My husband did this for us - it’s similar to the design of the official Boston Marathon medals, except that instead of the blue and yellow with Boston unicorn, we have red and yellow with a dragon which is based on the cover of “The Elwyn Chronicles,” part of the Dragon Masters series by Vincent Trigli, aka @PastorVincent.
I love you guys! Thank you for coming together as a community to run for @PastorVincent.
I love the medal! Great job!!!1 -

@HonuNui Congrats on finishing the marathon distance. Love the fireworks at the end and "eating" a hot dog with ketchup. Love the montage also. This is such a great group of people!
@ContraryMaryMary I think your act of kindness is fantastic, especially since you went above and beyond your comfort zone with extra children.
@skippygirlsmom Looks like a great place for a run.
@kgirlhart Sorry to hear about your dad. I hope once they get his medicine under control he'll be doing better. Great job on your 10 mile run and doing more than the required amount to "simulate" going back and running with Kristi and getting your 1,000 mile bib. Also love your RAOK. Sounds like you were lead to the right person at the right time.
@marisap2010 I sort of understand how you feel about your dad. Mine is 88 and still doing okay, but I can see how he is going down in some areas and it does make me really sad. Hugs to you and your family. Congratulations on finishing the virtual marathon and having pizza to celebrate.2 -
That is an awesome looking medal @rheddmobile! Please thank your husband for his work and creativity.
@marisap2010 and @kgirlhart sorry to hear about your dads. Sending out much love to you both
Great job everyone finishing the virtual marathon for @PastorVincent We all pulled together to honor a terrific human being.
I guess there is something in the air (besides all the smoke from the CA fires) for parents to be in the hospital. I got a phone message Saturday afternoon from the local hospital asking me to call them back so they could give me an update on my Mom's condition. Wait What??!!! So I called and asked what the hell they were talking about. They thought I dropped my Mom off at the emergency room earlier. I said I had no idea what they were talking about. They told me 'someone' dropped my Mom off because she fell outside and bumped the back of her head. She blacked out and couldn't remember what happened. She was very confused and didn't know what day or month it was. They were running tests (MRI, Xray, EKG) to see if there was any brain bleed or swelling, see if any neck damage, or if she had a heart attack that caused to to fall and black out. All the tests came back normal, and on Sunday she started remembering some things. She said she was walking her dog and stepped up on a curb and tripped and fell. I don't know how she would have fell backward, but that's what she says. She should be released this afternoon. I think it is time to start looking for a facility for her. She has fallen a few times in the last few months, so this is looking like a pattern. Ugh, it's hard to see your parents become your dependent.
I woke up at 2am sneezing. Nose kept running the rest of the night (morning). Kept getting up every 20 minutes to blow my nose. Finally got up and thought a run would cure all. So went out to just run the minimum at a very slow pace. As usual, by the end of the run everything felt better. Nose didn't run at all, stopped sneezing. Seems like whenever I feel bad, running always seems to help. It truly is my therapy. Ended up doing 5 miles at a normal pace.

How I do manually record a run in Strava? I did 29.4 on Saturday. I am 116 posts behind. Guh.

I’m so glad to hear from you! I was wondering where you were!
Add an activity manually
If you want to record an activity on Strava without a GPS device, you can create a manual upload. Simply input all the information manually, like distance, time, activity type, etc.
To do this:
Log into Strava
Click on "Upload" at the top right corner of the page
Click on "Manual" as listed on the left side
Select your Activity Type, enter the other required fields, and click "Create"
More info here, for syncing different devices.

