Jaoquin and Miguel. And Uncle Colin.
Just finished our dinner. It's the smoked sausage, cabbage and sauerkraut dish. One of our favourites.
The tomato, pepper and lemon dish came out absolutely fabulous. It's from Claudia Roden's New book, MED. I got the recipe from the Guardian. She wrote a wonderful book about Jewish food which was one of the best history books I've ever read.
When I was first married, and living in London, one of our close friends was part of her circle, though I never met her. She is now in her eighties. One of the great influences on the development of British food, into the world-influenced glory it is today.

I cheated and used a jar of peppers.
It will be a bit of a rush to get ready tomorrow, but we have time to get our exercising done. I'm very much looking forward to sharing food with my friends after such a long time.

Rebecca ... Fermented cabbage is easier to digest than raw cabbage, and may reduce digestive symptoms like bloating and gas. Sauerkraut may even help with certain digestive disorders, like IBS. (According to a website I was recently on)
Kelly ... I love your photos! Those boys make me smile every time.
Another beautiful day in western New York. Low humidity, a breeze, sun is shining, leaves are starting to turn ... and I'm sitting inside with my leg on a chair! Bah! I can get myself outside, but our ramps were built for a motorized wheelchair so not quite ADA. I need help getting back up the ramp in this manual chair I'm borrowing.
Husband is dealing with arthritic gout and son's back is hurting, so I'll stay put.
Beth near Buffalo
Mine was steamed in broth. The sauerkraut that was on my Reuben sandwich was delightful. I love those at our Arbey's restaurant.

Last night was better, though I turned getting settled in bed and had a full swirl of vertigo. Dang it! So dealt with that off and on all night. Going to use the bathroom I felt like I was on a ship! Holding on to walls and such! This morning when Lee woke me up for the gym I said a resounding NO. Slept until he arrived back. My neck, eyeballs and head are achy. Swirls are no fun!
Just being good to myself, drinking lots of water. Will probably have another tomato sandwich.
Hugs to everyone that wishes one!

Tracey – You are an excellent grandmother! I hope to do as well as you as time goes along. My daughter has three and my son has one son, and one son to be born later this fall. We will be going there to help out.
Kylia – Your SIL seems to be the wicked witch of Ohio. :grumble: We had a raccoon problem for several years, caused by a neighbor who fed them from her deck and front window. She moved away and no one else feeds them so they have not been bothering us for several years. The new family who moved in to that home is wonderful. I’m sorry for the loss of your friend’s grandson.
Heather – Sorry your friend’s apartment sale didn’t go through. I hope she finds a new buyer soon.
KJ – Love the photos of Joaquin and Miguel. Uncle Colin is an excellent uncle. :flowerforyou:
Peach – I think you look great. My mom was a natural blonde, as was one of her sisters. Mom’s hair gradually mixed white into the blonde. Mine appears to be doing the same thing. My DH describes the color as platinum. I am flattered by his words.
Pip – Cannon Beach is a favorite destination of ours. Enjoy your stop there. We spent half a day there when our daughter visited this summer. The beach is wonderful. We have one favorite restaurant overlooking the ocean, and there are many little shops.
Allie – DH can also take Tylenol, but none of the other nsaides. It sounds like your doctor has told you what is safe for you. :flowerforyou:
Our brother in law passed away after a long and productive life. He was past 90 when he died. DH has been in touch with his sister and we know she is surrounded by family. We don’t know what plans are being made for burial.

Rebecca I have suffered from vertigo in the past. It is so much worse than it sounds isn't it. *hugs*2 -

Its not for the faint of heart! When I get it, I feel the swirls at night when I change positions. I told my doctor once that when I have it, turning, the swirls put me right back to sleep! He laughed and said I've never heard of people using vertigo as a sleep aid! I tend to move slowly, trying to not set the swirling off. Those take my breath away, and I tend to cry out! When I was at the doctors once he had me lie back, then I sat up and he was fascinated watching my eyes shuffle back and forth. Today I'm just sore from the 3 times of full on swirls last night. Knowing it goes away, keeps me hopeful!

