@SuziQ113 your omelet looks and sounds delicious.
@SuziQ113 i'm sorry about the 2nd degree. that is scary.
- here, three students at my school are confirmed cases. not my students, but students in classe with my students.
- i was in many large meetings and protests the weeks before the the closure. I went to the protest and it was important that i go relative to my role but there were many thousands of us (higher ed teachers and researchers and students). we went for a coffee afterwards in a packed café and i was feeling anxious but my 3 colleagues felt i was overworried, and that is was a "strong flu". we even gave classes on the day of the announcement (in the evening) and people still went to school the next day for very big meetings and so on (not me). i told my students i didn't think we'd have class the next week (i'd been tipped off very certainly about closure) and almost noone expected it. high school personnel had been informed a good week before and had prepared software, but all higher ed people (directors and employees) seemed to have been completely left in the dark about decisions, wierd as that may seem.
- also a colleague that i work with's wife's colleagues in a high school.
in france there is almost no testing. you basically only get tested if you need to be hospitalized or if you are very wealthy and/or prominent. it's a major problem; we are so unprepared, no masks, no tests, not enough hospital beds- a movement to right politically has been cause for many hospital beds disappearing.
i still have the right in theory to return to the usa but it would seem highly irresponsable.
@Amber, I'm so sorry for your aunt5 -

Will folks change? Won’t matter their ages.Like any disaster some go back to their ignorant existence like it never happened the me me me attitudes are hard to shake for them.
Some will change be kinder, be grateful, learn that living with less isn’t a bad thing how to survive on less ,keep stuff stocked up more, y have knowledge for the next generations someday. Stock up on rainy day money if possible. Live with less need to go out for a good time for some.
Will the governments still be greedy? Of course.
Stores may choose to change how their buisness practices work to have a disaster time plan saved up.
Schools will still be money driven jerks who forget their caring teachers y students needs.
Medical facilities will change their ordering procedures to stock on hand.
Worlds finances will be hit hard more in some areas than others.
Husbands will complain less as we hoard lol 😂
Places may start adding more no touch sliding doors to no magazine in waiting areas bring your own books. The types of masks they use may change.

In one year? In 5 years? What do you think will have likely changed definitively or semi-definitively?
I have pondered this, as well.
In our country, shaking hands, when you first meet someone, or giving someone a high-five when they've done something great, is quite common. I am not sure I will ever shake anyone's hand again. I have already started a namaste greeting, and I think I will stick with it. My husband and I were watching the last James Corden with a live audience the other night, and John Cena was a guest. He literally high-fived every single person on the aisle he ran down to get to the stage. My husband and I both literally groaned. I said "Gross." I will never see contact like that as acceptable again.
Brick and mortar retail stores were already struggling, and I think this may have been the death stroke for many of them. I am not particularly happy about that because I have no great affection for Jeff Bezos or Amazon (despite their current ad campaign of -- "hey we're just bringing together a group of cottage industries, aren't we great?") But I think it will be a fact of life.
Food/grocery delivery is here to stay, if there was any doubt. Even my 80 year old mother is now ordering her groceries online and having them delivered. (She's been self-isolating for nearly four weeks now. She is an example to us all!)
What we accept as "community" and "social interaction" has changed. We had multiple zoom meetings this week at work, and I feel even closer to my colleagues now. I have seen inside their homes, their pets, heard their kids running around. We banter and joke much more, because we are more relaxed in our home situations than we are when we are wandering around our offices. I even feel some of that with the news reporters that I've grown used to watching. Or Colbert, who did three "shows" from his home this past week. It has made even distant people seem more like people and not just talking heads, if that makes sense, and I feel closer to them.
My family is closer. I have been talking to my mother every morning for about six weeks now. Usually I do it from work at about 10:00 a.m., but since I've been home, others in the family have been joining me for the call. Yesterday, for example, all three boys were listening in and sharing their greetings. In the past, they would have just relied on me to convey any news between them.
What things am I missing?? What else have you all noticed?
Much love.
Flea