GOOD MORNING, @rheddmobile !!!!! Yesterday, I was doctoring my ankle and right leg and also cleaning. I'm alive!!!!!!
29.4 Saturday and I got it uploaded and sent the virtual medal to Kristi so she can see. I told her about putting together something for her so that it is ONE thing and not a million messages regarding acts of kindness.
Here is a thought!!!!!!
We could find out from Kristi what she and her son like to eat and we could order from the restaurant to either have it delivered or she can pick it up. I was thinking that would be a really personal and tangible thing. Could also just be the southerner in me, lol. My love language is feeding people for sure.
My crazy, running 100 miles to my brother (he's actually 688 miles away, but I'm working on it) plan is coming together. he is in Indiana and in the Run The Year group on fb, I think I have about 12 people in that area willing to pace me, stop and say hi, give me a hug, etc. Nick and Sophie said they will be my aid station and take care of the kids while I'm running.
Here's the fun part. The only dates that work for them are Dec 8 - Jan 11. It is going to be SO cold in Indiana! But I think this will be super fun and exciting. And maybe stupid. But also fun and exciting.
Thoughts? Advice?

Thanks @polskagirl01 @rheddmobile @quilteryoyo and @Scott6255 . So far today is about the same as yesterday. Sorry to hear about your mom @Scott6255 . That is scary on a lot of levels. I hope she's ok.
That medal is awesome @rheddmobile. Thanks so much to your husband!2 -
@kgirlhart @Scott6255 @marisap2010 Sorry about your parents...I know too well. Lost my mom 10 years ago next week and it is still tough. My dad is 82 and has had many issues too lately.
@ContraryMaryMary Sorry about the race, I'm sure you will still get it done!
@Camaramandy648 You. Are. Killing. It. And crazy lol. BUT if you have the drive, motivation, and support, I know you can do it! The restaurant thing sounds great, I also love to feed people!
@rheddmobile Fantastic medal! Thank your husband for us, and hugs to you both! (I'm printing it an putting it with my other medals)
7.45 miles today. Slow and easy miles. Hamstring was ok, but started tightening up later so walked the rest. Still felt good to get out. Temp was ok to begin, but sucky at the end lol.4 -

VM for @PastorVincent – Done!
It was so cloudy this morning resulting in it being a very dark morning. And humid – like 100% humidity. I’m back in the office working for the next two weeks so I had to get out and get it done even though I’m a big chicken running by myself in the dark.
Hugs to you @marisap2010, @kgirlhart and @Scott6255. My parents are still doing well at 80 and 81 but their strength and stamina have definitely declined in recent years.
Sorry your HM got changed up. Glad you snagged an early start time. There may be no cheering crowds but we will all be there in spirit cheering you on!
I love the medal @rheddmobile! Perfect!
Glad your hamstring passed the initial run test @hamsterwheel6!

@kgirlhart , @marisap2010 , and @Scott6255 Sorry to hear about your parents. It's hard watching parents age. I hope everyone is on the mend.
@polskagirl01 Good job on the real race!! I'm so envious!
@ContraryMaryMary Good luck on your race! It seems like a creative solution.
@Camaramandy648 I say go for it! It seems like maybe this was meant to be.0 -

I'm still reveling in my "cool" weather over here. 73F with only 92% humidity. The humidity sucks but the difference of 10 degrees makes such a difference!3 -
Thank you @martaindale and @hamsterwheel6 ! I am excited. I didn't think anybody would go for it. Now that they have, I have to follow through. There is some part of me that thinks, "Oh, Lord, what have I done."
But then the bigger part of me thinks, "This is damn cool."
In other news, I think my left toenail may be about to fall off. I am not sure, but it doesn't feel awesome. I have sized up - so I really think it's just all the running.
We just lost almost all of our technicians due to having to quarantine. It is going to be a slow couple of weeks.4 -

Cloudy, low 70s F, humid and a little drizzle today. Had hoped to finish stronger, but there wasn't much left in the tank today. Left it all out on the course, which was what I was aiming to do. Made my stretch time goal and finished my VM with @PastorVincent . Pizza and beer sounds pretty good, even on a Sunday morning.

@rheddmobile Thank you, and thank you for all you've done in support of our VM.
Thoughts and prayers for all whose parents are struggling with health issues.3 -
@Scott6255 Sorry to hear about your mom. I know that was a shock when you got the call from the hospital. I hope she recovers completely and got to go home today.
@Camaramandy648 You can do anything you set your mind to. That's not something I would want to do, but diversity is what makes the world go around. You go for it and we'll support you all the way.
@hamsterwheel6 Glad your hamstring is getting better. Good for you for listening to your body and walking when needed.
Yeah for finishing the VM for Pastor Vincent @Teresa502 !

