Happy Wednesday Ladies!
I have just been a little lost ( as have a lot of us), overwhelmed, angry, tired, thankful, blessed, confused, trapped. I am in a better state of mind these days. I feel my next reading needs to be the last few months here, so that I can catch up with you all. While I wasn't here, I thought of you often! The relief I felt when I did log back on and see my ladies was immense.
I met my goal weight in time to go on vacation in September. Had a wonderful time in the mountains. I did NO work at all while gone. That is a first for me. Usually I have a couple of hours that I do. I decided anything pressing the rest of them would have to handle. In spite of the Covid, we had a blast.
It didn't take long when we got back for the $h** to hit the fan though. My eating went wrong. The stresses at work were overwhelming. Trying to catch up took forever. I am sure I left money on the table as far as warranty paperwork was concerned, but I am now finally caught up. I will say that even though I have gained some weight back, I am still going into 2021 2 pounds lighter than January of 2020. That was a nice positive.
I am trying hard to watch my attitude with husband's sister. She did finally get a business system in place for us! She told me that my input wasn't needed in choosing it. She refused to send me the training videos. She was determined to do it on her own. I finally figured out to just let her do it. The problem is she half does everything! There are still things that aren't in inventory, but I am fixing as I go. I really needed to have gone into work when we were closed over the holidays to get that up to par, but stayed home and worked on a cross-stitch project. I have learned lots on my own, and am figuring out things to make it easier for me every day. Learning process. The biggest downside at this point is that I don't have access at home. This will mean I am back at shop either early mornings or evenings come spring time. Hopefully things will begin to come together so that extra time will be limited as far as invoices go. I will still be able to do warranty and registrations from home. Learning curves!
November....Thanksgiving is MY holiday! This year I just couldn't get it together. I am so thankful my daughters stepped in. Sara (my Pyrenees) quit eating and was slow moving for 3 days before Thanksgiving. I was so upset, but she was at least 13 y/o. Apparently, she decided to give me more time with her. She ate 3 times on Thanksgiving day! Our Thanksgiving dinner was different as it was just our family, but turned out nice.
December.....my favorite part of Christmas are Christmas cards. I was ahead of the game before Thanksgiving in writing them, then hit a wall. I was worried about Sara. I did manage to get them out by the 20th. Sara took a turn for the worse again the middle of December. I had to make a decision and it wasn't easy. I spent the evening just loving on her on the 18th. I stayed home on the 19th and just loved on her before taking her to the vet. She was tired. It was the best decision I made for her, but still hard on me. She is buried in the backyard near Mandy. I am thankful that my husband was with me. He dug her hole and helped me through it. Some days I still look for her when I get home from work. Little things make me cry when I realize she isn't here. She really was my girl. Oh, just before Sara, my youngest daughter got Pneumonia and spent 3 days in the hospital. Yes, she tested positive for Covid so family was quarantined. She is well now, still tired. No one else got it. It was scary though. Our Christmas was quiet which worked for me. We actually closed the shop from Christmas eve until Monday. We got two three day weekends in a row. New Year's eve we went to dinner with friends early then home for the evening. Husband and I watched Ford vs Ferrari, rang in the new year, and went to bed. I was so full from dinner that I didn't even drink.
The cross stitch I am working on is for my youngest daughter and her husband. I never made them a wedding picture. They went to courthouse, marriage was ROCKY, and I just never found what I wanted. I finally found it and started it on vacation. I will have to figure again how to post a picture. It is almost done. I am excited to give it to them.
So now you are caught up with me. My word for 2021 is LIGHT. Not as in lighter, but as in being the light for others and myself. 2020 was full of blessings, but so dark a lot of the time. I want to be the LIGHT for 2021. I need my butterfly wings back. Not sure about goals, but will think on them.
I LOVE you ladies!
I PRAY for you daily in all your struggles!
WELCOME to the new faces!
THANK YOU for being here and being such wonderful SUPPORTERS of each other!
Kylia in Ohio where January is mostly cloudy, but trying to make my own sunshine.11 -
Playing catch up! All is well here. You ladies have been busy.

