"Get to do"s and "chose well"sChose well: pooches down drive in am, twice, before livestreaming church,
Bonus: fruit and veg prep,
Get to do: get outside chores before it gets hot, take pics of car, test Bluetooth speaker so can do BB&B or T’ai Chi from voice recordings, type up ABN update form and addendum, Pilot tech support 5034447924 to link subscription and fix login, measure potential greenhouse space and distance to outlet, make experimental almond paste, declutter sideboard, practice new dances (Nothing but You, Shake it like that, Larger than Life, Here I Go Again/Mama Mia, Real Deal, Get it Right); make garlic almonds for Barb and Dan; prep potato area and raised beds for beets, carrots, parsley root, parsnips, radishes and sow; finish weeding drive, continue weeding flower bed, mulch flowerbed; invest another 10 minutes in prepping living trust, Freddie’s for complete series TDAP <$48, get Shingrix vaccine. Reward: inventory seeds, plan fall cool season garden, order replenishments, figure out where to plant naked lady bulbs, Tuesday: call Progressive adjuster,
Self Care September
6: focus on healthy choices: smoothie for breakfast, veggie and cheese tray for dinner, didn’t do resistance training or weights.
7: remember its ok to be not ok: cried a little on Tracie’s shoulder in a text, for the first time in awhile don’t feel like paying bills/filing/clearing papers off from desk.
Got the pooches down the drive before church, but then dinked around til it was too hot to weed, Having some discomfort in same old trouble area, from right shoulderblade down to armpit and up to neck. Small wonder since no Chiro or massage for the past month. Decided a reasonable balance between keeping Joe safe and the self-care needed to keep me functioning would be to return to monthly Chiro and massage. Meanwhile, Advil, hot tub and stretching will tide me over til next week’s appointments. T’ai Chi, BB&B, line dance, these I can all do at home by myself. Chiro and massage not so much.
Kate, so sorry to hear of your wrist and bruised face. Sending positive vibes for a “good” clean break with no surgery needed. Orthopedists are, imho, like physical therapists, the most cheerful of sadists. If you have an iPhone, can you speak posts into it?
Thanks Lisa! Doubt I could talk Joe into one, guess we’ll just have to wait for the rains and do another burn barrel full. I sure hope the friend of a friend was mistaken. Will keep looking, but noticed that Windex now advertises itself as “ammonia free” when it used to contain “Ammonia-D”.
Lanette, not sure how long Joe is limited, could be for the six weeks it takes to heal. Will ask at his next followup on Friday.
Machka your ideal travel situation sounds just right. I used to enjoy traveling alone, even overseas. Joe won’t fly or take a ship, so that’s out as I no longer desire to travel alone. After our last camping experience (too crowded, too noisy) our favorite travel destinations are down the highway 3 miles to the beach before sunrise, or across our parking area to the picnic table up under the trees.
Pip sounds like you found the ideal location!
Julie so glad your get away was overall restorative.
Katla picking up after horses? Really? OMG!
Welcome @diamonique2! Would you let us know what you’d like to be called and your general locale?
Barbie the grumpy kitty pic!
Tracey the little girl pics. What joy!
Rebecca the clan pics, but best is Athena Rose’s cute little butt!

OMG just opened the DDS’ estimate for if he has to replace the bridge when filling the cavity. $4700+. Thunk. That’s more than the water system upgrade we’ve postponed for the past year. Think I’ll ask him to estimate chances, and what would be downside to just not filling the cavity.
This doesn’t do it justice, but the wildfires make for some pretty sunsets:

My DH will be 80 in November and is very bummed about turning 80. It's a shame because he is active for his age and it seems so pointless he's bummed by something he has no control over. A month after he turns 80, I will turn 70 and I don't mind looking my age. I like my life and feel more comfortable in my skin as I get older.

You have a good outlook! I take a certain amount of comfort seeing my Mom's face in the mirror as I age. 💖💪😁🎶🎵

If I saw my mother's face in the mirror, I'd be rather startled .....

It was 113 in our area today- we are not used to this- another hot one tomorrow but hopefully not quite as hot as the last two days- Glad we have fans(only have air conditioners in the guys rooms- because of their electronics heat their rooms so bad)-
Almost 10PM and the fan is still going and the front and back door open
The good thing- the fires are now over 85% contained

Barbara: I have ridden in horse drawn carriages in two places—Central Park in NYC, and Victoria BC. In both places, there was a bag under the horses back side. When it pottied, the poop dropped into a bag that was tied on the traces. I need to double check that term. The horses were comfortable and the streets were poop free.

