I put on my excess weight in February when we had the wettest month ever. :o I started lock down with some extra poundage. Managed to lose some in the early stages of the lockdown , which really pleased me. Then I slackened a bit on the eating and put it back on. Oooops. I girded my loins by being more careful and lost the same pounds again, so I'm a lot happier, but I still need to keep going. My exercise regime hasn't changed, but I have to be very careful not to eat into my bonus calories. Just breaking even doesn't work for me nowadays. I have to leave a good margin. The penalty of age.

    Lisa Wonderful office space. :)

Loving all the baby/children photos. Precious Bea asleep on the floor…

Thinking it's about time for our quarterly Joaquin & Miguel fix…

Zooming with my Nebraska friends today. Can't wait!

Ordered caladiums online. They were here in 2 days, huge bulbs, and they sent 3 extra! Super impressed. Caladiums Direct, if anyone is interested. They also sell elephant ears. Now if I could just find a company that's as good for cannas.

11-year-old swimmer granddaughter had an intramural meet early last evening while it was still light. It was the best swim meet I've been to! Mainly because of pandemic distancing. No crowded muggy poolside Cluster. We were allowed to poolside with masks on when our swimmer was competing, otherwise we had to stay in the parking lot. It was a tailgate party! I got to see my son, daughter-in-law, granddaughter, and my ex-husband. It was easy to maintain distance and very calming to see everyone doing so well. I walked between events once the catching up was done and the conversation changed to less engaging topics, on a trail through the woods to the local high school and around. My granddaughter performed well, although she was quite unhappy with her butterfly form when she looked at a recording. :)

It seems covid-weight is a real issue around the world. I was watching one of the morning programs and they have a "Covid 15 Weight Loss Plan". 15 pounds seems to be the average weight gain. Like many here I have been slipping in my diet. I am finding it is mostly due to lack of measuring. So it is once again time for me to put the measuring cups, spoons, etc. in plain view as a constant reminder to measure!

    SuziQ - SFL

I've heard that ... Quarantine 15, Covid Stone, things like that.

But I made a point of exercising as much or more than I did prior to the shutdown. We also just kept eating essentially the same things we were before. We didn't stock up on snacks or anything like that ... haven't touched a potato chip since ... ummm ... maybe Christmas??

Plus we got Rhody who gets me up out of my seat, walking around and playing with him. I should wear a pedometer when I'm walking up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down .............. the hallway playing "catch" with him!

So I haven't put on weight in shutdown. My weight bobs around a little so some days it is up a kg or so, but then a couple days later it's back down again.

However, I'd like to drop some and that is a bit more challenging.

:)Pip, good news about Kirby and about all the plans for your move and retirement. I hope you enjoy your new retired life as much as we have enjoyed ours.

:)Viv, I frequently face the same dilemma about whether to take the pet to the vet or wait to see how it goes.

:)Lisa, great office space. How therapeutic to clean out your travel bag.

:) I go to a lot of Zoom meetings where I am not much more than a face in the crowd, so I use my phone and turn off the video. I can ride my exercise bike or do chores or walk the dogs. Yesterday it was my turn to lead a meeting so I used Jake's tablet (my computer has neither a camera nor a microphone). I had forgotten how tiring it is to be on camera for an hour. It was fun seeing the faces of the other participants but I'm glad I don't have to do that often.

:) Jake got up early and took the dogs for the before breakfast walk and I had the luxury of lying in bed for an extra 30 minutes. I wouldn't want to do that all the time, but today it was fun.

I haven’t changed my eating habits since lockdown, and have been having just normal daily fluctuations for the most part. I’m just happy that I’m maintaining.

I think most of us would like to drop some weight. I know I would. I have crept up a couple of lbs this last week or so since I started upping my strength and stamina training. But hopefully it will go when I get into my stride.

Heather: I have probably been less strict with bonus calories occasionally, too. But like yourself, I can’t afford to be lenient for long.

Heather: Your grandchildren in the water look wonderful and happy. What a great day! I assume the man with them is your son/their dad. :flowerfroyou:

Rebecca: I love your photos of Athena and her daddy.

Allie: I’ve had fits with the community at MFP, too. I’m delighted I got in today. :star:

Pip: Glad to hear that Kirby is negative. YAY!!!

Terri: I am delighted that there were no problems with air quality. :star:

Machka: Good news that your DH’s procedure went well. One enormous stress in the rear view. Yay!!!