"Get to do"s and "chose well"sChose well: BP, called Cao-Or and sent corrected roster,
Bonus: stroll with Joe and the dogs through Harris Beach campground, stroll with T, Post Office, Library, Grocery Outlet, Line dancing in the park (practiced Broke, Less Broken, Margarita, All Night, Homesick), Freddie’s.
Get to do: take BP, dogs to powerline, call S, fire call data into state system, index mutual aid files, watch STAS Day 20, submit grant pics and receipts, make experimental almond paste, declutter sideboard, practice new dances (I ain’t never gonna love nobody but Cornell Crawford (Alley cat), A Little Less Broken, One Margarita, I’m so used to being broke, All Night, Nothing but You, Blame it on my beating heart, Homesick); finish mulching flowerbed; broadcast cover crop seed in veg garden areas, invest another 10 minutes in prepping living trust, Freddie’s for complete series TDAP <$48, get Shingrix vaccine, find and configure a screen time popup, figure out where to plant naked lady bulbs, and soon as it warms up above 50 and dries out below 60% humidity I’ll tape and spray paint those rusted areas of Aunt Elsie’s stove. Reconcile Joe’s EOB’s Thrivent shows only 2263.48 so far, next BGBS ask Terry about GB’s FD firetruck tax levy – contacts, media, advocate???, Wednesday: call roofer.
Reward: inventory seeds, plan next year’s garden, wishlist replenishments, Happier January:
5: look for the good in others and notice their strengths: Thanked T for patience and humor. Joe too.
No oil pressure in the “TRIPS” van. We piled into the old (50 yo?) van but went to Harris Beach campground as closer. A couple of times Tumble’s barking sparked Shadow to bark and they both pulled Joe in different directions. He said something about how hard it was and how he wasn’t going to do it any more… but by the end of the walk he was focusing on how physically better he felt from the exercise and deep breathing in the chilly, fresh ocean air. I’m trying, struggling but trying, to learn not to take everything he says as the always-and-forever-carved-in-stone. Thankful for that!
Joe thinks the oil pump in the “TRIPS” van’s engine is shot, and is preparing me to bid it “Thanks and farewell!”
Lisa I am so with you about the light, desk lamps and ageing eyes. The forest we love blocks most of the natural light PLUS Joe’s glaucoma makes bright lights hurt his eyes. I just can’t seem to get it bright enough in my office to comfortably see the detail I’d like, so looking for more lamps. your story, can see the unhappiness in pic #2 and the joy in #3. and dang, gal, that chapel length train, rich, glorious beautiful. You look like a princess!
Julie your students are lucky to have your perspective. The things you said about the cyclical nature of their concerns will stay with them. For me, exercise generally improves quality of sleep, but exercise done late postpones sleep’s onset.
Jude take your time, glad you’re here.
Heather I’d like your DH’s jigsaw puzzle. How big will it be? Papa taught me the names of the US States and their capitals when there were only 48. Remember many but surely not all… We love our woodburning stove, it's porcelain and cast iron, seals well, and drives off the damp more than the electric central heating. We only run it when it rains, which should damp down any particulate pollution. Not givin’ it up :noway: need it for those long power outages, both for heat and stovetop cooking.
Tina Hope you feel better soon, glad you’re being careful not to lift.
Annie ((hugs)) . Sometimes moving into assisted care before things get really tough is the sound choice. Think the assessment would be good, if sad, information for all of you.
Katla glad you have an appointment with an eye doctor and not just an optician. If you fell hard enough to blacken your eye and break the lens… Wrist surgery? Oh no! Not what you needed to start 2021. ((hugs)) How is your DH taking this news?
Janetr I usually start un-decorating the tree on the 6th, but not this year. When I do start, as I take ornaments out to garage, I’ll bring in twinkle bright lights for the office windows. I need the light and color to make me smile.
Welcome @ajr50969 ! Would you let us know what you’d like to be called and your general locale? your ?Airedale?
Rebecca “…’twere well it were done quickly…”
Sue when I first read “…fell on a bag of horse pellets . . ” feed was not the first image that popped into my mind  Praying for your brother, oxygen in the 70s is so very scary.
Tracey hope your physio can relieve your back pain SOON, Glad the painkillers and heating pad are helping, good luck finding the exercise/stretches sheet.
Ginny good luck tomorrow/today at the DDS.
Pip you sure can pick the good lookers. (hugs)
Machka does the weather affect your hip? The rain sure gets my knees…
Allie ((hugs)) Sorry to hear about the pneumonia but glad you’re in hospital for it. Is it your local hospital?
Karen ditto Lisa’s comments about your sound advice to Annie.
Kylia imho figuring out a way to access the new biz system from your home would be well worth any investment of your time and $$. ((hugs)) Hardest and best. 13 was a testament to your great care of her. ((hugs))
Lanette good to see you pop in, was getting worried.
Happy tired. Strolled with T, danced at park, ran errands. Most steps in one day since I retired in 2016. When I got home, Joe announced TRIPS van is OK. He was looking at the temp gauge and thought it was the oil pressure gauge. We had a good laugh as that’s the kind of thing I do too. Only other time he’s done it was once when we thought we were stranded way out in the desert looking at a property when the van wouldn’t start. It wouldn’t start because he’d forgotten to press the anti-theft security switch. So grateful he’s taking these things lightly and not angrily/frustratedly.
Lighter, lovelies!

