Katla - it’s annoying when wool isn’t as good as you think it’s going to be. It just makes things so much more difficult.
Happy birthday to you and Karen
Flea and Julie- my heart goes out to you daily. Dealing with your health/cancer issues must be a trial. (((Hugs))) to you both.
The last for five days I’ve been much busier than I expected. We’ve been doing a lot of work in the garden and keeping plants watered is quite difficult as the weather is still dry and hot. Nothing like the temperatures you have nothing more than low 20s centigrade. But we’re just not used to those temperatures.
Still moseying along following my new habits. It’s been over two years now that I’ve been In maintenance, and I think I just have to accept that I have reached my optimal weight. At least that’s what it says on my SmartBMI assessment this morning.
I’m working on flexibility and improving muscle tone. I expect it will have an effect eventually.
@Faetta - it’s good to see you posting here again
Heather - I am impressed by what you have done so far to market your memoir. You’re doing a grand job on it.
Welcome to our new folk.
Love to everyone.

my situation is next to nothing compared to flea and many others. going to see specialist tomorrow again. it's true every 3 month visits is often! I should write to the hospital and see what they decided about my case. presumably not very urgent if they havent written to me.2 -

Viv UK -- I hope your doctor is able to help with the knee pain. Rejoining the ladies who lunch groups sounds like a good idea.
(((Flea))) -- Sending prayers and good thoughts your way.
Lisa – Incremental progress is progress. Every bit of progress is good. WTG!!! :flowerforyou:
KJ – Your daycare activities are awesome. The kids you care for are lucky to have you.
Yesterday was my birthday, and I got a phone call from a dear friend. We went to Junior High and Highschool together. It was a delightful surprise to hear from her. I also heard from our son and daughter in law.
Yoga today! Yay!!!

We are in a heat wave again. For us that is temps in the 90's. We are also in a drought, so voluntary water restrictions right now. Might become mandatory next week. Our air quality is bad too because of all the fires out west and in Canada so walks with Drew Morning and night and short. Short time out in middle of day in fenced yard.
Not an easy gardening year. Friend and I are debating to go to outdoor living museum on Friday. If we go we will only go in the morning.3 -
tried to get 1st reading glasses at this really discount place. I waited a long time for them to test my eyes since my vision has gone down in past months or even weeks. I could get by without reading glasses and now it's tough. but she didn't test astigmatism and the very quickly produced pair (less than 40 min) wasn't so clear.
I think my astigmatism has evolved and she didn't want to bother. when she was testing I told her it was clearer but wasn't very clear.
but tell me are reading glasses only supposed to help for a certain distance, no closer, no farther? like you can keep your book 15 inches away but not so much 12?
that's kind of how it was, but still not totally clear.
whinge :a bust! after waiting and paying and checking they said they can only give me.a refund in 2 weeks.
the manager had already yelled at the woman before me who had waited a very long time. She was speaking softly, but was frustrated about a long wait ; and he was yelling very loudly that she should keep her voice down. then he was extremely unpleasant with me. I'll spare the details but it was pretty shocking! I said I was going to record it. then he tried to insult me by whispering so I put the recording phone in front of my ear. then he tried to write on an insult on paper. and I was going to take a picture of it but he said I couldn't. and way more, but I'll spare you. I don't know what the insult is thank goodness. I was rather detached and saying: who is speaking loudly? He was a bit crazy; he said he won't be there in 2 weeks, so he didn't care about (not sure what). (maybe he quit or is getting fired?)
I've rarely seen such "management!".4 -

My reading lenses are best at a specific distance - about twelve inches.

The bathrooms and showers are very nice here. Bought myself a couple of blouses in solvang. I realized that I don’t have any girly blouses. I live my life in t shirts and men’s boxers, lololol. Went to the pool for a bit and wore my new one piece bathing suit. I am not a major fan of one piece suits cuz of the tan lines you get, doesn’t tan the mid section at all.

Katla, Happy Birthday! Sorry that I kind of missed the actual day (I know it's the 20th, but it's kinda late....)
Debbie, that garden is overwhelming!
Evelyn, Vancouver Island
It really is overwhelming most years but this year especially. Mom is trying to do the same size garden but dad isn't there to help, the neighbors who said they would come help do but months late and I am only up there for a weekend every two to three weeks. And mom is 78 yrs old.Add on the drought/low water pressure- mom is strong but this is so hard on her. This was the first really productive weekend I have had where I felt we were on the same page as to what needed to be done first. She is also worried about the fires- the last two in their area came VERY close to them (had to replace the roof of the green houses because the heat warped them).
I am just hoping the neighbors continue to come down. The reason she planted the huge garden is for it to be a community garden. Who ever wants to help work it can come down and enjoy the veggies when they are done-
I am hoping at least some give her a little money for what they get to help cover her costs. It is great to be generous like that but when she is on a very fixed income now(and not planning on selling to the restaurants this year- just doesn't have the energy to do it or the want to do it, maybe next year)
I will continue to go up. Looks like I will be learning even more about canning soon- I helped as a kid but it has been a long time.

