Well today Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina governors' issued "Stay Home" orders. Although COVID-19 is the first topic discussed in any situation, I think it really became "real" to lots of people. Virginia's order is in place until June 10th. I have a sister living in Silver Spring MD, she did not know their governor had issued the order. She works in DC. So she went home and packed up to stay with my Mom in DC. Thank goodness she will be there with Mom. She is required to go into her office once a week, but can telework the remaining days unless DC issues an order.
My work team started planning a "Zoom" happy hour. We all will dress up and prepare our favorite alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverage and video meet online.
Thanks everybody for the wonderful recipes. On Wednesday I"ll be placing my grocery order and praying I can get everything. Not trying to get the most popular items (TP, paper towels, disinfectants) so I should be good.
Be Safe All

We had a beautiful day here after a drizzly cold weekend. Son is respectful of not smoking in front of me. He still is smoking quite a bit, but I didn't say anything. We two delightful walks and after I left after lunch and beore I came back for dinner he walked all the way around the lake that is about a 3 mile walk. DH went to spend time with our other son today. His job is on furlough too.

Annie - I’ve always thought that I had the right to tell my Mother what she should and shouldn’t do if it was in her best interest. Since I’ve started working at the nursing home I have a completely different outlook and am seriously considering writing what anyone can and cannot decide for me and how those decisions should be made. I see both sides of this situation you are in. Breathe through it. In the end I don’t think you want to argue with your Mom.
Michele - at least they are taking the mask home there. Here a lot are throwing their improperly used masks and gloves in parking lots or leaving them in carts so that store staff has to risk themselves even more cleaning it up.
I saw a post from my Mom’s nursing home that they are no longer accepting packages for their residents from families. That will make it difficult for the residents, hopefully all of these measures keep them safe.
It is snowing and -10C again tonight we are supposed to get 20cms.

The memes are hilarious.
There is a YouTube livestream today (Tuesday) at 4pm that may be interesting to some, entitled "Managing Relationships in a Time of Social Distancing" by Dr. Robert Waldinger:3 -

I had a good day today. I ran into a friend at the grocery store. I was happy to see her. She runs a beauty shop & has been required to close for an unknown time. Small business owners are hard hit by governors orders to stay home. It is a good strategy for safety but hard on small businesses. Some restaurants are taking phone orders for pick up. We haven’t tried to place an order so far.
There is an old blessing/curse: May you live in interesting times. Lots of people are impacted.
Stay safe.

Hello everyone.
It is official! I am starting week 3 of working remote and self-isolation. I have put on 1.2 pounds over the month of March. I am attributing it to my lack of planning and being able to graze the kitchen throughout the day. The remote situation is a big adjustment for me because I typically bring my breakfast, lunch, and snacks to work. My April plan is to get back in the habit of packing my work meals the night before and keeping all in one spot with in the refrigerator (my lunch bag).- I am grateful to have another healthy day.
- I am grateful for my courtyard. It provides me with a private place in nature where I can enjoy my coffee while contemplating my day.
- I am grateful for the commute time savings. Yesterday I was able to clean my guest bathroom and all of the glass in the pictures upstairs during the time I would have been on the road.
- I am so incredibly grateful for the full 7 hours of sleep I had gotten last night.
Hugs to all and prayers for those in need.3 -

