My favorite foods:
A good hearty soup with that oil sheen on top, with potayoes, wild rice, chicken or kielbasa sausage.
Biscuits and sausage gravy
Fresh spinach with cranberries, almonds, and blue cheese crumbles, and dressing a bright citrus, or balsamic.
Smoked salmon, with hearty crackers, cream cheese, or cheddar.
Oatmeal cooked with milk, cubes of apples in it. Blobs of butter pressed in, with brown sugar. A moat of milk around.
Creamy fried eggs with country fried hash browns, and toast with honey.
Favorite drinks:
Coffee
hot Spicy chai tea with milk in it.
Crystal Ice bottles, grapfruit, black cherry, lemonade
Chocolate milk
I'm such a food snob now.😂😂

Allie: Congrats on your wonderful adult children. Mine are wonderful, too. We are both blessed.
Pam AKA NavyWife55: Welcome to a great group! There are others with navy connections.
Lanette: I’d also be willing to try another option if I was in pain and there was a possibility for improvement. All of us are 100% likely to die someday. We hope it happens in the long-term future and is pain free. My DH is currently taking a new/old medicine that he and his doctor hope will help him live longer and more comfortably. I am keeping my fingers crossed that the medicine will help him feel better and be worth his effort to try. So far it seems to be helping. :flowerforyou:
Barbie: I could be very happy with your favorite foods. Your list and mine are very similar.

Morning
Feeling a bit tired this morning, went for a very long dog walk yesterday, poor Leah was getting a bit manic and needed a good walk . We left it until early evening hoping it would be quieter. We still met quite a few people though, especially dog walkers and joggers. Only one person didn't give us space, a jogger ran up from behind us! We would have crossed over the road if we'd seen him.
I managed to get stocked up with food from my trip to Tesco, had to wait in a long queue before getting into the store, but it was a lovely sunny day, so I didn't mind. Stocked up on a few things for my mum too. I tried to be as quick as I could so ended up forgetting a few things, but at least we have some food in the cupboard now.
Terri what a scary story, glad you got back safely. Has it put you off cruising?
Amber well done to get to 75% of your goal.
Machka hugs to you, after your explanation and photo of your husband, I can understand why you are worried about Covid -19.
Better get on.
Love to all

Woke up this morning knowing it was going to be another hot day. Decided to go out for my run early. There was a bit of sea mist coming in, but I dressed in my tight, sleeveless Lycra running top.
Ooops! It was really chilly that early! Never mind, set off, listening to my Soul Music podcasts - one was Civil Rights Music and the other was Bach's Ich haber genug.
The air smelt heavenly, chilly and fresh, with all the scents of the flowers and burgeoning leaves. Our elms are coming into leaf down the avenues, lilac, clematis, iris, flowering cherries and some early roses. Our wisteria is just coming out and bending over our fence. It was heaven! No traffic.
On the seafront there were plenty of locals out early. Runners, cyclists, swimmers, walkers. Still enough room to weave around and keep distance, so I ran down the busier end. The sun was burning through the mist.
Later today the visitors will crowd in and it won't be possible to run. The police will be out in force. I'm really glad I went early. The smell reminded me of the summer before we left Hampshire which was really, really hot and I used to get up at 6 am to run. That same chilly caress in the air. I'm not good in the heat, but love the strong colours of the slanting sun.
Came home and did my floor stretches and weights. Then finished off with 20 minutes rowing. Hooray! I'm going to do some more rowing and biking after lunch.
Tonight is the Guinea Fowl I had in my delivery. Cabbage and some other veg that DH has been out to buy this morning. Newspaper and milk. Also fruit. Today is reading the newspaper day.
Had my coffee, now to read.

Lisa and Tere So sorry for your losses. Hugs and warm thoughts.
Machka Top foods
Homemade chicken with fluffy dumplings
My Aunt Sally's Lasagna
Fresh tomatos any way
Chocolate Mousse
I guess I only have those....food has never been a big issue for me. I ate because I had to. My mother would actually salivate at food descriptions. I do know that the only thing i really like about eating out is choices. I generally prefer to eat at home. Husband is burgers and fries.

Hello everyone.
I am grateful for....- Another healthy day of life.
- The rain we are having this weekend.
- The quiet of an early morning.
- A full pantry and loaded refrigerator and freezer.
A little slow this morning which is actually good. I have not had an inactive day in quite some time. I think in my effort to put covid-19 thoughts out of my head I have been moving from one thing to the next. I will be nice to have some down time.
Hugs and prayers to all.3 -
Machka I love refried beans and guacamole. I like avocados sliced in sandwiches too. Last nights dinner was line tortilla chips, leftover refried beans, guacamole, pico de gallo, and some grilled chicken breast. Yummy! Husband wasn't hungry, was I was creative.

