I had a great run this morning. There is a cold front blowing in and it should be really nice tomorrow and Thursday morning. I thought it might still be warm this morning and it kind of was. But it wasn't bad. It was 76°F when I started and 73°F when I got home according to my weather app, not Strava. It wasn't humid and the dew point was 55°-60° depending on the app. But it felt good. It was a little windy at around 13 mph, but it wasn't too difficult to run (wind is not my favorite running weather) and it helped it not feel too hot.
My plan was 4 miles in 40 minutes at an average pace of 10:06. I ended up with 5 miles in 54 minutes at a 10:44 pace. I was really just enjoying the run too much to stop.
@quilteryoyo Great job on finishing your first Half Marathon!
OMG @rheddmobile! I would be so scared to see a bobcat that close!

The summer weather is back. But allegedly there is a cold front blowing in overnight and we are forecasted to have highs in the 80’s and lows in the 50’s for the rest of the week! WOOOOO! I. Can. Not. Wait.
Today’s run was an easy 3 miles. I did my neighborhood trail and saw my friend and his trail dog. Strava told me this run was trending faster so I looked back and my overall for this run is definitely heading in the right direction since the beginning of real summer running with a similar degree of effort. But, i was overall faster this time last year, so I’m not sure what to think of my progress. I was not purposefully focusing on slowing down last summer so maybe that alone is the difference. I was hoping to get my HM time down a bit more this year so seeing the month to month comparison from last year and this year is shaking my confidence a bit. I know it is too early to tell and I need to let the cooler weather and my training work their magic. I think seeing some miles creep down into the 9 min range would make me feel better. Fingers crossed.7 -
Had a good run this morning, 7 miles, kept my heart rate down for the most part. Pleased with the speed I got at that effort level, though I fell short of clocking in at one hour by 22 seconds...

"Breezy, mid 60s F, with occasional drizzly rain to keep me company. Much better than running with spiders, snakes, bobcats, or coyotes." Hahaha @Tramboman
Thank you @kgirlhart. Nice running. I have had a few of those runs that felt so good you just didn't want to stop. It's great when you have those. Glad your weather is better. We're supposed to be in the 40's for lows this week. I'm not ready for that.
@martaindale Nice running. I hope you find that the cooler weather allows you to increase your pace to where you want it to be.
Nice @johnisrunning !2 -
I didn't work at the daycare today, so was able to get my run in this morning. It was raining, however, so ran on the treadmill. I'm calling it a Recovery Run. I did intervals of 4/1 minutes with the recovery minutes being walks at 3.8 mph. The running intervals were a ladder from 4.2 - 4.5 - 4.3 mph. The last running segment I did for 6:44 minutes in order to get to a good mileage stopping point - 2.25 miles.

First post on the monthly running forum since January 2020. I hope to be back for good. Have i missed anything?
My goal is to use these final 2 weeks to prep for a half marathon that i am not prepared for at all. 3 weeks ago i got covid and last week i started running continuously. By the way i forgot about how much the first mile sucked. My goal was 4 miles of continuous running without slowing to a walk. Yes. I accomplished my goal....by mile 3 i was coughing hard but still continued, At the end of my run, i was drenched but felt good. (The trick to getting over covid beside the obvious act of getting vaccinated is forcing air into the lungs.) Nothing beats old fashioned running. It feels so great to be able to take deep breaths without chest tightness or coughing.
In 2020, i reduced my hours at work to part-time. I still work as an RN on the night shift but feel so much better. Last year i purchased a tiny fraction of a racehorse, a beautiful bay mare, 4 years old. I couldn't afford more than a fraction of a share. Still fun to be an owner.
Will try to catch up with everyone. Have a great week!

@RunsOnEspresso those driveway people almost get me all the time, I’ve banged on more than one trunk in my time. Glad they missed you. @AlphaHowls you are 100% correct. My daughter’s car was hit in a parking lot at school, the girl got out of her car and said “I never saw you in my back up camera” well of course not stupid because let’s play SCIENCE I wasn’t in the camera view you need to LOOK!!!! Don’t even get me started on the cancel culture. There was a story on the news here, not sure where it happened I’ll have to look for it, the girl hit a guy running on purpose!!!
So who can tell me how I managed to have such an exciting user name or profile that all the almost undressed ladies of MFP want to send me friend requests. I got one yesterday and her profile pix was of her uncovered upper regions and her legs spread open. Did I not understand the F meant in MFP? Good night
So in my non boring life of a college aged kiddo. Skip runs off campus all the time, she loves this neighborhood because there’s lots of trees and the houses are pretty etc. So yesterday she sees quite a few police cars in the hood and doesn’t pay it much mind. A NBC news crew pulls up and the guy says I know you (not surprised LOL – she had actually done a quick photoshoot with him for the website of the local police) so he said you need to head back to campus, there was a shooting in this neighborhood. So she said she hightailed it out of there. Okay…. The shooting was 2 blocks over from where she was running and the HAD NOT CAUGHT THE SHOOTER. Turns out a homeowner caught a guy trying to break into his car and the homeowner was shot in the leg (he’s okay). I said I thought it was a nice neighborhood, her reply “go figure”. OMG
Wow @rheddmobile a bobcat, wow!! @WhatMeRunning we have lots of coyotes in our neighborhood, we just look at each other and keep moving.
@johnisrunning great picture, we went about 3 years ago and it was amazing. People said oh a couple days is enough, I could stay a month and just hike.
@kgirlhart yay for a good run and cooler weather. Supposed to drop to the 50s here over the weekend, what!? Awesome! Don’t you love when you are feeling so good you just keep on moving.
@ereck44 welcome back!

