Lisa - Hugs from one unmanageable person to another. <3 Best kind of person to be. :D

Karen - <3 Yes, the IP. Yes the tin of confit etc. The lid is actually a wooden bread board and belonged to my DH long before he met me. His previous partner's, I guess.
I already had the tin of confit and ordered another for my son's birthday along with some pistachio oil. Then he said he wanted a heart rate monitor, so I'm keeping the foodie goodies for us. :D
You can visit my kitchen any time. :p This evening we had a GREAT BIG SINGSONG to the tunes that our teacher had emailed to us. Wonderful! When I replied to Machka's music question I forgot to say how much I enjoy musicals. I was brought up with my mother singing all the shows she was in and learnt so many of them. Never got a chance to sing them before. I am a frustrated performer. What amazes me is how much DH enjoys it too.

    Still sending Rori good vibrations.

    Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx

My horse stable sent me a survey asking what they would have to do to reopen safely. It's a tough question. We don't breathe on each other a lot. We only get close for mount and dismount. Maybe each person could bring their own reins because they are hard to sanitize and are in my hands the whole time. Maybe it will be impossible to sanitize the horses and it's time for me to give it up. It's so hard to judge how much threat there is.

    Hugs to (((Lisa)))

(((Rori)))... nothing is harder and more exhausting than caregiving. Wishing you some days without as much stress.

Allie, Kim said it best... I think you should hang out your shingle.

Lisa, love your paintings and love your gutsy problem solving about giving notice at work.

Tonya UK: I am laughing and DH smiled, too. Thanks for the “Free Hammock” cartoon. :flowerforyou:

Rita: Glad to hear that you’re feeling bit better. Hoping the headache goes away soon. :star:

(((Lisa))) Your girl scout council has made an earth-shaking mistake. You are the best person they had, or could ever find, for help and support. You are brilliant and steadfast.

Annie: If your horse stable has an arena, it is surely big enough for more than one person riding at a time while staying at least 5 feet apart. I’m guessing it is blind fear that caused the choice to close the arena because of the Covid worries. Gloves and a mask are in use in zillions of situations. Seems like they’d get the job done at the stable, too. I hope things settle down. :ohwell:

(((Rori))): You are always in my thoughts. :flowerforyou:  :flowerforyou:

Our old barbecue died and we took possession of the new one today. It is a Weber. It is replacing the Commercial that we enjoyed for seven years. I hope the Weber lasts even longer. We’re planning to take the old bbq to the recycle center. I hope it can be melted down and turned into useful items.

    Hi Gals,

Katla - I have had my weber for 25 years! And it looks great, my trick is I have a weber cover and after it has cooled I cover it every time.

Allie – how good that your brother apologized. He realized what he was feeling at the time and acknowledged it, but he also knew you were right

You know, I’m trying to keep myself busy but it seems to be oh so hard not to snack on junk food.

Did a bit more of the border. Vince just may be getting it – you don’t have to do it all in one day. Do a little bit every day and it’ll get done.

The tree skirt I made for us came out larger than the one I’d made previously. Why I wonder? The gal at the yarn store said that the yarn I used is almost like sportweight. Some people use it in place of the sportweight. Fortunately, I skipped (don’t know if this was intentional or not) about ½ of it. At least it’s not hanging over the table. So we’ll probably use it this year and if it’s too big the only other thing I can think to do is to make another one but this time using a smaller crochet hook.

Starting on a scarf for Adra because she’s helped me so much. And also because I need to have something to keep my mind busy.

Vince just said that tomorrow there is a 50% chance of rain. We did go to Lows Hardware to get more of the edging. Not as much as we got last time (last time we got 20 pieces, this time only 6). Of course, the weather predicated rain yesterday and today and it didn’t materialize, so who knows? My neighbor (the one whose hubby was in Afghanistan) is going away next week and she’s asked me to water my plants. From all she did in FL that’s the least I can do. She mentioned paying me, I think I’ll just tell her not to bother but to make a donation to the soup kitchen. Almost no one was wearing a mask at Lowes, even the people working there.

Rori - hugs to you. What a stressful time you have had.