Hi
TOMATOES: I had no idea that many people really disliked tomatoes. I used to love a really good garden-fresh or similar tomato and avoid all off-season, or sad excuses for tomatoes. Then about 3 yrs ago my accupunturist, a 60+ Asian medical dr told me to avoid tomatoes (among other things) as, according to him: too acid. So i have and i don't miss them much. I remember my mom's garden tomatoes, some great tomatoes bought in italy and a few things like that. Sauce: Ok but in small doses. Not actually my favorite. I worked once in a common kitchen and the rule was something like: no tomato sauce sort of thing more than every 3-4 days due to acidity on stomach.
A LOT OF US WOULD BE CATS
Yesterday i asked students what they might have discovered or learned. Some: really nothing they said, they are just waiting in their room, and doing their best to make it. Others said they learned to bake some new deserts, others: reading, others doing more sports at home...2 -
Too hard to say top 3 or 4 or 5 meals or foods.
But i can say what comes to mind now.
(1) I really like my breakfast: combo of just a little unsweetened cereal (often high protein), possibly coconut powder, seeds, soy yogurt, soy milk, banana slices, sometimes berries, sometimes a spoon of apple sauce, sometimes gomasio. it tends to vary from day to day and it seems like a good protein-y fruity beginning. (2) Green tea: i know it's not a food, but i love to drink a pot. it wakes me up slightly and it has no calories and is comforting to start the day or for afternoon break on non-confinement days. (3) I just had a pastry with meringue, cream and berries from the bakery. A lovely naturally GF desert i can still enjoy. Very pretty and tasty. (4) Veggie soup w beans and curry and coconut powder, (different variations). Healthy, comforting, tasty. (5) Toasted chestnut-rice-soy bread with olive oil and salt (a recent pleasure), small dense slices.2 -
@Heather they were not advising masks here and now they are talking about requiring them on the subway (probably). Same in NYC. They were not recommended and then suddenly they were recommended. I think the non-recommendation is related to shortage which is understandable. here there were not enough for health care professionals so they were discouraging the general population from wearing them. Then they promised free cloth masks for all 2 million parisians a few weeks ago within a couple of days. didn't deliver. Now masks (not sue which kind) promised for May.
@HEather, i checked out the video. nice. i had never even heard of a ration pack. i'm admirative of people able to to youtube channels. i can now teach modest classes on zoom but i'm not the right person to do a youtube channel. I'm impressed by people who can be pretty natural and at ease in front of the camera.1 -
@Tere I'm sorry for your losses.0

@Terri lobster is high on my list too.1

@ginnytez nice to hear from you.0

@heather & @Michele, living in central paris i never go out w/out a mask. most days i go for a walk. if i walk early and cross few people i often have it pulled down. if i go into a shop or cross people or if it's late in the day i have it more up. it's hard to have it up 100% of time outside, can't smell or feel anything that way. and with warmer weather it's too much.
@ah, whole categories of food makes it more generous! i did think of avocados, but i eat them less and less as they are more and more expensive. i know that is not the question (and i did include lobster in list B, which is not cheaper than avocado).0 -
the dermatologist thinks i may have shingles! the GP seen live and present had suggested ringworm or lyme's and suggested i send a photo to dermatologist (only online appointments re possible for dermatologists at present). the dermatologist said, no a bug bite. then when she realized there were two she thought it could be shingles and prescribed medication that one has to take quickly. both she and the nice pharmacist said there are on side effects if i don't have shingles. What a pain in the butt. (pun intended).
Went for a nice walk after that. as positive as i have been trying to be about it (discovering new little streets and paths) i'm getting bored with my 1km radius that i'm allowed to walk in. There is one path i take less often which i save for a sort of a different day (it's not better its just different) which i took today. it was ok. i was less into it than some days.
i enjoyed reading on the balcony to start the day. that is about the best part of the day at present.2 -
SuziQ I understand the downtime. I left my work stuffs at work yesterday. I have worked about 10 hours extra at home this week, was heading to visit MIL, and just needed time off. Enjoy your downtime
Husband and I went to see his mom last night. He went in. They opened the window for me. They have her so drugged up that it was like talking to a drunk. On Monday we were having conversations and she was walking around the house. Even on Wednesday, she was still having good conversations when she left the hospital. They said she hadn't had any meds since 1130, yet it took 30 mins at 530 to get her to wake up. My husband's presence was calming for her. My MIL thinks that honey and a tylenol will cure anything. She doesn't like meds at all. The nurses asked if she wanted more meds. She told them no! I told them no! She was obviously drugged out. She isn't use to laying around. The upside is she took some water from a spoon, ate some ice chips, and ate some jello with us there and kept it down. We need her home. She will haunt us if she dies in hospice!
I am thankful husband got to spend time with her even if he was scared and didnt understand what she was saying. She smiled when she heard my voice. I am sure I sounded like a crazy woman yelling her name from the window. Oh well. I did think this morning that maybe they have her so drugged so that she isn't embarrassed by the catheter and diaper. She is still clogged. If they could get the clog to let go, we might get a couple of good months, but right now it is a slow death. Thank you for your hugs and warm wishes.

