Did a body pump DVD today. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Biggest Loser Boot Camp DVD

Pip – you don’t drink water when you’re cycling???? Whenever I do a spinning workout, I always go thru at least 24oz of water, sometimes more

    Rebecca
    – keep posting those pictures of cats!!!! Love them. Oh, that panda is right on!

    Faye
    – I would be out of there so fast you could see the smoke behind me! Please, please, please stay safe. Evacuate if you have to. Just because there is a fire station doesn’t necessarily mean you are safe. I bet the place is deserted. Update: so glad the fires are out. But if they happen again (please God no)…..

    Swan
    – Barbara is right. We don’t exercise for nothing (we have broad shoulders to show it)

    Evelyn
    – what gorgeous grands

    M
    – sending good thoughts for your hand/arm

:) There are fires on the other side of the Puget Sound. It was beautiful on the patio at 6 PM but I could smell smoke at 1 AM when I took the dogs out. It is warm and windy and even smokier this morning. Jake has breathing issues and will stay indoors but I'll walk the dogs as usual. We are not in danger from the fires, we just have smoke.

Barbie thanks for sharing! I'm in Bellevue and we don't have smoke here that I can tell. It's that dry time of year where in California where I used to live it was common to have fires burning in southern California so we'd hear about them often.

So a lot of people are dealing with smoke and fires in their area. I wasn't aware of the numbers of fires around the country I guess - just used to fires reported in Calif but as I scan the messages here I see there's smoke in a lot of placed.

    Stay Safe Everyone!

I guess very few evacuated that were close to the fire because the wind switched and drove it toward an area where it was put out. The winds suddenly dropping to 15 mph helped. Also with all the smoke in the air and wind blowing heavy dust, every way out was shut down. The designated place for evacuees was closer and more dangerous than my location. I can't imagine spending the night in a high school gym packed with people. The last time I did that was in Ritzville, Wa. after St Helens blew. I was coming back from Spokane when travel was stopped and I exited at Ritzville. I was young then, but such a night I don't care to experience again.

After I posted last night they ask my immediate area to not evacuate until further notice. Some that panicked got into accidents on the highway out due to low almost no visibility. One of the accidents started a fire in that direction but it was stopped quickly because firetrucks coming in from another area were at the scene when it happened.

After I was evacuated four times over the years while living in the mountains, I learned to stay calm and think it out. My plan was if surrounded was to get in the middle of my green damp lawn, wearing all COTTON garments, turn on the sprinklers, cover myself completely with wet towels, and hope it moves fast enough that it doesn't suck up all the oxygen.

It would take very unusual conditions for a wildfire to get to me. My biggest worry was the wind blowing down power lines and starting fires in our area. This happened a few months back, but our quick response fire dept. had that fire out quickly. It burned an old guy shed down the block but that was it.

Honestly, I must admit that I was scared more last night than I have ever been in massive fires that burned 100 feet from my mountain cabin. It must be age. I was cursing Zek for moving last evening as his expertise as a long time fireman/paramedic would have been a real consolation to me. I think for the first time in my life, I would have just played the damsel in distress. I am tired of having to make tough decisions. He no doubts would have taken issue with the alert to evacuate when it should have been an alert to be ready to evacuate which they issued later. Apparently, someone questioned then on a premature alert that could have caused mass panic. It didn't and a few auto accidents were the only harm it caused. No one injured.

It was a cold night and now no wind and looks like a great day. I best get out and walk and shake out my sealegs from last evening's adventures.

Lanette: The wind arrived soon after the 6pm news of the fires in Central OR. We were able to get things tucked into safe places. Both of my potted Alberta Spruce trees were blown over during the night, but neither was damaged. I set them back up this morning and they seem to be okay. We have blue skies, but when I glance down river, it is still dark & smoky. I haven’t watched morning news yet. :flowerforyou:

Faye: I’m happy your place was safe, and the authorities rescued your terrified neighbor and took him someplace safe. :star:

Barbie: Thank goodness that you do not have fire. The smoke is more than bad for those with respiratory problems. Jake staying inside is a good plan. My DH will be doing the same if the air quality deteriorates. Right now we have beautiful blue skies but I looked down river and can see that it is still smokey a few miles downstream. :flowerforyou:

Charsuzy: Our wildfires started on an Indian Reservation in Central Oregon. There have been no fires near the part of Oregon where I live, but we had a very windy and smoky night. I thank Faye & local news for the heads-up last night. We took action quickly and put deck furniture in safe spots. Things are fine at our place this morning. There are brown, smoked filled clouds just a little way downstream from here. I can see them from my window. :noway:

Barbara: I’m sorry to hear that you’re feeling edgy today. I think you’re wise to get the trailer out and ready to go in case things get scary, but I hope you don’t have to leave your home.

So far, today is good. I hope it stays that way and gets better for people here in OR and other places that are dealing with fire.

Smoke smell, and the sound of the wind, woke me.

Flashback to Labor Day Weekend 2017 my first night in our new home.

Chetco Bar Fire evacuation postponed our move by a week. Heat, smoke and trailer tire trouble made us split up in Klamath Falls, with Joe driving the moving truck/trailer combo the northern route and overnighting at Myrtle Creek. The dogs and I took 199 and spent the first night in the house without him. It was 95 degrees and there was not a fan to be bought from Crescent City to Gold Beach. All our fans were in the truck with all our household goods.

Curled up on the floor with the dogs and cried myself to sleep.

Though the news says today's smoke is from “distant fires” Joe and I got the trailer ready to bug out.

    Feeling sad and edgy.

