We are planning to meet the Poodle breeder on Sunday. We expect to meet Mama Poodle, but the puppies are not born yet. I’m looking forward to the meeting.
Lisa - The view from your snowy porch is lovely! Our view this morning is light fog. Our resident heron is wading at the edge between marshy grassland and shallow water.
I also saw a raccoon. Not happy to see it. A couple of years ago a rabid raccoon came up the ramp from the marina. The sheriff sent a deputy to capture it and dispose of it. It was a hazard to everyone in our community.

Yeah! Seeing different soups make me happy! Its the lobster bisque soups that do me in though!!!

Did six minutes on my elliptical again! Yay! And did my marching and my yoga for my 250 calories. Yay!

Yoga today! Yay! Most of the yoga class are 50+ or more. There is a mix of men & women. I enjoy this group very much, and the exercise from yoga is a blessing.

Visit to the vet yesterday with Jake was interesting. He was full of engery and acted great. Doctor did say he could see some of the problems and gave us some meds and said take him home and love him and bring him back when ready. Must admit last evening he was his old self. Going to enjoy the time we have.
Then God protected us, as yesterday a fuse blew and the lady living with us could smell smoke. She called DH and he checked things out but couldn't find anything. Then last evening he went to replace the fuse and it blew again, so he looked more and found a cord that had burnt about 3 inches clear through. So replaced that. Thank God we did not have a fire. I have always said this house was a gift from God and he takes care of us here.
Lisa--Love the view of the snow from your home.
Rebecca--I am a lover of soup and the chicken and dumplings look so good.
Katla--Pray all goes well meeting the mama this weekend and leads you to a new fur baby.
Well have a great weekend ladies. Not sure what are plans are beside church and a visitation on Sunday. Have to figure out my eating as yesterday I ate several days worth. Totally out of control. Not giving up and going to the gym on the way out from work.

Hi Gals,
I’ve had an adventure this morning and hope one of you with more medical knowledge can help me… I can google it but I know there is a lot of bizarre stuff on the internet…
I am basically healthy, and rarely go to the doctor, but I do go in for a mammogram and a pap smear at the recommended times. Today I went in for a pap and had some questions for my OBGYN who I had not seen for 3 years. (any only one time before that – so not really a relationship) The nurse sat me down and took my blood pressure, I am short but the “bed” was high so I jumped up and sat there – feet not touching the floor, and took the blood pressure on an arm that she set up on a bar so my hand was above my head and stretch back, super uncomfortable – I mentioned both of these to her and she said it wasn’t a problem (with my mom her health providers are super careful her feet are flat on the floor and her arm is in a comfortable position) it came back “high” 155 over 79 so she decided I should have it taken again at the end of the appointment. Ok? After a pap in a room that was cold, still in a ½ gown (just a paper thing over the front top of me) and I am uncomfortably cold and a bit uncomfortable from the pap itself. The nurse takes my blood pressure again, this time standing but same arm configuration. 177 over 79. Time for freak out. Makes me an appointment to have it taken in a different department in 2 minutes – I need to get dressed quickly and run down the back 3 flights of stairs in the door and to the first door on the right. Ok, do that – sit waiting for 5 minutes, while I deep breath and try to relax. This nice male nurse? LVN? takes it again standing this time with my arm on a table at a very comfortable angle 144/79 he tells me it is considered elevated, not high and I need to have an appointment with my regular doc, which is scheduled for 2 weeks from now.
So my question is what types of things make blood pressure high, and is this potentially a ridiculous run around?
Thinking of you all, and hoping for a happy healthy day

@MelleeLag If I had to comment in this group, I would have typed exactly what you did. Same age, new, lbs to loose and hoping to hear some good tips to continue on a healthy journey2

KIM ~ I'm no expert, but, the way that nurse took your blood pressure sounds ridiculous. They always take mine with me sitting on a small sofa and with my arm down. When the male nurse took it, it may have been high because you were nervous after the first two experiences.

If your blood pressure is typically and historically normal, I would not worry too much about it. We have at home BP cuffs and monitor our own, but so many things can make it rise. There's the "white coat" effect, for one. There is stress, heat, salt/diet, overall health...I'd self-monitor. If it stays high, go back to the doctor. Just my opinion. I am not a doctor.

Carol - thanks for the support!!!
On my blood pressure, I have not had it taken since 2018 the last time I had a pap - and honestly I have no idea what the numbers were. I have no way to take it at home. Until the male nurse mentioned it I did not know you could do it at home. I am a complete novice at this whole thing.... watching at my mom's appointments is my only knowledge.

Kim - I'd say that was no way to take an accurate blood pressure reading. You should be rested, calm, seated comfortably, arm relaxed and comfortable.
Your BP varies all the time. It will usually be lower in the morning and higher in the afternoon. Higher after exercise. Lower if you've just peed. Higher after a cup of coffee. Higher in a cold environment! Definitely higher when you're under stress because a nurse has just freaked out and chased you down three flights of stairs! Sheesh!
If you can get hold of a reasonably priced but reliable monitor, it might be worthwhile to buy it and keep tabs on your BP. Or ask around. Maybe someone has one you could borrow for a while. Then you could self-monitor as Tina suggests. Otherwise, talk (calmly!) to your regular doctor.

Kim-There are reasonably priced self-monitors on Amazon. Just do a quick search and you'll find all kinds of options. We have the wrist cuffs, but I just saw new, small upper arm cuff model the other day that was in the $30 range. I suspect your local CVS/Walgreens also has something.

Well we had the cardiologist appointment for my mom. Nice young man. Her blood pressure was 220 over 90. I need to get her to take it at home because she is living in denial. I hate to be the agent of reality but I guess that's my caretaker role this week.

Kim, my local pharmacy will take my blood pressure for me if I ask. Maybe try that on a day when you are calm and rested.1

Ladies - thanks one and all for guideness and suggestions... I knew this group would be able to help... I think I will check around for a blood pressure machine to borrow, if I can take it a few times prior to my primary doc's telemedicine appointment that would be good. (or Katiebug I can check with my pharmacy)3

(((Kim))) - Penny & Tina have good advice. In your situation I would talk to a pharmacist first. If they check your BP and have no worries, you may be okay. If they are worried, an appointment with a professional nurse practitioner or doctor would be important. ❤️0

Kim, a lot of pharmacies here have a BP machine where you sit down, comfortably with feet on the floor, slide your arm into a sleeve and hit the start button. It is of course, a bit uncomfortable when the sleeve inflates but pretty easy and reasonably accurate. Would there be a pharmacy near you that would have one of those? We have one at home too, it was reasonably priced and is pretty easy to use.