Tere I sympathize with your itching condition. I have severe eczema with itching and am covered in scabs. The only thing that has worked for me is a drug called Dupixent which is an injection you give yourself bi-monthly. It works extremely well, but is ridiculously expensive, even with help. I also “grease up” with steroid ointments and feel about as thrilled at the idea of foreplay as you sound…too itchy!
Heather The flowers are beautiful and the scones look delicious!! You are so wonderful to do all that while everything else is going on. I am very inspired! I want to cry looking at the children wanting you inside!! Very sad. I guess all this will make them appreciate you even more once you can get together again! Picture enjoying scone…SO sweet! I’m with Michele on wanting to come over for scones! 😊
Annie So sorry you are having trouble keeping your parents home. I hope they don’t bring the virus home to you. I’m sure it is very frustrating for you!
Margaret Looking forward to your hand washing song, although my University (Michigan) posted that our fight song is just the right length also. Makes washing hands more fun for me and can’t wait for the grand baby to be old enough to learn it. (I already sing it to her…she has no choice but to be a Michigan Wolverine whether she grows up in NC or not!)
Karen So sorry about your ex not being careful! Makes me very sad for you!
Kylia Sorry you have chronic infection. It’s good you know what is going on and hopefully they can completely cure it for you!
Sue So sorry to see what you have been going through! Glad you are back home!
Amber I’m so very sorry about your Aunt!! I hope you are okay! I love the Clara videos! About DH’s back…has he tried Biofreeze? I used to give to clients with good results. Also, Salon Pas and the lidocaine patches. Have helped me when I wasn’t able to get to chiropractor or massage therapist. Should be able to get all of them online.
Janet Keeping your niece and her husband in my prayers! A very scary illness for someone in her condition!
Pip Congrats on the long rides! That’s wonderful! Makes me realize how inactive I am…there is no way I would ride to babysit! (I drag my body out of the house at the end of the day and plop into the car – lol.)
Video calls are really helping me. I wish there was a way we could Zoom or something to get this group together. I would be willing to do it in the middle of the night if it would mean we could meet up with a bunch of us from all over the world! You ladies are such an inspiration and I look forward to opening my computer and reading everything you write each day! Anyone who is skilled at this sort of thing willing to try to set something up???
Tere My DH is 68, I couldn’t slow him down (he has threatened to put a new roof on the house). This last blood clot has really taken a toll though. I am hoping he will be okay after it’s over, but honestly, I have watched him aged incredibly in a couple of weeks. I hope he recovers to where he was before!
SuzyQ The F bomb is so appropriate there! Lol! Amen, to social distancing from the fridge!! I need to avoid the pantry, too! I guess the one thing I shouldn’t distance myself from is water! But I hate water. Doggy…this is why I chew the furniture…ROTFL! Your memory of your Mom with the Playtex gloves reminded me of my Momma. It’s been so long… OMGosh! – knitting the scarf for her husband…lolol! Love your Supervisor!
Ginny Saw a little of your governor yesterday – seems like he is attacking things well. A little funny at our house, DH was reading something about his Dr (Oncologist/Hematologist) and said, Oh no, Luci, he’s from Columbus and went to OSU! I told him I forgave him (lol) and that it was actually a great school, but I would deny it to any of my MI friends…I really do believe we had equally wonderful educations, but I think of all the people who make jokes about the other school serving them at McDonalds, etc.
Katla I haven’t seen humming birds this year either…I wonder if they are hiding somewhere??
Kim Sounds like you have done a great job preserving your budget! It was well worth wearing your headset for the day to get payments worked out. I wish DH would let us work a few things out. Even though we are on a fixed income, with the stock market taking such a hit, what little we had saved up is almost gone. I would feel more comfortable with a little more to live off in the future! Our monthly income is very low. Once again, we don’t need a lot, so I am not complaining.
Beth OMGosh that cake looks yummy! I haven’t had cake since a year ago, December!
Rebecca Oh, Athena is just so adorable I can’t stand it!!! What a little doll! I can’t imagine one meal a day, but your testimony about your skin and the fact that I am gaining weight and feeling worse has got me thinking… I’m so excited to hear the big changes going on for you! I can hear how excited you are, and I your hair is adorable! The Daddy and Athena pic is great, too! What a beautiful cat!!
Michele We have our wasps and yellow jackets out in full force again. It’s been so nice out here the past few days. I’m so disappointed, because I love sitting on the deck, but they love coming after me on the deck. ☹ DH has a couple of the apple juice traps out for them, but they still like to come see me. I’m allergic, so I don’t relax around them very well.
Machka Love your new fur baby pictures!! I love the meme – I feel the same way! I prefer animals over people most of the time!!
Bananasandoranges Good to see you! Thank you so much for the video. Great information and obviously from an expert in the field! I have put about 7 pounds back on much to my disappointment. Like you, I think it is lack of movement as we are in the house and not out walking around as we normally would. I need to increase walks…I know how important it is…especially with my diabetes. Also, as some others have suggested, even walking in place while watching tv, etc., would help. I am sorry you are limited to one hour outside per day. We are fortunate to be able to go outdoors as much as we like, just stay away from other people. We have a good size yard, so I can go out and play with the dogs without getting near anyone. DH being on bed rest has limited my movement more than anything. I hate to leave him alone in case he needs anything. I’m sorry France has had such a rough time with leadership and information. It is frustrating in the US, too, as we get conflicting information and there is question as to whether the president is handling any of this correctly.
Viv Love the pictures of doggy and horsy!! Amazing how precious animals are and how they can lighten our spirits so quickly! I’ve only been to the grocery store once to pick up prescriptions, but our store has employees disinfecting the entire carts before you go in the store. I really appreciate that! I have always been one to clean the handle before using because so many little children ride in the front of the basket with lots of germs on their hands. It has helped with the number of illnesses I have gotten and especially cases of pink eye!
Lisa Levi is such a cutie!!
Karen Adorable little Lilliana!!
Barbara Thank you for the encouragement on ending my habit. It’s not easy at all. I quit for a couple of years but started back up when my father-in-law was dying. Now it is time to be finally done forever. I certainly don’t want to be a smoker around my grandchildren!!
Rita Great blog! Wonderful pictures and recipes!
Please stay healthy, Ladies!! Much love to All!! Luci in WNC