Meat: 10 ... maybe 15 ... whatever, I probably wouldn't eat it, but I would nibble at beef jerky.
    Toast: 2
    Coffee: A

I never realized how bad and what wildfires could do until I came to the southwest. Scary, dangerous things that seem to have a life of their own. My thoughts are with all of you.

Question for all of you. I have started 16/8 fasting or longer this past month, kept my calories below 1400 a day while doing lchf but my weight going up instead of down. Any suggestions? I really don’t want to undo all the hard work I did to goer to 145. I am now up to 157 and determined not to go any higher. HELP!!!

Pics of masks I made a ‘scoodle’ (hat with scarf built in), and what was gonna be a dishcloth but I’m going to turn into Afghan with leftover yarn.

    Evelyn-adorable grandkids

To all dealing with fires-sending you positive thoughts. Must be extremely scary but it seems you are all staying on top of it and using common sense. Hopefully they can get them under some sort of control. Having your back up plans is wise.

We had some decent thunderstorms last night but can’t complain with what the rest of the country is dealing with.

Work is going well today. Spent a couple of hours thinking through changing something and believe I have decided I don’t really need to make the changes. Sometimes figuring out what policy we need or don’t need is tough, especially when you want to make sure you get all possible assistance out to people. Have had two on line meetings today. The third will be church council tonight so my day will end the way it began!

Eating is back on track today, so hope it stays that way the rest of the day!

Back to work. Take care all,

I do a 18/6 or a 20/4. Doctors say there is a sweet spot for your own body. I have read that autophagy happens in 16-20 hot mark. That is when your body does housecleaning. I try to get to that spot a couple of times a week. I usually do a 12 noon to 4 p.m. Eating window. Then fast until noon the next day. Sometimes I open the window up at dinnertime and have something small. So then the next day is a 16 but that's life.👍. Fast On.

Rita - are you "clean fasting" - meaning nothing but black coffee or tea or plain water during your fasting period? That can make a difference.

You might want to check out Gin Stephens "Delay Don't Deny" http://www.ginstephens.com/ If you aren't familiar with it, she explains the concept of how flavors influence insulin which hangs onto fat a la Dr. Jason Fung's research (he has good videos on YouTube)

Also sometimes the weight goes up but the clothing sizes go down = body recomposition.

    Good luck!

    Hi all
Covid numbers still going up. Nearly all among young people who have forgotten about social distancing. I did mention to DH that he might prefer to Zoom with his elder daughter. She really hates Zoom, so I don't think that will happen, but warnings are all over the news. I thought if I mentioned the idea he would not feel guilty about entertaining the thought. I know he is having second thoughts. He will only meet outside if it does happen.

Delicious ragu tonight. Enough left for three more dinners. :D

I had my hair trimmed today. Everyone in mask and face shield. Temp taken. Hand washing. I also sanitised afterwards. It does feel so much better, but the bright lights of the salon showed how badly my roots need doing. :o Next week I think. I have a pack ready.

Thinking of all the fire affected people. <3 And sorry to hear about your arm, Machka. Reminds me of my leg which had lost all strength because of my knee problem. It barely functioned, but has now recovered with lots of hard work. It was a shock to realise how bad it had got!

Lots of love to you all,

    Today is Star Trek Day!

"The first episode of The Original Series aired on 8 September 1966. ... Interestingly, Star Trek was first seen in Canada, on the 6th of September — two days before the US got to see it."

Michele - I'm sorry you're having so much trouble getting your starter going! I started mine from a recipe in "The Breadman's Healthy Bread Book" by George Burnett. Every now and then if I forget to feed it often enough it gets a little puny, but I just overfeed it for a few days and it perks right up.

    Machka - Meat 2, toast 3, coffee A.

Rebecca - "I have read that autopsy happens in 16-20 hot mark." ??!! I'm not sure what that means, but I would prefer they wait until my body is done housekeeping before starting that...

My heart goes out to all of you who are close to the wildfires. Back when we lived in the mountains of New Mexico, we had to keep the RV loaded with everything we'd need to bug out. A few years back the Irish wolfhound community lost a couple and their dogs in a tragic incident of not getting out in time. We had only one road out, so I wanted us to be ready to leave if we were told to go. In the winter we stored some extra supplies in the RV in case we got snowed in, so it ended up being a combination guest room/escape pod/storage shed.

My husband is finally starting to recover from the massive oak mite attack he sustained a couple of weeks ago. He still has scabs all over his face and he's tired a lot, but overall he's so much better than he was early on! I am staying out from under oak trees in the fall from now on.

    Live long and prosper!

Hugs and good thoughts for those in pain (Kate UK - so sorry about your wrist!), as well as those too close to the fires... Horribly stressful, even when it's only smoke.

Spent the last couple days feeling like crap on a cracker and just had to stop pretty much everything, but feeling more myself today. Got back outside this morning and got the trimming and the mowing done. My Fitbit said 136 minutes, 1088 calories today, so I feel as if I accomplished something. Funny how quickly that gets to be a habit. I swear part of the reason I felt so awful was that I couldn't exercise.

Really hate falling apart physically in front of my husband--when they're nine years younger, you really don't want them to see you as "old," even when you are, I guess.

Chilling for the rest of the afternoon inside in the A/C. Feels like the 90s today, but the temperature will be slowly lowering each day as we head for the first day of fall... should be down into the high 70s by the equinox, woot! Unfortunately, though, it also brings pumpkin spice EVERYTHING to the stores in the U.S. While it smells wonderful, the taste is kinda gagworthy, and always too sweet.
