I got a phone call yesterday from a woman in my line dance class who told me that someone was going to teach beginning line dance at the Senior Center starting in December. She wanted me to mail her a list of phone numbers of people in my class so she could call some of them and tell them about the class. I smiled (to make my voice sound pleasant), and said "no".
Lisa,

Heather, what a great place you live. It was worth all the time and hand-wringing it took to make the move.
Barbara, I admire the way you respond so well to everyone.
This morning I walk alone and listen to podcasts, then we drive to town to pick up groceries.
Barbie in NW WA
I wouldn’t have shared the list either Barbie. I find it incredibly rude for people to share phone numbers without first getting permission to do so.

Absolutely ... and possibly also against the law in some situations.

Monday
Back to work. 2 day weekends are definitely not long enough.
We had settled snow down to 200 metres here and flurries to sea level. I would have loved it if it were winter, but given that we're 15 days away from summer, I'm not that impressed. I'd like to see a bit of summer weather!!
That's probably part of the reason I and others around here are tired and possibly a bit down. We have had so much rain and miserable weather in the past 6 weeks ... well above average. The average rainfall in October is 60 mm and we had 160 mm. This past weekend, we shot over the average rainfall for November.
It's hard to get out and do stuff when there's so much rain and wind and cool/cold weather. We'd like to get out cycling and do have wet weather gear, but it is miserable to cycle in the rain and can be unsafe. Some of my work colleagues like hiking but they keep issuing bushwalker warnings because trails can become dangerous when wet plus it is colder and often snowing at higher elevations.
It has slowed down our gardening as well. We got the gravel for the footpath (in the rain) but now want to wait for a somewhat drier day to lay it. The weeds, however, are loving it and they're growing like, well, weeds! I pulled a whole bunch again yesterday between rain showers.

I just realized that going to the gym on the weekend really isn’t an option. I like to exercise early in the a.m., and they don’t open until 8 on Sat. and 1 on Sun. That wouldn’t work for me, so I guess I need to do something at home.
Pip – safe travels
Heather – I put that book on my wish list at amazon. I’m making up a list of things I would like for Christmas
Made chocolate bran muffins. I don’t know why, but I was so exhausted earlier that I laid down on the bed and watched the movie “Sister Act”. Now I feel sort-of refreshed.
When Steve was here last, he invited us to a get together at his house in PA on June 6 (or is it the 9th, the Saturday). I really think we should go since he comes here so much. But to convince Vince that we should drive that distance. I don’t know what the difference is between there and the condo. He drives the 10 hrs to the condo. The only thing I can think of is that it’s harder driving to PA, more traffic. Well, not going to worry about it just yet.
Allie – get better fast. Please don’t get yourself all worked up imaging the worse. I was convinced I needed hip replacement, a while ago my hip hurt so much. I didn’t even exercise (me!). As it turned out, it was sciatic nerve. The MD gave me prednisone and eventually it went away. So here I was, worrying for nothing. Don’t let this happen to you.
We’ll be going to Jess’ for Thanksgiving. Leaving that Tues, getting there Wed. Colby’s mother is flying in on Thurs. Jess is on call from 4 to something like 10, so we’ll have our Thanksgiving the next day. Then she takes her licensing exam that Monday. She’s asked us to stay an extra day, she wants to go out to a celebratory dinner on Monday. I guess we’ll just have to play it by ear. I don’t know what time the exam is over, so maybe it’ll be the next day.
Okie – instead of flat out refusing to give the person a list of attendees, I would have contacted each of them, explained the situation, asked for their permission to forward their name/phone number and then contacted the person who had asked. Perhaps you could be helping the attendee. Or else I would have asked her for her contact information, then called the attendees and say "xxx is having a line dancing class at xxx at xxx. You can get in touch with her at xxx if you are interested". You don't know, maybe someone was attending barbie's class for medical reasons which they didn't share for whatever reason, and this other class would have helped them.
M – I, too, can’t believe how fast the weekend goes. And I’m only working part-time!

Right click on your desktop and you'll get a menu that looks something like this:
Choose Display Settings. In the search bar type: Ease of Access and High Contrast.
There are other ways of getting to that point as well like the search under your start menu.
Or if you know where Settings is, find it and then choose Ease of Access.
Once you get to High Contrast, turn it on. Then you'll have some theme choices. Pick one you like and Apply it.
If you choose Colour Filters from the menu (right above High Contrast), you can choose Greyscale which greys everything. Or Inverted which makes the white backgrounds black.
There are things you can do with themes, brightness, etc. as well. You can find those under System and Display.
I've got mine set so that the night light comes on at midnight and turns everything sort of a pinkish colour. At work, it comes on at 4:30 pm.