i miss physical greetings and look forward to their return, but i think the beginning of the end of the virus we will not be sure and some people will be wary. others will not.
i agree about brick and mortar and i think it's a real shame. i don't buy much online. only when it's really hard to be live for some or another reason;
i still buy live but i guess i will order more if the delivery staff is still numerous enough. i think for fruit and veggies i prefer to choose still. good for your mom!
interesting about the zoom meetings. my schools are the pits in terms of information-sharing, BUT i had phone meetings with each of my students and there was a different sort of follow-up that i think can be seen as positive.
i didn't see colbert, but i saw jimmy kimmel (very funny- he looks zoned out with his 2 young kids) and trevor noah - looks like he has serious cabin fever and may be 100% alone. nice.
i don't know yet. i feel like i've been a bit struck and in semi-emergency mode, trying to make do.
i think consumerism will be in big decline. and many people may lose jobs as companies discover much can be done online (and thus outsourced to countries with cheaper labor), even some of teaching.
Well over 10 years ago i saw an ad in france for English teachers to teach French employees in France, on the phone, but to do it living in Marocco, so as to receive a much lower pay- not even a high pay for marocco, but a living pay (just enough to pay for studio apartment rent and buy food, and get by probably normally). i think that will very much be on the uprise. many companies have reduced costs these next months- some may benefit from this financially.
here people clap every evening at 8pm: the idea is to applaud the medical community. but it's clearly- i'm sure- also just for us to feel alive, to connect, to relate...
presumably just after getting out, gathering will be seen as much more precious.

Sharon!! What a horrible ordeal! So glad you are doing better! Prayers for fast healing and that your test is negative! Hope you have received help with food and necessities. I was also going to post about 211, but I see Ginny beat me to it!
Beth Saying prayers for your parents. I hope they are both okay!
Karen I love the fish!
Tracey So sorry you can’t get out to walk! It’s so hard at this time of year to imagine people with a lot of snow! We were downright Springy yesterday!
Kate I love your son sending you a picture of your Mother’s Day card! So sweet!
Dr. Katie Sorry to hear your father fell! (especially while choking – how scary) It’s good to see you on here. Seems like it has been a while.
Ginny I don’t envy your job at all! So much pressure for you right now!
SuzyQ Adorable kitty!
Amber Please let Debra know I am praying for her and her family! So appreciating those who are working so hard to care for those who have C19! Glad your Dad has a way to provide church this morning. I think this is a very important time for everyone to be able to be close to their faith. My church is broadcasting on Facebook live and my Sister’s is on Zoom. Again, I am so grateful for technology! Thank you for sharing pics of your family!
Pip Yogi’s tie pick made me LOL! Thank you!
GROCERIES - Like so many of you, I wish I could buy groceries, share supplies, etc. to all of you who are in need. So far, we have all we need. I did go so far as to order washable TP…a silly way to spend money, I know, but due to IBS, I have a fear of running out even when we don’t have a crisis. We used cloth diapers and I don’t see the difference. I wish I had a bidet.
CHURCH – Grateful to have services online to watch. I miss seeing my church family, but I will not rush back. We always have online services so that shut-in members can watch. We are not members of our church, but we do attend on Sunday mornings.
Machka Thank you for the language link. I really want to learn Spanish. I used to speak some, I understand more, but I really want to find a way to be fluent. Biggest problem: very hard to learn new things since brain injury.
Barbara I feel the same way, but since he is already on coumadin, the next step is heparin which has to be a monitored IV ☹
Catching up…but still have a few pages to go. Time to care for DH. He is having a rough day…

Barbie - glad you like the Elly Griffiths books! I prefer to read them hardbound - I see the local library as a good stock but it closed for another couple weeks. In the meantime I have a stack of Harlan Coben books to reread.
Some hopefully good news....one of our Washington State Senators posted the link to a story about how our state is showing early signs of "flattening the curve". While we had the misfortune of being the first state to have a big outbreak and deaths in the care facility near Seattle, it also gave our state an opportunity to implement early social distancing, working from home, banning small groups, closing restaurants except for carry out orders. And people took it seriously since it was close to home.
Hoping that trend continues and non-essential businesses can continue to stay open if they are judicious about limiting the number of customers.
I am inspired by those of you finding ways to exercise at home or outdoors! I'll admit I've been drawn to the snacks a lot more, but am doing my darndest to keep up with a 14 to 16 hour fast. Yesterday I did more weeding and stacked firewood in addition to 10,000 steps thanks to walking with my neighbor.
The skimmia japonica right outside our front door is starting to bloom. I can't see many flowers yet but can smell them! One of my favorite flower fragrances! And I see the purple Lupine (another earthy but delightful scent) is coming back with much vigor. That reminds me, I have Lupine seeds for difference colored flowers I need to dig out and get started.
Spring is coming, at least in this hemisphere, no matter what.

