After such a poor showing at the race, i've renewed urge to run.
i don't think long races are going to happen in summer and fall because i don't do well with the heat. but the more i run in the heat, the stronger runner i can be. i can do cold, rain, snow, but heat and humidity blech
so with the renewed desire to train, i took speed demon and twyla out. it was a short run. it was a test for my foot and my foster. my foot did well. twyla struggled a bit after the first mile. speed demon started us out fast but the heat made her slow down. twyla did great. she's not much of a canicross dog. she ran next to me for the most part. every once in a while she ran with speed demon in front, and matched her pace.
there was a lot of walking. the second mile had a lot. twyla needed breaks. speed demon needed breaks. i can honestly say I was ok.also new hair
grass snacks
both the dogs were in and out of pool afterwards
she needs to train some to be a great runner but she enjoyed the expedition8 -
@mbaker566 sorry for your DNF, but good call and sounds like you have a good renewed outlook.
@katharmonic sorry for your Spartan race cancellations for the year. It will be a good thing. You'll come back next year stronger.
4 miles again this morning. Felt better today. Nothing really hurt, which is rarified air for me 😁 Speaking of air, it was 78F and dew point of 77F! So it was misting the whole time. You could cut the air with a knife.

@mbaker566 love love love the new hair color. I think we don’t see the benefits of summer running until the Fall and suddenly we are like wow look at me all strong and moving. On a side note, how to you like the fire pit in your picture, I look at it in Home Depot all the time because I love the look of it and wonder how it works, good, so so etc.
@kathamonic I hate your Spartan race was canceled

Some speed work in 90° heat this morning. 3.9 miles total. Hit all goal paces except one repeat.
It was 1 min @ 9:04-9:24 x 5 then 1 min @ 8:19 - 8:39 x 4.
8 minutes feels easy when I do it for short distance. Don't think I'll ever do anything consistently at that pace. I'd like to get to average 9-10 minutes/mile in races (if we ever race again).
66.8 for the month. Friday's run will probably be 4 miles so I'll end July at 70 miles. Short of my goal of minimum 77 miles with a hopeful goal of 80. Stupid vacation where I only hiked. 🤣5 -
@skippygirlsmom i haven't actually used it. it was a floor model i got from Menards. but i like it. it's pretty sturdy.1

@mbaker566 LOVE your new hair. I want to do something like that but I keep chickening out. Also I love both dogs - Speed Demon has the best eyes and the new one is just so scruffy adorable.
I met a little Boston Terrier out on my run today and about melted when he/she came wiggling over to me to be petted. I used to have one and they are my favorite kind of dog (don't tell Stella). I debated grabbing the little guy and making a run for it.PastorVincent wrote: »katharmonic wrote: »Disappointing but not unexpected news - Spartan has cancelled all remaining races for 2020. .

Debated my options for today - stair workout this morning, run group speedwork tonight, both or neither. In the end I picked probably neither. It is supposed to thunderstorm later today and tonight so I didn't want to have to run in that if I didn't want to. But I still need miles to meet my goal and would do fewer if I did the stairs, so I decided to just run on my own. I had high hopes that the humidity was much better today but it frankly felt just as hard today. I finished the 4 miles then went back in and got Stella and took her out to walk for 3 more. Just in case it rains later, it's all done for today.
So I finished my 22 days of pushups yesterday, I am at 231.6/240 for my July run and walk goal, and just over 24 miles away from my OneNY 1000k.5 -

Looks like the one we have. Really needs to not be on the grass even though it has legs. We need to get some bricks or something to put ours on.1 -