Yes the vertigo is no fun ,when i get a good bout of it my stomach tells me to upchuck and sometimes at night when I roll over it feels like my eyes are rolling back and forth.. it gets infuriating.. but what can you do...
The weather has been fabulous this is my kind of weather.. Fall is my favorite time of year for sure.3 -

Rebecca - Have you done the Epley manoeuvre.? It works immediately on DH. Instant cure for horrible vertigo. I did it on him after watching YouTube videos by doctors. Your husband would have to do it to you. We bought a collar to keep his head up afterwards. It works like magic. Instant.
Epley maneuver-performed on a real patient suffering from vertigo. YouTube. Bob and Brad.

Kylia - how stressful to come back to. When is your son in laws last day?
Kelly - great pictures of the boys.
Katla - thank you. My Grandmother was my rock, my friend, my confidante. I aim to be that for my grandchildren. They bring me so much joy.
Sorry for your loss.
Carol - we have a lot of colouring of hair in our salon. My daughter tells me it’s only a decision I can make and I’m not even close to ready yet.
I think when I’m ready I’ll dye it all grey. I don’t like how mine grows in.
Heather - enjoy your lunch tomorrow, we are restricted here again. 😩 it was only a matter of time.
Rebecca - do you know what is causing the vertigo?
Pip - you and Yogi are being treated very well. Enjoy!
Today is Election Day in Canada. I wish we had candidates that were worth voting for. I believe Daffy, Goofy, Animal would be better.
It is what it is.

Did a body p[ump DVD then took my walk. I do notice that lately I’m walking a bit slower (not aerobically) just to make it easier on my hip. The plan for tomorrow is to do a step pump DVD, but depending on how my hip feels, I might change that.
Took my walk last night then played mahjongg on the porch. It gets dark too early now to play by the pool. Bowling this afternoon
Came home from bowling and took my evening walk since I can't do it after dinner
KJ – those boys are getting so big and more and more cute
Bangs: right now I just have my hair pulled back. I’m thinking that this winter I would like to change my hair and I might add in bangs. The thing is: whenever I’ve had bangs, eventually they grow out and I can’t seem to trim them straight. How does anyone else do it so that they aren’t crooked?
Beth and Rebecca – I just made some sauerkraut using just one tablespoon of salt. To be honest, I like it much better. The sauerkraut that you buy in the store, to me, is quite salty. Mine has “crunch” to it
Rebecca – dear, I hate when I get vertigo. Luckily, it happens very little. (((HUGS)))
pip – can Kirby get any more thoughtful?
For those of you who were wondering, here’s a picture of my mermaid in bisque. Now, remember, this is the Bible belt. So for here it’s VERY risque.

Michele- She is beautiful and adult. I was thinking along your Disney theme-🤪. Not so this time! She is wonderful.
Thank you ladies once again for your support. Tracey- my son in law's last day was last Friday(while we were on vacation). As for sister in law, I am trying to think of how I would describe her. I use to just think she was private, but as the years turn, I realize she is self centered, sneaky, lazy, and "victimized ". She is really smart, but doesn't use it. I dont know.....we get along okay, but I wouldn't chose her as a friend. Does that make sense?
Massage was good. Kiki says I am much too young to be this stressed and tight. Stretching and exercise. I know, just gotta figure out how to put me first.
My Shark robot vacuum died just before vacay. Less than 2 years old. DH insisted I get a new one, so we went with Robbie the I roomba 7+ He is fast and much louder than Sharkie. We will see if he cleans as well. Sharkie did clean up after two large dogs for a year. DH also got a new upright vacuum for the man cave. His $99 old unit was 15 y/o and not cleaning as well. Expensive night!
Love the pictures!
Hugs!
I can do this thing called LIFE as I have a wonderful group of ladies to help me through it!