@polskagirl01 I can't remember if I congratulated you on your race - but great job and I loved your real in person race report!
@ContraryMaryMary good luck with your sort of real race.
Congrats to everyone who finished up the VM. @rheddmobile that virtual medal is AMAZING. Thanks to your husband for designing that and thank you for organizing this whole thing. So awesome.
Thinking of you all with your parents @kgirlhart, @marisap2010, and @Scott6255.
Scott, that is very scary and I hope she's doing okay. Glad you had a therapeutic run.

I passed on doing a sprint workout this morning and went to work early. Sometimes it's just about not wanting to drive there and back, have to take the shower and get ready after, you know? Because I started earlier than usual, I left earlier so I could get home and walk the dog, run, and go to to strength training. During the dog walk, I decided to try to run a little bit with her, so we did about a mile of stop and start running. Then I headed to the gym and ran in that neighborhood for 4 miles before my strength training class. Lots of core work again today, and of course squats and lunges galore.7 -
Bike ride won yesterday and was very nice, I took it easy over about 18k and it felt perfect.
I was sort of struggling with how to plan for 3 weeks in a row with a HM race every weekend and what to do in-between. I think the answer is: it depends on how the races go, but probably something like a reverse taper - progessively more each week. I made a tentative plan that incorporates recovery, rest day(s) before each race and any harder workouts front-loaded to the beginning of the week.
I meant to bike to the track today, and was all ready to go when I stepped into the garage and saw my bike up on the repair stand. I wasn't in a treadmill mood, so ran to the woods instead and did my "6 x 400 meters at 5k pace" on the trails, using my watch to know when I was done, with random walk/run recovery intervals until I felt ready to do the next 400. Then I said hi to the horses and ran easy the rest of the way home.9 -
@Scott6255 I’m sorry to hear about your mom. I’m sure that was a very scary call. I hope she is doing better today.
@rheddmobile That medal is awesome!3 -
@polskagirl01 I can't imagine running 3 HM in 3 consecutive weekends. Sounds like you have a good plan going in. The horses are really cute.4

Hazy (courtesy of western wildfires) and mid 40s F today. Put on a long sleeved tech shirt, because I knew my wife would yell at me if she caught me running just in a short sleeved shirt.
After the run, I had to go back and look at last week's times, because based on how I felt today, there is no way I could have run those times without help. Then I realized I must have had help -- Vincent was reducing the pull of gravity, or making the world spin faster, or putting more oxygen molecules in the air, or something....

Still Lurking around. Recovering from a sprained hip, the 2nd worst injury I have ever had.
2020 the year that keeps on giving.
1 - Calf Strain
2 - PF round 1
3 - PF round 2
4 - Cracked - Bruised Tailbone ( hurts to sit, stand or laydown - not many options left )
5 - Sprained Hip.
Between Tropical storms, Hurricanes and fires hope every one is able to seek refuge and be safe.
At least we are getting some amazing sunsets with the high smoke haze from the California/Oregon fires. The picture just does not do justice to the true view.13 -
@polskagirl01 good luck with your series of HM races. I think tapering for the whole time is a good idea. I would probably just run easy and do lots of yoga and stretching in between, and not worry about any speedwork or hard workouts. But you know yourself and your race goals. (I feel like PastorVincent would have some good do as I say, not as I do advice here )9

