WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR JUNE 2021

Thanks Barbie, for starting June thread!👍.
Husband reminded me this morning that normally our after Memorial Day routine was a very tired, sunburned family, because we used to do a long Renaissance camping event. It was two tents, cast iron cookware, lots of period clothing. So today I would be trying to get the clothes done, pots re-seasoned, everything in piles! We would come home so dirty, all shower, trying to blow our noses to get the dust and dirt out!
Today visiting and walking around Langley, a city further down Whidbey island.
Athenas trip to the beach with other grandparents and son and daughter in law.💖
Looks like they all had a great time!💖

I’d love to join this group. I will be 50 in October, hope that’s ok. If not let me know. This is probably my 3rd time on MFP, hoping to stick with it this time. I have about 50 lbs I’d like to lose. I was doing great before covid when my gym shut down, I kept working out at home and eventually lost my motivation so gained some weight back unfortunately. I start back at the gym today, kinda nervous, feels like I’m starting completely over.
Hope everyone has a great day!

You've joined just by posting. We're happy you're here! Lots of support here from a community of women that support each other through far more than just fitness and diet, we tend to share our lives with each other--you are more than welcome. Feel free to ask questions, respond to others, wherever you're most comfortable.

Barbie: I find a great deal of wisdom in, “Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good.” Gretchen Rubin Voltaire is wise. Thank you for each and every new thread as the months go along.
Pip: I like the early morning walk to avoid the heat. 72F is comfortable. I think 90F is blistering. 106F is a cue for darkened windows, air-conditioning at maximum, and staying inside. I hope you’re able to stay comfortable. :flowerforyou:
Barbie: Some businesses around here ask to see your vaccination card. We put a photo of the cards on each of our phones. The cards, themselves, are in a safe place at home.
Jodi in AZ: Welcome!
Rebecca: Athena is a cutie! What great photos!
June will be a busy month for us. We have a wedding to attend for our niece. Our daughter will be here with us for a few days. Our grandchildren will be here with the other grandparents. They’re on an RV adventure from Illinois to the Pacific Ocean. They’ll spend a night or two here before going to the coast. My daughter and I plan to spend a night at the coast near where they will be staying. I hope it all goes as planned and we can have a fun time together. Keeping my fingers crossed that it all goes well.

I've been using Bob's Red Mill pea protein powder. It is vanilla flavored and monkfruit sweetened. But it looks like Amazon is running out of it. Can you recommend a nondairy shake powder? Thanks,

Rori--I am so sorry for your loss. Hugs and prayers. You were such a Blessings to him and your care. Rest well.
Barbie--Thanks for getting us started on the new month.
For some reason my fitbit has decided not to charge. It worked fine until last night and would not charge. So DH is checking out a few things. I got it in Dec 2019, So not sure if I need to just get another one or what.
Kris--Hugs for you and DH, hope he feels better soon.
Rebecca--Thanks for sharing the pictures. What a cute family and looks like they had a lot of fun.
Katla--Saying a prayer that all goes as planned for your DD and family's visit.
Janetr--HI, have missed seeing you post. Glad you are doing well.
Looks like the sun is going to shine here this week, so hoping to get the new rubber mulch I got put in my garden spot.

Barbie, thanks for our fresh start. Know your students will rejoice to have you back at line dancing class.
Kris in AZ sending good thoughts for your DH. Like you, we live in a rural area 3 hrs drive from the nearest big hospitals (Medford) , and 8 hrs from the really big city (Portland) with university teaching hospital. Our rural hospital (35 min drive) air evacs to the when things are too complicated. It’s the main reason people have to move away from this Paradise. Remind me about your DH’s transplant?
Welcome @jodiodi01 Jodi in AZ! You’ve come to a great place for encouragement, check in often.
Annie congrats on your “flash fiction” and writing group contact
Rebecca tired, yes, but really relishing feeling clean and truly appreciating indoor plumbing…
Katla thanks for the vax card photo on phone idea. Will do that today.
Annie I like PBfit organic peanut butter protein powder. Some friends got it for me at Costco.
Janetr so good to see your smiling face!
Scorching: yesterday when I started chopping it was 72 F, perfect. After an hour, it warmed up to over 80 and just as I was thinking to take a break, our natural air conditioning/ocean breeze came up and I was able to go another hour. I love 75 for working outside and 80-95 for just hanging out. Anything triple digits is just too darned hot, even with a/c (which we only have in my car.) Joe is comfortable from 68-72, less than that he turns up the heat, more than that he camps out in front of a fan and is not happy.

