A little something to make you smile. My granddaughter is 4 since she could eat it my Son in Law and her have been sharing a bowl of cereal on the mornings he doesn’t work. She refuses to have her own bowl in those days. This is my daughter’s status today.
”Micki and Ryan usually share a bowl of cereal in the mornings, but today she decided she wanted her own, because she didn't want him to get "nona-birus" 😂
This is her new hairstyle she was proud of the other day.

My big adventure today was a trip to the grocery store. The last time I was there was 25 days ago so I had a lot of shopping to do. I got there early enough that it wasn't crowded and found nearly everything on my list only having to call Jake twice to ask him about brand substitutions for things he wanted. They didn't have the frozen veggies I like best but I found another kind that will satisfy me for now. I wanted to buy zucchini seeds to plant but the rack of flower and veggie seeds was practically empty. I couldn't find the mouthwash we use so I went to the drug store on the way home and found it. I bought so much that it took two carts to get stuff out to the car and I let the woman who bagged the groceries help me. Now I am exhausted and happy about a job well done, also feeling safe that we have food and supplies for the next three to four weeks.
Annie in Delaware, I play solitaire (klondike or spider) on my computer occasionally. I have no games on my phone but I have a Kindle app with an e book that I can read when I have some time that I want to fill, also an audio book to listen to.

So far food is readily available. We like to shop sales when possible and look for good meats & veggies. I plan to plant green beans in the next week or so. 🥦🥕🥒🥬🍆1

Did Elle Glam Fitness Complete Cardio Workout DVD. I don’t think I’ll keep this one. Too dancey. I’m just not into an entire DVD that is nothing but dance. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Barry’s Boot Camp DVD.
SuziQ – I know Vince is always afraid that the cat will hit the “send” button after typing a full line of something like “zzzzzzz”. Last night I was playing mahongg on my tablet and Lexi came right up in front of me as if she were saying “leave that stupid game alone and give me attention”. Cats, they can be so funny
Kylia – my heart is breaking for you and your family. It’s interesting, when I was little I was a voracious reader. I think I read all the Nancy Drew books. But now I’m not a big reader at all. I do like getting most of my books on my tablet, tho
Finished weaving in the ends of the c2c that I made. Now I’m working on a mask. Getting the directions from uTube. I like that there’s someplace for a filter.
We sent PJ’s birthday present yesterday. It was $18. But these were things that I’d bought thinking we’d be going up there but now we’re not. I also ordered the car seat and having it shipped there.
Tracey – why isn’t the nursing home accepting packages? I can see they maybe not giving them to the person for a week, but not accepting them at all? I would think that a package would cheer them up. Why not send her something from Amazon? Why will they accept Amazon but not a personal package?
Julie – I find that if I have milk chocolate, I have a craving for more. But dark chocolate seems to fill me up
Went for a small walk yesterday. Today Vince promised we’d trim the trees
Lisa – are you in touch with Rori? Is anyone? How is she doing? Update: thanks for the update
Barbara – In a way, I hope there is a distance between people at a gym. I’ve always said that the machines were too close to each other. Thank you for your concern. My back is much better today. I suspect it might have been the weather.
Bananas – IP = Instant Pot. To me, another advantage to the IP is the fact that you can cook frozen meat in it.
Rita – I’m glad you posted those pics of weeds. We had the purple ones in our backyard and I thought they were so pretty. I figured they had to be a weed because I didn’t kill them…lol I'd love to know what they're called.
For those who go long times between grocery shopping (one person I thought of was Barbie) – what do you do about buying milk? I have to go to the store tomorrow because Vince is out of milk. If it weren’t for that, I wouldn’t be going
Sharon – which Mahjongg do you play? I play the game Real Mahjongg
Well, we trimmed the trees today. Called the recycling place and if I brought the papers I have (about 6 boxes full), I can take them there for recycling. I just may do that because by the time I can put them in the recycling bin (they only pick up once every 2 weeks), it’ll be months before they all are recycled. In the meantime, I’d like to use some of those boxes for the Salvation Army donations since they aren’t in real good condition and they are smaller (good for books and toys)
Margaret – I’m sorry to hear this about your niece
Talk about weird. The bridge they just put in came out while I was eating a hard carrot. Guess I need to cut it up rather than eating it whole. I’ll call the dentist tomorrow to see if they can put it back in.
Finished the mask. I have a feeling it'll be too warm for summertime but OK in wintertime.