@auntiebk I started going to my osteopath in July I think. We both wear a mask and I presume he washes his hands between clients.2

Ok this is really a back to work week. several meetings and things to take care of, mails to read, calls to make, etc. some quite urgent. a truckload. Since I unexpectedly took the week off last week, that doesn't make it lighter. At present I don't regret the extra week off. Needed some more fun and exploration after such a challenging school year before facing the new one.
I tracked this morning. I had a rather calorific breakfast, instead of the usual cereal I had a sort of salad: banana, cake, seeds, almonds, a wee bit of gorgonzola, 1/4 small avocado, soy yogurt, protein powder, fruit sweetened jam. it was good.
I am dragging at home -was catching up on FB that I've been mostly off of all of august at least. I friend in her 40s got a major skin infection from swimming in freshwater.
also played spades online. not ideal way to start work week. better than some addictions.
I wanted to clean 1st but I'm gonna go for a walk, get a coffee and come back to work, clean, etc.
It's sometimes comforting to see people before starting work day, when living alone.

Did 35 minute Dance aerobic workout after morning meditation. Weather set for wet until about Wednesday (as per Windy.com).
DH is 74 on Saturday. We shall crack a bottle of Prosecco and have smoked salmon, steak and stir fry veg for dinner. He is fit, active, and healthy, but he does have thyroid/prostate issues. He does feel his age at times, but is philosophical about the aging process. He shares my view that keeping active is important, which means he is in tune with my efforts.
Kate: Ouch! Hope your wrist mends quickly
Machka: Ideal Travel Situation:
Large Self-catered house with mod cons, and Sea views, big enough for family, on the outskirts of a small coastal town or village with nearby shop(s), bar/restaurant, a good body-boarding beach, lots of scenic walks close by, And good weather. Basically our annual family beach holiday on the West Coast of Ireland.
😍 All the photos
Rebecca: Fine looking family.
Time to move again, then have breakfast.
Later: 25 minutes interval walk/jog. 🚶♀️🏃♀️🚶♀️🏃♀️🚶♀️🏃♀️🚶♀️

SuziQ - This is the living room and dining room floors that we are having sanded. There are even more worn areas by the sofas.
After the sanding we are having the living room decorated in October.
DH has been thinking about his upcoming meet ups with friend and daughters and did not sleep well. He has now sent an email to his daughter explaining his thinking. We are on the same page, but he finds it more difficult to assert himself than I do. He has told them that he only wants to meet outdoors. Case numbers are going up and his daughters are mingling.
I explained to him that he cannot expect them to be as cautious as we are and it is up to us to draw our own red lines and not be swayed by other people thinking we are too cautious. I don't suppose they think of him as vulnerable as he always was super fit, but in the last year he is feeling his age. 75 next month.
He very much wants to see his elder daughter because she is selling up and moving to France before the end of the year.
It's all difficult and it bothers him to really tell them how affected he has been by his fall. Even the drive is daunting. I said they should make the effort to come and see their old dad down here, but he hates making a fuss.

So happy to find this group. You all sound so encouraging and positive. I am 63 yo. Not new to MFP. I previously lost 100 lbs on MFP during which time I spent most of last year sick and in hospital. Now that my health is improving my weight is creeping up - have put 10 lbs back on. I am so upset and sad I am doing this. I am restarting today and hope to lose 15 lbs to reach my final goal. I will try to not be a downer to the group and will try to be helpful to others. Send friend requests if you like - I could use all the help I can get lol9

Hello everyone.
It is so nice to have an extra day off this weekend. It has given me time to get some extra little projects done and having some me time. I was hoping to get to my community’s pool for a swim, but the mornings have been rainy. I prefer going early in the morning because the sun and heat are way too much here in SFL. Maybe next weekend.
Barbie – Your puppy looks so peaceful. One can always tell when pets have good moms and dads.
Pip – Love the trails near your home.
Barbara – No, no before and after pictures of my bedroom. I am moving things from room-to-room and the actual goal is to get rid most things and buy new. Part of my rearranging is to see how much I can live without. I still have the painting project going on upstairs (slowly but surely) so part of the bedroom project includes 2 other rooms. I have not put anything back up on the walls because I am also rearranging those too.
Kate – So sorry to hear your fall resulted in a broken wrist! Sending healing thoughts.
Julie and Machka – Thank you for sharing your trips with us.
Ginny – I love the idea of removing the trophy plates and framing them for presents.
Michelle – I have found ammonia gets rid of perspiration stains even after a clothing item has been dried. Especially cotton. Glad you had a nice visit with Ken and Lynette.
Lisa – I laugh every time I read “lemon” on the ammonia bottles too. I have not been able to find unscented here either.
Katla – I finally did an online yoga session. Here’s the link if you want to do a session at home. These are the “free” Yoga in the Park clips. Each is an hour long. I am not sure why they are not holding them since they are outdoors. Palm Beach County is moving into its next phase so hopefully the classes start up again. They were a great Saturday morning activity for me. And, nothing beats yoga outdoors in the park. I am putting the link in a spoiler….
Rita – So happy your neighbors/friends were able to pull DH out of his funk. Great picture.
Faye – I love the solar/pedal recumbent pedal car!
Rebecca – Athena sighting. What a great idea putting rubber tires on the car. Beautiful family pictures. Thank you for sharing!
Tracey – Beautiful pictures of the girls. Warmed my heart.
Lisa – Most work mornings I take a ride to the local market just to see people prior to logging in to work. It is a comfort seeing people before logging in.
Heather – I love all of the natural light in your home. You are going to be so happy once the floors are done – I can feel it! I think most children think their parents are the same super people they were when they were younger. Happy Johnny asserted himself with an outdoor meet versus an indoor one. I am sending strength to him to explain to them it would be easier for him if they traveled closer to your local.
The outdoor orchid continues to amaze. These pictures were taken yesterday.
The time has certainly flown by and I must get started on my day. I will finish up with my meal planning/preparations for the work week (only 4 days yeah!).
Hugs to all.
SuziQ – SFL