Lanette: Thanks for your good wishes. Covid test later today & I can’t wait to get it over with. :flowerforyou:

Barbara: I haven’t measured our deck. The section that faces the river is twenty feet or more. The deck turns a corner and meets the doorway into the house and that is a similar length. Maybe I can talk DH in to helping me measure it after our trip to Covid Test land. :star:

Amber: We’ve faced raccoon troubles in the past. They are repelled by moth balls. Unfortunately, so are we. Using the mothballs to keep them away is worth it. :ohwell:

SuziQ: The new owners of MFP are determined to make us pay for the service. I put up with the advertising but I wish they were less obnoxious about things. :grumble:

In the past couple of days, the phone worked but the computer didn’t. Last evening the computer was doing fine. So far this morning is okay, too. Yesterday I had a scheduled phone call regarding covid testing that my phone didn’t respond to. It took some time to find the issue and reboot my phone. I had loads of calls from the medical team because they couldn’t reach my phone. What a stress festival. :ohwell: Today I have my covid test done in Portland. If I pass, the surgery will be on. If not? No idea. I will be astonished if I test positive. We have been very careful.

Did some HIIT today. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Yogini Workout.

The gym takes your temp. before you can workout but they had something that I’ve never seen. I’ve always seen those things that you run across your forehead to find out your temp. Well, they have this thing where you put your wrist up to a light and it registers your temp.

It did feel good to get back to the gym. I do have to say that it was nice being able to get a parking space so close to the door and it was nice not that many people were there. There usually aren’t a lot in the morning, but today there were even fewer. I know that isn’t good for the gym, but I liked it. I honestly believe that gyms should be allowed to reopen. I suspect part of this rioting is the fact that people are letting off some steam and this is a good way. If gyms were open, then maybe people would let off steam that way. The only thing I forgot was that I took my towel out when this whole pandemic thing started. Fortunately, I had a towel in my car. I usually keep one even in summer because there have been times when it’s rained and some water from the umbrella has gotten on the seat or the rain came in the door while I had it opened so I could get in the car.

Pip – I’m so happy for Kirby and you

    69hj4z7ymijx.jpg
    – Remember you told me this one tool was a knife sharpener? Well, how would I know if it still sharpens? I have another knife sharpener and I used that. It “felt” different and made a different sound when I used it. The knife got sharp. Not sure about the other one. How would I know?

Amber – my cherry pitter has these small metal spokes that come down on the cherry and push the pit out. I can pit 8 cherries at a time

Viv UK – that’s one thing I’m not crazy about with DVD’s. All the people in them it seems are 30, 40, even 50. So I just go slower/lower impact. I’m not 30 any more!!! So sorry about Logan

Vince wants to cut the grass after the soup kitchen. It’s supposed to be hot. Hopefully, afterwards I’ll rinse off and then go in the pool.

SuziQ – Vince always complains that there are so many upgrades needed for apps because the app isn’t tested before it’s released. It’s released and then when someone has a problem they put out an update. I love FL, but hate the humidity. As soon as we open the car door when we get down there we say “welcome to FL” I’ve heard of the quarantine 15, too, but I have to admit that I’ve pretty muchly maintained my weight. Maybe it was because I continued to exercise, maybe it was because I continued to measure, I don’t know.

Lisa – silly as this may sound, one way I keep track of the days is I say to myself “what exercise was I going to do Friday, I did HIIT so it must be Friday”. Also, I have my big outing for the week – the soup kitchen. Great work space

Off to the post office, the ATM, then the soup kitchen.

Machka - Happy to read that Hubby's surgery went well. Hope he has a speedy recovery.

Heather - What a lovely time you had on the beach with the family. I'm happy for you.

Suzi - Our deck isn't attached so it wont be affected by the levelling. It just may be harder for them to get in under it. I had problems all afternoon yesterday getting onto MFP on my phone and laptop. I agree, I wouldn't pay for this with the bugs in it. I have certainly joined the average person and gained 15 during Covid. I was 185 in February, starting to work my way back down, but it's been hard to get disciplined to do it.

Pip - Glad that Kirby's test was negative.

Lanette - I like the book listing quiz. I sent it to my daughter who is a more avid reader than I.

Karen in VA - How wonderful that you got to see your granddaughter swim.

Michele - we have temperature "guns" here at work, it can be 1-5 cm's away and can be taken on the wrist or the forehead. It's quite handy for the number of people we have to monitor each shift change.
My Dad used to sharpen knives all the time, his test to see if it had worked was he would hold a piece of paper up in the air and cut at it. If it cut it passed his test, if it just moved the paper he would sharpen longer. He used the one that you have pictured with the red handle.