All right, I'm kinda over it. I can deal with the quarantine and social distancing, and I can deal with the rain, but all of it at once is just getting on my last nerve. I need some dang sunshine.
What it is telling me, though, is how hard this is on those who live in urban areas - where going outside makes it so hard to maintain social distance of any kind. And, since 84% of the U.S. lives in cities, that's why the whole bunch think they must stay inside.
Thinking of all of you, reading your posts, love y'all,

Lisa - That is on the lines of what I told my hubs this morning as we got ready for the day. I told him I was very thankful we hadn't been forced to move to Cali for his job. Here we have about 4 acres and a shop we can putter in. There we would be in a one bedroom+study or 2 bedroom condo/townhouse type setup (that would be all we could afford) with possibly no outdoor space of our own.

Yep, that's exactly it. We have 11 acres to wander around in, and we have each other. There are so many worse places to be... and if I hadn't already been convinced I never want to live in a city again, this would seal that deal. I've never understood why people feel they must live on top of each other.

Rough morning so far. I’m sure it will improve. Up at 5 with headache, Baby and Hubby are still asleep (9:10), SO hungry…ah well…this too shall pass. Think I will play some Just Dance 2020 for exercise today. 😊 Baby likes to watch. Hope everyone is doing okay! Thinking of all of you and praying things improve for all of us very soon!
Amber We can all say we knew you before you became an internet star!!
Tracey Funny memes!!

Allie - sorry, honey, wasn't criticizing, I just really don't understand it. I get claustrophobic at the thought of sharing a wall with anyone. Maybe because I grew up in the country, I don't know.4

My daughter is a gazelle. Her apartment is on the edge of a vast recreation area, hilly and wooded, with lots of jogging trails - where she runs about 2000 miles a year. Ordinarily she's all by herself our there except for the occasional dog-walker. Now that everybody who can is supposed to work remotely, it appears they've all decided to head for the woods! My daughter still goes running, though, waving and greeting people from a respectful distance. She explains: "It puts the social into social distancing."
I'm out of my 14-day self-quarantine after arriving in Svalbard. Yesterday I went out for a long walk with a friend, staying a good distance apart. It was -17°C out (that's about 1°F) but very little wind and the sun was shining. With pure white snow everywhere, it was incredibly bright. We'd been out for over a hour when we came to a patch of shade behind a building. My UV sensitive glasses had darkened to solid black and I couldn't see a thing. Walking blind, I didn't see the unevenness in the icy surface and took a magnificent swan dive flat on my face. A woman who saw my feat said "Whoa! You live dangerously!"
I'm okay, apart from minor bruises on my knees and my dignity. Next time I'll wear my studded jogging shoes!
Life goes on up here. We have no cases of covid-19, but there are significant challenges. Some of the most wrenching stories in the local Facebook feeds are from the owners of dogsledding companies. They normally take in two-thirds of their annual income in March and April. Obviously they're not selling any excursions now, but the dogs continue to eat, and dog food is very expensive up here. Some outfits are begging locals to adopt dogs so they aren't forced to euthanize them all.
But the sun is back and it will soon be light 24/7. Just to show what I mean, here's what the sky looks like at 11 pm. Already! Just 10 days after the equinox!

I've just rung my friend who is up in York at the moment. She's almost fully over the virus now, but I can't persuade her to volunteer for anything, even though she lives alone and is very frustrated. There was also a long story about the car, but I bit my tongue and just let her unload. She has a long history of mental health problems, so I must remember she is doing very well.
Now I've prepped all the stir fry veggies and I'm going to do some rowing and biking while watching Great British Bake Off, Stand Up to Cancer. It's basically celebrities making a terrible mess of it for charity, but it is amusing!

Rebecca: We visited Whidbey several years ago. We were considering retiring there. It was my impression that the western side of the island was arid and windy, while the eastern side was sheltered and more gentle. Sometime after our visit, parts of the western side of the island fell into the ocean. Yikes! :noway:
Pip: I looked me up—this is day 2725. That is 7.46 years. I’ll happily keep chasing you. You’re a champion.
Penny: Your home is in a beautiful place. What a lovely photo.
Breakfast is nearly ready and I need to do my part. Have a great day.!