Warm-up run this morning before yoga. And I really did need to warm up as my phone told me it was 37 degrees when I woke up. Brisk! Great running weather but I wasn't feeling too peppy after last night's workout. I intended to get 3 miles in but ran late and settled for 2. I'm happy to have a long break from running now - not until tomorrow night's run group! That's about as long as it gets to maintain this daily run streak.
Have a wonderful day, all.7 -
3 miles today. It was a struggle. The smoke here is getting better but you can still see haze.
I didn't get out yesterday because I woke up feeling cruddy (yay allergies/asthma/smoke). So I DNF'd Boston 🤷🏼♀️ Pretty typical for me and the marathon distance.
Sept total 21.69 -
@quilteryoyo Thank you! I really feel like it was this group and @PastorVincent that made me start believing I really - just maybe - CAN do anything I set my mind to, if I am willing to work. I have always believed that about other people - and I tell my kids all the time. I always leave that hook on there too - "if you are willing to work. You have to be willing to work!" I think this belief in me and the wisdom and mentorship is what crushes me about Vincent's passing.
@Tramboman That really is so beautiful. I have thought the same things about all the ultras as of late. There's no way I could do this. No freaking way.
@polskagirl01 I think that's really smart. I'm doing a similar thing since I have so much distance to cover and not a lot of time in between each one. Reverse tapering, hyper intense focus on nutrition and recovery. I hope it works for both of us!
@RunsOnEspresso the marathon distance sucks. I feel like for me anyway, once I get beyond 26.2, I start thinking, what's another five? I have lost my mind though, so it may be in everyone's best interest to not think like me.
@juliet3455 that is SO gorgeous!
@katharmonic I agree! he would have some great advice! I think the biggest thing is giving the body the fuel and TIME to repair, as much as possible. But then again, I don't do like...full REST days. Even rest days are pretty active. For example, yesterday should have been a rest day, but I was so concerned about planning the 100 mile race in Indiana in December and was thinking about my IT bands and hammies and thought, I need quads made of titanium. Steel. Gold. Platinum. I need them to be strong to protect the tendons, etc. So I ended up lifting - just a little bit heavier and a little bit more reps. So... I guess yeah. As I say, not as i do would fit.
I haven't heard back from Kristi - I sent her a photo of the medal that @rheddmobile's husband made. I'm sure she's very busy!
Regarding the 100 miler I am planning in Indiana - just got an email from the Running Store I found up there, who I emailed and solicited for help with the trails etc. Don't know this person, but so far I've got a good crew and even my big brother said, "I want to be your crew too!" So many people in the world are good. This is such a great reminder and may be the biggest, stupidest, most exciting adventure of my life.5 -
I'm trying to catch up, so I'm so sorry if I missed anyone or anything big! Still getting used to the MFP message boards.
@Scott6255 so sorry to hear about your mom, and I will send prayers and positive thoughts!
@hamsterwheel6 glad you are back and running and your hamstring isnt doing too poorly still!
@martaindale it's been beautiful running weather here too temp wise, but the humidity is crazy here in Michigan too (not sure if you had mentioned where you are from or if I missed it)
@ContraryMaryMary that is an amazing act of kindness! I can barely find a chance to catch my breath sometimes with my two kids, so for you to take that on and give your friend a chance to finish off her move, that's so kind and generous!
Loving all the photos of the runs and great distances from everyone! It's keeping me motivated while I'm still on the mend. I definitely had a bit too high of hopes for healing and have to face the reality that I won't make my numbers for September. I've been doing stretching exercises and was finally able to walk without the wrap on today, so I know it is getting better, but I'll wait another week so I don't hurt it more. I plan on trying to go for a walk on Friday to 'test the waters' and see how its going. As it is now, I got some gnarly bruising all over my ankle/foot that is starting to go away and it is minimally swollen.6 -
I finally managed to get in a random act of kindness! I’ve been trying to be, you know, generally nicer, more patient, and more pleasant to be around, but being in a high risk category and completely isolating I don’t really see anybody but my mom and husband and some neighbors from a distance. But a few days ago someone wrote me on ancestry because I had people of the same last name in my tree, trying to figure out a problem. Turns out they were not the same branch as my family, but I took a long look at it anyway and realized they were a branch I had done a lot of work on some time ago hoping to find a connection, so I was able to fix them right up! Took me a couple hours and now they are very happy since this was a dead end for them.
The moral of the story being there is always something you can do for someone!7