Kylia with head still above water in Ohio5 -
Greetings one and all.
It is going to be a lazy Saturday for me. I have felt the need to have one over the past two days and struggled to motivate myself to work.
Meg – All of the specialists have stated we should stick to our routines. If we get up, shower, do our hair, etc. before heading out to work we should continue the practice.
Kylia – Sending prayers and positive thoughts to you and your family. It has got to be a very challenging time especially for your DH. I just read he finally got to see her. I pray you are able to get her home.
Terri – Pirates! Oh, my. TG passengers realized what was happening and did not stand by for someone else to handle.
Rebecca – Beautiful engagement ring. So happy you can now wear it!! Great milestone.
Barbie – Your tulips are magnificent. They have yet to develop decent tulip or daffodil bulbs that will survive our rainy season. They basically turn to mush. I have attempted to put up bulbs, but have not had any success.
Facemasks – In the county in which I live facemasks are now required any time you want to be in a public space (grocery, doctor’s office, post office, etc.).
Heather – The reason why many locations are stating for us to wear facemasks is to protect others should we actually have covid-19 and sneeze or cough. The masks restrict some of the spray. I am finding the mask actually helps me not touching my face in public and reminds me to sanitize my hands prior to doing so (if I must). Your vacuum comment cracked me up! Your morning run sounded delightful.
Machka – The high risk list is the formula to a healthier life – all the things we should be doing. One thing missing from your dental hygiene is a daily flossing. Great news about the van! Yeah!!
https://www.health.harvard.edu/diseases-and-conditions/gum-disease-and-the-connection-to-heart-disease
Lisa – Oh, my, I am so sorry to hear about your SIL’s daughter. So sad and a horrible loss for her. And, it’s true – there are no words.
Tere – So sorry to hear about your family’s losses. Virtual hug to you and yours.
Amber – 75% to goal. WTG!!
Like many I would want to be a cat too, but a spoiled rotten housecat. I would not want to be an alley cat. LOL!!
Hugs to all,
SuziQ - SFL3 -
I am 48 pages behind. Not even going to try to catch up.
Marianne WV6 -
I wear a mask to protect others.
No one, except someone who lives alone and has been in strict quarantine for 2 weeks, can say that they don't have COVID-19.
Asymptomatic individuals in (indoor) public spaces (shops, indoor markets, butchers, bakeries, grocery stores, etc.) are the main reservoir for the spread of the virus.
Healthcare workers on the front line are the most likely to fall into this category, but anyone can be an asymptomatic carrier.
This is why I have worn a mask in public for the last 6 weeks.
Not because my President, Prime Minister, Governor, Councillor, or Mayor mandates it.
It is my personal choice to protect other people.
In China, people yell at people without masks until they put on their mask. They even have "yelling drones" to exhort people to use masks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9bbAmfLLWQ
I'm really glad I don't live in China.
I'm really glad I live in a country where I can express my opinion without fear.
My opinion is that people should wear masks in public to protect others.

