July 2021 Monthly Running Challenge

Sorry guys. Skipping a lot.
I cancelled my Auckland race at the end of October. I'm just not feeling it and won't be race ready. There is a local run in November I'm tempted to train for, but am kinda just waiting to see how the next month goes.
I kinda feel relieved cancelling it. So right decision.
As for running, I'm just getting out the door regularly. I'm kinda just following my watch a bit. Which it fun.11 -
@abowersgirl wrote: »@Teresa502 so I joined your run the world challenge.. I was wondering if it supported Fitbit.. if not I can enter manually, doesn't matter. Was also wondering.. should I add what I have done between the challenge times as well or just start adding everything from today forward (btw my name is Stephanie F
It does not sync with Fitbit. Fitbit is what I use and I manually input mine into Strava and allow it to sync to Challenge Hound. The other question, is up to you, whatever you feel like doing.

If I found someone who wanted it. Has to be soon, cause only have till the 8th August1 -

Good you found someone to take it.
The biggest downer about the Auckland Marathon was that it was bought by Ironman and they've made it way more expensive to enter, replaced the free Asics t-shirt with a free hat, and transfers are no longer the bargain they used to be. In the first few years I ran it, I would buy a transfer entry off TradeMe about 10 days out from the event for about $50 with a $12 transfer fee. Now, buying a transfer entry works out to be the same as a full price one, making it difficult to sell them because there's no real reason to buy one unless the event is sold out, which it doesn't (it used to sell out in a few weeks, oddly, it no longer does now that Ironman owns it!)3 -

Sadly haven't found anyone yet. Trying lol. But yeah it's so expensive.0 -
Sorry @avidkeo, I missed the ‘if’ in your post. Can you delay until next year? But yes, Ironman are all about the money!1
-
So this is what the outside world looks like!10
-
@Avidkeo I hope you can find someone to transfer your entry to. Maybe check with a local running store or group and ask them? Glad you feel relieved after making the decision. I always take that to mean I've made the right decision too.
@TheMrWobbly Glad your back. Been missing seeing you on here.2 -

A huge rock on the sidewalk jumped up and tripped me this morning. Or maybe I didn’t see it in the dark nor pick my foot up enough to clear it…. My hand took the worst of the fall. I found a sprinkler in a yard about a mile later and rinsed it off and then stopped at a grocery store and got some peroxide thinking that wouldn’t be as painful as alcohol. FYI – peroxide hurts too!
@quilteryoyo – that’s crazy that you were carded for buying sport beans and Honey Stingers! I love the Honey Stinger waffles.
@abowersgirl – I see that @AlphaHowls answered your questions which is good because I didn’t have the answers! The challenge was set up by @TheMrWobbly who I see popped in this morning! We’ve missed you @TheMrWobbly!

Sunny, upper 60s F, and very little wind. Saw a nice 8 point buck on the way to the chiropractor this morning, so the day started off very well.
@Avidkeo Hope everything works out for you.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!

They didn't have Gu at this particular store. Anyway, I was very surprised when I was "carded" at the cash register. Apparently, you have to be over 18 to buy one of those - I think it was the Extreme Sport Bean. Is that a thing everywhere?
That's interesting. I have definitely never been carded for anything energy/fuel related.
@Teresa502 Ouch! Stupid jumping rocks.
@TheMrWobbly Good to see you!2 -
@TheMrWobbly glad to see you come up for air!
@Teresa502 ouch, sorry about the fall and the peroxide. That stuff hurts.
@quilteryoyo what? Carding for sports beans? Maybe it's store policy not to sell highly caffeinated items to kids but I've never heard of that.
@avidkeo glad you feel good about your decision and hope you can find someone to transfer to.

Probably should have got up and out earlier. It was 88F when I went out and bright sun. Ugh6 -
Ahhh just been out for an 8.5k run. Was supposed to be a base run, watch seems to think it was a tempo run. I doubt that, it was a fairly easy run but who knows. Definitely could have kept going. Best I've felt in WEEKS! I think basically being sick foe the last month really got me down. I also noticed the sun is getting up earlier, yay haha.8

@katharmonic Glad you got to catch up with your friend today. Also glad your temp and humidity is better today.
Thank you @quilteryoyo. I'm hoping to do a long run on Saturday, possible 20 miles plus if I can.6 -
I'm glad you weren't hurt too badly @Teresa502 ! Peroxide doesn't always hurt, but it can. I still use it because I feel that it clean out the wounds better.
@Teresa502 , @martaindale , @katharmonic It was crazy to be carded for sports items. I was shocked. Wonder if it is a TN law or something. I may need to look that up, when I have time.
@skippygirlsmom Nice run in those conditions.
Glad you had such a good run @Avidkeo and that you are feeling better.