Just checking in. I'm not worrying about getting my 40k this week, as I have 6 weeks left in my challenge, and only need 2 more weeks of 40
So no run yesterday. I was exhausted, understandably after the weekend. It's looking doubtful I'll meet my goal for September, oh well.
Today I did some gardening, changing a flower bed up for Fall. It's still missing something, but I've got some ideas. My other flower bed has sidewalk blocks stacked in it, so I can't do that one yet
Then tonight was run club. I ran with one other girl in the city, then did a cool-down run with another (who I thought was walking, so I stopped my watch, and then she started running).
Welcome @ereck44 It seems like we've had quite a few members returning lately. It's great that all of you are back!
@skippygirlsmom I think I got that one too, and must've hit the accept button next to the X I was aiming for, and then spent the next few seconds panicking while trying to find the unfriend option and worried this would attract even more of the same accounts.
That's really scary about the neighborhood shooting - glad someone was looking out for Skip and told her to get out of there!5 -
@ereck44 welcome back! Great to see you again. I'm sure you can just read back on everything you missed
Lots going on this week with you all - coyotes and bobcats and shootings and almost getting run over. Stay safe out there everyone! Let's not try to top each other on scary encounters.

Yesterday was a short warm-up before strength training, I prioritized walking the dog and spent too much time on that. Today I met up with two friends after work. Well I left work early to do it, but it was a day that required escaping early. It's really hard to coordinate our schedules so I was glad to get this one in and catch up a little after a tough work day.
I'm contemplating signing up for an October or November half marathon race. I mean, I have to do one a month anyway for the challenge but I haven't signed up for an actual race since April. Fall is the best time here by far so even if I don't really race, it would be more motivating to run on race day. The problem is I still have two hikes left and I'm not sure when so I'm reluctant to commit. If I get one of the hikes done this weekend maybe I'll feel more settled about signing up. I am signed up for a 10 mile run at the end of October, which I had totally forgotten about with deferrals and rescheduling. They have training runs for it which run parts of the (very hilly) course and they are usually very fun to do. I need to pick up my training packet this week I think.7 -
@johnisrunning GC would be a great place to run (all but the altitude adjustment). Great pic.
@ereck44 welcome back! No, you haven't missed a thing
@katharmonic yes, do it! I know you have a lot on your plate, but you'll probably regret not signing up if you don't
@polskagirl01 @skippygirlsmom I want to be your friend
Was 100F here yesterday, and 90F today. Cold front was to come though today, but it is late. Don't want to miss the first day of Fall tomorrow (50's in the morning 😁), but didn't want to have 2 rest days in a row. So just punched out a couple miles on the treadmill tonight.

Welcome back @ereck44 . Glad you are recovering well from CoVID and good luck on your upcoming HM.
@skippygirlsmom Glad Skip is okay. Even the "safe" neighborhoods don't seem to be safe anymore. I get those friend requests too. Just SMH and hit "decline."
@katharmonic Glad you were able to get out of work early and meet up with your friends. I understand your commitment issues. Hopefully you can get a hike in this weekend and feel a little better about it.

Taking the day off today, I usually try to take Wednesdays because it’s garbage day and the cans at the curbs are stinky. A cold front came through last night so I almost got up to go, glad I didn’t it’s still raining..I just couldn’t do another day of running in the rain, especially the cold rain.
@polskagirl01 and @quilteryoyo sorry you are getting them too. That’s like when you like a picture of someone’s on social media by mistake when you’re stalking them LOL That girl of mine is always telling me things that make me wants to say “okay come home, leave that big bad city”. Last weekend a girl at the local campus crap hole was drugged and grabbed outside the bar, they found her under a car on campus. She is 18 years old! The local hangout is now no longer open to under 21. You used to have to be 21 to drink but 18 to enter.
Ha ha @Scott6255 I’ll give them your name next time LOL
@RunsOnEspresso hope the glute is feeling better soon.

