Luci in WNC: Thank you for your good wishes for DS, DDIL and her whole family. DDIL’s Mom has been the heart of the family and this is hard for everyone. :broken_heart:

Kylia: Prayers for your MIL and the whole family. :star:

Rebecca: That is the best Easter Basket, ever!

I had a wonderful phone chat with my daughter and her family this evening. I am so happy to get the chance to talk to them. Their little town had an Easter Parade with floats and candy, and they all had a grand time. The call left me feeling happy. I especially enjoyed my granddaughter giggling.

Karen - I bought the 50s style one as I have a lot of 50s styling in my kitchen. Amazon did not give me the option of blue to go with my Kitchenaid and clock, so I got the black to go with my toaster and scales. I could have got cream to go with my fridge and my bread bin, but I'm probably going to change those one day. I didn't even bother to read the reviews. I've been through so many kettles in the last few years I don't think any of them are perfect, but DS has the same model Dualit and it is still going after a few years of abuse, and the water doesn't taste of plastic, so I guess it's as good as any. ;)
Says it's arriving on Friday, but recently things have been coming earlier than they say. I'm limping along with my travel kettle. Strange to have to plug the thing together every time. :p
We haven't been spending any money recently on going out etc, so there's a bit more cash in the joint account. Our pension is still turning up as before. Normally I would look at the cheaper options and resign myself to it not lasting very long. I do hate that plastic taste, so I always read the reviews for that.

We would now be on the coach for our trip to the fishing village. 52 m winds and 3°C. :# Last time we stopped at Haugesund we went on a sunny boat trip to a waterfall and had lunch at a lovely family farmhouse. Weird to think of it. So many small businesses affected all over the world.

As I like to say today is Monday fun day!

I awakened a few times last night and was able to fall right back in to a nice sleep. Most times these types of sleeps happen during the workweek. All is good. I had a productive, restful, lovely weekend.

For what am I grateful for this morning.
    • I am grateful to be alive.
    • I am grateful to be able to go to work this morning and my commute is a few steps away.
    • I am grateful for the lovely dinner I was able to procure for my Easter dinner. It consisted of roasted corn with fresh tarragon grown in my garden, twice-baked sweet potatoes, and filet mignon.
    • I am grateful to be able to take a nice, hot shower this morning with towels fresh out of the dryer.
    • I am grateful for my life's experiences. Through these experiences I am a stronger person and am able to weather troubling times and events.

I hope everyone has had, is having, or has a good day.

    Peace to all.

SuziQ - is this not a holiday Monday? It is in the UK.

My hair has dye on it. I have changed the bed linen to wash. I don't have a tumbler dryer, but I do have a utility room with one of those old fashioned pulley airers. Brilliant!

@Kylia i'm very sorry for your MIL, for your DH and you. Thinking of you.

@Heather and Machka here it's more or less keep moving or go home but i guess older people are allowed to sit down a bit. No particular age indicated. i see not so old people sitting here and there discretely, in a doorstoop or curb or something. All public toilets, playgrounds and outside free sports equipment are closed. Here one can be only alone or in families. you can't be in twos unless you are in the same family here.

@Machka, ah hot flashes. i never got much at all. my sister used to get serious ones pretty often and for a few years. i bought a new floor fan online. we are likely to be quarantined till late may and my current fan functions on and off. airing out places is recommended at present and in general. i have a wall of windows on just one side in square apartment. on 6th floor there is often a breeze but the fan is welcome for airing out quickly in the evening or morning.

@Michele, here in Paris it's been illegal to hang clothes outside, visible for decades. even on balcony is not allowed. most people have compact fold-out drying racks with 3 or 4 levels for inside. They work very well. I think when you wax or similar to hair it grows less little by little. For COVID deaths the calculations will be final afterwards by comparing death rates, relative to this time of year most years. yes heart, lungs or other organ failure.

@Amber i can't believe they had a barbecue. I'm not into calling cops on neighbors but that is too much.

@Grandemaille, i imagine they thought they were doing right sending her home.

