so, I was online at Kaiser(medical) and decided to see about an appointment with gyn.dr. for PAP-
these are the options-
phone appointment
video appointment
would be great and a lot less painful to do it that way IF they could-
just made me laugh at the thought.
Then the bottom of the page said to call in for in person appointments- they can not be done online.

I really need to read, reread and reread this and then sit down and have a chat with husband- did a few years ago but nothing changed. Need to try again.
THANK YOU4 -
Allie: I hope you’re able to take the washer/dryer back without any troubles.
Debbie: I’m so sorry for your poor air quality situation. Ours seems to be getting worse as the day goes along. :ohwell:
DH & I are staying indoors for the next while. We got our shopping done and are staying inside as much as possible. We stopped at our favorite grocery store just in time to see the head cashier close and lock the doors. This store has roll up overhead doors for customers and the air quality was too poor for the staff to stay, so they closed the roll up doors, locked everything up and went home. I imagine the store owner will be unhappy, but the head cashier did the right thing for the health and welfare of the employees and also the customers. We went to one of the other stores in town to get our shopping done. All of the other stores in town have doors that open and close as needed.

Heather – your floors look lovely. What type of treatment did they use on them? I guess I was thinking there would be a stain or varnish, but if they are putting furniture back the same day they must have not needed to dry.
Machka-I like your assignment countdown!
Lisa-I am following your digestive issues with interest. A couple of weeks ago I had fairly bad pain in gall bladder area. When I went to doctor for my regular bloodwork he pushed around and I pretty much hit the ceiling. He sent me for ultrasound-didn’t show anything. Meanwhile, it felt like my digestive track was doing the wave. Had been told a number of years ago I had a spastic colon, took bentyl for awhile and then without problems, didn’t give it much thought. Got a new script for bentyl called in and started new probiotic and seems to be improving.
SIL called me a couple of days ago. One of her dogs (her favorite, an 11 year old pug) made an escape through a hole in the fence and took off. She has a nearly 5 acres lot behind her house that is overgrown with grass this time of year. Neighbors helped look but no sign of her. There are coyotes out there. We have her posted on a lost and found facebook page but so far no calls. SIL is very devoted to her animals. She never married or had children so they are her babies.
Finally made it to gym today-too many work meetings this week to keep up my regular schedule. Felt good to move.
Off to watch a bit of tv and unwind tonight.
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio

Ginny - They put down one prep coat and two silk varnish coats. They polished between the two coats. Apparently the varnish takes about 45 mins to dry per coat! We were told to let it alone to harden for the night, but the heavy stuff went back on felt pads. They sat in the garden while it dried.
It's all a bit different to when we used to DIY in the old days. I remember clouds of dust and waiting ages for the varnish to dry! There honestly was not a speck of dust.
Excited now to get the painting done. DH seems to be up for spending a bit on the house. He can't get any interest on his savings and we are not spending any money on going out/holidays. I'm treading gently, but it's a nice change.

Well ive been home and relaxing....nephew coming tomorrow... Polish lady nervous about doing insulin so i might end up going up in the am to do it1 -
Katla: Faye is hunkered down at home with her AC running as the air quality is not good we’re she is.
I watch the Democracy Now news channel each night, and tonight saw the devastation that the fires are causing. I am praying for the safety of anyone who lives on the Pacific Rim. It’s a frightening thing to see on TV, so I can’t imagine what those living through it are feeling.

PS: Faye is not able to access Community at the moment. Tech Support say that others are having problems, and they are working on it. MFP must be doing an ‘upgrade’.