I have a MacBook Air. I don't see anything like this. I already have my desktop in a charcoal color.
Karen
Ah ... I don't know anything about MacBook Air. But there should be a settings option somewhere. Maybe try Googling it.

Kelly - I’ve felt like you a few different times in my life and was diagnosed with depression each time. When I saw my doctor in Oct she told me half of her patients are struggling With it right now.
I hope you feel better soon.
Machka - I agree with you about retirement right now. I really feel like I need a long vacation.
Kim - Linda is fortunate to have you. I don’t do sales well at all. I need a product that sells itself.
Barbara - that was presumptuous to ask for numbers. If I was one of your students I would be thanking you for not giving my number out. It’s not good to release that information these days.
Machka - our previous two summers were wet with above normal rainfall. It seemed the whole area was down. This summer was much better.
We had our first snow of the season today, it was a pretty drive from my daughter’s.
When I arrived at my daughters yesterday she was in tears in the phone. When she hung up I asked her what was wrong and she said “my husband, I don’t know how you people stay married for 30+ years”. Her husband is working himself to hard and it is wearing on him. She wanted to schedule a time to talk to him and the subject matter was a delicate one. He had left and went for a drive rather than fighting which I thought was mature of him however this discussion needs to happen and I feel like my daughter has to always put her dreams and aspirations behind his. So I’m torn. I’m sure they will work it out and it will all be fine, but it’s hard seeing your child upset and not being able to help.
We decorated her house for Christmas, she did a beautiful job.
This tree display has been on her mind for a couple of Christmases. She really wanted the sign to go with it before doing it.
The prescription has slowed things down but not stopped it so I’m ready for a hot bath and bed. I’ll be taking the bath after Yellowstone.

There are more than 40 people who attended my class while I was teaching this summer. Almost half of them stopped coming as soon as the indoor mask mandate started. The mandate is still in place. The woman who started the class did not contact me. I got the info second hand from one person and third hand from another. I see no reason to share my contact list especially since I feel that it's still unsafe for us to dance.
Barbie in NW WA2 -
Allie - did you hear that the CW network is starting a new Walton’s series on November 28th. It is being narrated by Richard Thomas and from my understanding will be the original Walton’s kids children and grandchildren.
I may give it a shot at least.

Here in Tasmania, I would cite SCHEDULE 1 - Personal Information Protection Principles of the Personal Information Protection Act 2004
Under Section 1 (4), it says, " If it is reasonable and practicable to do so, a personal information custodian must collect personal information about an individual only from that individual."
Also Section 2 (1)(b), "A personal information custodian must not use or disclose personal information about an individual for a purpose other than the purpose for which it was collected unless ... the individual has consented to the use or disclosure"
and more.

Just got a text from my daughter. Her bosses gave her a baby shower at there home which i thought was very sweet.. she will send me pictures whwn she can..
Makes me feel grateful2 -
Machka, I have long believed that there were a lot of things wrong about sharing someone's contact info without their permission, thank you for sharing how it could also be against the law.1

