Today my husband and I went to our local physiotherapist organisation ... it's a group of physiotherapists who specialise in different types of physiotherapy. They also run physio-led pilates classes which we used to attend.

My husband got checked for his vestibular issues by a physiotherapist who specialises in vestibular issues. He's not too bad but does have some neck and shoulder issues.

I got checked by a different physiotherapist who specialises in joint and muscle issues. I have been having increasing right elbow and arm pain and a decrease in strength.

Feb 11, 2020 - I tripped and fell hard on my right elbow ... slammed it into a hard wood counter thing with most of my weight on it. I was in pain for a good 8 weeks.

March 30, 2020 - started working from home which was not 100% ergonomic. I was also taking 2 uni courses while working full time, so I was on my computer from 9 am to about midnight 5 days a week and only slightly less on the weekend.

Even though I'm working from the office now which is more ergonomic, I'm still on the computer the vast majority of the day. Still taking 1 uni course, working full time and doing other computer-related projects.

Now I have been diagnosed with tennis elbow!

My physio got me to do a grip test with the top of my arm along my body and forearm forward (elbow bent 90 degrees)

    Non-dominant hand (left): 30 kg! (66 lbs) That's great! :)
Dominant hand (right): 17 kg (37 lbs) ... well down on normal.

Then she got me to do the grip test with my arms straight out in front of me. She warned me that it would be less than the test with elbows bent 90 degrees.

Non-dominant hand (left): 24 kg (53 lbs) Not bad.
    Dominant hand (right): ...............
    ....................... well ... um ................ 2 kg (4.4 lbs). Essentially, I couldn't do it.

    https://www.livestrong.com/article/468905-hand-grip-strength-test/
The following are grip strength norms for females, measured in pounds:
    Ages 50-54: Right 53.9-77.4; Left 46.6-68
    Ages 55-59: Right 44.8-69.8; Left 35.4-59.2
    Ages 60-64: Right 45-65.2; Left 35.6-55.8
    Ages 65-69: Right 39.9-59.3; Left 32.8-49.2
    Ages 70-74: Right 37.9-61.3; Left 31.3-51.7
    Ages 75+: Right 31.6-53.6; Left 28.7-46.5

I'm taped up and have some very light exercises to do.

Machka: I had the same problem with my elbow after I had the fall in Croatia last May. It responded well to the physio, but it took a couple of months. But you’re much younger than I am, so it will probably not take as long for you.

Faye - my word! Glad the fires are out, and hope they stay out. Very much agree about living in a neat community like you do, and how folks pull together. Hard to beat that feeling of safety and security.

Katla - is the wind still whipping down the Columbia Gorge or where it's hailing from? Glad you found your BBQ cover!

It was pretty smoky here yesterday afternoon and evening, right now there's a cool breeze blowing from the east, hardly any smoke, so I have a few windows open.

Did a body pump DVD today. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Biggest Loser Boot Camp DVD

Pip – you don’t drink water when you’re cycling???? Whenever I do a spinning workout, I always go thru at least 24oz of water, sometimes more

    Rebecca
    – keep posting those pictures of cats!!!! Love them. Oh, that panda is right on!

    Faye
    – I would be out of there so fast you could see the smoke behind me! Please, please, please stay safe. Evacuate if you have to. Just because there is a fire station doesn’t necessarily mean you are safe. I bet the place is deserted. Update: so glad the fires are out. But if they happen again (please God no)…..

    Swan
    – Barbara is right. We don’t exercise for nothing (we have broad shoulders to show it)

    Evelyn
    – what gorgeous grands

    M
    – sending good thoughts for your hand/arm

:) There are fires on the other side of the Puget Sound. It was beautiful on the patio at 6 PM but I could smell smoke at 1 AM when I took the dogs out. It is warm and windy and even smokier this morning. Jake has breathing issues and will stay indoors but I'll walk the dogs as usual. We are not in danger from the fires, we just have smoke.

Barbie thanks for sharing! I'm in Bellevue and we don't have smoke here that I can tell. It's that dry time of year where in California where I used to live it was common to have fires burning in southern California so we'd hear about them often.