I can’t remember who mentioned lilacs, I just love them! They are my favourite flower. I haven’t had any in the house since I married in 1987. My husband is severely allergic to them.

Beth - hope your Father is doing well.

Allie - my Mother did not have it in her to care for sick loved ones. She just didn’t make a good nurse. I had a friend that helped pick up some care with my Dad to help my Mom. It’s hard to know how someone will react in these situations I don’t think it’s something everyone can do as gracefully and competently as you. You may be making all the difference in how well the family is cooing.
I think I mentioned to you that my Mother in Law has been doing this type of relief work for the last decade or more to help with the household finances. She is 74 and is pining for a new person to care for. Hers is all word of mouth.

Yesterday my wonderful husband, youngest daughter and her husband worked their tails off and almost finished my deck. There is a top rail cap and hand rails to be made yet but hubby will do that over the next few days. Today we were going to put the furniture and such on it, but it rained most of the day.

I’ll post pics in the next post.

Barbie: Doing the "same old" great things for health and wellbeing is a brilliant lifestyle. You provide a wonderful role model for us all. No preaching, just doing the healthy things that lead to good health and a good life. You set an excellent example. :star::star::star:

Kim: Thanks for the tip on the Weber cover.

Pip: Puppies are fun and hard work. Luckily they grow up. Old dogs are the very best companions.

Beth: I’m happy your dad is okay after his fall. I can understand the embarrassment. Like the rest of us, an elder man or woman likes to feel competent and strong. Falling can be seen as weakness & the person feels embarrassed. :embarassed:

It has been a good day. We did some power washing on the upper deck and started on the lower one. We’ll work on it again tomorrow if the weather is cooperative. We also got delivery of our new BBQ. I plan to follow Kim’s advice on getting the Weber cover.

Kim, thank you! You talking about the bbq cover reminded me to check if our bbq was covered! We used it for dinner and we often forget to put the cover back on. There isn't supposed to be any rain tonite, but..... so thanks again!
Allie, I am glad that your brother came to his senses! I have to add my vote for you hanging out your shingle for respite care!
Lisa, my sincerest hopes and wishes that you have heard something (anything!) from the council by now! Too bad your boss is such a micromanager, they are going to miss you terribly. Oh well, their loss, someone else's gain-even if that someone is "just" Corey! How wonderful that you two found each other, truly a perfect match!
Beth, ooooooh, that chicken in your son's garbage is going to be ugly..... :#
Trying to re-commit to all this eating properly thing. Did not bad today, went for a bike ride this morning and then when planning dinner realized that I would run out of calories before I ran out of dinner, so talked hubby into a walk after dinner. I still went over calories, but went over by 324 less than if I hadn't gone for the walk! It's a step in the right direction! I heard a guy on the tv talking the other day about the "quarantine 10"-gaining 10 lbs during the quarantine and then saw where someone else was talking about the "q-15"!! Well, I guess I can consider myself lucky as I only gained about 4 lbs. That, however, is enough! If I want to keep the cute stuff in my closet, I need to buckle down and get on with it. For those who don't remember, or didn't know at all, I said that if it didn't fit by next January I was getting rid of it. This included all the stuff in my closet and there is some stuff in there that I really like so.... I also brushed my teeth before we left for our walk, so there was no desire to eat when we got back home. I'm feeling a bit peckish now, but it's bedtime and besides, the teeth have been flossed and brushed, so no more eating for me!
Got a survey from the Y today asking different questions about my membership and what I wanted/needed to see to get me back in there once they open up. My only thing is more distance between the cardio equipment. I may have to start going at different times, possibly earlier than I have been, but no point in me trying to figure it out now, they are still figuring out what they will do to get the place open and keep everyone safe.
Started my sourdough starter yesterday, it tried to crawl out of the bowl I had it in! I think I might have to buy a bigger container! I have a large metal bowl, but the recipe specifically says not to use metal so..... I did put it in a larger bowl this morning and from today on it will be refrigerated, so hopefully that will help keep it somewhat under control. I was worried about the yeast as I used bread machine yeast (all I had) and it didn't "bloom" like regular yeast does, but given the amount it rose, I think my fears were unfounded! lol Looking forward to next week when I can make bread out of it! Well, as I said before, it is bedtime, so off I go.
Hugs for those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

Tracey - Love your deck. I want one! Your family look knackered, but happy they have got a good job done. Excellent! :D

Kim, I just pull up the double layer of cheesecloth twist it and give it a good squeeze. Then I try to make the top as flat as possible and weigh it down for an hour or two as in my pic. I cut that block in two and will use one on Friday and froze one. It's more crumbly than shop bought so you have to be a bit careful if you fry it.