@Rebecca i don't write list by aisle but by category. i go to some different shops (organic shop, non-organic etc) there are a dozen supermarkets within 10 min walk from me. AND the shops have an annoying practice of changing the places of SOME products from time to time: the marketing idea: it gets you to walk in aisles you don't usually walk in and buy more. i don't know if it works. i don't like it.

I'm pretty sure there will be no face to face school till September. some people are very happy with the status quo. i think i'd like it in a happy relatively peaceful couple. I don't feel like it's ideal to be alone all the time for 6 months, even with zoom, phone etc. I don't miss commuting to one place - a bit far, i don't miss the noise and pollution, but i like seeing humans, friends, colleagues, students, live.

i find it hard to stay focused and positivity active. now a week of school vacation.

Heather - Easter Monday is not a holiday in the US. Some businesses give you Good Friday off, but that is getting less and less "normal". Most of the places I have worked in the last decade or so now give you a personal holiday to use as you wish. It was intended to level the playing field so those that aren't Christian could use it to celebrate a holiday of their religion and aren't "forced" to take Good Friday off.

And this is similar to our Gratitude Calendar that we've done in Novembers.

Coping Calendar: Keep Calm. Stay Wise. Be Kind.

    pivyc8y01ncs.png
    1. Make a plan to help you keep calm and stay in contact.
Part of my plan is to stay home more days each week. I'm getting stuff done, spending time with my husband, and avoiding the crowds. :)

Today I'm particularly happy because I've been able to spend the whole day at home getting a bit of extra rest, listening to classical music on ABC, and working on my uni homework while my husband has been busy doing stuff in the kitchen.

In a hour and a half or so, I'll go downstairs to exercise. We would go outside, but it has been a rainy day so we've been cozy inside.

    2. Enjoy washing your hands. Remember all they do for you.
They do a lot of typing ...which reminds me that I should also wipe down my keyboard more regularly. But I do actually like washing my hands. With my hot flashes, and with exercise, my hands are often quite damp. Washing with soap dries them up a little.

Last weekend I also did my nails with 5 different pastel colours of gel nailpolish. :)

    3. Write down 10 things you feel grateful for and why.
    10 Things

    1. My comfortable home with its garden and view of the bay.
    2. My husband and the fact that, despite the severity of his brain injury, he has made a "remarkable recovery".
    3. The support of my parents even over long distances.
    4. University ... which is keeping me occupied.
    5. Work ... which is keeping me occupied.
    6. Cycling ... which keeps me fit.
    7. Music ... which I've been listening to a lot.
    8. Internet ... with which I keep connected.
    9. New audio visual system which is keeping us entertained.
    10. God ... who is still in control.

    4. Stay hydrated, eat healthy food, and boost your immune system.
I have to drink a lot of water to keep my kidneys in good shape. I do try to eat a fairly healthy diet as well. :)

    5. Get active. Even if you're stuck indoors, move and stretch.
Absolutely!! Every day! On that note, I'm up to 352 flights of stairs in March. Each flight is 20 stairs.

    6. Contact a neighbour or friend and offer to help them.
We don't see much of our neighbours, but do kind of watch out for one.

And right now my work colleagues (and friends) and I are helping each other move home.

    7. Share what you are feeling and be willing to ask for help.
What am I feeling. It's a real mix. I'm happy I'm working from home and taking uni online. But this week I've been fighting back tears from time to time. Moving home made it real.

Our lives have changed and the changes will keep coming for months ahead.

Also, the beginning of the week (Mar 22) was the 2-year anniversary of my husband's accident so ... memories.

    8. Take 5 minutes to sit and breathe. Repeat regularly.
I'll do that tomorrow, I think.

It's Friday night and this week has been a little overwhelming. Last weekend I was madly working on an assignment. Submitted it on Monday + intense week at work.

A good night's sleep and I'll be able to breathe a little bit more in the morning. :)

    9. Call a loved one to catch up and really listen to them.
I'm not good at calling people ... a little bit of a phone phobia. But I email lots! :)

    March 30
    10. Get good sleep. No screens?? Well some nights I read a paper book. I am working on getting more sleep and better sleep, but lately I've been tense at night again.

