My grandparents ' garden. I think I was 12 or 13. My brother would have been 10 ish. I loved that dress and the stiff petticoats underneath. It's one of the few I didn't sew myself. Date? Around 1961.
A close up view.

Lee thought I had lost my marbles because I messed up our photo albums to make that. But something I put out during the holidays, the Gossett Holiday Tome.
I am down 2 more lbs, and sometime this weekend, need to find my measuring tape to measure myself, so I have some sort of starting point. The tape measure will be my friend monthly, more than the pissy scale.

Growing up, one of my best friend's last name was Gossett- Not sure if you have any relatives down here. Her dad's name was Carroll- he and my dad were very close friends until Carroll passed away. The day my dad passed away, her sister posted that she was sure our dad's were sitting in heaving catching up.

Barbara, the Southern Oregon Coastie AHMODAwe, don't admire me!🙃😂😁. I just don't make putting sugar in my coffee an option. I envision a big bowl, and every time I scowl when I sip my coffee, I put 3 tsp of sugar in my mental bowl. I used to drink 4 mugs no problem, a day! Eeek! Can you just see a weeks worth of sugar piled up!?? I keep saying to myself, I am not a hummingbird, I am a strong grizzly bear, just catching fish in a river! Or quietly munching on berries in the forest.

Rebecca - I bet that made your son quite happy!
Allie - did you have to drive back to your home not the camp yesterday?
I think a lot of teens get moody, but I was always one to be called out on it and I sure did it with my girls when they were teens. That’s great news about disability. I hope you get some rest today.
Kim - Happy Birthday!
What a great way of handling your Godchildren. I’ve done things like that too. Teaching them consequences is a powerful lesson.
Our youngest was terrible for saying she was going to one friends house but switching and we couldn’t find her. Cells were a thing, but we didn’t allow our girls to have them. She didn’t understand how worried we would get. One night after trying to get her to understand we decided to show her. We told her we were going for groceries. We went to a movie too. She was in tears when we got home. She is 30 and hasn’t been living at home since she was 19, but if she’s going away for a weekend or something she still lets me know where she’s going and when she expects to be home.
Evelyn - a friend of mine was spending her last vacation night camping in BC last night when it started down-pouring. She was quite happy to see rain for the region, but was dreading packing up the campsite with the wet.
I had a wonderful visit with my daughter yesterday. Her pup is such a sweetheart and there are talks that of everything goes well I’ll be having another grandchild next summer. It will be a process for them but they are hopeful it will happen in October/November.
Today I am going to organize my paints I brought home and may go into work for just a couple of hours.
I can’t decide if I want to just be behind starting my week or get caught up a bit to make the week easier.

Yep! He is friends with the guy, and the guy pulled thru on his promise of getting the truck here for the show! I think the truck will stay here in WA and not go to Guam, because the heat might not be the best. Its not really a daily vehicle like his Japanese van is.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the Olympics this year. 🙂 And I watched all sorts of sports I don't normally watch!
I'm probably going to feel a little bit lost for a few days like I do when the Tour de France ends.
Machka in Oz
The Olympics are pretty much the only sports I watch- Will miss these for a short time but then the Paralympics will be starting and will watch them as well-

Happy birthday to Machka's DH. Hope you had a nice day.
Happy, happy birthday Kim!!
Went to church this morning. Got shelves moved off the gazebo and into a storage area of the barn. Now to get things moved out of the library closet and out to the shelves. The things in question do not even belong to us but to DD's ex-boyfriend. We have been storing them for him for some time but now need the room for mom and he has since moved to a larger apartment so he needs to come get them.
Dentist appointment tomorrow.