Did Dressed Up Drills DVD today. It seems that this DVD is basically the same thing but different lengths of workouts. The plan for tomorrow is to do a body pump video
Rebecca – we were just talking about this last night! It grates on my nerves to hear a radio announcer or someone who works with the public say something like “my family and me went to vote today”. Now I’m a little bit more forgiving when it comes to grammar or punctuation, but not Vince!
Decongestant really helped with the dizziness yesterday so I figured “guess it reduced the sinuses enough” so I didn’t take one last night. Got up this am and had a little bit of dizziness, not as much as yesterday, so took another decongestant.
Starter update: still little activity. Unfortunately, Fed Ex screwed up and sent my starter to Ohio so it wasn’t delivered yesterday and I bet it won’t get delivered today since it’s a holiday. Boo…I’ll have to wait until tomorrow.
Bananas – I’m sure your osteopath washes his hands
Terri – happy birthday to your dh
Throughout our house we have light wood floors. I really wish there was something I could put on the floors that would prevent water spots from showing up. I get sick and tired of cleaning the wood every couple of months just to get rid of these water spots
Swan – welcome. I’m so sorry you were in the hospital. You will get that weight off, that’s for sure. It will just take a while, but don’t give up (hard as that is)
Think we’re going to Jess’ storage unit to put things in it.
I want to run this by Vince to see if he thinks Ken would like it for Christmas, but I was thinking maybe I’d make him a latch hook with a music note on it and frame it.

My grammar mistake It wasn't that I had made a grammar mistake, but rather that the words have such a different meaning. One might wonder what is Faye going to "peddle" in that pedal car? I had to clarify because I am not that kind of girl. LOL!

Love the pics of Sasha and the cat!
Heather
Your sun room is so bright and airy. Know you enjoy it. And, even if the floors don’t get sanded, they have a really nice shabby chic appeal. The pics of your grands are fun to watch.
Kate
Healing thoughts for your wrist and bruises.
Kim, Debby, & Others
The news keeps up a steady stream regarding the California fires. Prayers for the safety of you all.
Barbara
Hope Joe’s feeling some relief from having the straw inserted to reduce pressure. But, know it must be horribly uncomfortable.
Julie
Know you enjoyed your holiday time and seeing friends.
Tracey
Such cute little girls. Agree that the photo of them running across the lawn holding hands is precious.
Rebecca
You have a handsome family. All the men look so much alike it is amazing.
Welcome to all who come here to chat!
Enjoying a few days of cooler weather here with low humidity! Just the weather I like!

Apologies to any new people who have asked me to be a Friend. I'm not doing Friends right now as I'm very busy on here, where everyone is a friend!
Went for my 5k run. A bit breezy, but otherwise pretty perfect. My back was a bit achy, but I persevered. We stopped off at the deli on the way home for milk and veg. I'm cooking mushroom risotto tonight with green salad and tomorrow is ragu, tagliatelle and broccoli. The next day is lamb tagine.
On my YouTube French video today they taught us "j'ai perdu le nord" . It means literally, I have lost the north. It means you don't know where you are, what you are doing, or, what way is up.
Thought it was very appropriate for the way so many of us are feeling at the moment.

