Peppers and tomatoes will go in when I get some time.
Love those Azaleas @MissMay

hello/good eve or time of day of all
AF last night but not tonight, I felt the need to have 2 spirits. So far 1 is down may have a second.
Sore throat saga? well it is still here, was feeling better this am, until this eve after I ate food guess that stirred things up.
Love all the picture
btw, have I said thank you to all of you that post? this thread has changed my outlook on when and why I drink6 -

Hi all, Happy Monday!
Beautiful weekend, but I clearly need a better strategy than “*kitten* it” when it comes to drinking. Had 2-3 drinks each day this past weekend. Zero discipline with either food or drinks. I can’t keep doing this. I used to pride myself on being able to stop at just one drink, but lately I’m riding that buzzed, “this feels good” wave. The nice weather, being outside, general celebratory mood of spring into summer means I’m not requiring more of myself. Discipline and moderation are going out the window, and of course my weight is creeping up.
Sorry for the pity party, I just feel badly about myself today, and not particularly full of the gumption required to reset the start button- again.

Totally get this ... after the first or second it seems harder to stop.

@Lilylady3k I very much resonate with the quote from F. Scoot Fitzgerald, so much so I put it on a power point slide and printed it. It is on my closet door in my office along with two poster sized photo's I took to 'change your path' both showing a path through the trees to bright sunlight
I had my 2 drinks last night and I lived LOL actually it did not bother my sleeping or waking this am. So running total this month 14 of 17 AF days for the month of May so far. I may have another drink next weekend just don't know yet5 -
5/1 - 5/7: 7 drinks, 4 AF days
5/8 - 5/14: 11 drinks, 3 AF days
5/15: 2 drinks
5/16: 5 drinks
Saturday was really lovely. We did our errands early because my MIL's birthday was on Sunday and we planned to be with her most of the day. After I got back from the gym we watched the Preakness (great race btw), and then husband and I had a perfect date night. I had a glass of wine with dinner and a glass at the wine bar after. I was done drinking before 9, I never started focusing on the drinking instead of my partner's company, my drinks were delicious and an enhancement to the evening without being a distraction or the entire point... If I'm going to drink, I want it to be like that 99% of the time.
Yesterday our cat woke us up at 5:45, hollering in pain. He gets constipated from time to time, but this time was really bad. He threw up twice in the process of trying to get the poop out, at which point we took him to the emergency vet. They told us to wait a few minutes in the lobby on these hard concrete benches, and when he got a room we could go back. He never got a room, they treated him in a mass holding area, and we sat on these accursed concrete benches for two hours. My back was extremely unhappy. Husband asked me to stay home and keep an eye on that cat while he went to MIL's, so between the pain and having not much to do, all my drinking triggers hit and I sipped my Sunday away. First a light beer, then a whole bottle of rosé. This is how I want to drink 0% of the time. Kitty is fine, I'm mildly dehydrated today.
Idk what I'm doing tonight. The recipe calls for a cup of red wine, so a bottle will be open, and I'm feeling a lot like a rebellious teenager. I don't want to do any of the things I'm supposed to do. I'm tired and I want to be indulgent. But the months are slipping away and the weight isn't coming off and my friend's wedding is still going to happen...5 -
@MissMay - Thank you for the encouragement. Positive side ... the poor choices might just might be behind me this month and the good choices ahead. Time will tell.
@lmlmrn - It hit me as well ... I put it in the picture folder where my screen savers pick up pictures as a little reminder down the road.
@dawnbgethealthy - Love the progress on your garden! My tomatoes are starting to attract the wildlife (birds and rabbits) ... thinking I need to use some netting like you have in one of the pictures.
@chocolate_owl - I'm in a same but different boat this evening. Heading to a restaurant for book club for the first meeting in a while ... wine will be available if I choose. Not sure if I'll be tempted or if I'll pass. Thinking AF ... we'll see when I report back in tomorrow.4 -