Happy birthday Kim- hope it is a wonderful day0

went to church this morning- Napa County is back on mandatory masks inside. Got in church and saw, at most, only six with masks on. Husband didn't go with me and now that he knows most aren't wearing them, I am pretty sure he will be staying home on the few Sundays he is off and could go. It wasn't a full house-many on vacation but still should have been a lot more with masks on

Did Essentrics Classical Stretch DVD then went for my walk. The plan for tomorrow is to do a body pump DVD
Allie – that’s wonderful that you were granted disability. Now if Tom wants lower alimony, that’ll be something more on your side. I’m happy for you. At $300-400 a night for the wedding, you’d think that the bride and groom would pick up that tab – or at least part of it.
Nice day today so I’ll probably go in the pool. I do want to get 3 more bottles of honey before they aren’t producing any more (around October)
Went in the pool, bought the honey (I think they might have undercharged me), then stopped at Dollar General to see if they got the Halloween dishtowels in – not yet.
Vince is grilling right now for next week. Have cod, hamburgers (that I want to get out of the freezer), and chicken.
Went for my evening walk then played mahjongg. Took a shower and will probably work on the jigsaw puzzle a bit more.
Mahjongg tomorrow night should be interesting...in a word. I was of the impression that when Susie couldn't host (like now because she's away) that they would play online so that I could play. Well, that didn't happen last week. Dianne asked someone else to play so they could play at her house. That's where we used to play last year before the pandemic. So I wrote to her that I was of the impression that they'd play online so I could play. I have a feeling that she might not like the fact that I challenged her. So they're going to be playing online. I intend to go in the pool, then play, then maybe go in the pool just to cool off after the games.

Allie, a few years ago we were invited to the wedding of the daughter of one of Jake's very good long time friends. The wedding was in Seattle which would have required that we travel a bit and stay over in a hotel as well as board the dogs for three nights and buy new clothes because we had nothing even faintly appropriate for the event. After a bit of soul searching, we sent our regrets and sent a gift that was a bit more than we would have normally spent for a wedding gift and felt very happy about our decision.

Ok so 1st day back in control on my eating for about 6 days. Mostly I've just ate too much not necessarily bad foods. I think if I continue to stress eat and can't get it under control I'm going to have to seriously think about quitting whether the job gets better or not. I'm at an age and state of health that my health has to be a priority.
I do think though that I can do both. I'm going to work toward that.
I also need to do another gallbladder cleanse soon.
Had Kofta for dinner and it was yummy. It's a greek minced lamb dish. Paired it with roasted veggies and a yogurt sauce.
Need figure out something to do with snapper tomorrow as I bought a lovely snapper at the store today.
My niece and her daughter got to visit my grand nephew and got moved into an apartment. The next court hearing is Aug. 20th and they are going to see if they can regain custody. I don't see it happening that fast but I hope it does.
I have baby seahorses and hope I can keep them alive for a few more days. I raise them but have been having trouble keeping up all the work for them lately.
Got a small portion of my garden cleared, so maybe this week I can get some zucchini planted.
My husband replaced the lawn mower engine so I spent an hour mowing the lawn. MFP says that's worth 228 calories. Doesn't seem like it since it's a rider but I'll take it.
Olympic events: Gymnastics floor, high jump, ice skating (you didn't say it had to be summer sport).
Tomorrow is a new day. It's a chance to be a new me.2 -
Hmm I'm not used to thinking of myself as an athlete at all! But equestrian, ice skating, and weightlifting. Equestrian because I love horses and communicating with them, ice skating because it's beautiful, and weightlifting because it's such a primitive challenge. Or maybe kayaking, I love that too.
In second grade, this kid Scott had a project to find out everyone's favorite teams in three sports. I couldn't even name three teams. He had to help me choose, and it was an eye opener for both of us.

Tonight I fried up some thick bacon bits, some ham, then added 4 whipped eggs, cooked it all on the burner, then popped it in the oven for a wee bit. Added crumbled sharp cheddar cheese, melted that using the broiler. Then plopped on a tortilla, and let that get warm under the broiler. Took it out and flopped it over onto a plate. It was for son, so I added salsa on it and folded it over and cut it in three pieces. It was heavenly he said!

