@noblsheep Good luck with the ukulele! My son played it a bit, it is upside down from any other stringed instrument if I remember correctly. You have any inspirations? I love IZ, Aloha ka manini is prob my current favorite, and of course his Somewhere Over the Rainbow. I bought a cello to go with the violin. It's fun, until its not and I can't get something to stick in my brain. I love your beautiful goals!3

I had a really nice 6.25 mile run this morning. The weather is still hot and humid, but I managed to keep my pace under 11 min/mile. It wasn't cloudy today so it wasn't as dark as the last two days and it was a little less humid. I didn't see any deer this morning, but I did see a rabbit. There wasn't anything special about the run, it was just a run that felt good and a nice, pretty morning. My feet are starting to get really achy after my runs though and today my ankle felt a little cranky after the run. I last replaced my shoes 380 miles ago, so I'm sure that's the issue. I really wish there was a running store closer to me. The closest one is 60 miles away and I don't really want to go over there since they have a lot more Covid cases than we have here.
Thanks for the well wishes @Tramboman , @PastorVincent , @quilteryoyo , @shanaber , @noblsheep and @skippygirlsmom!
@quilteryoyo As far as your plan goes, what I would do is figure what my typical weekly mileage was and then either start it at the beginning wherever in the plan was closest to what I was currently running. I don't know if that is the best thing to do, but that is what I would do.
Tomorrow will be a rest day so I'm closing out July at 128.18 miles for the month which is over my goal of 100 miles and a little over my stretch goal of 200 K (at 206 K). Congrats to all who made their goal and to those who didn't that's ok, there's always next month. See you all in the August thread. Thanks for setting it up @katharmonic!

@kgirlhart @katharmonic we seems to run around the same mileage each month.2

@kgirlhart - glad no biopsy was needed and hopefully it will never develop into anything more!
@hamsterwheel6 - There is a fun women's running group started by Kelly Roberts called the Bad *kitten* Lady Gang/Sports Bra Squad. Also there is a Global Sports Bra Squad Day usually in July but I don't recall seeing it for this year.
Welcome @xcc670! Many of the runners here have or are using C25K so there is lots of support for that. Feel free to ask questions or jump into the conversations!
ooohh loving that group! I feel much better now And empowered to do it again.2 -
marisap2010 wrote: »Welcome @xcc670!
We had storms on and off yesterday, so I got in about a mile and a half before it started up again.
Not much, but I haven’t had a lot of energy for the last few days because I have been dealing with so much. I did get some much needed repairs completed at home yesterday, and hopefully, Dad will be discharged from ICU today, which will be another stressor down. My plan is to get in some speed work tonight.
Good news on your dad!0 -
Today was spin day and strength training. Had a good ride - took two classes.
As far as running, I may have to call it for July. I have a physical tomorrow morning and then have to go to work. Might try for one later, but for me usually if I don't get in my workout in the morning, it usually doesn't happen.
So 107.63 for the month which meets goal, but not stretch. I would have had I not started spinning, but I'm ok with that.

Thanks for your input @kgirlhart . I decided to go back to the plan for the month where I almost ran 60 miles - which was May. That is actually only the 2nd week of my HM plan. My goal is to run 61 miles in August in honor of my 61st birthday. The plan should get me beyond that, if I follow it to the tee. Than never happens, but I think I can get 61 by following it as closely as possible.3
-
I did a Mixed Interval run on the treadmill today. Ran 3.5 miles and walked one. The first 10 minutes, at the slowest paces, was the hardest. I just couldn't get going. After that, it was better. It's amazing how easy 4.5 mph feels after running a minute at 7.0 mph.
I don't think I'll be running 40 miles tomorrow, so won't make my goal. I do hope to get up early and do 3 miles or so before leaving to play tennis and then my annual doctor's appointment. Not sure that will happen, but I can always hope.

Great to read the good test news @kgirlhart and that your dad is improving @marisap2010. I’ve just had my last run of the month. Very hot today by London standards (so not actually that hot) so I’m glad I got it done this morning around 24 degrees (71F) if it really is going to be 33 (91) later!
81 miles done so 6 miles over target. Happy me! See you on the August thread.

And that wraps it up for the month. It was hot, humid and not pretty, but it got done. (Now it's 3 in the afternoon and raining cats and dogs.)
@quilteryoyo @Elise4270 Thanks for the encouragement! I was fiddling around Youtube the other day and came across a guy named Jake Shimabukuro who plays Bohemian Rhapsody on the ukulele. I think that was what got me started.9 -
I went out about 7pm last night and ran 3 miles including hill repeats. It was about 87 degrees
and humid, but it didn’t feel too bad.
So, I’m not going to make my 100 miles for the month, but if I get in my run tonight, I’ll be a little over 70. I’m ok with that considering life lately.

I woke up this morning and wasn't feeling a run. Then I looked at the temp & it confirmed mt original not running thought. 66ish miles for July. Not bad for a month that was hot & humid and I took a week off.

Yesterday I bailed on a morning run with some friends at 7am because I just felt exhausted when my alarm went off. I lazed around a little and debated a last minute rally but it felt so good to just relax and get to work earlier for once. Which of course meant I had to run later in the day. As I was driving from work toward home trying to decide where to run that I wasn't completely sick of, I thought of some trails near work that I hadn't really explored - partly because they are sort of creepy. They surround a big old quarry and there's lots of "interesting" stuff back there, like clown graffiti and signs that say "turn back". I texted my friends that I was currently running these clown murder trails and if I didn't come back to send someone. But it was fine and kind of cool to see. The trails are really set up for biking and I saw several bikes out there so I didn't feel totally alone. I was glad I had AllTrails on my phone though because there are tons of intersecting trails and it would be easy to get lost. As it was, I cut it shorter than intended because I was afraid my phone was going to die. I definitely want to go back and explore more, but maybe with other people.
This morning's run was just an easy run along the canal with a friend for our usual 5k ish route. It was plenty warm but it's definitely cooled of a little and is less humid. Right now sitting outside I'm very comfortable with a lovely breeze.
And that wraps up July! Despite a slow start, I made my goal of 240 miles for Sarcoma Awareness. 134.7 miles running and 106.5 miles walking = 241.2 miles total.7 -

Well, July has been a wash for me. I was hoping that cutting back mileage would improve my knee, but if anything it’s worse now than at the start of July. I really do suspect a meniscus tear and there’s not much to be done about it at this point, even with the best of care and surgery meniscus healing in an over 50 diabetic is a poor prospect.
I got 90 miles mixed walking, hiking, and running, tried to run 5k at least twice a week to keep some semblance of aerobic fitness. Plus stationary bike. Pleasingly my weight is trending down and my glucose has been good.
Oh well, onward and upward!8 -

@rheddmobile - while actually fixing and healing a torn meniscus isn't very affective, if there is a piece or pieces that could be restricting movement, they can go in and trim and clean it up. If that is the issue you may see some relief. PT can also help. I did not have any surgery for mine but did several months of PT that really made a difference.
@noblsheep - anticipating YouTube videos of you playing Bohemian Rhapsody on the Ukulele! Love that song!
We are finally getting our heat for the summer and broke records today. Under an extreme heat advisory through tomorrow afternoon. I got out reasonably early (for me) this morning and it was 71F at the start and 83F when I finished. There wa s absolutely no breeze and felt so much hotter than it was. The good news is I ran most of it and other than being hot, it felt wonderful. I did notice how out of shape I am after 5 weeks of no real running plus the months of not being able to really run much.
I was not able to run my ISS 10K this month so I am late getting it done. I will hopefully run it later next week when it should be a bit cooler.
