uncomfortable asking for enough money to compensate my time sewing them, and the raw materials have accumulated in the sewing room to the point that I can't recall what I ever even bought a particular fabric for... It's nice to have a use for it. And it's in my best interest to keep my co-workers healthy. Especially the one who doesn't respect social distancing.10 -

Got the run done early today. Tough slog on the trails again. I'm counting it as speedwork, maybe hills - it certainly wasn't fast but it was hard!4 -
A bit of quarantine humor...

So I was like "Coach, my marathon this year is canceled, so what's the new plan" and she is like "Dude, you still have that 50k planned, we will continue to build..."
Ah well so much for that relief LOL11 -
For those who are not fortunate enough to own gym equipment and are living in regions where gyms are closed, here are some options for weights:

The weekly foray for groceries was interesting. Many things to be had in abundance last week were scarce, and many things scarce last week were available. There were about 5 other shoppers in the grocery store.
Back is better; should not affect running.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2020 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?

Well, my mood *significantly* improved after my run. It's a nice, chilly but sunny day and I did some road and some trail, taking the long way through the woods. Saw a few people walking or running, mostly in the woods. Otherwise it's pretty quiet. I wasn't in a hurry but my watch must've had that cadence lock glitch or something because it says my max HR was 220 (and stayed around 218 for a good while). I felt totally fine. I've never noticed this before, so I'll just keep an eye on it.
I might need to try to get up and run before trying to manage schoolwork. My kids would probably appreciate that, tooMarch goal 100 miles DONE! (stretch goal 200 km)

@rheddmobile Glad you got out for a run. Sorry you almost got run over 211 times!!! Now that you know it was delivery people, maybe you can schedule your next run earlier, or later, so you aren't at peak dinner time.
@autumnblade75 Hang in there. Don't give up. Doing something is better than doing nothing at all. Try to give up the concept that you have to do things perfectly or not at all, if that is what you are doing. "Don't let perfection get in the way of progress" is a quote I heard somewhere and try to live by.
@PastorVincent Love the cartoon. That's why I have a dog and not a cat. Sounds like your coach is NOT going to give you a break. Another thing you can use as weights, if you are just trying to tone and not bulk up is cans of soup and doing lots of repetitions. I used to do that. I think I need to start adding that to my week at some point.4 -
125 new posts! You are all so active!!!!!!
I ran two runs on Saturday because 1. it was fun and 2. I kept thinking about how they may do a lock down here soon and I won't be able to enjoy the trails or roads as much.
I am still working.
Last week I was afraid of my hours being cut and this week I am the last man standing. Only one left in the office. All the hours are great and I am grateful.
I am proud of all of you for working so hard and maintaining and pulling yourselves back up. You are all amazing heroes.
I hope to run this evening - I took the dog to the trail after work yesterday too and it was absolutely lovely.
Just hoping we can keep going.
We're all in this together!4 -
I hit my 100 mile goal for the month.
Chatted with my mom yesterday. She's a NP in Memphis and I'm really worried about her. She isn't working directly in caring for patients with the virus, but she cares for people in the vulnerable population and she's working really long days right now. She doesn't think the Memphis "shelter in place" is going to impact her too much because she was already limiting herself to work and essential shopping.
My husband is getting really stir-crazy. This is an area where I think running is really helping me. Even though I feel the building walls closing in on me the rest of the day, I'm getting my time outside each day. It's a lifeline for my peace of mind.

I'm not sure if you're commenting on my running or the masks project. "Perfect is the enemy of good" also comes to mind, but I'd associate that more with the quilting. 3 co-workers asked for masks today, so instead of procrastinating about a run that "doesn't count for anything" or moping or stress-eating, I have a productive goal to sew some more masks.
This might be lifting my spirits better than running would, anyway. I intend to watch my process to see if there's something I could do differently to sew these things more efficiently. I have a lot of co-workers, and 1 mask each doesn't seem like enough.