Marianne- I will catch up but kind of just jumped in where I was at!2

Holy Cats! I slept in until 7:30! I went to bed last night at 9:00 so that I could get a full 8 hours and get up in time to make out my shopping list. 10 1/2 hours of sleep. I feel a bit "meh", with a slight headache (most likely from sleeping in). BUT, Tim hasn't figured out our shopping budget for this week yet; so I have time to make the list, shower, and chat a bit.
Kylia- Sending prayers to you and your family!
Tere- So sorry to hear of your losses! Hugs to you and yours
Lisa- Oddly enough, I was just speaking to a friend (who lost her son 15 years ago, when he was 17) about that very "lack of word". We used the same phrase, albeit in different words. We surmised that perhaps "to say the word is to speak it into being". Sending love and peace to you and Corey.
Terri - I remember you telling us about being attacked by Somali pirates. I don't think you gave us the details. Wow! I can picture the battle in my head! Thank God for the people that can respond and fight at those times! I wonder if the crew had this plan (to use chairs and fire hoses) in case of attack?! Astounding!
Well, I am going to leave it here, for now, so I can get busy. I want to go back and find the questions so I can answer them, but that will have to wait until after I get my "have to do" list done. See you all later today! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)3 -
Karen VA- Jumping back on. I gave my husband a dressing down, yesterday. He went out (bank, and a couple stores). He came back home and proceeded to complain about everything that is closed (he hasn't been in town since this started) and about the number of people with masks on. THEN, I realized that he didn't wear his mask. My husband with the low (to the point of nearly non existent) immune system, did NOT wear his mask! His reason: "He feels like he is being manipulated by our governor; and he won't put on a mask (like the sheeple) and keep the fear going." I blew up! Pretty much asked him if he knew that HE is the reason I am taking the precautions that I am in my home with my childcare families. HE is the reason I am cleaning and sanitizing for an hour and a half EVERY.SINGLE.EVENING. after the kids get picked up. HE is the reason I wear a mask whenever I leave the house. HE is the reason... I have never wanted to strangle him more. He then mumbled, "I never asked you to do all of this." to which I replied, "NO, you didn't; but I do it because I love and care about you. THAT is why I wear a mask and clean like a maniac. Do you understand? These people might be thinking of themselves; but they are more likely thinking of their older parents, children, and others that they love and not wanting to bring the virus home to them. " He just nodded and went downstairs to his office. I love him, but we truly are the Yin and the Yang/ two sides of a coin. He exhausts me.11
-
Tere - please add me to the voices of those who are so sorry to hear about your family's losses.
Terri - not sure I'd ever get on a boat again after that experience! But then, I have a thing about being on water and out of sight of land. Not even interested to do that.
Finished copying files back and forth this morning - backing up all my personal files into my OneDrive, which means I've finally given in to the ubiquity of Microsoft. Ah well, we all have to dabble with the dark side of The Force eventually, I guess. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
For work, I added some safety moves as well. Made sure everything on my laptop was copied into my work One Drive and everything on the work One Drive into my personal server folder. With restore points on my laptop, that gets me to the level of triple redundancy, which makes me very happy. I try to do it once a month, but it can't really be done on a workday anymore, as it takes more than an hour with everyone offsite and piped in through VPNs. On a weekend morning, a half hour at most.
The violent weather predicted for last night passed us by pretty much, for which I'm grateful. My sister and nieces took some baseball-sized hail last week in southwestern Oklahoma... not my idea of a good time. Which reminds me - JanetR, how are you and yours? Hope y'all didn't get hit.
Thank you all for the good words for Corey's grief. And yes, that is very much a word best never invented.
Regarding the reopening, not wearing masks and all the rest: I went on a ten-line diatribe and then erased it. Effectively it all boils down to, "Just because you have the right to do something doesn't make you right," or even better said:
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR

The grandchildren have just sent me a sweet little video thanking me for the brownies. They said they are "The best in the world. Even better!"
DH turned up at the deli just as a fresh delivery was being put out. We have fennel! Last time I cooked it, it was the most delicious thing ever, but I can't remember what I did exactly. I have yoghurt in the IP, but I think I can remove the liner for long enough to cook the fennel in the other liner and then put it back in. I can wrap it up to keep it warm.
Last two episodes of my Norwegian thriller tonight. I am currently on a 156 day Norwegian streak on Duolingo. For my Spanush I've been watching Utube videos about home decoration. Spanish people talk soooooo fast though!
Bananas - Glad you liked my son's efforts on Utube. I would never have thought he would have taken to doing all that. He has suffered very much from severe anxiety, so much so that he had to resign from a beloved and well paid job. He went through a very dark time. He is borderline autistic and very much an introvert. But he clearly loves it. A great relief to me, because he rarely used to get in touch and I never knew how he was doing. Now I can see him twice a week and he seems to be thriving! He has done a series of ration pack episodes and always looks very happy. I think the French one was the best food, but the German one had very good sausage!
Now off to do some rowing and box set catching up. Hooray!

My son now. The gun is not real. It's Airsoft, a bit like paintball, only tiny white pellets.