Did 10 Minute Solution Carb Burner DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Lower Body Pilates DVD
Went to the dermatologist today. He froze two spots off (one he did because it eventually would start hurting so really more of preventive). But he did say that everything looks good
Fed my starter today. I’m not sure, it might have risen some.
Evelyn – many times Vince is that way, too. If I start something, he’ll then do it “because I would do it this way or that way”. His OCD kicking in again. Oh well…at least it gets done
Katla – I’m so looking forward to trying my first loaf of sourdough. Believe me, I’ll give it a while to double before I make it. If you call BRM, they will send you coupons for their products
You know, I said to Vince back in June that we should do digging and putting down rock in the front yard before it gets too hot for him to work outside. He said “oh, I can work in the heat”. Well, at my insistence, we started today and what did he say? “I don’t know how much more of this I can do and not get heat stroke”. “You said you can work in the heat”. “Oh, I can, IF the temperature was 10 degrees cooler”. I was about to say “that’s why I wanted to do it in June” but thought better of it. He asked me to tell him what I was going to say so I did. Then I just dropped it. I went in the pool and Vince worked on his computer. We went back out and finished one side of the drainpipe. Vince said “I’m old”. So I just told him “you’re not that much older than me” (one year). He said “it’ll be weeks before we can do the other side” “why” “well, we have things to do, Monday is bowling, you’re working, Thursday I have a MD appointment” “well, we’re not doing anything on Tuesday, and we can do it after I work on Wednesday.” Honestly!
Heather – your floors look really nice.
Thinking of everyone dealing with poor air quality.
Hear ye, hear ye…it looked like my starter doubled in size and IT PASSED THE FLOAT TEST!!!!
Need to work tomorrow, then want to go with Vince to hopefully get the rocks, not sure when I can bake the bread, but I’m so so happy
I’m thinking that I may have to skip exercise tomorrow. There’s no way I can do it before work and when I get home I’m hoping to help Vince get the stone. To me, that is more important. He’s going to a gun show and I don’t know how long he’ll be gone. If he’s gone when I get back from work, maybe I can exercise. We shall see.

Who is thinking maybe tomorrow night she’ll make the bread – or Sunday

It's finally working!!!
Smoke is really bad here and coming from all directions and hanging in here. All windows sealed and the AC fan on constantly. I haven't gone out since morning. The smoke rolled in in minutes. No near fire warning just air quality dangerous. It looks like it is bad all over the west. I have a friend staying until the smoke clears as she has lung issues and uses an inhaler, but should she go down, I didn't want her alone and maybe unable to call 911. My nose and eyes are burning even in my tight sealed house.
I will try to read old posts all 125 of them soon. My friend has me doing word puzzles with her on her Ipad and she does tournaments and wins many of them. The dryer buzzer indicates the last load is dry.
Please be safe to the many of you in fire and smoke danger. Many of you have it much worse than here and here isn't healthy. At least it is cool today that helps lower fire danger.
Photo from a friend in Salem surrounded by fires yesterday, but safe except for the smoke. A couple of small rural towns near her burned down totally. They were burning when she got this photo of the glow the mass fires created mainly from Talent, Oregon. Scary!

Heather - your floors look beautiful!
Your DIL gives great advice. I’m happy for you that DH is loosening the purse strings a bit for home improvements. That is where I would spend a lot of my money of I could because I spend most of my time here I feel I might as well enjoy it more.
Debbie - I hope you have better luck with your husband this time.
Karen - have you seen the movie/documentary about Gander and 9/11? It’s very interesting and there is a musical.
Quiet but busy day at work, such a difference when the boss is away, people are actually happy.
Tomorrow is my Grandsons party at our house, I bought a Happy Birthday banner and three small balloons. That will have to do for this year.
I need to do a massive cleaning in the morning. I was lazy last weekend after my sleepover and didn’t dust, scrub and clean the bathroom like I usually do.
I don’t know if I said or not, we received the quote for the car repair it’s $1700. I checked my RRSP and I have 1400 available to me so I’ve asked for that to be withdrawn again. I used the last bit in there for the trailer levelling. This is why I’ll be retiring at noon on the day of my funeral. I guess at least I have a way of paying for these big repair bills.

Keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that I am done with errands for the day. I’m tired of being the “gofor.”
Heather: Your DDIL is an excellent advisor. :flowerforyou:
I’ve been wondering why we haven’t heard from Faye lately. I looked and the air quality in her area is very poor. I hope she is okay.
According to my close friend, Siri, the air quality index in my town is currently 280, and is very unhealthy. :grumble: The air quality inside my home is much better. We have our air filtering system turned on and it helps.
I just had a wonderful telephone conversation with my daughter. She is touching bases with us and other friends in the Portland, OR area. Our state, along with Washington & others, is in the national news due to the fires.

Katla The say the AQI here is 405.1
-
Faetta:
An AQI of 405 sounds very bad. How are you taking care of yourself? DH just checked and the AQI here is 235, which is bad enough. We are inside, doors & windows closed except when I let the dog off the deck to do his business. We’re filtering our air with the HVAC. Inside is good enough. Outside, not okay for anyone who breathes oxygen. I suspect the fish in the river are doing okay. There hasn’t been a fisherman out there that I’ve seen today.