I ran 6 miles today and it was a really good run. I managed to get out the door at 5:45. The weather was about the same as yesterday (with feels like temps in the low 80's, cloudy and humid), but for some reason it didn't feel as hard starting out as it did yesterday. I didn't see any skunks today but I did see a deer in the same area where I saw the four deer yesterday. All in all it was a really nice run. I was still pretty slow, but I was a little faster than yesterday, and I have resigned myself to the fact that my runs will be slow until the weather cools down and then they will probably get faster again. Maybe it just felt better since I wasn't as stressed today as I was yesterday. I had my diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound yesterday. There is a node that hasn't changed that we will keep watching and some micro-calcifications, but no biopsy necessary. Just go back in 6 months. That's really what I expected, but it is still stressful and running helps a lot.
2020 races:
11/7/20: Run for 57th AHC Half Marathon4 -
@mbaker566 Sorry about the DNF. Love your hair!!! I want to do this. Don't know if I have the guts to! And beautiful new foster
@katharmonic Sorry to you too about your spartan races....I think 2020 needs to just end.
@kgirlhart Good news! I know how stressful all this medical stuff can be.
So decided to head outside to run today..looked cloudy which is better than sunny and was "only" 75F but with 94% humidity and dewpoint 73. Didn't feel too bad the first 2-3 miles (did I just say that?). After that, though really felt it. Took off my tank top as it was sticking to me and hot. Never ran around here in just my sports bra but at that point I. Did. Not. Care.
Plus I saw a couple other women like that so there. Lol.
I did a peloton workout for bit to start, then finished doing my own thing. 7.5 Miles 10:40 average pace so not too bad considering the heat and humidity and that the last 3 miles had a walk breaks.

Thanks @PastorVincent
We had an above ground pool and I think now that it's gone instead of fixing that spot I might turn it into a fire pit area.

I just joined this challenge. I am a newish runner. I started running in January 2020 using a C25k app on my phone. I've moved forward and back again. The app has a walk/run program that progresses to more running and less walking.
This morning I started walking, not sure if I was up for running. After about a mile I decided I was up for a running session. I finished 3 miles. I took a new route that has more inclines and I really liked it.11 -
@kgirlhart Glad you had a good run and report from your tests! Not knowing is really stressful.
@hamsterwheel6 Way to hang in there and get it done in the heat and humidity. Excellent pace given the conditions.
Welcome @xcc670 .
The last couple of days have been cross training for me. I played tennis both days and after I finished today, I mowed my lawn. It was hot - 86°F and humid when mowing. I'm beat. Hoping to get a run in tomorrow.
Since my HM was cancelled, I really haven't been following my plan - and the fact that I was really busy the first couple of weeks of the month means I fell way behind. Not going to meet my goal for July, by a long shot. Anyway, I'm trying to decide if I should just repeat the HM plan I was doing, since I didn't finish it, go to the next level plan, start the current one somewhere in the middle and try to finish it, or something else. Any advice would be appreciated.4 -
Welcome @xcc670 Awesome job on the 3 miles.1
-
Oh hey guys, I made the August thread
https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10805346/august-2020-monthly-running-challenge#latest4 -
@kgirlhart - glad no biopsy was needed and hopefully it will never develop into anything more!
@hamsterwheel6 - There is a fun women's running group started by Kelly Roberts called the Bad *kitten* Lady Gang/Sports Bra Squad. Also there is a Global Sports Bra Squad Day usually in July but I don't recall seeing it for this year.
Welcome @xcc670! Many of the runners here have or are using C25K so there is lots of support for that. Feel free to ask questions or jump into the conversations!1 -

@xcc670 Welcome!
@mbaker566 Sorry about your DNF but it was probably the right call. Love the new hair! Always enjoy the canine run reports and pics.
@katharmonic Sorry to hear about the races being canceled. Perhaps you can take the opportunity to branch into (yet) another kind of sport?
@kgirlhart That's great news. Hang in there.
No run today. Woke up early but air quality was *kitten* and it was hot and humid with maybe half a dozen u's. Supposed to be raining tomorrow. We'll see.
In non-running related news, I got my wee self a ukulele, because I'm getting bored out of my mind and trying (or failing) to learn something new is always good distraction.9 -
Welcome @xcc670!
We had storms on and off yesterday, so I got in about a mile and a half before it started up again.
Not much, but I haven’t had a lot of energy for the last few days because I have been dealing with so much. I did get some much needed repairs completed at home yesterday, and hopefully, Dad will be discharged from ICU today, which will be another stressor down. My plan is to get in some speed work tonight.7 -

they had a virtual event. i did it. mostly on accident. it was too hot to keep my shirt on but i credit her for letting me comfortable enough to take off my shirt. i have buffs from the group.3 -
@marisap2010 Sounds like your dad is doing some better. I hope that he continues to heal.
