    :) It is very gray and dark and rainy here. Fortunately the rain didn't start until after the dogs and I came home from our extra long walk. Jake and his friend were able to get enough firewood to fill the outdoor rack so we'll have enough for the winter. I have lots of indoor stuff to do that's fun so the rain won't affect me except for a short walk with the dogs mid afternoon.

    Stiffed the puppies today on play training and powerline, time crunch to nail trim appointment.

    Probe failed on thermometer while making English toffee, but can’t blame candy failure on it, left the water out OOPS so the butter and sugar never completely cohered. Any suggestions, Debbie, KJ or others who make candy?

    New thermometer ordered with two professional replacement probes and this is the 2nd time cheapo probes have failed. Kinda hope the replacement probes fit the other to thermometers as I like their design better for setting temp alarms.

    Heather :love: your Buddha vision, and the Christmas Bingo card. This would have been fun to play at last week’s girls’ movie night, with some Americanization adjustments. Maybe next year ;) Truth in that poem. Thank you.

    Allie it always amazes me how the sound of a dog getting ready to puke can rouse me from a deep sleep to standing, picking up dog, carrying to bathroom floor before eyes focused and without glasses.

    Tracey so relieved to see your smiling face! Fingers X’d for the ultrasound. Can you set a time limit for listening to the needy friend? Like when she calls, say something like “I want to hear you but I have to leave the house at 3pm, Will that be enough time?” Really listening can be an exhausting gift to give, especially when the caller won’t take steps to help themselves. Boundaries are necessary for self-care. Read a book about effective listening, can’t remember the title or author, who recommended rephrasing what we hear in terms of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. It was really hard to do but could be effective if I could detach enough to keep my ego and emotional reactions out of the conversation.

    Christmas cookie memories: making almond crescents and holiday nut balls with Mama. If I do nothing at Christmas I make a batch of each. It is important to me.

    The recipes I use are just simple ones-no temp checks-
    The cracker toffee is just butter and brown sugar, bring to a boil for 3 min, pour over the laid out crackers , bake five minutes, sprinkle with choc. chips, spread while hot then sprinkle with chopped nuts- that is it.
    It is called Cracker Crack- so simple but so good.
    The caramel corn is basically the same start but it does have corn syrup and baking soda added after you take it off the heat(and before you pour over the popcorn- that one takes an hour to bake on low.

    I made cracker toffee with a bag of cheap animal crackers my husband bought. He thought he was being thrifty, but he learned the official animal crackers in the small boxes taste way better. But they were a nice crunch in the toffee.💖👍

    What a lovely afternoon i had with my friends.. young lady singing Carpenters songs in a small theater.. we all had masks and had to be vaccinated.. and a lovely dinner afterwards.. they treated me to the show which was lovely, and our friend Mary got us sister bracelets..
    On the way home we drove home and looked at some of the Christmas lights..
    Here is hoping i get a half way decent nights sleep tonight.

    KJ – I have to tell you, Denise just called to say that she was just about to get the Magnablocks for PJ, she couldn’t believe we got them. She kept saying how the kids at her daycare love them. Thanks so much. I also got him a rug that you use cars on, it’s a town. Anyway, Pete was saying how he wanted to get PJ one, so I told him not to get it. Any other great suggestions?

    Tracey – these are acrylics, right? How did you get the cheek color for Mrs. Clause?

    We got this tin and I’m going to give it to the gal who runs the bowling. The idea is that you fill it with some goodie and pass it on to someone else. I made a feta cheese. I don’t know about anyone else, but after a while you get cookied-out. I realized that I haven’t had feta cheese in quite a while so maybe after the holidays I’ll make one for myself. Then I made the filling for these shrimp bites that I’ll take to the bowling party this Monday. It needs time to set and let the flavors meld. Then I started to make the chocolate dream dessert. I can freeze it and then finish it right before we serve it (or a few hours beforehand). I may finish making it tomorrow.

    Went to church, had dinner, realized that I haven’t played mahjongg in a while so I think I’ll play some while the yogurt is making in the IP.