    March 31
    11. Notice 5 things that are beautiful in the world around me. That's easy!!
    • Rhody
    • Roses ... and BTW, Rhody is the Greek word for Rose :)
    • The beach
    • The waves crashing against the rocks
    • Green ... nature

    April 1
    12. Immerse yourself in a new book, TV show or podcast.
I don't do podcasts and the TV shows I watch are "old" ... but I have started a new-to-me book. :)

    April 2
    13. Respond positively to everyone you interact with.
Today has been a good day for that. We nipped out to get a few things this afternoon and talked pleasantly to the checkout people. :)

    April 3
    14. Play a game that you enjoyed when you were younger.
I haven't done this yet, but I think I will pause and play some majong shortly. :)

I did go cycling yesterday and that's been a game I've enjoyed for ages. :)

    April 4
    15. Make some progress on a project that matters to you.
I have done some of this, in a way. Today I've been tidying, organising and cleaning. My home office area (in the dining room) looks a lot better (not quite so cluttered) and I've cleared a spot so that Rhody can sit beside me.

I've been busy catching up on a lot of things so I can start my week a little more prepared.

    April 5
    16. Discover your favourite music that really lifts your spirits.
I have been listening to ABC Classic during the day most days and have been enjoying it. It's interesting, varied and relaxing. :)

    April 6
    17. Learn something new or do something creative.

Well ... my courses. I'll be working on one of them this evening.

    April 7
    18. Fun way of doing an extra 15 min of activity? Does walking up and down the hallway tossing a purple mouse for my kitty each evening count?

    April 8
    19. Three acts of kindness? Smiling and being kind to sales people. Chatting to them briefly in a normal friendly way. Waving and saying hi to people walking on the other side of the street. Trying not to stress my husband out.

    April 9
    20. Make time for myself. Do something kind for myself. Exercise maybe? I'm having trouble with this one.

    April 10
    21. Send a letter or message to someone you can't be with.

We and my parents have Skyped twice in very recent times!! :)

    April 11
    22. Find positive stories in the news and share these with others

    April 12
    23. Have a tech-free day.

OK ... this is not going to happen. But parts of my day are somewhat tech-free.

    April 13
    24. Put your worries into perspective and try to let them go.

My worries. Hmmm  Add a few more rings in there for my husband's situation, my parents on another continent, my brother and his kids, the fact that we haven't been able to leave the island for 2 years and it could be another 2 years before we can ... sigh.

SuziQ - is this not a holiday Monday? It is in the UK.

    Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx

At Easter, we have Good Friday, Easter Monday, and because I'm in government ... Easter Tuesday. :)

Plus I've also taken the rest of the week off. I took it off before all this happened, and decided to keep my holiday days so that I could work on my assignments and catch up on a few things.

HEATHER glad you had your zoom session with grandkids. I’ve got my hair colour just got to get organised to do it, DH says he will help with the back. Will be interesting

It is a 4 day holiday for anyone in an office. Not for key workers, obviously. A lot of people do take the week on top.

Karen - I think that's the one. :D Hey, we are twins. :D

Heather I love this style but I have decided in the last few minutes to order a smaller one, so am giving up the lovely high quality Dualit plans for a 1-liter kettle that will suit our space and requirements:

Things to consider for an electric kettle-
Bph free so you are not drinking nasty chemical residue
Does the outside get really hot? Some are tricky to pour without burning fingers

Odd on the electric kettle - I just bought one probably two months ago, and haven't owned one since I lived in England a century ago. They're just incredibly handy, and no day goes by without one of us using it for something. We just bought the little one from Walmart - didn't want plastic, and refuse to use glass--my own phobia. The only thing I genuinely dislike about it is the indicator placement, it's impossible to see whether it's full or not from the outside, so I do strongly suggest you get one with the indicator on the side. Annie - and yes, mine gets really hot on the outside, so I need to be mindful where it's sitting.

I just watched this and it's beautiful.

I haven't been to Italy, but the pictures of the quiet streets of London and Paris at the end were a little bit heart wrenching. And I miss Europe. I can hardly believe it's been 8 years since I've been.