Carol: Thanks for the Happy 50. We are planning to stay home and enjoy the view from our windows and will schedule a celebration later when the world is over this virus.
Lanette: We have friends who had a pit bull mix years ago. I don’t have any idea whether the dog is still alive. I don’t see their “charm” but our friend’s dog was well enough trained to be pleasant social company. Bad dogs are often that way due to bad owners. :flowerforyou:
Karen in VA: I love the wise dog telling his human to stop touching his face. DH laughed, too.
Kim: Your gratitudes are heart waming. I am so happy that you have good friends.
Sharon: Our local grocery stores are open and have plenty of food, but no tissue or TP. We have Safeway, IGA, & Walmart. Fred Meyer is in the next town down and they take orders for curbside delivery. Our local IGA did that for us as well. Since we’re in an area with no confirmed cases, people are just going in. Can you call in an order? You have to order in a day or two advance for curbside delivery here.
SuziQ: I love your gratitudes. Thank you for sharing. :flowerforyou:
Barbara: Beautiful thoughts! Thank you.
(((Rita))) Drink lots of water and baby yourself. Vitamin D3 helps me combat the blues. Where you live, a sunbath might give you a big dose of D3. Be careful not to burn. Can you call or send a message to your doctor requesting help and guidance? UTI’s can respond to the right medicine.
I’m counting my blessings today. DH and I are home and safe. The dog is doing well, and we’ve heard from our adult kids. They are well and the grandchildren are doing fine.

I am actually okay with being by myself. But, do feel the need to care for someone and have a hard time just directing all of that care towards myself.
SuziQ – SFL – Where summer temps are expected to last from now through the end of the week.
SuziQ ... I hope you realize that you have been "taking care" of all of us? Your concern and compassion for those you know only through this virtual community is evident in every post. Keeping sharing your thoughts, ideas and tips ... I appreciate it all! And as someone who is the designated caregiver in my home, it's nice to have someone "care" for me ... even from far away.

Bananasandoranges ... good to hear from you! How will things change? My husband and I have been talking about this. I agree that some will lose their jobs as employers realize that a lot of their staff is really unnecessary. I also see businesses utilizing more telecommuting in the future ... reduces overhead. I hope that we'll see more proactive thinking across the board, but this is probably wishful thinking.5

Suzi Q- I pumped gas yesterday band was freaking out..luckily when I got in the car I had lysol wipe travel pack in my purse and wiped down my hands, steering wheel, shift and door handles.. and then when I came home I scrubbed my hands well... we are all just staying far from each other...5

Did Cathe Friedrick Hardcore Series Low Max DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do an Ultimate Weight Training and Cardio DVD. You know what is one good thing about having to workout at home? I downloaded a few DVD’s and I’ve been meaning to do them to see just how much I like them. Well, now I have the time so that’s what I’ll be doing. Like I’m not going to do this DVD again, it just isn’t for me.
I’m really starting to get to the point that I would prefer not to go out. A lot of ads came in the paper today. Usually, I read them and map out which I want to go to. Today, I just put those ads right in recycling without even looking at them.
Another positive about this “lockdown” is that we’re getting less junk mail. There just aren’t people at the companies to send it. We’re not getting bombarded with lots of election stuff. Well, I’m just trying to look for the silver linings
I used to many times just use one piece of TP if I was just going #1 (sorry if TMI). Mainly my thinking was “it’s that much less in my septic”. Now my mindset is “the less I use, the more we have”.
Bananas – thanks for popping in. It was so very interesting reading all about how France is handling this. Look at it this way – you’re not in Italy! I was raised by my grandmother. Things were used over and over until they were threadbare. We live in a throw away society today. Hopefully that would change, but I honestly doubt it.
Kylia – what a novel idea having a class for your neighbors from your backporch. My husband is going thru things he has and is selling some. But he isn’t using eBay. He posts on a train forum and people buy his trains.
Margaret – be safe!
SuziQ – thanks for the tip about the glove. I have these wipes that I always keep with my bag for food. Sometimes you need to wipe your hands like if you have an orange. I think I’ll get that packet and use it. They are flushable personal cleansing wipes. If anything, they’d be a barrier between the handle and my hand. I’ve gotten to where I purchase those large bags of frozen fruit. Even some veges if they come in a large package. Maybe Sams would have some, should check it out one day
I don’t mean to be religious, but I can’t help if this is God’s way of saying “slow down, you don’t need to be so wasteful, see now!”
Amber – I’ve been bringing my tablet to read a book to any doctor’s office for years now. I do hope stores do away with those keypads where you have to input your phone number to get whatever. Well, I believe most stores that have that also have the ability to give you the discount/points/whatever by using your phone number
I don’t recall hearing anything about India. If someplace has lots of people it’s India. Wonder how they’re making out?
Rita – oh, dear. Cranberry juice here you come!
Finally got Vince to put up these 2 things. Put out most of the ceramics yesterday. I had to get on a ladder to get some. I think if I used a large ladder I probably could have gotten more. But oh well… it was getting late and I needed to get dinner ready, anyway

Dad update ^ church had biggest turnout ever! Someone set up a speaker system. The young married couple that was cancelled I simply said this is when you decide what’s more important an instagram worthy wedding but not the guy/gal? Or the being together (courthouse wedding to small ones just as good) in times like this. So got a new married couple today Yaaay!! 20 people in 10cars outside .