I'm not talking to myself
I'm just thinking out loud
It's acceptable now you see
With cell phones and such
Hidden memories buried
In the recesses of my mind
Exhumed without warrant
Spout forth intense as a geyser
Vocalized without rhyme or reason
Baffling listeners ears myself included
Forgotten events now carved in stone
Bleached bones now flesh-covered
Pay me no mind or mental concern
The cobwebs of my mind carefully woven
Appear as tangled encoded twisted nonsense
Crystal clearly defined in the eye of my mind
So as I babble on with laughter laced tears
Straight talk requiring no white binding jacket
Dismiss the crowd, I'm just thinking out loud
Advanced year's discourse; not talking to myself

Kate UK: So sorry for your injury. :flowerforyou:
Heather: I love the view through your windows and doors to the back yard. Charming! No wonder you decided to buy the place. Re the visit with adult children—We are staying home until it is safe to travel. We hope to visit our adult children when the pandemic wanes & disappears. We are safest at home. DH’s autoimmune system is poor. He has Diabetes and MS. :ohwell:
Swan57: Welcome! Post often so that we can get to know one another.
SuziQ: Thanks for the yoga link!!!!
Machka: I love your photos. Beautiful.
Our air quality is questionable this morning. It seems to be a mix of light fog and smoke. I wish/hope I’m wrong about the smoke. There is an air quality advisory for parts of southern and central OR due to wildfires. I see haze here, and suspect our friends across the river in WA will be seeing it, too, if they haven’t noticed already.

Rebecca - I cringe at some posts on FB for spelling and grammar errors, but like you remain quiet. I don’t understand people that have to comment and embarrass the person. I am not perfect when it comes to grammar and I hate when people (usually DH) points it out. You never know how someone has struggled to learn. I have some brilliant friends that struggle terribly writing. I honestly don’t remember any of the rules for punctuation, sentence structure, etc.
Barbara - how blessed you are to enjoy your neighbourhood so much.
I have been extremely homesick for the country since my daughter and son in law bought their little piece of heaven. Thankfully, I am welcome anytime to go enjoy it.
I don’t know how dentists can be so expensive and why more isn’t covered under benefit plans. It’s insane and people need their teeth, I don’t think it’s just vanity.
Debbie - I can’t imagine that heat. I read a news article this morning that one fire in California has been deemed started at a gender reveal party. The pyrotechnics set it off.
Katla - you talking about a horse drawn carriage ride reminded me of taking a ride with my parents in 2008 in Old Montreal. What a blessing that little work trip was. I believe they had the bags too.
Heather - I’m happy to read hubby is speaking up. I think his daughters should do the travelling, they expect a lot of him it seems.
Machka - I have read some studies that suggest multitasking isn’t all it was hyped up to be in the past. I can’t do it anymore really. I find it harder to do as I age.
This three day weekend seemed to have flown by, I have to go get some groceries and do some laundry today.
I received the quote yesterday for the car repair, 1700.00 not as bad as I was expecting but still pretty far out of reach. It’s been a rough few years and I’m tired of the struggle.
It has been since 2014 that DH has had a year round full time job. It’s time for a change.
I have to order a birthday present for our Grandson today. I am struggling to figure out what to get him. We are having a very small gathering here for him next Saturday the only guests are our youngest daughter and his paternal grandparents. We are doing it at our house because they do not have outdoor space for it.
Well off to start some chores. Have a great day everyone.

Greetings from the Caregiver Cave. J'ai perdu le nord, le sud and all points in between!
Home Health Aide, Mary S. started last week. She is a Occupational Therapist by training, with over 30 years experience working with all age groups. Covid caused her to lose last job, and she now wants to work exclusively with seniors and veterans. I think she is a good fit for our household and especially DH as long as she gives him time and space to get used to her. She wears a mask the entire two hours every afternoon she is here, and has a lively, fun laugh. She brought over some kale grown in her massive garden, and DH helped her make kale chips while I laid down to rest a painful knee and foot. Today I think they are doing a simple craft. I will remain close and gradually ease out of the house for longer periods while she is here. He does like her and usually gives her a hug.
DB got Medicaid approval and card! This means he can now schedule appointment with highly recommended hepatologist and begin to more fully address his health issues. 🙏
The foot I fractured last year is hurting alot, so I have put the boot back on and stopped all non-essential, weight bearing exercise. It's misery trying to keep to MFP limit of 1250 calories. The scale is not my friend at the moment, but I just have to suck it up.
Heather: I just went through getting new floors installed in two rooms. It was well worth the upheaval, and I know that you will be super delighted with the results of your home improvements.
Michele: I think you are making a good decision to eliminate visits to less than optimal gyms. I know your basement workout room is fabulous and you always manage to get in great workouts. Please do some laps in your pool for me. I haven't been to ours in months, and it will be closed down pretty soon. Wah 😢
Kate UK: Oweeee! Hope that wrist heals up quickly.
Pip: How close are you to the big fires?
Loving all the pix of travels, homes, gardens and grands! You are a wonderful circle of friends, and I treasure you.
Stay well. We can do this.