Just trying to be mellow. Not easy sometimes.
Did walking meditation this morning and noticed how green everything is right now. We have had a lot of rain lately, for a desert 🌵. Peaceful out there.

Lisa One bite at a time! ((Hugs))
Btw- if anyone here does look at my diary, when I quick add calories it is only to close out day. It doesn't happen often, but some days I am just not that hungry or my choices are just that low in calories. I usually make up that deficit within a couple of days. 😉 last night I kind of wanted something before bed, but nothing sounded good. Had hot tea instead
Work calling my name....ugh.Thankful I have a job!

I do the same thing- usually put in USD Goldfish crackers- 100cal per serving and doesn't add any #'s for the sodium/sugar/fat/etc1 -

Could you ladies think positive thoughts regarding my eldest son here? He and a couple other sailors were hauled in for a talking to regarding they weren't wearing masks and they weren't vaccinated. Many of the higher ups are also choosing to not wear masks, nor are they vaccinated. The Navy has yet to order them to vaccinate up. Until its offically an order to get vaccinated, he isn't. So Thursday is a Captain's Mast. Worse case is they knock them down a rate, and with son having 14 years in, he would be out of the Navy. We're all hoping it gets dismissed. This was regarding a mask check in March and since then masks have been worn. Poor kid is beside himself.😢.
Thanks

Good morning all! Happy Wednesday!
Lisa- Your star quilt is so pretty! I think you did a wonderful job (and we are always too hard on ourselves by seeing our mistakes)!
Kiz- I am a childcare provider and have 10 kids in my care currently. My hubby is my assistant (who comes very close to being fired). This week is Farm Week; where we learn about farming and food. We were going to take a field trip to the local farmer's market in the town I live in. BUT four of my kiddos have entered this defiant/independent stage and I can't quite trust that they will listen and behave while we are out. So...we are postponing that trip for a couple of weeks and hopefully they will come around.
Flea- Sending big hugs to you! ((( )))
Rebecca and Tracey- Thank you for sharing the stories about life/community. I have found (just recently) that I am much more centered, if I allow myself time to do something fun (by myself or with other people). Even if it is just chatting over coffee at a shop in my own town. It is like a spiritual boost for my heart.
Machka- lol The tracks! This is how I feel a LOT lately (I am sure you do, too)! There is a portion of the bike path by my house that looks like that track. The incline is big enough (it is where it intersects with a driveway on a hill) that pedestrians and bikers need to make a swoop (either uphill or down hill) to make it past that point. My kiddos LOVE that spot and call it The Tippy Driveway. lol "Here comes The Tippy Driveway! Aaaaaaaaaah!" and they scream the entire time we walk across. They make me smile; but it is my least favorite part of our walk when we go that way, as it takes more strength to keep the stroller on the path.
Well, I am down six kiddos. Five to some sort of summer cold. Fever, cough, runny nose, and fatigue. All kids tested negative for covid and also for strep. Just a cold. The sixth kiddo was involved in a car accident and is home with a concussion (poor thing). Fever, headache, and vomiting. My guess is she will be home the entire week, because I am sure the noise and activity level here would not make her feel better. A very strange week so far.
It has been a fun week as far as our nature discoveries. Last week Monday, we found/collected 21 Monarch eggs. They all hatched and 17 of them have made it to the fat caterpillar stage! Yesterday, eight of them began the climb up the inside of the container they are in and are beginning to hang! We also found a house finch nest in one of my hanging plants! The mama laid five eggs! I had seen the adults flying in and out of the planter for a few days, so I had a feeling they had a nest there. I took the planter down Monday, after the kids were done playing in the kiddie pool, so I could set the planter in the pool to let it soak up some water. I let the kids peek in at the nest then. They are very excited. Plant was rehung about an hour later and mama hopped back in as soon as I walked away. Last night, I borrowed (from my sister in law) one of those bulb watering things that you stick in your potted plants; and I will use that for the time being to water that one. That way I don't disturb mama finch any more.
Well kids will be arriving. I better scoot! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)
I remember some of the walks I did with the triplet stroller- learned very fast which streets were better, where we fit and where we didn't- Some streets have ramps at the corners but a few didn't- that was a pain to go up and down with the three of them in the stroller. Some corners we couldn't go through because the stop sign was too close so we had to go in the street. Got lots of attention going down the street- purple triple wide stroller with the cuties-

Many good thoughts for your son, Rebecca. Hoping for the best case, not the worst.2 -
I got my oil changed but the exhaust is leaking. I need a new muffler system. That will be expensive!! There's always something expensive on the way. Too bad it isn't a sunny vacation!