Michelle- it doesn’t make sense to me either why they’ll accept mail or Amazon but not from our homes but that’s the way it is. I have a FaceTime scheduled for Friday evening. I haven’t sent from Amazon because the last couple things I’ve ordered took forever to get here

@Rebecca the chicken stock looks great. I am no good even with less sweet trail mix. If you wanted to keep some you could possibly keep in the freezer, possibly in individual containers(bags, or other containers).
@Amber i like the zigzag suggestion in the calorie calculator you posted.
@Katla thanks for explaining what an IP is.
@Sharon thats an english lanuage news site. in addition to articles they have the weekly video on confinement update.
@Heather i find the metaphor in the article you cited about not all being in the same boat but all being in vastly different types of boats on rough seas very apt.
@Michele not a big fan of milk chocolate. I find it doesn't 'hit the spot". Im actually enjoying this 100% chocolate. 10 or 20g usually does the trick.
I go to grocery store at least 1x a week to top up on fresh veggies and fruit. I don't drink milk.3 -
@Kate I love carrots. If you don't but like juice and have a juicer that uses them up fast (several carrots for a glass of juice). Carrot sticks as quick thing to nosh on. Carrots w tahini. thin slices (or curls use a potato peeler) and put in sandwich like salad (tahini carrot sandwich). I like the curls made with peels as they are prettier than grated in my book for salads. Roast carrots in oven: sweet.2

My Kindle almost gave up the ghost last night. I was downloading 'Olive Again' and it stuttered to a halt and then wouldn't do anything. It took me several goes to restart it, but eventually it played ball and I was able to read my book. It's the first fiction I've read for a month. I find myself reading non fiction more often these days.
I've been looking for up to date info on Brighton and Hove new infection rates. Surprisingly hard to come by, but, by delving around, it looks as if there haven't been any new recorded cases in the last day or so. That's just for hospitals, of course. Care homes I assume much higher. I can't get any info on the testing site they have set up at the football ground. That would be hugely helpful to know how many positives from those who present themselves as not feeling well.
We are Zooming the kids today, so will probably discuss with my son how to handle the "picnic" on Saturday. They, and we, have been isolating for 5 weeks, apart from essential shopping, but we will still over-distance and not share objects. They are bringing their own food etc. and we will, leave tables and chairs out in the sun and rain after they've gone. It will just be lovely to see them after so long.
If I knew the transmission rates locally (they should be testing the symptom free) it would help with these kinds of decisions. There will be more danger once things are opening up, like schools.
Anyway, something to look forward to.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Hello everyone.
I am sure everyone will be glad to hear this is the last day of my gratitude lists. I usually keep all of these in my head. Near the end of March I was feeling a little out of sorts and decided I should type these out as a hard copy reminder that no matter how bad I think things may be there is always something good.
At this very moment I am grateful for the following.- Awakening to a new day.
- Being employed by one of the better companies in the area and having a caring boss.
- Checking my bank account today and seeing my bonus was paid. It gives me a little bit of a cushion which was very much needed.
- My physical and mental health. It was something I took for granted when I was much younger and something I am grateful for each and every day.
- The peace and serenity of the morning.

"Get to do"s and "chose well"sChose well: Post Office, BiMart, Farmers’ Market, Grocery Outlet, Freddie’s
Bonus: 1 hr stroll with Barb in Botanic Garden and Azalea Park.
Get to do: recycling, mat work, firehouse mtg minutes, invest 10 mins cleaning Dining Rm, carry over 10 mins, Kitchen/Laundry, Living Rm, Guest Bth, finish weeding drive, continue weeding flower bed, mulch flowerbed, prep potato bed for snow peas, dig up snow pea bed for potatoes and greens, prep raised bed for carrots, parsley root, parsnips, radishes, transplant herbs, finish cleaning and start de-rusting Aunt Elsie’s stove, Freddie’s for complete series TDAP <$48, get Shingrix vaccine.
Reward: inventory seeds, plan garden, order replenishments.
Hit all the stores today, still no Charmin Ultra Soft, nor Isopropyl alcohol, and my favorite brand of greek yoghurt was not to be found at either Grocery Outlet nor Freddie’s. Whining about my faves not being available made me blush to remember Mama and Papa and the shortages and rationings they lived through during WWII (not to mention the lacks during the Depression.) I am so spoiled!!! Stocked up so well, I may not need to go back for 10 days at least.
Lisa glad to lend an ear. That’s what we’re “hear” for after all. AND, imHo time to flip the switch on the remainder of the year. Applying for grants is your job. Luci “AF” I had no idea! Oops, sorry for the offensive image.
Rita overjoyed about the table saw, kinda glad it was stupid kids not professional thieves. The yellow lupineish flower looks like what’s called gorse here but was called Scotch Broom when I was a kid. https://easywildflowers.files.wordpress.com/2015/02/106.jpg

not a clue about the others and YIKES a scorpion [shudder]
Kate if you don’t want sweet (Tzimmes, cookies, glazed) maybe a savoury pudding or soup or the Finnish casserole Porkkanalaatikko?