Lisa, so sorry to hear of your daughter's troubles with her hubby. I too wonder if he's stepping outside the confines of marriage and maybe feeling guilty so lashing out at her to deflect. Not a nice thing for him to do from half a continent and an ocean away! Also sorry that she felt she had to leave earlier than expected, but so glad for her that she has you and Corey behind her. Sounds like her military "family" is also firmly behind her. Well, except for the neighbours..... My FIL was also in the military and MIL had similar comments to make about the nosiness of some of her neighbours in military housing also.
Pip, you two have such a cute setup for the trailer etc, all the comforts of home, by the looks of it. Can't remember if I commented on how nice your new patio looks!
Tracey, the Christmas tree farm is really cute! Sorry to hear about your DD having issues with her hubby. And why does he think there has to be a fight, can they not talk something over without fighting? Maybe they should think about having a couple of sessions with a counselor, the right person can be a very valuable asset.
Kim, how frightening that must have been for you and for Levi when he found the pot! So happy to hear that he recovered quickly! Very nice of you to help your neighbour, I can certainly understand it being exhausting tho.
Barbie, I wouldn't have shared my contact list with the person who asked either, and quite frankly, the privacy reason was way down on the list! The person who is starting up the class needs to do her own advertising and class building, it's not up to you to provide clients for her! And now hearing that it was a third person who asked, it sounds even more rude!
Flea, sending you healing thoughts, glad to hear that the surgery went well, even if a clip did go missing.... It probably did get sucked up unnoticed.
Rori, you've been through so much, I hope this weekend brings you some peace.
The weather has just been nuts the past few days, and is supposed to be that way for a few more. Driving home from work in the rain last night was not fun. We are experiencing another atmospheric river so lots of rain, although, my friend and I went for a walk this morning and it was quite lovely! Very mild and we were both overdressed! But it was really nice to get out with her. But it's raining again, it was really windy last night too, our power blipped out at some point, best calculation I can come up with is that it went out around 5:30 am, but it was back on when I got up at 8, the only indication I had was that the kitchen appliances were winking at me. When I got home from my walk I started to clean house, did not bad, got the bedding changed, the bathrooms done and half of upstairs vacuumed before I decided to quit. I was actually getting quite hungry so decided to stop for lunch and just couldn't quite get my ambition back to finish the vacuuming. I did some bead crafting instead. I ordered a few kits from Mary Maxim (the Canadian version of Herschners), some were really quick to do, but I'm doing some Christmas trees, they are a bit more complicated and have more seed beads so it takes longer just to get the beads on. Never mind trying to make a tree shape with wire..... But that was how I spend my afternoon and I enjoyed it. The vacuuming will still be there, and I can finish it tomorrow.
Well, I think this post is long enough now! Hugs for those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

ps, not sure how I feel about the new format for the community, I miss the star that I could just click on and not have to scroll all the way to almost the bottom of the page to find my bookmarks. Oh well, I will adjust eventually.... but I don't have to like! lol6 -
Does any one else find sleeping extremely tiring? My dreams are so complicated.
One publicity letter to write today. Plus investigate another outlet.
I'm expecting the silk tie I bought for DH for our anniversary. The cleaner will be here if I have to pop out during the 4 hour delivery window.
Much love to all those with troubles.

November: leaner/stronger/kinder than October.
Accountability:Chose well: BP, made up Thursday’s BB&B, livestream church, emailed fire district safety and security draft.
Bonus: freezer and pantry inventory, wrote Advent devotional.
Just one thing:
14: Find a new way to help or support a cause you care about. Nope. Lacking energy and passion to do any more than already doing.
15: Build on new ideas by thinking “Yes, and what if…” ok, so what if instead of doing more to help or support a cause I care about, I find a new way, dropping some old ways? hmm
Bookmark brought me back to the last page I’d seen, hooray!
Heather the pics, especially the splendid ladies’ smiles. Does the cake soak in spirits while in tin? Wow, those dry robes ARE spendy. As for exhausting dreams, I used to be so happy to wake up and have to go to work, that whatever it was, was just a dream…
Karen thanks for the Dan Rather article.
Rebecca safe travels!
Barbie what Okie, Machka, Tracey, Allie and others said. I especially liked your smiling while you said No.
Evelyn would you share pics of your beading projects? Sounds like a lovely way to round out your day.
Lighter, lovelies!

November Plans
- Cycling - including at least one 50 km ride.
- Walking regularly.
- Pilates and strength training at home.
- Running - easing into it.
- Climb Mt Wellington - Hobart's Mountain - virtually as part of a stair climbing challenge at work. It's a smaller mountain but I want to focus on other exercise.
- Audax - communications work. We don't have any events to run till December
- Events - maybe a little travel around Tassie.
- Medical - I had an appointment today, my husband has one tomorrow and one the day after. If all goes well, that might be it for the month! That would be nice!!
- Plus, of course, my 2021 To Do List - getting organised, simplifying, etc. ... only that list seemed to get longer throughout October.
Or maybe I didn't have the time and energy.
Hopefully I've got more energy this month! But so far, it's not looking good. I didn't sleep well last night, dragged through the day, and fell asleep on the bus before we left the city ... and struggled to wake up for my stop.
However, I did perk up enough to plant my flower seeds with my husband this evening and practice a little piano before dinner.

