These are such hard conversations to have. I wish it were as simple as "no thanks," but these people that I love so much feel judged, feel like I'm rejecting having fun with them, feel like I'm being a little... snobby? Idk. I just want to feel good, I want to get things done, I don't want to stall my very slow weight loss, and I want to keep the momentum of the choices I've been making going. It's not about them at all! Sigh. /vent
I think this resonates with a lot of people. I know it does with me!6 -
We are headed out to be part of a movie being filmed in town. They are looking for "extras". Should be FUN.
It is really fascinating to see the choreography that goes into those crowd scenes, all the work that goes into lining up that perfect shot. Those directors and production assistants work HARD. But personally, OMG I hated the experience. I found there is a huge caste system between the extras-( even between SAG and non Union), the guest stars and of course the stars. I’m used to theater where you’re all in it together as a collaborative effort. Hated it enough that it was a major part of my decision to stop acting professionally! I hope you have a different and more positive experience than I did.
Bring comfortable shoes (sometimes costume shoes are painful), your own snacks/ water (sometimes food runs out from craft services, extras of course get separate food from the stars ) and something to read. There is a LOT of down time, and it’s a very long day.
But it is pretty cool to see yourself on film in the finished product!!!! Not gonna downplay that one!5 -

Water after dinner! And a walk but the mosquitos are terrible.
Sometimes no amount of bug spray is enough! Camp sounds lovely though. Have a great time this weekend!5 -
Kicked off the weekend with two glasses of wine- first one was mid- afternoon when DH said “you want a glass of wine?” Sure! I folded like a cheap suit , but was able to take a little snooze afterwards. Then one with dinner.
Today our plans with friends got rained out, but we are trying to come up with alternatives. I need to just stay on the steady path of no more than 2 drinks in the entire day on this holiday weekend. If I can achieve that goal and not go over, it’s a win!
Oh and my weight is down again this morning. Woo hoo!4 -
Good day to all
Today is an impromptu dinner party with my mom and brother. I did buy several bottles of wine and some brandy but it will be up to me if I want any. My brother does not drink and my mom can take or leave a glass of wine. Since we are having steak mid day I may or may not have a glass just not sure. After dinner is when the wine devil will jump on my shoulder. We love love love to play card games and board games. Nothing sets up a reason to want to drink for me than this.
Even if I do chose to have a few glasses of wine I am fine with that it will just mean for months end I will have one less AF day. So far with our without a drink(s) today I will have met my goal for the month of less alcohol than last month as long as Sunday and Monday are AF.
@MissMay sounds like you are well on your way to having a great time
@Lilylady3k if anyone has some citronella or even orange, lemon or tangerine essential oil to put out in a few places that will keep the pesky flying bugs to a min. If you mix a few drops with some lightweight oil and put it on your skin that will work as a replant too.
@chocolate_owl I am sorry you are made to feel like a 'snob' when you choose not to have alcohol. I found that if I just matter of fact say I will later or I am good with just 'whatever drink I have' and then move to the next subject like it is not even on your radar as important to you, it helped me get past the pushy ones. <hugs>
@dawnbgethealthy OH MY, you need to find a way to slow down just a tad! really burn out is a real thing
@globalhiker No. 4 on your list is my favorite, the rest will fall into place

I put the Jack Daniels bitters on my shopping list, nice idea.
Ooh I want to be a movie extra, that sounds like fun. Maybe something for retirement. Many agencies actually have a really hard time finding models that look like average Americans of all ages and appearances and one can make fun side money if called in for photos or voice-overs or videos needed for marketing or software products companies sell.
Enjoying life today, AF style4 -
DH & I ... both AF this evening. Didn't even discuss alcohol, drinking or not drinking. Just grabbed a diet soda for dinner.
May accountability: 12/31 days AF
Alcohol: 17 days (41 drinks)
Goal: Limit 1-2 glasses per day; 12-16 AF days per month. Aim to drink no more than 2 nights in a row.4 -
My May Goals:
16-20 AF days per month.
Changing my goals as my schedule is changing, but sticking to the 16-20 AF days.
My daily check in:
Wednesday May 26 - AF - Possibly a few drinks tomorrow.
Thursday May 27 - Drinks - Just being indulgent. Not sure about Friday - drinks or not.
Friday May 28 - 2 drinks several hours ago. Census (Statistics Canada) training all day today via zoom, and again tomorrow before my evening shift at the restaurant. So far no days off in the past 2 weeks, and none seen for the foreseeable future. My garden and lawn are sooooo behind!!
Saturday May 29 - 2 drinks. Breaks during Zoom Census training today were spent digging and grass mowing, then I went in to work at the restaurant over dinner hours. I am a bit burned out for sure, but this next month will pay for my yearly property taxes so I have to (must) keep going.
Rolling total: 19AF out of 29 days3 -
End of May.......fastest month in history. Seriously it flew by for me.
For a long holiday weekend our weather stinks. I had to touch the heat on last night because it was below 48° in the house. Looking out this morning at my (much needed to be attended to) gardens I do not see any sad frozen plants.
Report: the movie experience was total fun. This company was from Paris(love those French accents). The place I go to listen to live bands on the outdoor patio deck was the setting. My friend owns the establishment and told us and our friends that the film crew just asked that we all be ourselves like any other night gathering with friends. This was not a paid gig for any of us. Hahaha nope, only a fun time and something to remember down the road.
On the ride home last evening from picking up some items out of town, we pasted a pub with music on their sign. Husband began to say we should stop in there. I told him don't even think of it. Heated discussion because then he called me OLD. I replied, "if I had someone to DRIVE my drunk butt around all the time...........blah blah blah".
Yea, you can tell how that ended.
Normally I keep a some what filter on my mouth. Feeling like a taxi 24/7 because someone REFUSES to get their drivers license back because they can not control their drinking is a problem.
Thank you for letting me vent.😠7 -
NOTE :
Link for the continued June 2021 less alcohol thread will be post tommorrow later in the afternoon (USA-EST)
I know a lot of people like to jump on the train at the beginning of a new month or week. Well........here is your chance.