My MIL lives about 5 minutes from us. I see her at least once a week. DH sees her almost daily.
Yes, I do think Sophia is a bit of a con artist- BIL and her worked at the Post office together. We never heard him mention her. She just showed up with another co-worker. MIL believed what they were saying. I think the connection to her favorite son over shadowed anything else.
She doesn't live in our town, thankfully. She comes over about once a month- MIL complains about her coming over because she either has to cook for Sophia or pay if they go out to eat- She started all of this and Sophia is taking advantage of it. Then after she leaves, MIL is on the Sophia kick - believes everything she said, etc and we have to listen to her. DH is just so tried of all of it. He says he is ready to turn all the bank accounts over to Sophia and be done with it but I don't think he really will- sure hope not.
No, my former hubby did not come. He did text me, to say he was thinking about me and he was there if I needed to talk then checked on me that evening.
The service was nice- SOOOO many people.. No real drama with the sisters- older sister ignored me completely. I think she might have said hello one time when they came out Saturday night(after mom told them they couldn't come with the dogs). Sunday they came out again, needing a shower- They had told mom they were staying with a friend while they were out but instead they slept in their van with their dogs at least two nights- not sure what they did last night. They were coming out to the house this morning but I left before they got there.
I have no idea what dh is feeling. He got to the service late and had to sit in the other building(I had seats saved but someone else took them- He was totally fine being in the other room with his friend that came from Vegas just for the service. I was fine with it. I haven't really talked to him. I got home this morning, he was sleeping after working all night.
Not worried about him- more concerned about mom-
She is getting overwhelmed with all that needs to get done in the garden, all the people who said they would be there to help and none are showing up- saying she just getting depressed.
I will be back up in a couple weeks and try and contact some of the ones who said they would help, remind them and let them know she needs the help now.
The weekend did go well in that it was just mom and I at the house the whole time(with the exception of the two quick visits from my older sister). We got to spend a lot of time together and I got a lot of things done for her that she wanted to do- while she was at church I picked asparagus, snow peas and artichokes. Yesterday we processed all of it- artichokes were a little past prime so I cooked them and we just saved the hearts- put them in jars w/ Italian dressing so she will have marinated artichoke hearts for her salad. Snow peas were either just cleaned(ends off) or shelled- sorted so she can freeze them- Two really good sized bags, one of shelled and one in the pods. The asparagus was a bit past prime too- that was chopped to freeze for soup this winter. Did other chores for her. Just being there with her was good for her.

Barbie ... Thank you for another month!
Jodi ... Welcome!
While I had thought May was a complete bust, the scale was down two pounds this morning. My goal is to be more intentional with my food choices. Taking Tracey's cue, I subbed out chips with carrots today for my afternoon snack. Still using my favorite dip, but know that the potato chips, not the dip have been the problem. I will still be following my IF lifestyle of fasting 19-20 hours with a 4-5 hour window, but to make certain my choices make sense, I'm going to track calories for a week or so. Gives me a better idea of where I need to make changes. Having said that, I don't anticipate my calories to drop below 1500.
Got through yesterday's picnic ok, but we didn't stay long. Turned out those in attendance were good friends and once the awkwardness of seeing us for the first time since our son's death had passed, I saw they were all able to lighten up a bit.
It's another beautiful day, but rain is in the forecast, so I'm going to mow the lawn here in a bit.

I am a boredom eater too. I need to give away a bunch of the baked goods to make room. They are in the freezer so I don't eat them on my boredom binges.
Rori-So sorry for your loss.
We had a little tribute to my friend who passed away over this weekend. It gave me some closure.
Now, if I could only get some closure on all my other issues.
Happy June to all.