Halfway through the month!
Cycling - yes, we've done at least one 50 km ride. But not much more. The weather.
Walking - somewhat regularly. Not as much as I would like. It's been a weird month. Weather and being very busy at lunch.
Pilates and strength training - does shovelling gravel and weeding count? The weeding is really stretching out my glutes!
Running - I keep meaning to do it, but I've been tired.
Climb Mt Wellington virtually - I'm getting there but not very quickly. I need to step up my game!
Audax - I've done some of the communication work.
Events - we'll see.
Medical - at the moment, I don't think we have anything pressing.
And that To-Do list. Still not getting on top of things.

Action for Happiness Calendar for November ...
https://www.actionforhappiness.org/november
This month's theme: New Ways November
This month, we're encouraging you to try something new! Learning something new or getting involved in an activity that really absorbs and interests us is great for our wellbeing. Keeping our brains active is not only good for us physically but it can help you feel you are flourishing as you see yourself make progress with a new skill, or just make you smile as you make a mess and decide to start again. Being playful and trying new things is important, as is remembering that it's OK not to get it right first time - change "I can't do it", into "I can't do it...yet!" This month's calendar is full of ideas to help you decide what to try next.
1) New Things I Want To Do This Month
- actually make progress on my To Do list!! Last month I added things to the list. This month I'd like to cross things off as done!
- playing piano is still pretty new for me
- making Christmas ornaments with nail polish
- having son and daughter-in-law for dinner
- going camping with husband for first time since accident ... maybe
- planting flowers
2) Respond To Difficult Situation In New Way
I'm kind of running out of new ways to respond to my difficult situation. However, one thing I try to do when things are getting difficult is to smile. Evidently I have a resting grouchy face which may make people respond defensively to me ... so I have consciously tried to produce a beaming smile at times. I probably look like Sheldon Cooper when he tries to do that, but that's OK. It's a start.
M in Oz
15. Build on new ideas by thinking Yes and What If
Artistically, I've collected some art supplies from a place selling off their stock for 40% off. I have an experiment in mind.

On a downer at the moment, miserable weather, lack of holidays etc etc. Comfort eating, scale going in the wrong direction. Monday morning, have given myself a good talking to and will exercise and try to control food intake.

Hi Kate, kind of similar, more or less... with variants....hopefully we'll be on the upswing.1 -
Barbara - we have given it a good dose of brandy!
I'm ashamed to say I spent all morning working out how to make the seagull art pic into a card for my son. I did succeed. Just got to print it when the paper arrives.
Have not done the publicity email.

Morning ladies
Slept pretty well ,got Alfie out and am just catching up with you all.. stomach is much better. So will hop in the shower and do laundry and feed Alfie, not all in that order though.. have to find out if my son can get his booster yet.. i think he can just go down to the local pharmacy.0 -
I can't remember if I commented on here at all this past weekend. I got my second jab on Friday evening. I got my shopping done while I was out. I stayed up late that night and was up by 8am. I felt okay and very lucky I wasn't really having a reaction. lol Then by about noon, I felt very tired and achy. It was a very flu-like feeling for sure. I just kept throwing theraflu at it and drank tea and ate bread and crackers. I was a slug in the recliner for the day. Well, it must have worked because I felt better yesterday and was able to get things done that needed doing. SO...I am vaccinated and ready for my visit with the grandsons at the end of December. DD has only three weeks left until baby's due date. She finished all of her "nesting" prep this past weekend, has her hospital bag packed and she is ready whenever baby decides it is time. So exciting!
Barbie- I had that happen to me one year, as I was stepping down as the secretary of the choir/drama boosters; the new secretary asked for all of the parent contacts (over 200 of them). I told her that I would send a "good-bye" email to everyone and advise them to contact her (the new secretary) if they were still planning to stay involved. I don't like giving my personal info out (especially to people/stores I don't know). I think most people are that way. Good on you, for sticking to your guns!
Kids arriving! This week is Homemade Bread week and also Stone Soup week! Yummm! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)6 -

Flea--Great news about the surgery, pray the rest of the results are positive also.
Well it has been a very stressful week. With son-in-law passing and then Saturday morning early get notafied that dear lady friend from church passed away suddenly. We did all the directory updates and cards for the church. Was hard going to church yesterday and she was not there to meet me at the door.
We are leaving tomorrow to go to Iowa for son-in-law's service. Going to be there a couple days. So far DD and kids are holding it together as I just think they are in shock. Hard part will be after the service.
I am off after today until Friday. So will more then likely not be back until then.