Ladies, Carol also has been having problems getting onto this site. Now that Faye is able to log in, hopefully she can too. I know she misses us!
Heather - love those floors. When did you say the house was built?
We are getting the smoke coming up from Oregon, air quality is around 160. We have the house sealed up but some smoke is creeping in, I know, similar to Faye's. I wrap a wet bandanna around my nose & mouth when I go out with the dogs which helps.
Good friends from our former sheep life have a farm down by Eugene, Oregon, and are getting ready to evacuate. They've already moved their 70 head of sheep to another farm in a safe area, and are now trying to figure out/load household possessions as mandatory evacuation could be imminent. We haven't heard from them since this morning and I see another fire has popped up about 4 miles from their place overnight.
I can't imagine losing the house, barn full of hay, other outbuildings. Knowing them, they are likely at other neighbors helping load livestock and equipment. Their air quality was 596 = hazardous when I checked a few minutes ago.
The good news is they have a large family, very loving and helpful, and whatever happens, they will be OK.
Heavy fog this morning, and actually not very smoky - I think the smoke was attaching to water vapor. Around noon, the smoke proper socked us in.
AND the latest long-range weather forecast for Washington State is we are heading into a La Nina - wetter and colder, windier winter. The last one I recall with major impact was December 2007 when we were hit with a 500 year flood. Not ready for anything that dramatic but after all we've been though in 2020, it wouldn't surprise me.
On another note, I signed up for PBS/Masterpiece on Amazon Prime, and am watching a Belgian crime drama called "Professor T". It's quite good, thank goodness for subtitles.
Tired so closing for now. Stay safe and healthy, ladies!

"Get to do"s and "chose well"sChose well: vacuumed and cleaned for an hour, typed up ABN update form and addendum, board meeting, pooches down drive in am Thursday, minutes.
Bonus: another load laundry, mat raked Tumble while listening to TV.
Get to do: mail ABN amendment, recycling, get outside chores before it gets hot, take pics of car, test Bluetooth speaker so can do BB&B or T’ai Chi from voice recordings, Pilot tech support 5034447924 to link subscription and fix login, measure potential greenhouse space and distance to outlet, make experimental almond paste, declutter sideboard, practice new dances (Nothing but You, Shake it like that, Larger than Life, Here I Go Again/Mama Mia, Real Deal, Get it Right); make garlic almonds for Barb and Dan; prep potato area and raised beds for beets, carrots, parsley root, parsnips, radishes and sow; finish weeding drive, continue weeding flower bed, mulch flowerbed; invest another 10 minutes in prepping living trust, Freddie’s for complete series TDAP <$48, get Shingrix vaccine. Reward: inventory seeds, plan fall cool season garden, order replenishments, figure out where to plant naked lady bulbs, Tuesday: call Progressive adjuster,
Self Care September
8: notice what you do well today, no matter how small: laundry, I separate laundry well, and wash dishes, and feed the dogs ;} oh and paperwork, I’m GOOD at typing and paperwork
9: avoid the “I shoulds”: hard to do when I so overindulged
10: grant yourself the permission to say “no” to others: fluffed this one. Instead gave the gift of listening to a fellow board member for an hour. Glad I did, hopeful some fences mended.
11: aim to be good enough, not perfect: good advice for today, nudge CI<CO back in the right direction.
Fine particles of ash doing their danse macabre in the orange light. Angry sky turning our paradise into Hades. Plague of gnats. Hazardous air quality. TV meteorologist commenting on the Coast’s webcam view, called it “apocalyptic.”
Surgeon’s facility is under a level 3 “go now” evacuation order as are towns (Gasquet CA and O’Brien OR) along our route. Highway 199 closed. Joe’s follow up appointment shifted to his original eye doctor’s facility in Crescent City for pressure check, but as Dr. E is out of town, Surgeon will be teleconferencing with an associate new to us. You don’t want to hear about the back and forth telephone calls. Really. The good news is that the 500 mg extended release pills prescribed for last Friday have come in. Oh and Surgeon’s facility has been reduced to level 2 “Be set (to go).” The really good news is that his pressure is down to 23 from 56 two weeks ago. Thankful!
Some relief, Thursday was 30 degrees cooler than Wednesday, but still smoky and ashy. As we have no A/C, our air filter is a damp washcloth.
Lanette, better the ghost pirate ship than “earthquake weather”
Welcome @RedSheSaid Red in IL! I make YouTube playlists too, unfortunately I spend more time making them than actually dancing to them
Kay, “Holy kitten” is right. Joe’s surgeon thinks the micro stent didn’t work due to scar tissue from 3 previous laser treatments. So far he’s been able to manage the pressure pain with Advil, and some days aspirin. The smoky, ashy air is not helping. He’s spending most of the day on the couch, with his face covered by a damp washcloth. 13K steps after surgery! Tell your DH “Well Done” from us!
Beth likewise I’ve taken for granted all Joe does for us, especially the heavy lifting. Now that he’s forbidden to lift more than 5 lbs, what an eye opener! Praying for your friend. Later edit “…gave her hell…. not dying today.” Brava for giving her that blast on your angel trumpet. Bravissima!
Barbie “…beloved possession”
Rita that is one lucky cat, to survive snake bite and to have you to care for it. Spray showering the cat 3 times/day? You are truly an angel! If anyone can make salt cedar look good, it’s you!
Lisa what you said about expectations. If I want to spare myself the poison of angry frustration, it helps me to shift my expectations away from others. Joe is able to manage his pressure pain with aspirin or an occasional Advil. He’ll call me after today’s pressure check with the number, he is positively thinking that pressure will be down and he won’t have to go back to Medford for awhile. I’m smiling and saying “Wouldn’t that be great” while inside I’m preparing for an emergency trip to Medford Monday or Tuesday. Brava for tiptoeing towards improvement. Please don’t ignore or downplay your internal signals in trying to be less “self-absorbed”.
Karen in VA “the hearse doesn’t stop at the bank”. Thud. Thanks!
Katla your horse fostering friends are angels indeed. Some of the most heartbreaking pictures on the news are the barns and stables burnt-to-the-ground.
SuziQ what you said about 5 days of work in a 4 days. Takes some of the joy out of 3 day weekends.
Allie “Jean… left Faith alone” from 3:30 am til when you got there at 7:30? :noway: I’m sorry allie, but that sounds like elder abuse to me. Does Faith have any other blood relatives besides Jean who could advocate for her?
Rebecca, I think your eyes are more beautiful than Myrna’s, but maybe it’s the “come hither look” you were wishing for?
Yvonne “…blame my lost motivation on the Large Hadron Collector…” me too!
Evelyn, Terri and Faye likewise I could not connect to the community page from my laptop, using Waterfox, Firefox or even [shudder] Microsoft Edge, so read from my phone. Had to wait til my Windows 10 laptop could connect to post this
Machka ONE assignment to go? You’ve worked so hard. May you thoroughly enjoy your success and following respite. Bravissima!
Heather Lovely floor! Thanks for sharing your DDIL’s wisdom.
Barbie I’m sitting here alone in the house laughing out loud til the tears squeeze out. “…pick it up…” indeed!
Debbie I’m really laughing at the phone or video appointment options.
Ginny saying a prayer for your SIL and her dog.
Michele so happy to hear your starter started! Hoorayy!!!
Faye, like you, we’re choking on smoke but somewhat safe from the fires. And at last able to post to community thread from my laptop. Halelujah!
Just had a surprise FaceTime call from dear friends in Boise. Really lifted my spirits. That and the "check-ins" from friends and cousins via FB and email. Thank Goodness for technology.
Our AQI is a dangerous 451, “Any exposure to the air, even for a few minutes, can lead to serious health effects on everybody. Avoid outdoor activities. “ No wonder the dogs are unenthusiastic about going outside, my throat is scratchy and my head pounding. Retreating with aspirin and damp washcloth to bed.
Lighter, lovelies!