"Get to do"s and "chose well"s
Chose well: line dance in the park, returned library book, grant submitted, D&B and SAM.GOV progress.
Bonus: mixed organic fertilizer, prepped two big pots for cherry tomato and Stinky, shifted/reallocated hoses, started artichokes and more arugula.
Get to do: Post Office, Bank, Mini Pet Mart, meeting with board pres; invest 20 mins cleaning Guest Bth, carry over 30 mins decluttering and cleaning Office, 10 mins cleaning Kitchen/laundry, Bedrooms, Dining Rm, Living Rm, Master Bth;W&M report for council meeting Thurs; mat work, BB&B, practice new dances (Real Deal, Get it Right, Quarter after one, Half Past Tipsy, Senorita, Dance Monkey; transplant oregano, parsley, pineapple, sweet marjoram, rose geranium, Stinky, cherry tomato; make garlic almonds for Barb and Dan; prep raised bed for carrots, parsley root, parsnips, radishes; finish weeding drive, continue weeding flower bed, mulch flowerbed; call stove repair guy to adjust kitchen flame and assess Aunt Elsie’s Stove to determine if finish cleaning and start de-rusting feasible; Freddie’s for complete series TDAP <$48, get Shingrix vaccine.
Reward: inventory seeds, plan garden, order replenishments, next week final? follow up for Joe’s labs, call for his Dr. appointment.

Yesterday was a desk-productive day, got a CARES reimbursement request submitted for the fire district. Tying myself to the laptop meant no time outside or moving, so stepped in place while watching a two part Murder She Wrote re-run to make minimum steps. The only exciting activity was when a little tiny crazy squirrel dashed into the house, trapped itself in the guest bath. Joe scooped it up into a bucket and released it outside… when it promptly doubled back into the house and led us on a merry chase. It finally disappeared, last seen in the bedroom. Joe baited the humane trap with peanut butter but no takers by morning so we figure it got past us and back outside. The dogs were interested but not hungry ;).

This morning got auto reply from grantor that DUNS number and SAM registration needed. Spent an hour with Dun and Bradstreet trying to update our info (name, CEO, other contacts). Helpful chat gal submitted requested details but advised it will be 7-10 business days before correction shows in their system. Tackled the SAM registration but got blocked again when our legal corporate name didn’t match the outdated one on D & B. SAM system won’t let me work on the other info until the DUNS info matches. Will check D&B daily next week. So deeply respect Lisa’s ability to keep all those balls in the air with grace and humor. Not me. :rage: Pried myself off the laptop to dink around in the garden and line dance with the gals at the park.