I worked the 6:30 - 3:30 shift at daycare today, which means I set my alarm for 4 and get up at 4:30. So, a very early morning for me. When I got home, I went straight down to do my recovery run on the treadmill. I knew if I didn't, I would have a really hard time doing it later. I ran 2.1 miles in 30:00 at 4.2 mph. My HR was in Zone 2 for 94% of the run instead of Zone 1, but averaged 136 bpm, so I'm okay with that.6 -
Heat index 122! Booyah! Dew point 83!
Pictures or it didn’t happen…
Looks like a nice day for a long run!
So, exactly noon was the time slot we had, thus, we ran. But not very fast or very far. We altered our usual course to circle by our car at the midpoint so we could refill water bottles with fresh ice water. Took walk breaks as needed. Was aiming for 10k running and 8 miles total, got about 5.5 running and 7.5 miles total. It was about as fun as you’d expect. Could have been worse, we had shade part of the way and something like a breeze. Still felt like the oven door when you open it. My shirt was so wet by the time we finished it was like I had jumped in a swimming pool.
I also forgot to eat my orange before heading out, so after about 5k I suddenly bonked. Didn’t feel all that overheated, was going geez what is wrong with me… oh yeah, fuel! Fortunately husband had some candy so I took a candy break and resumed.
All things considered I’m pleased with the run. Usually I have a terrible time coping with heat, and today was miserable externally but internally I didn’t feel all that bad.9 -
Holy moly @rheddmobile 122F heat index!!!! And you CHOSE to run??? You are officially insane 🤣😜
But seriously, you are MUCH tougher than me. Just be careful if you do that again.
@Teresa502 glad you weren't too hurt from that jumping rock!
@quilteryoyo I have bought sports beans (once) before at Academy Sports and wasn't carded. But you look much younger than me though ☺️
But no, that's crazy to card for sports nutrition products.4 -
Wow @rheddmobile ! You guys are amazing crazy beasts running in those conditions. Glad you listened to your body and took needed walk breaks and had plenty of water.
I thought it was weird too @Scott6255 . I did a little research and have been unable to find any laws that restrict their sale in TN, so not sure why the local Walmart has chosen to do so.1 -

7/27: 4.34 miles
110.14/100 miles completed for July
The plan for today was 3 miles in 30 minutes at 10:06 mi/min. The run ended up at 4.36 miles in 44 min at 10:02 mi/min. I thought I did a pretty good job on the pace, but I did run further than Hal told me to so now he gives me a B-. I suppose I should still do what the plan calls for. I enjoyed the run though.
I am hopelessly behind on the thread, but I will have to catch up tomorrow because I am too sleepy to read.

Well ironman may suck but runners really do have the biggest hearts!
I thought I could on sell my entry to the HM at the price I paid, and someone was keen to take it. Turns out you can do that. Yes you can transfer to someone else, but they have to pay the current rate, not the early bird special you paid. So makes transfer kinda pointless.
Well a lovely lady was happy to do the transfer anyway so I can get my refund. Its a difference of around $45 so not a huge amount but a difference worth getting.
I love the running community.
Oh and I can see why they don't, otherwise everyone would buy up early bird spots to on sell I guess?7 -
Yay @Avidkeo! Glad you got to sell your race entry at face value.
8 hot miles this morning. If I do another 8 on Friday I will have surpassed the most mileage in a month ever. Wasn't even trying to do that, but it's a nice benchmark going into 15K race training next month.

I was thinking about @AlphaHowls incredible feat of 365+ days running a HM (or more) and just for grins wondered what the world record for most consecutive days for running a HM was. Turns out it is only 78 !!!! And the women who has done it has aspirations to do 100 in a row. Our @AlphaHowls COMPLETELY shattered that record, and is still going 🤯

I had to be at work too early yesterday to run before. Of course, its really hot right now and I was kind of dreading running after work. But, a storm blew in. So, I ate dinner and waited that out and was rewarded with a 20F drop in temperature and a little bit of sprinkling while I did my run. It was honestly really a lovely run.
Also, so far I am enjoying this a gentle half marathon training plan. The lower mileage has made it easier for me to ease back into training without feeling like I am killing myself.6