    So glad to see some pals I haven’t seen in awhile.
    Meg- your trip sounds wonderful. We have a Shih Tzu pups who keeps us jumping. We love him dearly and believe he helped us during our COVID bout.
    M in Oz. Talk about best laid plans. Last week I was taking two friends to lunch. Both recently lost loved ones. Then I realized that another friend was turning 90. So I invited her. It grew from there to eight. I made reservations, bought a cake, candles, Birthday plates and napkins. All was great but unfortunately the birthday girl didn’t show up! We decided to eat the cake and take her the cards and part of the cake. Haven’t heard a word from her.
    Rori- You are in my thoughts. Both of my daughters moved from CO. One is in NH and the one you met is in AL.
    Michele-sorry you won’t see PJ for Christmas. We heard tonight that our DGD who goes to school in NY had two of her roommates test positive. She has already had the virus and vaccinated so hope she is ok. We aren’t sure we should go to their house for Christmas.
    Terri- I am so impressed with your weight loss. I am stuck.

    Thank you all for the words of wisdom on my friends. We chat via text or FB messenger. I couldn’t be on a phone and do everything I need to for all the hours we have chatted. I find it a little emotionally draining. Things seemed to go well with them today.

    Michele - I’m happy that Denise is pleased with your purchases. It must make you feel good.
    Yes these are acrylics. I can’t remember the colour of pink I used for the cheeks. I dry brushed it on. I’m so excited for my daughter to open it tomorrow.

    I have a story to tell. My Grandson that turned 10 in Sept has been doubting there is a Santa Claus. Earlier this week he asked for handwriting samples from his parents as he was sure this would be the way to prove it was them.
    I told a coworker about it, she has three girls aged 10-7-4, she said her middle one is doubting.

    She texted me Thursday evening to tell me about a website where you can book a video chat with Santa. She did hers last evening and she sent me a picture of her enthralled girls and told me it was wonderful!

    I advised my daughter, and she booked a chat for tonight with my Grands. The questionnaire the parents have to fill out are quite extensive including what they got from Santa last year, their middle names, friends, etc.

    My Grandson has refused to say what he wanted from Santa, it was another test, he figured if there is a Santa he would know his secret wishes. Anyhow, they had their chat tonight. When I asked my daughter how the chat went this is the response I received.
    “Good! Jonah fully believes in Santa again. He threw out our handwriting samples. Or so he says. I'm still going to get someone else to sign the tags lol”

    We are picking them up tomorrow to take them to our youngest daughter’s with us and I can’t wait to ask them about it!

    Tracey - I was so happy when my best (older) friend told me that there was no Father Christmas when I was 4 years old. It was as if a weight had lifted off my shoulders. I was also grateful and relieved that my parents did not try to argue me out of it. I kept the pretence going for my little brother. I won't be saying anything to my grandchildren this Christmas Eve, but will take the cues from them. I expect Max will know, and probably Edie, but they might be sworn to keep the secret for Bea. If asked, I will say it's none of my business! Don't want to upset DDIL. :o:p:p

    “I don't want to be smart, I want to be emotional! But I love you and don't want you to die in a house fire.” So agreed to let Joe throw away all the vintage, incandescent, twinkle bright lights. He could tell that decision hurt my heart, so is putting them up in the garage which has a reliable circuit breaker, to see how they do. Gotta love that man!

    Dragged my unwilling butt to dog group. Despite a few sprinkles was glad I did. Then stopped and Grocery Outlet “for just one more bag of chocolate chips” and found all the produce needed for the week. Other than an early morning trip to the post office Monday or Tuesday, and dog group, I can hunker down and not leave the house ‘til after the holiday.

    Machka the “sat quietly in the glow of holiday lights” square reminded me of my BFF. She used to overnight on my couch and loved to watch the Christmas tree lights randomly blink off and on. She told a story about her and her sister as little girls “kissing” each Christmas light goodbye when their mom took the tree down. Like Barbie and Katla, the lights give me great joy.

    Oooh, twinkly lights strung above the garage windows and around the rafters! Coming home from dog group, driving into the garage, was like driving into a magical Christmasland. Thank you Joe!

    Pouring down rain now, all the more cozy reason to stay in.