Kylia in Ohio back to every day life3 -
Michele - I love the mermaid. Did I mention that I'm starting a ceramics class next Thursday evening.
I recently went to bangs. The Great Clips here charges 5.00 to cut them, but my daughter will too. I wouldn’t cut my own.
Kylia - I understand what you mean. My SIL is similar, although I used to really enjoy her.

Tracy - I am watching the Canadian election news. TV reports are liberals 144 v conservatives 118. I have visited Canada several times, always in British Columbia. I love BC.0
-
Katla - yes I believe have another minority government. It was just a lot of money wasted for the same result. I am not political and don’t get into it a lot, but truthfully I don’t think any of the leaders were fit to lead, so I guess it’s one of those “devil you know” moments for me.

Katlya all my condolences about your brother in law1 -
Ate way too much starch yesterday; the day was a total bust.
Friday was rather pleasant - met a friend for quite dinner pleasant. Sunday morning too. spoke at length with a friend.
Very long whinge about exchange with friend on Saturday.Saturday I met a friend S, to go to friend V's school's open house. Friend V sometimes asks me when she is looking for new teachers so I told S who really really needs work and is quite qualified but quite specialised, about a job and it worked out really well. What was to be 18 hours sounds like it will be 60 hours or so.
S and I were both invited to the open house (though V kept losing S's number and asked me to forward the invitation). S and I agreed we would go just for an hour max as it's not really our thing, and then grab a coffee for an hour. S. kept telling me at the event that looked so tired during the thing. (which didn't seem to be an issue for friends seen on Friday and Sunday). When we got to the café I said - I'm not tired anymore I was just bored. (at the open door thing I could feel right away it would be effortful and it was just "making conversation" with the students, and stayed for a respectable hour, as agreed). Though I said I wasn't tired any more she seemed to not believe me and said "you look tired" "your eyes look soooooo tired."
She can sometimes listen but she can also tend to talk a lot - like call and just go directly into a monologue for 15 or 30 minutes about some issues she's dealing with, without much reciprocity - it's not horrible but that is part of how It is, often enough.
The previous day she had told about how she was down about another job lead I had given her -job she'd applied for - as the needs the money - that she wasn't keen about - the job and the job offerer wasn't keen about her - she sounded as she was not at all enthusiastic in the interview.
Upon arriving at the open house she also talked about how she felt down for a while the moment we met.
Upon arriving at the café then moments after we were sitting, I started to speak of something of my own experience, and then as I was talking about something personal she interrupted right away to talk a bit about the coffee that was really bad, (okay, that can happen) so I stopped talking, and then she asked me to continue and interrupted me again a few sentences later to ask why I never wear make up. I was really annoyed.
She wears mascara and maybe eyeliner and lipstick, eyebrow pencil. I don't know. Definitely always something like that. I have no problem with people wearing makeup - some people wear it and some don't. I can wear light make up sometimes - when I feel like it. I am very often without. it is true I have been wearing less of the on and off occasional make up since lockdown. One day last winter I put on lipstick for a change but forgot we had mask mandate including outdoors. not really useful!
I expressed my annoyance and - to illustrate the awkwardness of her question - asked her, why she wears make up. I did say she had asked me a question and then interrupted me 2x in just like 2 or 3 minutes, to speak about totally different subjects.
She was very angry and suddenly got up and left. I stayed and finished my bubbly water, but I find that quite unpleasant.
This is compounded by her monologues which I don't want to tell her about - I have found people sometimes get deeply upset if you tell them have a habit of talking too long - if you don't do it with gentle tact finding the right moment. I know it can be done with diplomacy sometimes.
I do find it unacceptable when people speak day after day repeatedly and at length about themselves and then finally when they ask about me they interrupt me immediately and regularly.
I can accept listening at length - but not if there is almost no reciprocity.
I was surprised to hear her say a week or so ago that she is somewhat Aspergers.
I just googled Asperger's and did find this among the subjects.
"- Conversations that almost always revolve around themselves or a certain topic, rather than others" and possibly :
"Not understanding other peoples’ feelings or perspectives"
But she can sometimes be compassionate and most of the list doesn't seem to correspond to her.
There was an exchange of sms's - she was quite critical of my response, and defended at length her right to wear make up. I said I also wear make up or not as I feel like doing and that clearly my appearance was not acceptable to her - as seen by her many many comments on my fatigued appearance and lack of make up in one hour. (and now that I think of it no other interest in me other than to tell me that).
This reminds me of my younger sister. Not the appearance -focus but the self-focus.
I listen to people quite a bit and often at length and some reciprocity is welcome. My friends of Friday and Sunday were better listeners and the conversation was more back and forth I think.
With this same friend -very early in our friendship we similarly agreed to go together to a show given by a someone in a common circle of friends. Afterwards we got a coffee. She was very short on money so I offered to pay for her coffee. (she sometime offers me one too to reciprocate, that is not an issue.) Then she was looking for her 3 or 4 euros in her bag after having gone to the bathroom, and didn't find it. She suspected me of having stolen it. (Having gone into her bag while she was in the bathroom to steel 3 euros, after having invited her for a coffee for about 3 or 4 euros, after having gone to a show together and having many professional friends and work together for over a year!). I said maybe she had misplaced or misremembered, or that at the show someone had stolen it (which I doubt- going into her bag and wallet and taking 3 euros and leaving all credit cards, etc.). She said she never misplaces, or misremembers because money was so tight. She became very distant after that for quite some time. It was very freaky.
But that was a a few years ago and we have met and spoken many times since then and sometimes she is listening and caring - maybe 1/3 or 1/4 of the time which is not so bad.
So maybe that had an effect on my lost day yesterday.
I hope today is better.2 -