Thank you, MissMay.
The month went fast for me, too. There was no gradual acclimation to socializing from pandemic isolation. It seems our family went straight from isolation to full on party. Every weekend. We had a 24hr trip for DH#3's bday, and that was an all-day drink across 5 different places/events. I'm still struggling with some congestion, and I think that probably makes it easier for me to moderate. I drank water at the first and last events, and one drink each at the other 3. My goal has been no more than 2, but this was stretched over many, many hours and they weren't strong drinks (e.g. hard cider) so I'm not sweating it. Other than that I've been able to enjoy 2 and not fight myself for more. Last night went to one of my dad's favorite programs at the symphony with 3 generations (dad and daughter), and it was a really special night for the last night of the symphony season (amazing that they managed to pull off a season at all, all things considered. Very thoughtfully done). Went for cocktails before and dinner afterward, and managed one drink at each (admittedly huge pour at dinner). Going to the lake today, and I imagine we'll shake up a margarita or something while we grill out. I have definitely succumbed to IDGAF thinking at the lake, but I have also been able to keep it moderate. Sometimes pre-deciding helps, and that will be my approach for what remains of the weekend. That and being conscious to draw on my past strengths, not my past weaknesses.
Happy Memorial Day. See you guys in June.5 -
Trying to balance work with pleasure a bit better. My life feels like 80% work/15% unplanned stuff requiring my attention/5% fun. @dawnbgethealthy I am headed for burn-out if I don't balance up this mix soon. At least I ran 2 days back to back, keeps my energy going.
ahoy_m8 your social calendar sounds wonderful....full on party every weekend (jealous in a good way!)
Today is party prep day. We're smoking an 11 lb pork shoulder all day long w/hickory, serving that with corn on the cob (we like to grill it plain then when serving add olive oil and a cajun or taco type of seasoning to it), homemade coleslaw, watermelon.
AF today again. My temptation will be the Hagen Daaz on sale for $1.66. That is a really good deal.4 -
Good evening to all
Was not AF last night, 1 glass of wine and 2 whiskey and water but spread out over the day (sorta). Today I really went kinda off the rail. WE actually went into a pub that we have not been into since covid shut everything down. We had the most yummy club sandwich and split a pitcher of beer. Then home for a nap. Maybe I should not have done that but (shrugging shoulders) I did, I own it and will most likely have a shot tonight since my "streak" was broken as soon as we entered the pub.
I will still be AF 25 days this month which is 1 more day than April. Win!
@MissMay I will listen to you vent anytime!5 -
My May Goals:
16-20 AF days per month.
Changing my goals as my schedule is changing, but sticking to the 16-20 AF days.
My daily check in:
Sunday May 30 - AF - Nice to hit my 20AF days. I've been all over the place this month, long (for me) stretches of AF, and also drinks several days in a row. My schedule will be out of wack for another month or so, but all good.
Rolling total: 20AF out of 30 days4 -
@MissMay
How exciting about being in that movie! Yes, that will be a memory that will stick with you : - )
You are setting such a great example for your DH that one can still go out, have fun, enjoy live music etc. and it doesn't have to be all about the drinks. Obvi not rubbing off on him : - (
So great that you are sticking to your guns though, for yourself, and your health and happiness.4 -
Hi everyone! Can I join in? Desperately need some help cutting out the drink how do all do it what are your bed tips? Thankyou.
Going to try to go sober tonight after drinking way too much over the weekend, I usually have a drink every evening and now I can see how many calories are actually in the beer etc I'm shocked! No wonder I'm getting so big lol if I just cut the drink I think I could defo lose some weight.7 -
Welcome @Katie43210, of course you can join us in here. You can definitely start out as slow as you wish to cut back. Try cutting back on the number you consume when you do drink. Or choose one day a week to skip the drinks. We are all on our own patteren for setting our own goals.
😊

