Tracey- I completely understand! I am still fighting the same fight. We will get through this!
Julie- You do sound much better!
Hugs to all!
This is a journey. There are mountains and valleys. With support we can have an easier trip. I love the support and camaraderie of this group.
Thank you all!

Janetr-sorry to hear about Jack's brother (I've lost his relationship). It sounds like a very serious situation.
Ginny in Ohio
Ginny, I'm sorry for the confusion. Jack is my husband, so his brother is my brother-in-law. I call my sweet mother-in-law, Mama S. Hope that helps rather than muddy it further.

Happy World Bicycle Day
https://www.un.org/en/observances/bicycle-day
"Why celebrate the bicycle?
Regular physical activity of moderate intensity – such as walking, cycling, or doing sports – has significant benefits for health. At all ages, the benefits of being physically active outweigh potential harm, for example through accidents. Some physical activity is better than none. By becoming more active throughout the day in relatively simple ways, people can quite easily achieve the recommended activity levels."
This week has been a wonky one with a house inspection (and the cleaning required for that), pilates, an all-day meeting at work yesterday, and my cycling club's AGM yesterday.
But I'm climbing stairs, walking, and then there was that pilates session which focused heavily on abs.

Barbie, I have a serious case of iris envy! Yours are gorgeous!
Tracey, unfortunate when the higher ups don't understand something and aren't willing to admit or show it so that others can't get the job done! Hoping it gets easier!
Janetr, so nice to see you again! So sorry to hear that your brother in law is not doing well.
Lisa, I sure hope that the battery of tests will find something, anything.....
Pip, great score on the love seat!
I know there were more that I wanted to reply too, but I read most of the posts earlier and on my tablet and didn't take notes. And it turns out I can't rely on my memory! lol Oh well, it is what it is.
Went for a bike ride this morning and then was a bit of a slug all afternoon. Had great intentions, but they didn't work out. Anyway, was feeling rather guilty this evening so invited hubby to go for a walk. We went just under 4 km, which is pretty much the max for hubby. He has heart issues as well as nerve damage from a herniated disk, so I can't push him too far. But, it burned another 300 calories for me and doubled my step count, which put me over 10,000. Yay! Time to call it a night now, tho.
Hugs for those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

It's my baby boy's 42nd birthday today!
Here he is this week on his holiday in the Isle of Wight, going for an early morning cycle ride with DDIL.
I love the outfits!
We shall see them all on Sunday for an outdoor meal at Fatto a Mano. The restaurant will only seat up to 6 together indoors, although the covid laws are 2 households. Grrr! Anyway, it will be fab to meet up and hear all about their holiday. A house with 8 adults and 7 children.
I have been idly looking at cycles. I would only use it for cycling along the front into town, so would like one very sedate and suitable for shopping. A wicker basket on the front and a rack on the rear. I probably won't bother as we walk everywhere.
I was wondering, Machka, with your possible commute, if you could entertain the idea of an ebike. It would help with that long hill, though, of course, it wouldn't help with the traffic!

Hi all!
Hugs and condolences to Rori You've been a model of conscientious patience and perseverance throughout Bruce's decline. Heaven forbid I'm ever put in that position, but if I am, I hope to handle it with the same calm grace.
Welcome to the many newbies and golden oldies. I'm looking at you, Janetr For the newbies who wonder if it's possible to lose weight after 50 my answer is YES! I'm 66.
I read an article about a man who lost a lot of weight during the pandemic simply by adding an hour of moderate exercise every day. (This was a MAN, mind you.) But I was inspired and set myself the goal of taking at least 10,000 steps a day. I've been at it since February. I didn't change anything else. Still the same food, still the shared bottle of wine one evening a week. The result has been a slow but very steady weight loss totalling 9 pounds.
Our apartment in Svalbard is emptying and looking ever more forlorn as our move approaches. On Tuesday we flew down to Tromsø with seven pieces of checked luggage (we who otherwise always travel light!). We dumped most of it at our place in town and headed out to the island, because it was high time to plant the potatoes.
So yesterday, while my husband was having a video meeting, I dug through the potato patch. He came out briefly and helped shape the rows before his next video meeting. I then set out the potatoes and covered them.
It was hard work but didn't register as steps, so I went out for a run before dinner...cityjaneLondon wrote: »Heather wrote — Went for my run. It was HOT! It was 20°C here (68°F) and the heat darn near killed me! I've become so accustomed to running in Svalbard that my temperature optimum ranges a few degrees above or below freezing.
My daughter and I had planned to run this year's Spitsbergen half-marathon this Saturday, but it was cancelled (Covid-19). We've agreed to run it virtually instead: she'll run in Stockholm and I'll run here at the northern end of mainland Norway. If I can. Maybe I'll go for an early start. Saturday's forecast calls for 50°F until noon.
Meanwhile, I've got to get the rabbit fence up around the strawberry patch, stake the raspberries, dig through the vegetable beds and sow seeds. On Monday we'll fly "home" to Longyearbyen again — for the last time.

I’d love to join this group. I will be 50 in October, hope that’s ok. If not let me know. This is probably my 3rd time on MFP, hoping to stick with it this time. I have about 50 lbs I’d like to lose. I was doing great before covid when my gym shut down, I kept working out at home and eventually lost my motivation so gained some weight back unfortunately. I start back at the gym today, kinda nervous, feels like I’m starting completely over.
Hope everyone has a great day!
Jodi
AZ
Welcome Jodi! I'm fairly new to this group as well and also from AZ. I am in the 50 pound hope to lose club. I've been up and down for years. Covid and hubby's health allowed me to get out of control. Ready to be more comfortable in my skin.