Tracey Mickie’s pic and “nona-birus”
Rebecca your broth looks yummy and rich.
SuziQ I’ve enjoyed your gratitude lists, they often remind me of my many blessings.
Boom! It’s 02:43 and BOOM there goes another shot. Always a little scary, either a neighbor is trying to scare away a cougar or bear… BOOM it goes again, OR a neighbor just got home from the bar and is blasting away just for the fun of it. Oops, nope that can’t be it, the bars are all closed for the duration, so it must be the critters.
BTW there’s nothing for turning off the snackies like biting down on a shard of walnut shell in the half piece of banana bread.

Thank you, Barbara--both for the comment on the painting and the reminder. Everything always goes back to the Serenity Prayer. Accepting the things I cannot change, changing the things I can. What's lacking when my emotions get involved is the wisdom to know the difference. Come to find out that's actually the key line.
Penny, dear heart, glad I could make you day! They are usually in my family's voice. We played with words, growing up, and we all still do, and there are times I desperately miss them. Especially when I say something deliberately that I think is funny and someone corrects me, having decided that because I have a Southern accent, I must be stupid. These days I just say, "Well bless your heart!" and I keep going.
SuziQ - Chalk me up for one who likes your gratitudes. Most of them remind me of my own, they bring comfort.
I am... washed clean (emotionally) this morning. Physically, I still need to take a shower, but will wait until after my exercise. Ready for the week to be over and done, but it's not cooperating.
Re: the food supply thing, buying ahead for meat would be something we do anyway, but it's comforting to know we have at least two months of main dish components in the freezer, so all that's necessary to buy is fresh items like eggs and fruit, and until my husband's garden comes up, vegetables.
He's planted out potatoes, tomatoes, peas, beans, cilantro and a few others. We can't do any broad leaf here, as the cabbage bugs are so bad. They turned our brussel sprouts into lace last year, they munched on the leaves so much. He's also planted a small orchard with cherries, apples, pears, peaches, fig and plum trees, but it will be a few years yet before those bear.
When we lived on the ranch and had lots of freezer space, we would buy a quarter of beef cut up and/or made into hamburger, packed in meal-sized portions at our request, and have enough in the freezer to last for a year or more. Eventually we'll do that here, once we buy a full-size freezer. Using the vacuum bag unit means that, when we do buy enough to freeze, we can be assured it will still be good a year from now.
Hopefully the interruptions to the food supply (if they even happen) will be short-lived, and not as crazy as the whole thing got with toilet tissue! However, I was about a week out in front of that one, so paid attention to my instincts. Doesn't hurt to have a few things back, and makes me feel less apprehensive.
Off to my rowing.
Love y'all, and ever grateful that you're here,

Ladies
Thank you for the support and insights. After a stop at work this morning, my husband and I are heading to hospice. I firmly believe Pat is waiting to "see" her "baby" boy before passing. His sister was there all day yesterday. Sharon I so wanted a cigarette and a drink yesterday. No I had neither. Instead my oldest daughter came up to spend time with us. Yes, I know.....her sister already griping about stay at home. Oldest has been quarantined for 46 days. I dont think we will get anything from her, but she took the risk from us as we are still working and at hospice. The visit was good for all though.
I use carrots in tomato sauces ground or chopped. It helps with acidity.
SuziQ I love your gratitude lists!
Need to get ready to face this day.

Happy Thursday Ladies!
Lisa - thank you for the Rori update. Rori, if you are reading this...(((( HUGS )))). What a PITA.
SuziQ - please, if you wish, continue your gratitude list. Because as I read it, I think about my own. Love all the plants in your patio . What a special place!
Kylia - ((( HUGS )))) How old is your MIL?
Tracie - your granddaughter is a charmer.
Barbie - sounds like a successful shopping trip. I noticed the last time I was in Walmart, the shelves still were about half empty, but there generally was something I could use even if it wasn't my usual brand. I wonder if that will be the norm for a while.
Barbara - do your dogs get upset with the "booms"? Does Joe sleep through them? Sorry about the walnut shell! I tend to get those buggers stuck between my teeth.
Hey, it's end of the month. Nothing new to report on the weight thing other than I had a real long talk with myself and went back on IF a few days ago, aiming for 16 hr fasts each day. So far it's been pretty easy.
Dog-time, so gotta get going. Have a great day. This too shall pass.