Julie agree there are health benefits to sunshine but we who have had skin cancer must take precautions, sunscreen, hats, long sleeves. I think a little sun exposure in the early morning is less damaging than later in the day, but have not had the courage to test this theory with my dermatologist
Machka what a handsome fellow Rhody is!
Allie please check with your local AARP tax volunteer, some of your disability income could be taxable, depending on your other income (e.g. alimony, investments, etc). Bet it will be nice to get that first check any way!!! SMH at your cousin. You’re better off not spending time with such folk.
Rita ((hugs))
Heather lovely pic of you and your family in your grandmother’s garden. Your mother’s mother?
Michele I’m vicariously enjoying your pool !
Joe surprised me this morning by agreeing to give the dogs a run on the beach. It was lovely, early, foggy and very very low tide. Lots of sea stars, anemones, snails and little darting things in the tidepools. Tumble went “puddling” and rolled ecstatically in the sand. Shadow ran and ran and ran and was so happy to be cone free for an hour. Joe was quite communicative in the car on the way and I really enjoyed listening. What a great way to start the day!

I just got an invitation to a 5 Week Mindfulness Program for Carers which I will ignore. For one thing, it's at a time when I'm at work (evidently carers are meant to have all kinds of time for such things). For another thing, Mindfulness leaves me more stressed and anxious.
However, over the past several weeks, I've been giving thought to what does help stress and anxiety. These are some of my conclusions:- Deal with the problem . For me, it's better to spend 1.5 hours a week actually solving aspects of things that are making me stressed than sitting and trying not to think about aspects of things that are making me stressed. In other words, if a messy house, or bill paying, or paperwork or other things are piling up - set aside some time and deal with them. Obviously I can't fix my main stressor but I can reduce the stress from secondary things.
- Prioritise . Deal with the most urgent of stressors first. Drop things which are not necessary or enjoyable.
- Exercise . Exercise gives me a feeling of accomplishment. If I've done nothing else in a day, but have walked a few km or climbed 27 flights of stairs or have gone for a run or bicycle ride, then I've accomplished something that day. I've burned some calories and increased my endorphin level and I've made a bit of progress toward my exercise goals.
- Nature . I love being outside. I generally feel better when I'm outside. I feel good when I'm surrounded by trees. Watching waves roll into shore makes me smile. I relax when I look out over blue water. And I was surprised how much I enjoyed planting bulbs in our garden!
So it's even better if I can combine exercise and nature. I had so much fun doing the 6 km trail run the other weekend ... probably the most fun I've had in a while! - Sleep . I am trying to get a bit more sleep each night and even more sleep on the weekends. It helps to have every other Friday off!
- Creativity, games, etc. . Since I have finished my degree, I have enjoyed things like my Rubiks Cube (still haven't got more than 3 sides, but I work on it from time to time) and my colouring books. I want to get into more photography again and I've got a few jigsaw puzzles I'd like to start soon. Colouring has been a revelation for me. I can lose myself in getting little details just right.
- Reading . That's something I've always enjoyed.
- Music . I enjoy listening to all sorts of different kinds of music. Different music for different moods. I often sing along and my husband kindly tells me I sing well. I'm pretty sure I don't really but there's something stress relieving about singing. However, one day I would like to get a keyboard and relearn to play piano.
- Prayer . "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks." (1 Thessalonians 5: 16-18) while I'm doing all of the above.

Off to meet my friend G for lunch in Portsmouth. It's blowy and miserable, but I have a train journey (tickets bought), lunch indoors, (Monday, usually not busy) and a covered shopping mall to wander in afterwards.
I don't know if the gutter man will come as rain is forecast again. DH will have to stay in to greet the cleaner and explain that she can't hoover my study/bedroom/guest room because there are photographs all over the floor!
I will get most of my exercise done before I leave. Usually I start to stress about time and leave out the floor work and weights in favour of getting my face on. I've prepared most of tonight's dinner, meatballs, so no stress when I get home. I only eat a very light seafood lunch,( two starters), and a glass of white wine. Espresso coffee. Hope to squeak in on calories, there is a bit of walking involved, but I won't have burnt as many as usual.
Lovely walk Barbara. Mindfulness in action. I love to notice things. The world is amazing!
Yes, my mother’s mother. Their garden adjoined ours. It's all in my next book.