Morning all. It's bright and beautiful here. I hope your day goes well.
Michele: <> Your mermaid is very artistic, but I understand that she may scandalise the bible belters. 😂
Tracey: <> I called it the reward system not bribery. It worked a treat. Not announcing my boredom was something I learned when I was a child. You didn't ever say you were bored! You got far too many things to do.
Rebecca: <> 😍 The delicate green cups and their plates. (((Hugs))) on the problems of getting maintenance done on your lease property.
Machka: <> I'm loving all the little graphics that you're posting. They're very thought-provoking.
Carol: <> 😍 The new hair colour. It suits you. I have been thinking about doing a similar thing myself.
Heather: <> Sorry to hear about your DSiL's health problems at the moment. I hope she gets it sorted. I sympathise with you feeling that there's too much going on at the moment. I have gotten used to being able to do my own thing, and the rising expectations of others for the renewal of socialising is not altogether welcome. I am glad that I have stepped back from my obligations to organise/lead groups. It will be a joy to be able to pick and choose if and when I want to attend. It's good to see that your editing of your memoirs is moving along nicely.
I have had a productive morning so far and I'm planning to make it even more productive. I did an HIIT workout first thing, did some writing, stopped for half an hour to have breakfast with DH, then popped on here to catch up with you lovely ladies.
I'm spending the next couple of hours going through some more of my art/craft equipment/materials and deciding where I will store them in my new setup. I will have a coffee break in there somewhere. ☕️ 😂
The bedroom is mostly back to normal, and the mountain in my dining room is getting smaller by the day. ☘️ Terri

Tuesday --
Long day today and one of the more stressful ones because my husband had yet another specialist assessment in the afternoon. Those are always stressful for both of us although I am starting to get used to hearing, he will never improve, he will never return to work, he will never drive, etc.
However this morning was interesting. I was a model for a young lady in a hairdressing course! She needed to do a blunt straight cut on someone with long or longish hair for an assessment so ... I offered my hair!
I got a shampoo, trim and a little bit of a set and her instructor told her it was well done so I think she passed her assessment.

Kylia- sounds like my SIL, I guess every family has one ..
Slept pretty well and got up before 5 this morning and got dressed.. fed Alfie and got him outside. Going to pick Dan up in a few minutes to drop him off to work. Just 2 times this week, his other ride is on Vacation1 -

I'm sorry about your husband's assessment. Though you are used to it, it must not be uplifting to hear. Nice about the haircut!0