Lisa after reading “roasting” and “basting” I saw “very much tomato weather” What you said about “Funny how I never seem to know how stressed I am until the stress lifts” goes for me with sadness, in spades. “evil unfoiled laughter” Bwah ha haaa! “People simply don't listen, they just wait until you're done talking so they can start.” Oh yeah. Really hope they set you free by now. Only downside I can see to being unmanageable is when you work for yourself…
Allie so sorry your brother took out his pain and grief on you. Your piece needed to be spoken. Courragia. Glad he later apologized and he and his wife will take the next steps. Sweet of you to understand Jean’s need to get away, but yes please do limit your overnight/weekends to avoid burnout.
Lanette :astonished: Billy Mumy and the cornfield Twilight Zone episode [shudder] wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy, even a binge mode flipper :noway:
Michele  your idea of attending service by listening on car radios. Kinda like the drive in movie that opened up in the next county. Would love to see drive-ins make a comeback: silver lining ;) Think substituting baking chocolate for semisweet chocolate chips in a fudge recipe would need more sugar, and perhaps some fat? You didn’t want to be tempted anyway, right? What the heck is a tapestry threader? If the too-big tree skirt is wool, could you wash it in hot water to shrink it?
Margaret gorgeous blossoming pics, can almost smell the lilacs from here. Jealous you have lilies of the valley. Never lived where they grew.
Tonya  the Randie and the grands pics.
Katla I went through the self-check at Freddie’s, but I’ve seen folk who go through cashier’s line bag their own. Grocery Outlet has a sign saying to leave your bags in the car, they won’t charge you for theirs. Joe even got a plastic bag there last week! Seems to me like the pandemic is being used as an excuse to sabotage many green initiatives, bottle redemption kiosks closed, reusable bags verboten, and now plastic film bags make a return…:grimace: What you said about feeling lucky, grateful for the internet and counting all the 50+ women as dear and valued friends. Also about the transporter, so much more reliable than the Tardis…
Amber LOADED guns at 9 yr old junior police academy? You-know-what-for-brains! That group was too large for live ammo. When I was nine, my parent’s friend taught his daughter and me to shoot 22 rifles at targets, but that was carefully controlled and all one-on-one.
Evelyn thanks for the info that the cloth like reusable bags are wash-and-dry-able. I’ve been only using the slick ones (like from Trader Joe’s) that I can wipe down afterwards.
Rita please take it easy. Dizzy spells are so scary. Relieved to learn you know what causes it. Hope all your landings are soft. Janetr good to see your smiling face!
Kim thanks for the ricotta recipe. How many oz of ricotta does it make? What do you do with the whey?
Heather you almost make paneer sound good ;)
Pip the Memorial Day pooch pics tugged my heart.
SuziQ are those Brussels sprouts in the bowl above the wrapped shrimp kabobs? What is the creamy looking dressing?
Rori thank you so much for stopping in, you’ve been much on my mind and heart. Big whoosh of love, strength, and peace to you. Praying the coming days are calmer and for your sister’s successful surgery and treatment.
Machka masks and social distancing seem to be practiced by perhaps half the people, the other half seem to resent the government “telling them what to do” and limiting their “freedoms”. IMHO masks and social distancing will become the new normal as more people have someone they love die. Sorry for the downer but think that’s what it will take. On the upside Brava for being almost done with your two courses this semester. “one and final course” does that mean you’ll have won your Master’s? Will you take a break before plunging into further achievements?
Beth four paramedics? So grateful your father didn’t break any bones. Imagine male stubbornness doesn’t improve with age… Hope your son has a full haz mat suit to go into his apartment. Surprised the neighbors haven’t called in the fumigators.
Sue in WA safe travels. Hope the good memories carry you through.
Julie that was a working marathon. So glad your corrector and you are “clicking.” Now it’s time to snooze!
Barbie our teacher uses an ipad and a blue tooth speaker. Today my spot was next to the speaker and it was TOO loud ;) Dealer will pickup and deliver your car for recall work! Wow! Keep telling us all the (same) wonderful things you do every day. You are our gratitude, healthy mind/body/lifestyle model.
Karen in VA so where is the Liliana-Jump-Up vid?
Annie hope someone more knowledgeable than I can support my instinct that the benefits of riding outweigh the infection risks. Hate to see you give it up.
Betsy good to see you post, been missin’ you.
Tracey, I confess it! I have deck ENVY! Not to mention worked-their-tails-off husband, daughter and son in law envy
Viv that Leah looks so mischievous!

Our county is now up to 6 confirmed cases, expecting a surge as town was full of holiday visitors. The county to our south has 40 cases. Many in our county work at the state prison in the next county, and many in that county shop and by gas in our town. I’m still limiting shopping trips, masking when going inside, wiping down touched surfaces and purchases.

Line Dance class resumes at the Grange next Tuesday! With a max of 16 regular attendees, we’ll easily have room for 6 ft apart. My knees, ankles and hips will rejoice to dance on good hardwood floor instead of concrete.

    Lighter, lovelies!

Down here, social distancing might become a new normal, but unless there's a flare up of cases, masks won't. We've had no new cases in 12 days here in Tasmania ... so far so good. And maybe 1% of the population here is wearing masks. On today's outing, I think I noticed one person who had a scarf around her face. However, most people were doing some measure of social distancing.