I should receive my Covid test result today, others that had theirs the same day as me got their call yesterday. I have to go into the city today to go to the bank for work. The local branch that we use for the manor is closed due to a sewage backup. I will leave work early today to go do that.

Went for my run. Much cooler, breezier and some sea mist coming in. Lovely! Still some people on the beach, but much better.
The running is the thing that keeps my weight down. I do my morning exercise session and then my bonus calories are after lunch. The running is the best exercise for weight loss, even if the others are officially the same burn. My morning session is the same every day, 600 calories. I don't log my bonus ones, but I mentally tick 350 for the 5k. I try not to eat them and if I do my weight goes up. My covid loss is 2.5 lbs. :D

I was surprised yesterday to learn that a paddleboard is actually an inflatable. :D:o How did I not know that!? My son has just bought one and the kids love it when he gives them a ride on it. He is not standing up yet, just kneeling. Edie threw a wobbly yesterday because she reckoned she had not had as long a go on it as Max. >:) However, to me it seems a massive amount of work to bring the thing down, pump it up etc, just for a short time in the water. It was hard work pumping! Here he is pumping away with Bea 'helping'.

Still can't believe I thought they were solid, like surf boards!

Heather - Not all paddle boards are inflatable. I actually have only seen fiberglass ones and didn't know there were inflatables either.

Sadly, my friend’s mom with Alzheimer’s passed very early Tuesday morning. Thankfully my friend was allowed to be with her and was holding her hand when she passed. So  for all those who couldn’t be with their loved ones.

When I arose yesterday morning, I was delighted to find that Joe had already hung the magnetic screen. No nagging, no hints, no reminders, just the one Puhleeze and bingo bango done. Thanks Joe!

Margaret what a lovely walk and an unexpected kindness. Big smile!
Amber  the pics, especially the ones of you and your DD, your hubs and JR, and the before and after of you. VERY well done! That cherry pitter sounds like too much work, I'll keep paring them in half and twisting the pits out ;)
Debbie in Napa, You and KJ and all who have provided child care have my utmost admiration and respect. Not my gift. ;) Neither am I a fan of “tough it out, you’ll get used to it.” Give me a wide padded seat for my wide padded seat!
Machka and Kay congratulations to both your husbands for walking after surgery. Hope it brings rapid healing.
Heather a little bit of everything ?!? Wow what a variety! Wish we had more ethnic food options here. We have one Thai (very good), 3 Chinese, 6 Mexican (at least one is very good), but no Italian (other than 3 pizza which I consider standard US fare), Indian, Mediterranean, or other. Then again, looking at my CI lately it’s probably a good thing to have fewer tempting options. I thought paddleboards were solid too!

Katla feel your cell phone pain. Last weekend both Joe’s and mine showed “no service” . At first our carrier’s (Consumer Cellular) website was down too so we couldn’t report it. No outages showed on either partners’ (ATT and TMobile) websites. When is an outage, not an outage?
When it’s an issue with a local cell tower! Finally got through on webchat to carrier’s customer service and after going through her long troubleshooting script, she submitted a trouble ticket to ATT. Service was restored within the hour. Fingers X’d for your test, procedure, and trips to the hottest spot.
Michele I covet your 8 cherries at a time pitter!
Okie thanks for the paddleboard info, that makes sense.

Went over last night on calories, red, red, wine. But enjoyed lovely long walk with friend who showed me a loop from the port all the way to the beach, through the RV park and along the commercial docks then back to the coffee shop for an Italian Soda ;)

Whoops, stove repair guy will be here any minute. Time to fly!

Well, I googled paddleboards and found out there are two kinds. Solid and inflatable. :D It was my DDIL who told me they were all inflatable. :o
It seems there is much debate around which is best. Amazon sells a lot of inflatable ones, which are best for travelling, but the work to blow them up is considerable! However the debate does say that the solid ones are more easily damaged. :)
So I wasn't entirely wrong. The ones I have seen in the Lagoon for hire and lessons are clearly solid.
My son's family do love their toys. Sometimes I blanch at the money they spend on them, but we never had that sort of money to spend. I am a bit of a penny pincher, apart from food. ;):D

COVID test this afternoon. I will be astonished if I don’t pass. One more hoop to jump through. My daughter found out that she had covid antibodies when she was tested for her work. I’d be very happy with that outcome but I’m almost as likely to win the Publisher’s Clearing House Sweepstakes. We’ll see what the day brings. 😳