@Lilylady3k This is so true... This is exactly what happened to me... Used to have control and could stop at 1 or 2, but then it came to a point that I was always looking for the next drink...7 -
AF yesterday AND husband cooked an outstanding dinner - Smothered Pork. It's an Indian dish done in a pressure cooker - basically a curry that has yogurt, crushed tomato, onion, ginger, 2 lbs pork, garam masala, that kind of thing. Sorry no pix because I ate it so fast
That's one of his best, up there with Korean BBQ chicken thighs. I will have to send you pix and the recipe for that one since it's on the menu this week.
Now you guys know why my weight loss is super-slow.....I eat too well
Have faith that if you need a motivation boost, it will come. Supposedly, our moon is in the Waxing Crescent Phase, which supposedly is the ideal time to generate motivation and set goals. That would be today and tomorrow, so take advantage. Go figure, just read this on google.....

AF tonight! I got one in! This is even after a long busy stressful day at work, too! I am not counting the one sip of my husbands Dark & Stormy.6

1 glass of wine at book club. Could I have skipped? ... sure there were a couple that didn't drink alcohol. But I felt in control and okay with my decision. The price ($11) of a glass when I'm out at a restaurant really does reduce my want for a 2nd glass LOL
Meanwhile at home DH had a bottle of wine and a couple of bourbon & cokes. I did not join him in more alcohol before or after bookclub but instead got a glass of water and drank it before heading to bookclub and then another glass of water after I got home before heading to bed.

Long day yesterday. Semi retired? Right, who am I kidding?! So I did not want to cook since I felt beat up from work. Went to Chinese for dinner and surprisingly I did not go over board with eating, brought 2/3 of it home for another meal. Oh and I had Chinese tea WHICH I LOVE.
AF again6 -
AF last night, and am happy about it. DH and I have sorta worked out a system that is working to suit both our alcohol/non-alcohol needs. So, we don't own a TV at all. We both watch shows on our laptops and since we both like different tastes, I watch in my home office and DH where ever he is sitting with his laptop. This usually means two separate rooms. If he wants a drink I encourage him too as long as I don't have to see the open bottle or have him flaunt it in my face (which he would never ever do). Then I take me and my lemon water or tonic water with bitters into my office (btw haven't been able to drink the tonic water with my throat the acid burns....) This is working! I have had more AF days since January than I think I have had in I bet decades...I am not kidding.
Update my throat is showing signs of improvement and I still have another week of meds so this is encouraging. Otherwise it will be a CT scan of my throat and speech therapy..
So my brother has asked me to paint a three panel mandala...this is throwing me really outside of my comfort zone since I have never done anything that large. I am meeting with him this morning to discuss patterns and final outcome. It is going to take all my creativity to pull this one off.6 -
16 AF/17 days
3 drinks total month-to-date
My stress level feels like an 8 out of 10 today. I am already falling into bad habits of rolling out of bed and going straight to work INSTEAD of taking care of #1 First.
Morning exercise and relaxation is non-negotiable. I need to pause, talk myself into a calm and cool mood today.
Make today a good one5 -
Garden is coming along. I'm looking forward to all the tomatoes if I can keep the birds and other animals away from them!

AF this evening It was an easy decision. DH had 1 beer after his run but then stopped there and I was not really feeling like anything "special" to go with the leftovers we had for dinner.5

@globalhiker
That smothered pork sounds delish!
I hadn't heard of any Indian dishes that used pork before. Such a versatile meat.3 -
@dawnbgethealthy, WOMAN, you are on fire🔥. Question, when do you sleep?
Your motivation and jump start into new job adventures is blowing my mind.
Love your mint stash and how you have it in controlled containers. That stuff can take over if allowed.4 -
@Lilylady3k your gardens are beautious as well
Is that a salmon colored Gerber daisy I see? And that hydrangea...WOW. Nice job on AF yesterday.4 -
18/18 AF so far. Kinda an easy month to do dry.
One little goal achieved is more satisfying than none.4 -