I am back from Yoga, where I had a lovely time. We are supposed to have a local appliance store take away our old microwave and oven set because it quit working, and replace it with the new one that is siting in the garage. The new one has been sitting in our garage for more than a month, waiting to be installed. I am keeping my fingers crossed for the work to be done today.4

Did the aerobic portion of the Gilad 45/45 split DVD then went for my aerobic walk. The plan for tomorrow is to do the same DVD but this time the toning section
Annie DE – Yes, it IS very hard for me, but I try (and sometimes don't succeed...but I’m getting better at this) and the garbage can is being my friend. I was raised with the “don’t waste” mentality, and I’m trying to break that. Sometimes I succeed, sometimes I don’t. Maybe some of the food you bought can go there?
Tracey – Vince won a Google Nest. Really, the only thing I have it do is add things to my grocery list. I really should have it play music especially if I’m working on a craft at the table near it. During this pandemic when we were on lockdown, that’s the main reason I got the job at Food Ion – I needed to be with people. I admit that I did get used to having the money. But the main reason was to be in contact with people.
Around the block is about 1-1/2 mile and I seem to do it in 35 minutes. Is that a good time?
Cantstopher – welcome! Great goals
Rebecca – sending good thoughts for your son.
Ceramics tonight. Just came in from the pool.

DH is off to cricket tomorrow. I have a whole day to myself! Actually, I don't, because I have Singing Zoom and girlfriend Zoom in the afternoon. My difficult friend made a desperate dash back from France on Monday to beat the new red zone quarantine rule. She is still isolating at home, but it's better than a government order. I expect to hear all the details of the trauma.
I will have DimSum lunch and easy falafel and hummus flatbreads for dinner with lots of salad. That way DH can come home anytime and dinner is an easy assemblage.
I had registered for a Zoom this evening with a pressure group I belong to, but I heard nothing more and the Zoom link never materialised. Don't know what happened. A famous journalist was meant to be leading the discussion. I had put my face on specially.
I'm in the middle of watching a YouTube video about how to use Instagram. I am a complete beginner. My son on AATV immediately followed me, so he must have been notified through Facebook, though I deliberately didn't link it. A lot to learn. At the moment there is zilch to follow! I returned the compliment!
Thank you ladies who have offered help. I will let you know when I have got something to show. A blank page is not very exciting!
I am doing little baby steps.
Today I am nine pages from the end of the first edit.
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

I've rarely seen such "management!".
Really poor customer service!! I've actually stopped going to chain discount optical services. The last time I did they could not get my prescription right and finally I went with old-fashioned bifocals.
I have two pair of glasses. One is a distance pair of progressives which I wear while driving and cycling. I can read things closer up through the bottom, but where they excel is distance viewing.
The other are desk glasses. They are also progressives. Through the top, I can see probably about 10 metres away quite clearly and then things start to get a little blurry. Through the middle, I can see my computer screen reasonably clearly and it is about an arm's length away. Through the bottom, I can see the page I have on a stand to refer to or my phone, when they are about 30 cm (1 foot) away.
If I need to see detail really sharply, I take my glasses off and hold the item about a little less than 1 foot away. For example, when I'm lying in bed reading, I prefer to do that without my glasses. Or if when I colour, I've discovered I prefer to do that without my glasses too.

Flea - I’m so sorry you are going through this. I’m glad your son was with you though. Hugs and prayers.
Heather - thank you for the meme it made me literally LOL. I know the under the surface stuff is the pain in my hips and back. I made a step in the right direction today, I have a doctors appointment on Aug 5th. I’ve seen her before and have had physio but neither is helping. I’m going to have to demand an X-ray, ultrasound something this time and not let her tell me it will take time. It’s been 2 years of me babying this hip and since January of this year that I can’t do anything. I will go without pain for a day or two but then I drop something like a pen and have to bend to get it and I’m in pain again for days on end. There has to be a better way.
Hubby and I are also thinking of taking a couple days off together to go camping. We’ll see.
Kylia - I hope today was better for you, I don’t blame you for being upset with contractor. I miss having friends close by and dropping in for coffee. I haven’t had that since we moved to Alberta and I miss it terribly.
I’ve found nothing seems to interest me food wise right now. I stopped tonight though and bought some fruit that I’ve been picking at.
Kelly - I hope all the kiddos feel better soon. I don’t think I would know what a monarch egg looks like to allow it to grow.
Pip - that bathroom is beautiful for a campground! I have never worn a two piece that showed any middle. When I was a teen I had two surgery scars, then I had stretch marks. I shouldn’t have cared but did. Still do truthfully.
Debbie- does you Mom need to do this to supplement her income? It seems like a lot!
Goldfish crackers are one of my favourite snacks.
Rebecca - I’ll pray for your son. Can they mandate a vaccine? I don’t know if Canadian military can order it or not, civilian employers can’t.
Michele - I think I would work for some company too if when I’m older, retirement does not appeal to me because my only social life outside of my family is work.
Had a chat with my best friend tonight, just a short one but sometimes that’s all I need. We have been friends since the first day of grade 2. We haven’t lived near each other since we were 18 though. Besides my husband she knows me better than anyone I think.
I am going to try a hot bath and se rid that helps any of my pain tonight. Might also dig the heating pad out again. I stopped for a while and I think it was a mistake. It’s hard to sit with it when it was so incredibly hot. Cooler tonight.
Tracey in Edmonton