Oh Katla! I'd hoped you had been lucky in your fall but apparently not. Sending healing vibes to you, dear.
Several days ago, my husband slipped on the icy drive at our island home and was fortunate enough to land squarely on the part of his anatomy where he has the most padding. I inspected him for bruising and found none. But as the days have gone by, he's discovered that the jolt must have discombobulated something in his lower back because he's stiff and sore. Still, no biggie.
Healing vibes going out to Allie as well. I figured out that you've had heart surgery but missed what it was that sent you in for the operation in the first place. Pneumonia is NOT what you want to have right now. Here's hoping they can help you fight it off quickly. Same wish for your brother, Sue.
For me, the saddest thing about the past year has been that my parents have been under lockdown. Thank goodness they're at a place where measures against infection are taken seriously! That takes a huge weight off my heart. Nevertheless, I feel they're being deprived of their main joys in what may well be their last years. We Zoom with them regularly, but I can see how my mother is declining now that she gets essentially no exercise at all.
Glimpses of her dry humor still shine through at times. In late summer, when the pandemic had abated a bit, my sister and her family arranged to take my parents to the summer home to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary. My brother-in-law cooked up their favorite dishes and cracked open some good wine. When my mother wondered what all the commotion was about, they explained that she and my dad had been married for 70 years. She thought for a moment, then said "I still like him."
My husband and I are still in northern Norway but are slated to fly home to Svalbard tomorrow. We'll see how that goes. Yesterday's flight was cancelled because of severe storms up there. The company car has been standing at the airport for a few days. One of the technicians went out to the airport today, located the car, and kindly drove it out of a snowdrift for us. But more storms are forecast. My husband fully expects to have to dig it out again when we arrive. I just hope we can find it!

So sorry for the loss of your Sara pup! We lost our POM last February and I still tear up thinking about him. Glad that you are feeling better after being down for a while and hope life continues to get better for you.

What a sweet story about your parent's 70th wedding anniversary!

Allie - I hope you feel better soon, but you are where you need to be right now.
Karen - That's great advice for Annie. It is a process, my Mom waited almost 2 years before she got in to a place, she probably really needed it at 18 months
Lisa - I understand how you feel. My wedding dress was stored at my inlaw's and when I went to look at it a few years ago it had a big yellow stain on it. I didn't know what to do with it, my MIL suggested I get it drycleaned. I decided there was no reason to as my eldest was already married and my youngest is 6" taller than me and it was not anything she would wear. I ended up cutting it up and I made a shadow box with some of the lace. Some of the other lace my youngest used to have a veil made for her wedding. It was hard to do, but I'm so glad I did. I now see it everyday as the shadow box hangs over my bed. I'll share a picture later of the shadow box and the veil.
Heather - I have friends that built their dream house in their 40's, she was adamant that it was designed with the ability to be in it all their life so she had wider doors put in in case they ever needed wheelchairs, a large bathroom so that equipment could be brought in if needed and everything on the main level that they would need. They did finish the basement, but didn't use it often. Oddly enough, about 10 years after moving in, they were in a terrible transport truck accident. They both drove team. She was in a wheelchair for about 2 years during the recovery phase and he had a brain injury and had a lot of balance issues for a while. Since their house was set up they were able to stay at home and have someone come stay with them instead of them having to be misplaced.
Kylia - It's nice to see you posting again. Sorry about your precious Sara.
Barbara - What kind of lighting do you need for your room, is it all over lighting or is it task lighting. I have a couple of suggestions that have been a huge help for me that were relatively cheap to do.
Ottlite - is a very good light for tasks. I used it for scrapbooking and Rodger uses it for woodburning. There are several models available. Here in Canada they are sold at Michael's.
For overall light I found a LED Light bar that plugs into a socket. IT lights up the whole room and gives me enough light to read and work. Rodger enjoyed mine so much he bought himself one for the shop.
I don't know if you will be able to see this or not, my best friends brother in law wrote a song about Covid. The F word is strong but it summarizes how we all feel. Hopefully you can see it if you so choose.