I think I may actually hit my running goal! In fact, I think I have a good chance of surpassing it
I am sooo excited! This is my third time joining these and will be my first time actually hitting it. AND I did it four months pregnant.
I don't know if I'm just feeling really good about myself and ambitious, but I think I will set the bar even higher next month
13 -
Not joking nor being sarcastic. This is not an "introverts rule during quarantine" post, just a very real observation.
The longer we live under this "lockdown" the more I realize that my regular lifestyle is considered "hard" and "oppressive" and "unrealistic" to most. In fact thanks to required "zoom video meetings" - I am being forced to GREATER levels of interactivity with others than before this lockdown.
Seriously, y'all are strange.15 -

@brittanystebbins95 I didn't know you were expecting -- congratulations!
(And way to go on the goal too!)1 -

THIS!!!!! For me, the only big difference is my husband is here. ALL the time. And I wanna kill him. Other than that, not much changed.

This made me laugh because my husband typically works from home and he's having to adjust to me being around.6 -
@autumnblade75 I was actually talking about your running, but it applies to all aspects of life as well. Doing something for others has great benefits for ourselves and lifts our spirits. Glad you can sew the masks and hope you find a way to do it more efficiently. Have you googled it?1

We should have quarantined all the husband's together... Mines driving me mad too.6 -
I'm seriously glad I run at this time...yesterday was rainy and a rest day, so didn't even leave the house and felt depressed all day. Got out today for 5 miles and feel so much better. Not many people out, just a handful but everyone did smile and wave at each other. We are in the same place. I too didn't really care about pace, slow some, faster some, just going by feel.
Not the greatest weather (not helping that it's been cloudy for what seems like forever), and working from home for me is hard as I need so much from the office..I'll have to go in tomorrow for a bit tor replace files and pick up more and print a bunch of things...(its too much to use my home printer).
At any rate, I'm glad to have all of you and to read all your updates, keeping me sane.8 -
I feel for you guys whose lifestyle has significantly changed. We are in the odd position of having virtually nothing change at all! Hubby has been a SAHD for the last 6 years, while I work. Because I work in healthcare I am still going to work like usual, and hubby is home with the kids. Except they are used to going out places and they can't do that! Well they can go for walks, and a bike ride around the block but that's it. And we are heading into winter, so it's getting cooler and wetter.
I am stressed though. We've had our first covid patients come through the hospital, so far we haven't seen any. So that's been added stress. I haven't had to xray them yet but colleagues have. It's only a matter of time. And at the beginning of the week, I was eating my stress. Now I realise that's what I was doing, I'm taking control and I'm managing my stress by controlling the one thing I can, my diet and exercise. I am going to lose the final weight this year, no virus will stop me! Especially when I'm. So close! Only around 8lb!8 -
I want to run but waiting until hubby gets home to do so because I'd like to be by myself. I don't know why he works from home some days and others in the office but I'm not complaining because breaks are good. Anyway, I've been having fun with this... surprisingly easy, and I'm learning how to cook and bake other things from scratch as well.

I have. There are a number of different approaches. I've been mix n' matching. Today I spent 4 hours in the sewing room and have 12 masks to show for it. AND I think I spent a full hour on fabric selection. That would mean I've got it down to between 15 and 20 minutes per mask. Much better than 45.
I only stopped because I'm out of elastic.11 -

They put our county on "shelter in place" starting today. But luckily we are still able to go outside to run and walk. They did close the park, but usually I just run through there and don't spend much time there anymore. I do like to take the dogs there though so that will kind of suck. But too many people were hanging out there and not practicing social distancing or having groups of less than 10 people. So now the whole town is grounded. Today when I ran past the I just stayed on the road instead of going on the path. Since I didn't have to work today I ran a little later after the sun was up. It was a really pretty day. Almost a little hot, but not too bad. I ran 6 miles. I am still planning to drive to pick my son up from the airport. It is essential that someone go and get him. I can't wait to see him.

Also my half is coming up in May but it still hasn't been cancelled. Dare I hope?

I went for a walk. It was glorious. My 2nd toe curls, er, won't uncurl on its own. The great toe is flex also when relaxed. It's odd. I can straighten it and it won't curl. But curl and it stays curled. It is my rodded leg. Anyone know what this is? Tight tendon or ligament? Yours do it?5