I'm glad to hear everyone is keeping control, being mindful and accountable. While still enjoying themselves.
@ahoy_m8 agreed, you got it going on with your upcoming social gatherings. I am jealous of anyone that gets to enjoy a lake. I live on the ocean and hate salt water.
@globalhiker your post about your work ratio- fun ratio hit home for me. I NEVER planned to be working this much, this year. I have a problem turning down clients requests. And they all want it done yesterday, not next week. LOVE pork shoulder.!
@lmlmrn isn't odd how those beer naps sneak up on you? Lol. I had a rainy day nap yesterday and it felt delightful. Great job on getting in one more AF day than last month.
@dawnbgethealthy I am hoping you will take a break with working after you accumulate the amount needed for your property tax. Your wearing us out reading your work schedule. Please take care of YOU. Nice work hitting your 20AF days

After going out 3 nights straight last week and running into people not seen in awhile, plus dealing with my own husband drinking issues. I heard a lot of people using the word sober.
I am not a fan for the term "sober" only because it has confusing definitions.
"Dont worry, I'm sober" (Over the limit for standard drinks, yet can still manage to drive home without crashing the car)
"I am going to sober up" ( decrease the alcohol amount in blood just enough to get rid of the hangover, than start all over)
And then the biblical term messes it all up.
To me it leaves everyone on a seesaw, that if they tilt to much on one side or the other it can be to their advantage to use the term.
My thoughts only.....

Well another night last night with no discussion about alcohol and both DH & I did not poor a drink.
Racking up AF evenings in May to meet my personal minimum . One more evening in May. Reviewing my lack of success and successes this month. I did much better the second half of the month and when DH joined me with no tempting bottles of open wine every night I wasn't even tempted to open one myself.

@Katie43210 - Welcome! This is a wonderful non judgmental thread and everyone picks their own goal or focus as to what "less alcohol" means to them. Which I personally think is very cool. Make sure to hop over to the June thread tomorrow!
I think @MissMay posted this once ... and it struck home to the point that I saved it
*One less drink this week? Or
*Perhaps only drink on even numbered days? Or
*Stop after having 2 of your chosen beverages? Or
*Only partake on the weekends? Or
??
Remember how hard it used to be? It's easier today than it was a year ago, and it will be a lot easier a year from today as long as I keep practicing my skills and don't give up.5 -

❤❤❤ the fact you saved that @Lilylady3k made my whole day. AF at any camp adventure is a Willy Wonka golden ticket moment. Excellent moderation.5 -
It's month-end and my body fat did not move from 32.7% 3 weeks ago. *%$!@!? Too much sitting, too much snacking, and 4 days of non-AF will do it.
I'm signing up for Ultimate Accountability June challenge and also the Daily/Weekly Weigh in challenge for June and of course will follow you guys in June.5 -
Haha I miss counted my 'dry days' this month so it will be the same number as last month. 24 out of 31. But I still feel good about it. On the drink days, I stayed within my limit and I have noticed that I don't drink near as much as I have in the past when I have 'a few'.
So today has been pretty low key for DH and I. Went for a small walk at a park we have not ever visited before. It was different and not very big but enough that we can say we got out before it got too hot.
This is short today so everyone I will see you in June!5 -

1.5-2 glasses of wine this evening. Goodbye May and hello June!3

Monday May 31 - AF - Early start to the day, but I was home by 3:30 which felt like a day off. Put a few good hours into the yard and I will get an early night, long late days for 2 after this one.
Rolling total: 21AF out of 31 days - Great, I am right where I wanted to be with that.
See y'all on the June thread.3 -
Ended May with a dry streak of 36 days.
Not sure when my next alcohol drink will be. I have a frig full if Heineken00 to keep me out if trouble. Oh plus my chocolate coconut mocktini.
See you on June thread5 -
Sorta late to to the party, but current alcohol goals for the rest of May in order of importance.
1. Do NOT drink alone.
2. No more than 2 alcoholic drinks in a day (with company), no more than 3 days a week.
3. Fit the calories/macros in.
Week before last was a fail on all 3 counts. Depression is a kitten.
Last week I managed everything except the 2 drink limit. I had 4 drinks, with company, on a single day, and fit in the calories/macros.6