So a lot of people are dealing with smoke and fires in their area. I wasn't aware of the numbers of fires around the country I guess - just used to fires reported in Calif but as I scan the messages here I see there's smoke in a lot of placed.

    Stay Safe Everyone!

I guess very few evacuated that were close to the fire because the wind switched and drove it toward an area where it was put out. The winds suddenly dropping to 15 mph helped. Also with all the smoke in the air and wind blowing heavy dust, every way out was shut down. The designated place for evacuees was closer and more dangerous than my location. I can't imagine spending the night in a high school gym packed with people. The last time I did that was in Ritzville, Wa. after St Helens blew. I was coming back from Spokane when travel was stopped and I exited at Ritzville. I was young then, but such a night I don't care to experience again.

After I posted last night they ask my immediate area to not evacuate until further notice. Some that panicked got into accidents on the highway out due to low almost no visibility. One of the accidents started a fire in that direction but it was stopped quickly because firetrucks coming in from another area were at the scene when it happened.

After I was evacuated four times over the years while living in the mountains, I learned to stay calm and think it out. My plan was if surrounded was to get in the middle of my green damp lawn, wearing all COTTON garments, turn on the sprinklers, cover myself completely with wet towels, and hope it moves fast enough that it doesn't suck up all the oxygen.

It would take very unusual conditions for a wildfire to get to me. My biggest worry was the wind blowing down power lines and starting fires in our area. This happened a few months back, but our quick response fire dept. had that fire out quickly. It burned an old guy shed down the block but that was it.

Honestly, I must admit that I was scared more last night than I have ever been in massive fires that burned 100 feet from my mountain cabin. It must be age. I was cursing Zek for moving last evening as his expertise as a long time fireman/paramedic would have been a real consolation to me. I think for the first time in my life, I would have just played the damsel in distress. I am tired of having to make tough decisions. He no doubts would have taken issue with the alert to evacuate when it should have been an alert to be ready to evacuate which they issued later. Apparently, someone questioned then on a premature alert that could have caused mass panic. It didn't and a few auto accidents were the only harm it caused. No one injured.

It was a cold night and now no wind and looks like a great day. I best get out and walk and shake out my sealegs from last evening's adventures.

Lanette: The wind arrived soon after the 6pm news of the fires in Central OR. We were able to get things tucked into safe places. Both of my potted Alberta Spruce trees were blown over during the night, but neither was damaged. I set them back up this morning and they seem to be okay. We have blue skies, but when I glance down river, it is still dark & smoky. I haven’t watched morning news yet. :flowerforyou:

Faye: I’m happy your place was safe, and the authorities rescued your terrified neighbor and took him someplace safe. :star:

Barbie: Thank goodness that you do not have fire. The smoke is more than bad for those with respiratory problems. Jake staying inside is a good plan. My DH will be doing the same if the air quality deteriorates. Right now we have beautiful blue skies but I looked down river and can see that it is still smokey a few miles downstream. :flowerforyou:

Charsuzy: Our wildfires started on an Indian Reservation in Central Oregon. There have been no fires near the part of Oregon where I live, but we had a very windy and smoky night. I thank Faye & local news for the heads-up last night. We took action quickly and put deck furniture in safe spots. Things are fine at our place this morning. There are brown, smoked filled clouds just a little way downstream from here. I can see them from my window. :noway:

Barbara: I’m sorry to hear that you’re feeling edgy today. I think you’re wise to get the trailer out and ready to go in case things get scary, but I hope you don’t have to leave your home.

So far, today is good. I hope it stays that way and gets better for people here in OR and other places that are dealing with fire.

Smoke smell, and the sound of the wind, woke me.

Flashback to Labor Day Weekend 2017 my first night in our new home.

Chetco Bar Fire evacuation postponed our move by a week. Heat, smoke and trailer tire trouble made us split up in Klamath Falls, with Joe driving the moving truck/trailer combo the northern route and overnighting at Myrtle Creek. The dogs and I took 199 and spent the first night in the house without him. It was 95 degrees and there was not a fan to be bought from Crescent City to Gold Beach. All our fans were in the truck with all our household goods.

Curled up on the floor with the dogs and cried myself to sleep.

Though the news says today's smoke is from “distant fires” Joe and I got the trailer ready to bug out.

    Feeling sad and edgy.
