My trigger was being hospitalized twice for high blood pressure. I was on two blood pressure meds and also feeding one through an IV however, my blood pressure was still extremely high. I was scared for my life and wanted to live more than anything!!!8

Since I'm not sure if you are asking what made you start losing weight or tip that helped you lose weight I'll answer both. Finding out my BMI was 28.2 is what motivated me to start losing weight, because I had no idea it was that high.
I have only been on here 6 days so obviously don't have weightloss to show off yet but counting calories has made me make some realization like I had no idea how much creamer I was using in my coffee and how many calories it was. First I went down to double the serving size and today I went down to the actual serving size and was shocked that I was still fine with it after a couple sips!8 -
Not skipping every meal and then eating an entire pizza for dinner.4

2 things triggered this go around that has been more persistent and consistent overall. 1- was weighing in end of May and being the highest I ever was. I sat down and had a long talk with myself. Either I do something about it or I get comfortable being this weight. Honestly, once I started making peace with myself at this weight (I got rid of my smaller clothes, clothes I hated, bought clothes that fit the current size that i liked, and started talking to myself nicely instead of beating up myself for everything)- I started feeling better and started losing just due to not as much emotional binging. 2- the second thing that happened was i started walking every day at least 20 minutes. And from there i just kept snowballing small changes as weeks went on. I am 45 down since the end of may 2020 and have 25 to go to hit my healthy weight range. But having that talk over the summer with myself, really helped my mindset and I have been able to keep the healthier changes I have made since then.9

Like others, i went full keto, which essential eliminates carbs from your diet. Unfortunately, going keto is an unpleasant process both mentally and physically. Thankfully, you can achieve similar goals by counting and reducing calories with higher carb intake than keto.7

Buying an elliptical trainer. My husband hadn't been using his gym membership for over a year and said he was thinking about going back to the gym right after work a couple times a week.
I wasn't very happy with that idea because that would mean the evening rush hour would be only on my shoulders 2-3 times a week ( I also work fulltime and we have two kids) so I suggested we invest in some equipment to work out at home.
At that point I had been thinking about doing some exercise myself but never expressed it before. I could really use it though. I was completely sedentary outside of work and had a BMI of about 41.
So we bought the elliptical and I made myself go on it several times a week. In the beginning I was destroyed after 5minutes but I pushed through and did several short sessions with breaks in between.
About 3 weeks later I was at my fathers house and I had the courage to get on his scale. I did not have one at the time , hadn't had one for 20 years and I felt quite confident that day because hey, I had been exercising for 3 weeks . The results shocked me as it was the highest I had ever seen!
I read on some forum about MFP and installed the app the next day. I have tracked my food and exercise for a little over two ears now, we invested in some weight training equipment, my BMI went from 41 to 28 and I feel better than ever! i'm still losing weight but at a very slow pace, maybe 1-2 lbs a month but it is a new lifestyle for me and I hope to stabilize at a healthy weight.
So my trigger was buying an elliptical. Or maybe even more expressing to my husband that I wanted to do something about my physical condition and weight by suggesting we buy one.14 -
Honestly measuring and tracking what I consume has been THE most helpful tool. Every time I stop tracking I gain 5 or 10 pounds quickly.

Finding out my cholesterol was 246. I had been yo-yoing and and wanting to loose for a long time, but never really sticking with it. Seeing that number made me quit lying to myself that I was OK, and made me get serious. The things that made me actually loose the weight was sticking to vegan, and almost completely giving up junk food snacks.2

Just having diabetes is enough to say I want to live a healthy life, I work in the medical field and see what the out come of diabetes is and it is ugly and painful.3

Losing a colleague years ago. Made me realize life was precious. Precious enough to appreciate taking things day by day, and that meant making healthy food choices, tracking and letting my inner beast out for exercise.5

Realizing the original reason I wasn’t losing weight was because I was afraid of what my friends and family would think. I also realized for the first time that I actually do have what it takes to get in superb shape, but I’ve always put what other thought of me above going for it.
For some context, everyone in my life kept telling me I had an ED when I was younger because I didn’t want to eat sugar or junk food and because I would enjoy long walks. I internalized that for years and was worried it was true and now I realize it’s complete bull *kitten*.10 -
trigger to lose was coming out of quarantine! (felt like I had been in a cave for over a year, eating, drinking, sitting, gaining...) The thing that made the biggest difference was starting out with 4 weeks of strict keto..it broke all of my awful junky carb habits (chips, fries, breads, excess wine etc. I couldn't continue keto despite loving it, due to constipation) In the 6 weeks since (using IF), I have ZERO cravings for any of those things and stick to more nutritious choices (air fried fresh sweet potato cubes vs french fries for example) For me it was the perfect launching point.8

My trigger was the orthopaedist telling me that the ONLY way to reduce the unbearable pain in my knees was to "take the pressure off them", & "the only way to do that was to reduce (my) calorie intake". I loved that he was honest enough to say it, unlike the other gutless doctors I'd seen.
So here I am, 5 weeks later, 6 kilos lighter, & on a roll. My daughter recommended myfitnesspal, when I told her, & if it wasn't for that, I don't know that I would've stuck it out. Best recommendation ever!
I love my Food Diary, & use it religiously, not only to log my daily eats, but to plan the next day. I love that I can enter my favourite recipes, then tweak them to make a healthier version, so hubby & I don't feel like we're missing out on anything. He's jumped on board as well, & not a minute too soon, with his own, & his familial, history of cholesterol issues.
I'm not following any one specific diet, but a combination of the CSIRO eating plans, & my 20+ years experience in managing my Mums diabetes. I'm simply counting Kj's, controlling portion size, & eating 6 times a day, to keep the sugars balanced & stave off the hunger. I've swapped a lot of foods for lower fat options, (like milk, cheeses, meats, etc) & got rid of all "empty" carbs, except for my 2 favourite bikkies, with a cuppa, once a week, but ONLY if I've lost more than 500g. I've also increased our protein & veg, & making sure we get as many essential nutrients as possible.
Hopefully, in the next 2-3 weeks, the knee pain should be at the point where I can finally start walking daily, which should help to shed those kilos, even faster. At the moment, I can only manage 1-2 short walks per week, but they're getting easier every week. So it can only get better from here on11 -
My trigger was when the scale said the same number I weighed right after I had my daughter. That was the only time my weight was that high, and I hit it again during this stupid pandemic. On the plus side, I am now only 1lb away from my goal weight.14

I got into using those self-serve bikes while it was kinda fun once in a while I didn't change my lifestyle or my diet. However my boyfriend got a heart attack and realized I needed to make a serious change in the way we live. So now I take the bike to work everyday and on most errands and because he's out of work, we cook more at home and plan our meals so I use MFP to help plan healthier meals for us.9

Heard a radio program about the dangers of drinking every night....someone resonated and knew that I had to stop or cut down on the alcohol and start eating healthier. That was the trigger and it worked.6

My trigger was when I went to the dr about a cold and had to get on the scale and realize that I was almost at the weight I was at when I had gastric sleeve surgery. Yes it can be gained back after surgery. So now I am trying to us this as a tool to help me get back on track and stay knowledgeable about the foods I put in my mouth.