I had my 8th Covid nose swab completed on Monday, last night the health department chose to call instead of text the results. I had two missed calls from them, they ramble on and on in the message before finally stating that I was negative. It was a heart stopper for a few seconds. Turns out, they have changed how they do it and did the same for our residents. Our nurses were getting calls all night with only the first name of the residents. It doesn't work well.

Barbie in NW WA
I forget how much it can rain here. It is relentless. I have managed to get out and walk most days, but I didn't yesterday. It wasn't just a drizzle, but an absolute downpour.
Update on my mother -- she does not ambulate well, but that seems to be because of the dizziness. She had her follow up with her PCP yesterday. She called ahead of time to say she needed me to come in with her. (The reason we were worried, because someone asked, is that this same group would not allow my friend's husband to go in with her during her appointments -- she just had a knee replacement, but he still isn't allowed to go in and help her during the post op visits.) We hadn't heard back if I could come in or not, but I masked up in the car, and told her, "Better to ask forgiveness than ask permission. I'm going in." They didn't question it. Even at the hospital lab, they let me in, just taking all of my personal information for contact tracing, if it is needed.
Anyway . . . her blood pressure was 60/40. It was all I could do to keep from bursting into tears. (Which I have done quite a few times alone while I'm visiting.) The good news is that her doctor is amazing. I really like her. Because my mom's BP had risen to 220/170 in the hospital, they put her on two blood pressure medicines. It was too much, and an overreaction. So, her doc took her off both of them. (We had already stopped one because she had a severe allergic rash reaction to it.) She is instructed to drink a lot, including one gatorade and one soda per day, and add salt to her diet. The hospital docs had put her on a low-fiber diet because of the bowel issues, but now she hasn't had a BM since she left the hospital, a week ago. So her doc told her to ease back in more fiber to her diet and take miralax in a day or two if nothing happens. I really pressed this issue because my mom is either hot or cold -- fast or nothing -- when it comes to her bms, so the doc suggested it could be irritable bowel, but she didn't offer any meds. Which is good, actually. It is one reason my mom likes her; as she said after the appointment, "Did you notice she doesn't carry a prescription pad along with her everywhere she goes!"
The doc asked my mom if she lives alone, and when she said yes, she said she really wanted someone to move in with her for a while to keep an eye on her, so coming up here was the right thing to do.
Last night my mom was already looking and moving better. She checked her blood pressure before we went to bed last night and it was 140/82, so much better.
I have been reading along and emoting hugs and likes, but not having a lot of energy for responding very much. Glad to see Penny; sorry Allie is back in the hospital; welcome to the new folks!

Allie - Sorry you're back in the hospital! Hope you feel better soon!
Kylia - Nice to see you posting again. Glad you had a nice vacation. So sorry about Sara. It's so hard making that decision.
Memory - When my grandmother was in the earlier stages of dementia, she lived with my uncle and aunt. They had to put signs all over the house to remind her which directions to go for what she needed to do. It helped then, but after a while, it stopped working. Ultimately, they had to put her in a facility that specialized in dementia care. We all hated her being there, but no one in the family was equipped to care for her at that point. A facility was the best option for everyone, though not an easy decision to make.
Health update:I checked my BP and heart rate today. I was a bit anxious about it, but my HR is more or less back to normal. That is very nice indeed. My BP is normal. It's always been good. Shortness of breath improved too, so I am heading in the right direction, health wise.
This is good because the weight is heading upward. I can start to do a bit more limiting of my food and increasing exercise, though I'm still limited to very light weight workouts and walking for the time being. I had been eating more to try to get my iron numbers up. I felt it was worth sacrificing a few pounds to get my health back in line.
I still cannot kick the drainage cough. I'm trying to hit it hard with OTC medications. Hopefully, I can get that under control too. If any of you have ideas on how to stop that, please let me know. Sometimes I cough so much my chest hurts. Diphenhydramine used to work, but that doesn't seem to be working now.
Homes - When we purchased our current home, I insisted on one level. We wanted this to be the last house we buy, so I wanted it to be accommodating long term. The original owner of the house lived here for 50+ years and he had done some modifications already, such as putting door knobs that are the push down type, rather than turning. Stairs are not friendly to aging people. Plus, I'm clumsy enough already.
Flea - Sounds like you're taking control of the situation with your mom. Glad to hear of improvement in her health.
That's all for now. I need to actually go drive my car somewhere.