Barbara in Southern Oregon,
Hubby had both a liver and kidney transplant in 2015. He's actually been doing quite well until this little setback. I spoke to the lead physician at the transplant center for over 20 minutes today and we have a plan in action to get his labs back to normal. Definitely feel better as sometimes it seems like they throw the relatively stable patients to the wolves and it takes an act of heaven for anyone to respond. Ok, end of rant.

Progress Update:
I have been maintaining quite well the last 6 months. Hovering between 140 and 145. I even dipped down below 140 for one day 😂 I am happy to stay here for now, weighing daily, portion control, logging CI/CO, regular exercise, healthy home cooked food, and daily small indulgences are my current daily habits.
I have much for which to be thankful!

I’m not Machka but I’m the other regular bike rider in the group. You can totally commute, it will make it a bit easier on any hills that you have there. All of my riding was in the city and in traffic. The job I retired from was like 13mi to work then run the last 1/2mi. That had a few hills. Just have to learn bike etiquette if you don’t know it already and get good lighting for visibility2 -

It's going to be chaos here this morning. The new cleaning service is coming and I have a telehealth session so I won't be able to help them. The dog will be upset and my microphone has been unreliable. So my goal for the morning is to keep my dog from interfering and getting hurt, and whatever else happens is out of my hands.
My horseback riding will probably cancel for strong storms this afternoon. They may just pass over us, but I'm nervous.
My other issue is figuring out how to buy a copy of MS Word. Looks like I have to buy Office. This is personal use on a single device. The question is whether to get a subscription for a year, or a purchase that might go out of date soon. Hmm.
So lots going on today. May you all be happy and healthy,

I could commute with an ebike but ... there is the traffic situation and there's nowhere to put the bike when I get there. The bicycle parking issue is the main reason why I don't cycle to work and why I have entertained the idea of trying my folding bike.
It's ...
1) Bike parking - what on earth do I do with my bicycle when I get there.
2) Traffic - it just keeps getting heavier.
3) Hills
The owner of our building does not like bicycles and has banned them from anywhere within the building or in the parking garage. Cyclists have been provided with some spots in the rubbish bin cage which is not very secure. There are about 10 or maybe 15 spots for a 10-storey building and about 100 people per floor. It was first come, first serve and you had to be there early. Now I think there's a pass card to get into the cage and it has been handed out to the 10 or 15 really regular cyclists.
The rest of us have been told that we can park our bicycles on the rack outside one of the hospitals a couple blocks away if the rack has space (it is one small rack and is usually full) or in one of the parking garages that actually has racks for the general public even further away. Those choices are even less secure than the rubbish cage and there's no way of knowing if there will be room.

Happy Thursday Everyone. Sipping my morning coffee and enjoying all the posts on this thread. Everyone is so inspirational. Rainy day here in NY but hoping it will stop so I can get the last of my flower pots planted. You ladies have motivated me to make sure I start including regular exercise in my routine. June is about small goals for me and just checking in here everyday is one of them.
Have a wonderful day ladies!!5 -

Heather: You were a very cute girl back in school days. How old were you in this photo? I see your son’s grown up face in reflected in your long ago school photo. :flowerforyou:
Allie: I hope you and your group are able to enjoy a dinner out together.
Susabella: Welcome! Congratulations on being a survivor!
DH and I had dinner out last evening at a favorite Thai Restaurant that has reopened under a new name. The food is excellent and the chef & waiter are the same people as before the pandemic forced closure of many local restaurants. I am happy that they have been able to reopen. The chef, herself, checked our vaccination cards before she allowed the waiter to serve us. I suspect he may be her son.

I have the next 11 days off. I took these days with the goal of warding off the darkness! When I work, I hardly see any daylight at all. I don't see our garden. I don't see our view out to the bay. I'm inside working all day and when I go home in the evening, everything is pitch black and quite chilly. And since I'm in the southern hemisphere and our shortest daylight hours fall in June, we don't have the benefit of all the Christmas lights out and about during the northern hemisphere's shortest daylight hours.
So I took time off now in order to see daylight.
It looks like it's supposed to be kind of rainy but that's OK, it's still daylight even if it rains. And hopefully there is some dryness so we can get out and ride our bicycles.
The plan for tomorrow is to plant bulbs. We'll see how that goes. Believe it or not, I've never planted bulbs before.

I am really enjoying our "post" (almost, kinda, sorta) pandemic stories. Though as awful as it has been to be separated from family and friends, not able be to dine out at restaurants, having to mask up to take a walk outside, I do believe it's given us all new JOY and a true thankfulness for all the little things we take for granted. I truly laughed yesterday when Katla was absolutely over the moon about being able to attend her aerobics class. I hope we all can enjoy and truly learn from this to be thankful for all we have that we take for granted.
Love and appreciate you my dear friends. It rather escapes me how we can make friends and truly care about people we have never actually met, but there you are, one more thing to be thankful for.
Ok, I promise I'm finished with my philosophical ramblings for today.
Janetr KC
KATLA In retrospect, I certainly don't want you to feel like I was making fun of you for being happy yesterday to be able to attend your class, it truly struck me that we are blessed to be "peiple who need peope". I loved that you shared your joy with us7