Heather: Happy British Mother’s Day to you and your wonderful children and grandchildren.
Sharon near Seattle: I am still worried about you. I hope you will let us know when you have been able to get a reasonable amount of food so that you don’t go hungry.
We’re having another quiet day so far. The weather is beautiful and sunny. Cottonwood trees on the island across from us haven’t started to break dormancy as far as I can tell by looking.

Kylia ~ Your flowers are lovely. Thanks so much for sharing.
Heather ~ That pizza looks YUMMY!
Amber ~ I am glad your dad was able to go on with serving his congregation.
Lanette ~ Sorry about your encounter with the dog. When I took our Pom for walks he always thought he should tear into any other dog we encountered along the way. I was always worried that another dog would kill him or go after me.
Sharon ~ From what I remember, your daughter lives very close to you. Hope she can do some shopping and get you some supplies.
Using washable TP sounds like a good idea. When my 43 yr old son was born, I used cloth diapers mainly because that's what our mom used on all 5 of us children. Couldn't really afford Pampers at that time.
Son did some shopping for us at BJ's and Kroger so we are all set for food and drinks. He left it in the basement garage and DH wiped it down. We always have TP and paper towels because we stock up on it every month or so at Sam's Club.
DH called our renter and told her not to worry about the upcoming rent as we know the restaurant she was working at shut down.

Hi Gals,
Day 4 is hydration and eating healthy. So I had to tell you all about my “salad” last week before the more complete shut down I had gardened in a client’s yard with tons of citrus. So I was given 40 oranges and 3 grapefruit. I have a lemon tree. I have eaten a lot of oranges, made a double batch of marmalade and still have oranges! So I wedged 2 oranges (they are huge) a grapefruit and mixed them and their juice into a can of whole cranberry sauce..it changes it up as I was getting tired of just citrus and is really good. The cranberry sauce had been left from Thanksgiving (end of November) when I didn’t end up using it.
A big upside of all of this is I have lost 4 lbs.
Wish we would hear from Sharon again.

The day has been a positive one. I washed all of the windows inside and out. I cannot believe how much brighter it looks in here. I also washed the bathroom floors and wiped everything down. I dusted all of the furniture upstairs. Things are starting to looking nice and pristine around here. Quite a few projects to go, but am glad with the overall progress. I will get a lot done during my commute-time savings during the work week.
Beth - You are so sweet. Your post made my eyes a little teary. Sending a big virtual hug to you.
Heather - Oh, those pizzas made my mouth water. I see one in my future. Of course I am not sure how far in the future that will be......
Michele - I think none of us will every look at TP the same way again! I am glad I started conserving when I did or I would be in trouble now.
Allie - I have always detested gas pumps because of the things I have seen people doing in their cars. Picking their noses is one of the least disgusting. I do have some disposable gloves (maybe 10 of them) and after my friend's text will definitely have them with me when I have to refill.
Katla - I am glad you are enjoying the weather. I am also concerned for Sharon and hope for a positive update soon.
Another surprise. I went to pull an onion out of the lower vegetable bin and found a beautiful red pepper which would typically be in the upper vegetable bin. I chopped up half and sauteed it with some chopped onion to add some additional flavor to the black beans I am having for dinner. Who would have thought a red pepper could make someone so happy!
I will have to go out next Friday because I must send a certified payment. I am not looking forward to the post office, but did some research and there are two close enough to me with self-service kiosks that are open 24 hours. I will be using my disposable gloves and will be going super early. I also have a payment I must make in person. I will call the company to see if I can pay over the phone. Keep your fingers crossed for me. I think by then I will also need to hit a grocery store. I am not overly excited at the prospect, but am hopeful most people have stocked up and are not running out in droves to the stores. It will be nice to be able to pick up fresh vegetables and fruits.
I emailed the florist who holds the flower classes. They still have not cancelled, which is disturbing because there are typically 25 in the class and we are sitting on top of each other. I asked for a credit which they will not do. I am going to email them again to see if there has been a change of policy. If not I will request the flowers be bundled up along with the container and I will bring all home and make the arrangement here. The class is scheduled for next Saturday.
It has been a beautiful day here with lots of sun and the temperature has been in the low 80s. There is a wonderful breeze. Many butterflies fluttering around.
Hugs to all and prayers for those in need.