Yikes @skippygirlsmom that's horrible what happened to that girl at Skip's college campus. That makes me sad (and angry)
7.2 miles this morning. Weather finally broke. It hasn't been this cool since early May (first time I have worn a shirt while running since early May too). I was so looking forward to this day, but it wasn't the ethereal run I expected. Don't get me wrong, it was very nice not to have to wipe the sweat from my eyes every 30 seconds, but I just felt kinda blah. Not sure why, probably work stress. But I'll get over it.
6 -
Had a big effort planned this morning. As my mileage had been slightly down lately due to vacation (and thus, theoretically, my legs should be fresher), I decided that I would try a time trial 5K this morning, to see what my current speed is like...
...only to then walk out into oppressive humidity (72 F, 93% relative humidity, 70 F dew point). That kind of moisture can take somewhere between 3-5% off your running time.
That said, I completed the 5K in 20:46.1, my second fastest time ever and only the second time I've beaten 21:00. In better weather, I feel like I likely would've beaten my PR of 20:24, though it still looks like I'll need to put in a little more work (and pick a cooler, crisper day!) to finally beat 20:00...

Today was probably the best run since I returned. I did a solid 55 minutes (4.6 miles) in the woods. Low 70s, but very overcast. About 2 miles in the skies opened up and the last half of the run was in the glorious rain. I had forgotten how much I love running in the rain. The cool moisture on my hot skin, the sound of the droplets hitting the tree leaves drowning out all the other ancillary noises. I was tempted to keep going a little longer, but after a 5 day family visit, I'm a little behind on work (so I'm posting here instead, lol) so I figured I should get home and get some stuff done.
74.9 out of 100 for the month
@johnisrunning I commend you for attempting a 5K time trial on your own! I think racing a 5K is probably my least favorite distance. First mile is okay, second mile sucks and the last 1.1 sucks even more! I think that in a race, on the right course, you would probably be really close to 20 minutes if you have run 20:24 solo. One thing that might help is a little more warm up. Back before a took my 4 year hiatus; for a 5K, I would run the entire course really easy, like 4+ minutes slower than race pace followed by 3 to 5 sets of strides to let the legs know that some serious ish was about to happen. Then, rest for about 10 to 15 minutes, hit a couple more sets of strides a couple minutes before the gun and then I was ready to go. On a normal run, it would take 2+ miles for my legs to loosen up, so it makes sense that an easy 5K would be helpful to run fast. YMMV8 -

I had low vitamin D levels in June. I am sure the pain, lethargy, depression and muscle jerks were related. I still have spine pain and weakness so I am seeing the PA Monday for insight, maybe check the D levels again and assure me the spine pain is ... normal? or least not a major concern. I feel like my spine is going to collapse. You know those bones you get in canned salmon? I feel like canned salmon. I've not been aggressive with the vit D so... I might regret that when I'm 80.
weight
freakin' horrible. ugh... 11 pounds over "do something!" weight. My 51 year old body thinks it's 21 and is having regular periods now... fine. but the weight up and not down is killing me.7 -
@Scott6255 I know it's awful. The school sorority was actually instrumental in the bar going to 21 and over only. I tell Skip all the time, no man left behind and ANY drunk girl is your friend watch out for her. One day at the pool, the school has an outdoor pool, a guy (about 30) sat down with some girls that looked young to Skip. The looks on the girl's faces made it obvious they didn't know him and were uncomfortable. She walked over with the guy she was with and said "do you know him?" "no" she told the guy to get lost before she called the police. He started giving her crap and her friend stepped in between them and he left. They still called campus police to give his description. Crazy people everywhere. She was actually followed while running and run up the driveway to a lady she didn't know and said hey mom how are you? the woman caught right on and gave Skip a hug and they stood there until the car left and the woman walked Skip back to her car after calling the police. I'm happy that I've taught her to be aware of her surroundings, to walk with purpose and confidence while scanning all the time, no headphones in so you can hear and don't hesitate to stand your ground if you can't run. Finally if they try to take you somewhere fight for your life, you will not come out alive if they take you.6

@skippygirlsmom That is scary about the girl at Skips school. It's so sad. Sounds like Skip has a good head on her shoulders and you have taught her well.
@Scott6255 Glad you have cooler weather. Sorry about the blahs though.
Great running @johnisrunning ! Congrats on such a great pace in those conditions.

It was mostly cloudy when I started my run this morning but the moon was so bright it shined through most of them. I felt a few sprinkles as I was heading out walking up my driveway but they never amounted to anything. Later this morning, said cold front and rain blew through.
@skippygirlsmom – Your recount of the guy following Skip gave me cold chills. Glad the lady was supportive and helped her out.