Hey all! No kids today, as I have an all day, online training. (Read: BORING)! But mandatory, so...we suffer through.
Kylia sorry about your pup and the stresses of the year. I received your Christmas card and felt bad that I couldn't get my s*** together enough to get mine out!
Katla- ugh! Sorry about your fall! Hope you feel better soon.
Allie sending healing thoughts and prayers your way!
Heather Love the pic of the kids! Regarding your dh's periodic table puzzle: oddly, I got a 300 piece periodic table puzzle for my daycare kiddos! It came with a book talking about the table and each element on it. Fun stuff!
All I have time for now. Lunch break is over and it is back to my training! Ttfn xoxo KJ(Kelly)4 -

Once again I feel so blessed for the virtual company of my old school friends. I talked about MFP and my friends on here and why the goings on in the US are more than usually of interest to me. I know the capital of North Dakota is Bismark. And New Jersey is Trenton.
For two of them their grandchildren live abroad and one lives alone. I know I have it much easier than most.
Sorry Allie for your troubles. P.us Tina, Katla and several others for their physical troubles. Our health is so precious.

I lost a nice post oh well!
I've definitely gained 15 pounds in last few years. I really saw it in mirror when on recumbent last night, (now that mirror is up, far across the room I can see middle when on recumbent if I twist around to see mirror 5 m away.
I found I look a bit dense and compact on zoom, too...
bummer, bummer!
We had this BIG online meeting (40-50 people) and I thought a couple of my very active guy teacher friend-acquaintance-colleaguues seemed a bit less in shape, and a bit older (and one a bit unkempt, his hair was funnily sticking kind of straight up where as he usually looks pretty sharp. they must have thought the same thing about me... I was not unkempt, but I have gained a bit, and a bit more.
I didn't get WO today or much of anything. (little slow walk this morning and a little light cleaning). I did go through goals. I spent a good while this eve with a colleague working on a mail we'd planned to send out about 2 months ago....it's done! yay!
I had a super light lunch: mostly 2 poached eggs and chard, due to lack of time, so could have TWO small sugar free bean brownies for dessert and snack. FUN. I still have quite a bit of reserve calories and not huge appetite. the major starch craving seem way less today.;.want to at least eat enough to not be sleepless from hunger.
I kind of thought of working this eve but would like to kick back. its 9pm.
Some work today, not incredibly top level, but not so bad.
I felt really stressed at some points and with not good concentration but got it together when prepping (for a bout an hour) for working on letter together (looking at different versions). it was nice cause we seemed to work well together, efficient and got job done, catching one another's mistakes and not being overly sensitive about having made mistakes on one side or the other. I'm non-native but still caught a few of his formulation mistakes, so it was a nice balance.

Allie: I’m sorry that you need hospital care again. I believe you will be safer there. I pray that all goes well, & you recover quickly and can go back home.
Heather: We have some bathroom concerns that will hopefully ease away. We already have bathrooms in place upstairs and down. The concerns are the fact that all bedrooms are on the second story. DH may someday need to be on the ground floor. Bathing is not really possible down here. A chair crawler up the stairwell is one item that is possible. We’ve researched and have seen photos of an outside elevator between a first floor window and a second floor window above. At this point we’re doing well enough and don’t need to remodel. That could change. Having researched and knowing of some reasonable options helps me reduce worries and fears. :flowerforyou:
Penny: I think I will be okay. My face is banged up but will heal. My wrist doesn’t seem to be broken or even sore. I miss my glasses like crazy and will be seeing the eye doctor this afternoon. She will give me an eye exam and a prescription for new glasses. Then I order them and wait until they arrive. I’ll likely be using a bigger font when I visit here. I hope you will be able to return home without problems.
Carol: Good news for your brother in Florida. I would love it if we could all get the same thing done sooner rather than later. :flowerforyou:
I have an eye appointment this afternoon at 4. I will have an exam, and I suspect the doctor will order new prescription glasses for me. Waiting to get them will be challenging. I can see well enough, but my left eye tends to ache at the effort of focusing close up.