Nice garden @Lilylady3k ! Great to hear DH is running and drinking less too. My husband is still doing AF with me. I thought he would only do it short-term but he seems more convinced than I that he'll just continue being "mostly AF" for life.
Miracles do happen!
Smothered Lamb or Pork is a recipe from Mathur Jaffrey's cookbook. She is a popular Indian actress and cook. We have only made this with Pork since it's fairly fast and easy as far as Indian cooking goes and the calorie load not too bad. We'll make a batch of brown jasmine or brown basmati rice in the rice cooker to go with it. Then add a a green veg or salad on the side. IMO, I think the amount of meat could be cut in half since I just like the sauce itself.
We'll do a double-batch since it's even better the next day.
Here goes:
1 lb lamb or pork loin cut into 1 in cubes
1 onion, peeled and finely chopped
1 can crushed tomatoes
1/2 c finely chopped cilantro
1-2 hot green chilis cut into fine rings, keep seeds (we use serranos)
1/4 tsp ground turmeric
2 tsp garam masala (we use Mother's brand bought online, noticed the brand makes a difference)
1 tsp ground cumin (we buy the seeds and grind them fresh at last minute in a small grinder)
1 cup full-fat yogurt/5%, plain, greek style ok
1 TB tomato paste
3/4 tsp salt, or to taste
3 TB vegetable oil (we sometimes reduce to 2TSP)
4 cloves garlic, finely chopped
dash of freshly ground black pepper
1. Put all ingredients except oil, garlic, black pepper into a bowl and mix well
2. Place oil in pressure cooker, set over med high heat
3. Add garlic when oil hot, stir till brown
4. Add in the seasoned meat, turn heat to med
5. Cover pressure cooker and turn heat to med
6. Cook 15 min at full pressure
7. Reduce pressure quickly with help of cool water poured on the lid
8. Uncover, cook uncovered over high heat until sauce it thick, pretty fast
9. Sprinkle black pepper if desired and stir.

@dawnbgethealthy I hope you get enough sleep these days with all your jobs and training!
Yesterday I put in 11 hours of work, already putting myself in the danger zone. Today I will do better. Going out for a reset run now.
MAKE it a great day everyone.......it's all on you !4 -
Well, May has been one saucy month. Our adult boys did not come home for Mother’s Day; they had finals coming up and they live 4 hours away and work 40 hrs./week. So, I sucked it up and made a wonderful Mother’s Day brunch with all of the food I love and had my newly widowed MIL over to eat with us. (I hate how selfish I am.) That night, I had many drinks, knowing my girlfriends were coming the next day to celebrate my birthday. They stayed 2 nights and we quilted and bound 10 comfort quilts that our guild gives out to ill or grieving people. We ate, drank and sewed like crazy. Then I went to my dad’s for 5 nights to help him heal from a small medical procedure. I took my sewing machine there and did plenty of eating and drinking, and entertaining his friends.
It was nice to be home last night and I did not desire a drop of alcohol since I have had so much in the last week. Sorry for the long story, but I could not wait to get back here and try to live a healthy life again.6 -
Were has May gone? Thank you all for the pastoral garden photos. Lovely, all. I'm still recovering from a deep freeze without power to the greenhouse, so let's just call it a rebuilding year. I don't have the psychic energy to rush into replanting everything at once. Fall is a good planting season for shrubs here anyway. Too god awful hot in the summer.
Accountability: I have remained AF weekdays but weekends have been all over the map. Sometimes I'm content with one drink, and sometimes I unabashedly go over my plan. Celebrated DD#2 graduation, and that was nonstop parties with roommate families. Such lovely people. I fainted the night I traveled (another story - explainable in retrospect but still terribly concerning), and that scared me into moderation all weekend. One day I had 2 drinks at brunch, drank water all day at the tailgate outdoor party, then had wine at a party the roommate parents hosted for 200 in a local bar at night. Man, it was wall-to-wall bodies with nary a mask in sight (also another story).
I'm going to take @Lilylady3k 's outlook to heart. Half the month remains and so does room for improvement. I have a solid base to build on... I have no trouble AF M-Th. Sometimes I am happy with 1 drink. Now if I can just dial in what is going on between my ears when I get that IDGAF attitude and freewheel offroad. It seems every weekend has one night like that. But (positive self talk) that means there are 6 nights I am where I want to be. Just need to build on that.5