Debbie - Glad it all went off ok. Good that you gave your dad a good send off. In time your mum might have to reconsider her lifestyle, but she needs time right now. You are doing a great job.
My WhatsApp video with the Mexican guy went well. We shared the time to speak English and Spanish. I don’t feel he is the most interesting person, but I so rarely get the chance to speak any Spanish at all as the grandkids are reluctant. (They go to a bilingual school) I listened to a couple of videos during the day to get my ear in and sorted out a bit of vocab. I'm less rusty than I thought.
Strange to be able to video chat to a stranger on the other side of the world!!! A miracle!
Having my hair trimmed tomorrow afternoon.

I had a little shopping spree. I went to Walgreens to get an ice bag for DH and also bought a paper back book from one of my favorite authors. He has an ouch from bumping his head in a fall. Our old ice bag was worn out so got him a new ice bag, I went to ACE and bought a new tomato plant. It is already in the ground and has drip water from our water system. It is a happy day. :bigsmile:6

Did a body pump DVD today then went for my walk. Leaving tomorrow to go see Denise so no formal exercise. Since we’ll be up there, no formal exercise planned for Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun, or next Mon.
pip – is it very humid where you are? I remember one time it was 102 here in NC, I was convinced we were going to die. But it really wasn’t bad at all because it’s not humid.
Barbie – yea you’ll get to teach again
Jodi – welcome! The name of the thread may be “Women 50+” but that certainly doesn’t exclude someone who is 50! We’re glad you’re here
Evelyn – if you come up with something to keep you out of the kitchen, let me know what it is. I need it BADLY
Rebecca – Love, love, love those pics of Athena. Keep them coming
Walking: lately my morning walk has been my aerobic walk, mainly because it isn’t real hot. My evening walk (if I take it) is usually the leisurely walk
Janetr – glad to see ya! It’s been way too long
Debbie – what a wonderful daughter you are!

You ladies are just the BEST, thank you so much for your kind comments.
Jack and I are doing well, he's been gone now for 3.5 weeks helping his brother take care of their 90 yo mother with dementia. Jack's brother has recurring cancer in a couple places, he meets with oncologist and radiologist on Wednesday to discuss radiation. Jack will need to be there throughout that process.
My oldest grandson and his wife of less than three years have split up due to him going back to using drugs. He has been in and out of rehab since he was 17, he'll turn 28 in August. It's heartbreaking to watch.
My great-grandson, Jaxx, is not developing as he should. He's 14 months old and the size of an 8 -9 mo old. He is getting physical therapy and working with a nutrition specialist. Doctors are conferring on which specialist needs to see him. I wish they'd hurry up.
I maintained my weight well through the pabdemic, but now with stressful situations and Jack being gone for so long, I've let it creep up. Have to stop that trend now.
Despite the gloom and doom above, I do have so very much to be thankful for and certainly my friends here are on my "thankful for" list.

Thanks for the great welcome! I appreciate that. ❤️
I got back to the gym today after about a year and it felt good. I did better than expected! 30 min/6 miles on the bike, then 30 minutes of legs/abs. I’m sure I’ll feel it in the morning, we will see!
Hope everyone had a great Tuesday! 😊4 -

Pip – I don’t mind dry heat, either.
Janetr – boy, you sure have a lot on your plate!
Anne DE – Ever since I fractured by foot, the doctor has told me to avoid lunges since they put strain on that bone and it’s already fragile. What I’ve been doing is not being on my toes but more the ball of my foot. I hope this is OK
Went for a walk in the neighborhood next to ours. I thought it was one big loop like ours, only it’s not. I thought for sure I got more steps in than the pedometer says I did. Especially since I took a walk this morning.
Not sure when Vince plans to load the car. Won’t get in many steps and no formal exercise tomorrow. Poor Denise sounds so overwhelmed with PJ and the fact that Pete is gone for days at a time at work probably doesn’t help much. If she lived closer, I could help more. But she doesn’t.

Hello Ladies, have lurked on this thread for a bit, but decided it was time to introduce myself and join in the conversation. In 2019 I had a very successful 50 lb weight loss journey that derailed during the pandemic resulting in a gain of 25 lbs. I want to get back on track and need accountability and like minded woman to help me get my motivation back. This thread is so active and I really enjoy that. Hopefully I can motivate and inspire along the way as well. Goals: eat better, move more, be active again in MFP and to lose 10 lbs this month.