Penny@theNorthPole: You put me to shame with that lovely bread. I have been meaning to make a sourdough starter for ages. Maybe now is the time. We went to a concert in Tromso Catedral. It was wonderful. I have some wonderful footage of sunset over the town. We had two days in Tromso on our first Norway cruise, so had lots of time to explore the town.
Heather: You will love Alesund. The architecture is superb.

Coffee or tea drinkers ... what's your preference?
Coffee = 1A ... or even darker than 1A.
Tea = 1A ... although my teas are usually decaf, herbal varieties so they go a golden colour.
Machka in Oz
Coffee 2D: I was raised in coffee made with milk. Choose not to break the habit completely.
Karen in VA: I 100%agree with your view on masks. I also believe we should do our utmost, not just what we are forced to do. We went into voluntary lockdown 10 days before it was made mandatory. It’s a no brainier in my eyes.3 -
Lisa - My DH has just gone out to buy tea bags as we've heard that the Indian supply chain is under strain. Pickers etc. We won't hoard, but tea is essential to my life. I think I could give up everything except tea. The only thing that has ever remotely come close is coca tea in Peru.
Our Zoom went on for 75 minutes of bouncing, crazy kids, one after the other. Phew! I think they enjoyed themselves. I was hungry and knackered by the end.
Duck legs and roasted cauliflower tonight. I always put a few small potatoes around the legs for DH. Chipotle paste on the duck legs. Stewed apples and blackcurrant for dessert.
It's going to pour with rain so it's rowing for me this afternoon. I did some writing this morning. I was writing about my period pains, which were HORRIFIC when I was young. It really was just like having a baby every month. I would vomit and be bathed in a cold sweat. Couldn't stand up. Anyone else like that?

Lisa $48,000 is a bit steep for my budget. Reminds me of the time I signed up for $2 a lap for my granddaughter's swim team season opener fundraiser. The year before she swam 20 laps, so I thought $40-50 would be a generous donation. She swam 100 laps…
Agree w/Penny about your colloquialisms. So fun!
When my mother was alive, she had two sayings that helped her (and now me) with getting things in perspective & with letting go.
One was, "Do everything reasonable to get the outcome you want. Then let go of the outcome. You've done what you can do."
The other involved a little story, but the saying was, "No children will die." I've told the story before, but if anyone wants me to post it here, I will.
Your painting is truly wonderful. I love the colors.

Ginny Pickled carrots & jalapeños! Now that's what I'm talkin' about!
About your mom - I am glad she had a good end. I recently posted that I am updating my Five Wishes document to address what I would like to have happen if, for any reason, I have to die alone without family nearby. My son said he would gather voice recordings, videos, pictures, etc. from all of the grandchildren for me & format them in a way that would be easy for overworked health care workers to display for me. So many are dying alone. Sweden…
I think your chore day was well spent catching up with your young friend. Something to cherish.
>>>
Sue Does buttercup spread by seed? Would Preen work, or is your place too big for that to be practical?
I love environmentally sound pest control practices like fly wasps. I learned about a bunch of them in Master Gardener class several years back, and it was so exciting to realize pesticides are not always necessary.
>>>
Katla Yes there is plenty of food. The problem isn't the amount of food, it's the disruption that occurs in the supply chain when people panic buy. If demand is not predictable due to panic buying, then the supply side can't keep up with the demand, the shelves are temporarily empty, and more panic ensues due to the empty shelves. It's possible the meat-packing crisis will affect the meat supply. If that happens, I'm fine being a pescatarian or a vegetarian for the time being or forever. I like all kinds of foods.
>>>
Michele That's weird about your bridge coming out. Hope you get it fixed pronto.
>>>
Heather So glad your Kindle rekindled.
>>>
Penny and Kim I, too, was inordinately amused at the image of the young upstarts disrupting the ZOOM meeting with a virtual picket. How innovative and clever they were!
>>>
Suzi I like your gratitude lists. I'm planning to post some Savors and Gratitudes at the end of my post today.
>>>
Barbara Agreed about the walnut shell. Egg shell in scrambled eggs is no fun either.
>>>
Kylia I am so glad your husband will be able to see his mother before she dies. Glad for her and for him. Thinking of all of you as you go through this difficult time. I'm glad you have each other to lean on. (((Hugs)))

Savors from yesterday: Taste of a Strawberry Daiquiri made with fresh strawberries and limes.
Smell of freshly cut grass as I mowed the lawn.
Sight and Sound the Blue Heron on our pond.
Grateful for: Videos and pictures of my grandkids sent by their parents
My new Telemedicine job, & for being able to schedule a few more shifts for May.
Rain, which is softening the ground so I can plant, weed, and seed more easily.
My John Deere lawn tractor, still running like a charm after many, many years.
My partner who thinks I'm a good cook.
My Yorkies Mabel and Molly who are so silly.