But I was thinking of longer-term, more wide-spread new normal conditions like going on online, working from home, building bicycle paths, etc. :) The good stuff!! :)

If all goes well, I will complete my Master's toward the end of October, and graduate in December (the ceremonies take place a couple months after completing the courses). :)

When I finish toward the end of October, there will be great rejoicing and celebration ... and a huge sigh of relief.

And there will not be "plunging into further achievements".

I'm tired. Very tired. I'm tired of working all day and then doing homework all evening. I would like the luxury of having a few evenings each week where I can do what I want to do. I would like the luxury of having weekends to myself. I would like to have the option of going to bed before midnight sometimes ... of picking up a novel and reading all evening ... of getting into my photography again.

Plus, I have other things that are becoming rather urgent which need my attention ... personal paperwork, filing, and exercise!! It would be wonderful to be able spend 3 or 4 hours exercising a few times a week!!

I may, perhaps, dabble in a few short courses that don't have homework or deadlines in areas such as SQL (really need to get my skills from "manageable" to "proficient"), French, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Photography. :) But I don't imagine I'll start any of that until winter 2021 (June 2021) ... if then.

I know I've mentioned the possibility of a PhD, but ...

    1) I don't want to take my PhD in Tasmania. IF I'm going to go for a PhD, I'd rather take it in Canada or at least on the mainland. That won't happen for a while.

    2) It's a huge commitment ... time and money. I've looked into it and I've heard I'm looking at somewhere in the neighbourhood of 3 intense years and $300,000 during which time I would have to devote all my attention to the PhD. In other words, I couldn't do it part-time like I did with this Master's degree. In other words, I couldn't work and earn money which is a bit problematic ... especially since I don't have $300,000 lying around. So unless I suddenly win the lottery ...

So ... I'm actually anxiously counting down the days to a little bit of extra freedom! :)

First, there's 15 days until I'm finished this semester and I've got a whole month off university. I have not had a whole month off university in a year ... I've just had a few days here and there between courses. Admittedly I will still have to work some of that month, but I'll have my evenings ... and no university deadlines!!

Second, it's less than 5 months until I am done university. 4 months, 3 weeks. 144 days!! I can hardly wait!!

meat source is chicken, very rarely do I eat red meat unless it is in the form of a burger..lol Hopefully enjoy the steak tonight.

    Love Tonya UK xo

Hope I am not posting pics I have already posted...lol

Tonya, my dear, thank you for that. She's not an idiot, but what I have realized through this episode is that this is how she has been trained to manage people, both through overt training and by example. She's been with the organization for eight years, and she's absorbed this into her worldview. Must. Fit. In. Box.

In the spoiler - my opinion on bureaucracies. Boring to most. Skip it if you like.
For example: I mentioned that they didn't need to put me on a PIP, that she could have sat down with me and worked with me, perhaps saying that, since the pandemic has wrecked grantwriting for the moment, let's modify your goals and get some things put together for next year.

When I said that, my supervisor was genuinely aghast, saying that would leave the company wide open for lawsuits. Huh? But that's what she's been told and any form of objective viewpoint, for her, is long gone. Much like dealing with the conspiracy theorist mindset, she BELIEVES, and there is literally nothing I could have said or done that would have stirred that.

I don't blame her. As frustrating and distressing as it's been, now that I've been able to step back and gain some perspective, I don't even blame those who trained her. Every single time an organization reaches a critical point in its growth, it shifts from striving to fulfill its mission to striving to perpetuate itself as an organization. This requires rules, policies and regulations that are meant to protect the organization at all costs. And those costs are, in the end, human costs.

I'll be back later most likely - but for now, it's time to go wash off the sweat from the elliptical and the dried mud from spending an hour scrubbing around in the dirt planting a couple hibiscus. Glorious fun, but now I'm a grub.

    Cheers!

Lisa > I guess you can look at it like that :) It must be so frustrating however to have to deal with her! I don't think I would have the patience that's for sure! I don't like to fit into the box personally!

Enjoy the rest of your day xoxo
