@T1DCarnivoreRunner How do you manually upload to strava from the watch? DH is running and hasn't messed with it yet. I think he has a 935 or maybe a 735, I have the fenix 5 too.

    TIA
ETA I looked at it and it seems rather straight forward. Nice about garmin being down, my scale "forgets" how much I weigh daily, LOL! Any word on who is demanding the ransom? DH said china, but I think that may be a self started rumor. My bets on Apple or MFP LOL! 2020 got us again.

I was fortunate that my Fenix 5 worked for today's run. No issues aside from still can't load to Garmin and see details.

With my 935 I can see the details on the watch itself, which is nice, but with the tiny watch screen it takes a lot of scrolling. :) I assume your Fenix 5 would be the same.

You can do that on the Fenix 5s. I looked at mine yesterday when I was being lazy & hadn't uploaded to strava.

Ended up skipping my run today but did weights then hopped on the new spin bike for a 25 minute class.

@RunsOnEspresso : no, I don't have a team...just me (creating a team would require planning and foresight, which are currently not in my skill set :( )

    Upcoming and current races:

D-Backs Virtual Run Against Cancer on 10/17 (which would have been my son's 43rd birthday....)

(if one were to search for Honu Nui on FB, one might find a donation link...if one were so moved)

Big Island Challenge (virtually run 110 miles from Hilo to Kona by 9/27)

@HonuNui The weblink to donate. I think MFP is okay with that... if not I am sure they'll remedy it. It is a fundraiser, not self promotion or profit. I am going to donate once i get my depressed lazy keister off the couch and find a credit card... Eric signed up ya know.

Obviously nobody knows for sure who is demanding the ransom. It would be easier if that was the case. It's probably some terrorist organization that wants to use the money for illicit purposes. It's best not to pay the ransom, though I know this sucks. In fairness, we don't know for sure they will get it back even if they did pay the $10M.

No one knows anything, but the rumors seem to point to a Russian group called "Evil Corp" using ransomware packaged called WastedLocker - but since Garmin is being really good about staying tight-lipped we have no actual facts just some leaks and outside observation. It does seem likely though.

Gramin will have to make a statement at some point, but they are in crisis damage control right now so I would not expect much anytime soon.

Russia eh? wow. Doesn't that implement our own government? I did a quick google search and saw that Garmin was having to rebuild from ground up, assuming they add further security measures and the cost would/could be passed on to users. I agree. The US has never (that i know of, catered to terrorists demands), I wouldn't expect them to and surprised a demand would even be made. Be cool if they could work with strava in the mean time, patch it all to their systems- since they went through a breech not long ago. Poor Garmin.

Finally got in a run last night. It was raining all day and the temps were quite low for this time of year, but I was holed up working until nearly 9pm. Went out for 10km and it was the most enjoyable run I've had for a while.

@skippygirlsmom That sounds scary. My grandfather used to have both stomach and heart problems, and he often couldn't tell which was which when he started feeling bad. Funny how these things manifest in our brains. Glad you're ok.

My watch just connected to the app! Garmin appears to be back. Hooray! Well, sort of. It transferred my yoga workout from my watch to the app and pushed it across to Strava and Training Peaks. Can’t upload weight. Still has the message ‘we are down for maintenance’, but it’s a step in the right direction.

Happy to report my soleus issues are constantly if slowly improving. Remembering to use my hamstrings instead of my calves is the key. This is weird, but becoming less so. I now am having a few totally pain-free runs, but these ones are usually where I am fully warmed up first (late afternoon rather than morning) and have just done a yoga class!

Yeah, I ended up, uploading my runs manually mainly so that my coach could see the data and so that MFP would be rightist for food again. I suspect there is a chance this will create duplicates when they are finally back up and syncing is live again, but I can just delete the manual entries if that happens. Or ignore them which is also pretty likely. :)

My watch synced this morning and Strava does NOT show double entries, but MFP does. No big deal to go through and delete the old manual ones, but wanted to give a heads up for anyone else that might have manually added exercise to MFP.

    January Total: 161k
    February Total: 167k
    March Total: 181k
    April Total: 191k
    May Total: 200k
    June Total: 156k

    2020 Total through June: 1056k / 176k per month

Rest day today. Golf instead of running. Watch is trying to sync even as I type. Deliberately did not do any manual entries here or in Run the Edge, thinking it would be easier to add a couple of manual entries if necessary than to delete a number of double entries.

When you pop in here claiming your December 2020 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?

Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs
Run at least 4 5k races
    Get a 5k PR
Average at least 138k per month, to meet my Run the Year pledge of 1,020 miles
Stretch goal: If I can average 169k per month, I can run 2020k in 2020

Run the Year Team: Pavement Pounders

    2020 races:

9-19 Race for the Parks 5k, Hudson, OH
10-11 Haunted Hustle 5k, Aurora, OH

    Ha! Love the cartoon @PastorVincent!
Yes, Garmin sync'd this morning for me as well :D Great job Garmin! Now you can get on that COVID-19 vaccine 😏😏

Only 4 slow miles this morning. Seemed cooler at the start of the run, but felt just as miserable and soaked by mile 2.

Great run @kgirlhart ! I tend to anthropomorphize dogs a lot too, so I'm totally on the same page that the lab was telling the other dog to leave you alone.

@T1DCarnivoreRunner Sorry you had a horrible run, but at least you got it done!

@HonuNui Glad the hurricane missed you.

    Love the cartoon @PastorVincent !

Yes it can, but I doubt it would be enforced in this case.

As for the camera, odd. My browser permissions are set to block that so I did not have that issue. But if that link is trying to turn on people's camera's maybe we should have a moderator remove it.

@Elise4270 Rather than type it all out, I'll just post a link I found: https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2020/jul/24/garmin-down-how-to-get-activities-on-strava-ride-swim-walk

Rumor is Garmin paid the ransom...

Works but something funny with it. My camera keeps opening as I read it... beware. That’s terrible if they paid it. Couldn’t that be considered treason? Supporting terrorism?

I'm not a lawyer, but I know if they are on the Treasury dept. sanctioned lists - SDN list and such - they can't be paid by U.S. companies. But perhaps Garmin is looking at it from the legal standpoint that they don't really know who they are paying and therefore didn't knowingly pay anyone who is sanctioned. And if that is the case, why didn't they request a W-8 from the recipient before sending payment so that they would have the information they need to collect before sending payment?! Either way they want to look at it, it's likely not legal. I say "likely" because I don't truly know all the details.

From what the article said it sounded like they paid a 3rd party to get around the sanction.

The article didn't try to open my camera.