"Law enforcement officials who spoke to OPB said they have seen no evidence of antifa or any other vigilante groups starting fires.
Fire officials, however, have been clear about what is driving the fires. Those include a once-in-a-century windstorm that began early this week, high temperatures and downed power lines due to the wind.
Some fires have been caused by people, but those causes aren’t necessarily intentional or criminal."
Hanging in there. Air quality Index above 500 over the past couple days. It has dipped down to about 300 today, so that's better, but we are all advised to stay inside. Because my work is within commuting distance of the Santiam Fire, I have a number of colleagues and friends who have had to evacuate or who are planning to evacuate. One, that I know of, has lost his home.
Conspiracy theories as to the cause of the fires isn't helpful, but is actually emotionally demoralizing. We had wind gusts Monday into Tuesday morning of 60-80 mph. The Santiam Fire, which used to be the Beechie Creek Fire, until it merged with another fire (It is now threatening to merge with a third fire), has been burning for over two weeks, but it was being managed until the winds came up. Of course some fires are human caused, and maybe a small number of those are arsonists, but as the quote above says, the main reason is uncharacteristically higher temperatures, dry conditions (Mt. Hood has no snow on it, and it usually has some year round), and high winds, which caused power lines to come down and the fires to spread quickly.
It has been exhausting. Just exhausting.
This picture was taken about half a mile from my office, Tuesday morning or afternoon, I believe.