    Thanks Barbara-
I have taught preschool but most of my 35+yrs have been doing daycare- I tell people they are long hours but they are MY hours. I can take a break when I want, I can have the children I want(and parents-sometimes they are worse to deal with than the kids). I used to really love having them here, especially the triplets but I am getting old and need a break. I also prefer the babies, the younger the better. I always said I would rather have 5 in diapers than 2 school age kids. Hard to get the older kids to listen when they are bigger than you ;) The one I have now is almost 4yrs old, totally spoiled, hard to get her to eat or clean up when I ask. I am really hoping to totally retire or at least take a few months off soon. I need a break and I want to spend more time with my parents(and if I am up there, see my friends that I truly miss)
I am going to try the new gel padded seat along with the padded bike shorts and see if that helps and also keep doing it. I am less sore today than in the past and I did the full hour without stopping except the one time because son needed something but got right back on. Getting off is the hardest part but at least I didn't hurt all night like I did last week.

I know everyone is from different places but tell me what is your "cheat" meal, your splurge??
I have stuck to my 1000 cal. for so long that I am have a hard time going over- afraid of getting off track but I know I need to change things up.
Do you eat little meals more often or intermittened(sp?) fast.
I have been not eating until noon most days. For me, if I eat breakfast, within a half hour I am more hungry than before I ate and am hungry all day. If I don't eat and stay busy, I don't feel hungry at all. Break the fast and then I want to just eat.

dlfk - .I don't do 'cheat' meals because I'm strictly CICO. I eat around1800 calories a day. That's because I have a base line of 1200 plus my 600 morning exercise calories. I also do 300 bonus calories which I try not to eat. Sometimes I fail. :/ I could never live on 1000. Life would be miserable for me. I realise that your height makes things more difficult. I am 5ft 4 ins. It is hard for short people. My DDIL is short, but is a demon exerciser. She often cycles 45 miles. She had to give up running because she damaged her knee, but she used to run 15 miles.
I exercise so I can eat like a 'normal person. Denial is not my style. If I couldn't exercise for any reason i would be HUGE. :#
I lost 57 lbs over 18 months by gradually increasing my exercise calories.

:) I don't do "cheat" meals. The closest I come to that is relaxing my CICO when my husband fixes something special for me. "Cheat" meals are a slippery slope.

Heather and Rebecca--Thanks for sharing the family pictures. I am very happy things are letting up some so can see the grandchildren. I have really missed them.
Lisa--office looks really nice and Corey does great work. DH went to use our printer a couple days ago and it said it was out of ink. We just bought this one new just after the first of the year. Any way he went and bought more ink and they took him that it s a habit of drying out, so should print something once a week.
Well I work 12 hour shift tomorrow and be so glad when my new person is trainned and I will then only work Mon-Fridays. Going after work today and get my nails done. This is something I do just for me and I do enjoy them looking nice. Blessings, Vicki GI NE <3

dlfk: I don't do cheat meals, either—BUT if I want to eat more than usual I exercise to burn the extra calories. Exercise includes walking, riding my friend's horse, & riding my recumbent trike. It is on a trainer in the garage so that I can ride in any weather or any time of day. I ask myself this question and always get the same answer, Who am I cheating? I'm cheating myself. I didn't list yoga as a way to burn calories because I haven't been able to go lately. I hope to return to my yoga class asap.

dlfk - .I don't do 'cheat' meals because I'm strictly CICO.
I lost 57 lbs over 18 months by gradually increasing my exercise calories.

when I was doing my hour on the treadmill, an hour of zumba and half hour of abs workout I would eat a little more but with no zumba/abs plus not doing treadmill I really tried to always stay at 1000. I am just now getting back to regular exercise but don't feel that motivated. I am slowly getting back on track. Maybe next week I will get back on the treadmill- use those exercise calories to add a little more to my diet. I need to find the balance that works and the scale starts moving.

:) I don't do "cheat" meals. The closest I come to that is relaxing my CICO when my husband fixes something special for me. "Cheat" meals are a slippery slope.

My husband doesn't fix anything but loves to get takeout and brings his left overs home- never, ever anything healthy in the slightest so pretty easy MOST days to stay away from it. This past week he has brought home Church's Fried chicken, Chevy's Mexican food, all meat pizza and Chinese food. Not healthy and for sure not great for a diabetic. This is the stuff he brings home all the time.
