WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR FEBRUARY 2022
Replies

I lost steam partways through January, so my smashing start sort of fizzled a bit, but I recovered a bit at the end of January and into these first two days of February.
In March I have a vacation planned to Puerto Rico. I have never been. I'm really looking forward to it because it is a new place, but also warm, also not here.
Trying to remind myself that the effort with the and other activity is so that I can better enjoy my holiday. I'm not trying for a beach bod, but I do want to kayak in the bay one night to see the bioluminescence. That is the near future thing that I'm using to help me stay on task.
The workouts do help with shaking off some of the work stress. I knew this before, and I'm not sure why I didn't use that knowledge before now.
Thanks for offering this channel for support. The chance to read and hear others striving is helpful for not losing interest in this goal.
Stay strong all,
-Anna from snowy Ann Arbor.5 -
Pip - Our son has also been a fan of monkey feet- they do a great job. ⭐️⭐️1

Melissa - Welcome! I grew up in East Texas and spent five years in Colorado all told. Did covid put a crimp in your travels back and forth?
Beth - Congrats on the lost pounds! You've made it through some rough times, my dear. I talked to my sis about her experience with it and will be happy to DM you if you're interested.
Rebecca - You're in my heart--I've been in that place where you're waiting on an order that you don't really want to see arrive, but you know it's inevitable. You are such a strong mama, and I've watched your journey from strength to strength with intermittent fasting with much respect.
Katla - I hope you find the companion you're looking for, dear heart. I know it's been a long time since you lost your four-legged friend and that you've dearly missed him.
Annie - I've been watching your exercise time progression, and I'm so pleased to see your upbeat posts each day.
Allie - I'm glad they're taking it seriously. Hope it all goes well.
Margaret - Your comment on how doctors are focusing on the gut now is right on. Unfortunately, I have paradoxical reactions to almost every over-the-counter thing that's supposed to help.
Anna from Ann Arbor - Glad to have you here, and hope you find the support you need with us...
Quiet day today, filled with the chores I've actually missed doing. Energy levels stayed up for a few hours instead of just a few minutes. Progress has been slow, but it does continue...
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa

Newcomer to this thread as the headline caught my eye! Just looking to connect with other folks in my age range, lol. I lurk and tend to skim, but will always chime in when something resonates or there is something fun to share.
Wishing everyone a fantastic February!

Hi. I'm Ilana from KS. I was 20 lbs overweight for the last 3 years. That's a lot for a 5'0" woman! Finally got it off. It Just crept up 3 winters ago. Now that I'm over 50, (I'll be 60 in July), it takes much more effort and consistency to get weight off. My goal is to keep it off forever. It's just so hard to lose again after gaining. I'd love to hear your stories. I know I'm not alone!6

Katla – so sorry about your friend
Anna – I know you’ll enjoy PR. When are you going?
Kae and Ilama – welcome! You’ll find this a great thread with lots of support and great people.

I plan to do more after work.

I am right there with you- would like to loose 20-25 lbs, am 5' and will be 60 next month!
Take Zumba classes two nights a week. Used to walk with my daycare kids then with a friend- don't do either much anymore.
I track all my food but can't seem to get the scale to move.
GOOD LUCK

My best tip is to never give up. Continue to use this app and count your calories and figure out what works best for you! A lot of us have been on here for 8 years or longer!

I've given several tips in two other posts in this thread on p. 3.
But one tip I adhere to most of the time is: don't drink your calories.
For those of us who need to be on a 1200 calorie limit or similar, a glass of fruit juice, cola, etc. can have 100+ calories and that's a significant chunk of the 1200. I don't find beverages to be filling at all, whereas eating a couple whole grain crackers or a bowl of veggies or whatever to get those 100 calories is more filling.
The only time I'll drink calories is if I've done a long bicycle ride (50+ km) or if I've had dental work and can only have liquid "food" or if I'm really sick. And sometimes not even in those cases.

It's 2 a.m. here, and the ice storm is now changed to snow and will hopefully stay that way. We're right on the leading edge of the snow/ice boundary according to the radar. It's the ice that does the most damage - tree limbs come down easily when they're covered with a coating of ice, and few if any power lines are buried here, so outages are probably in our future.
Ice and snow preparations in the spoiler:For now, the electricity is still on, thank goodness. Hard to tell how thickly coated things are, but the only line I can see in the back porch light has tiny icicles hanging from it. Not actually going out there to touch it or anything, I'm not quite that hardy a soul.
What woke me was the usual bathroom trip, and as soon as I got back in bed and got warm afterward, my eyes popped open because I realized I didn't plug any of my electronics into chargers before I went to bed. And, with the fair chance of no electricity in my future, that suddenly became more important. So, I got back up again, trudged out into the living room and office and got my Kindle, my phone, my laptop and my earpiece safely plugged in (the necessities, you know ), and then tried again to go back to sleep. No joy. Got up once more and fished the stovetop coffee maker out of the back room and put it by the stove. Our hot water heater and stove are gas, so don't need electric to work. The heat is too, but unfortunately, the blower is electric, so no heat when the power is out. We do have a generator to plug in the vital things like the fridge and freezer, and a fireplace to keep part of the house warm.
They're pulling the crews in early at Corey's work, as they are contracted to clear sidewalks and parking lots at one of the major hospitals in town. Corey set his alarm to get up at 3:45 a.m. and get there by 5 a.m. He said the state highway crews were out treating the bridges when he was on his way home last night. We live on the other side of the Arkansas River from where he works, and in the foothills of the Boston Mountains, so between the steep grades and the long bridges things can get kinda sketchy in this weather.
Made a decaf cup of tea to soothe my slightly frayed nerves. Just trying to make sure everything is in place. One of Murphy's laws is that if you don't prepare, things will happen, and if you do go to all the effort to prepare, they often don't happen at all, so we prepare and hope for the best. It's 2:45 now, and my eyelids are starting to droop... off to try to go back to sleep.
Later, y'all,
Love,

2: Ask a friend how they’ve been feeling lately. C? D&R?
Watched an episode of Girls’ last tour (?) with Joe. He likes anime and this series at least is less violent and suggestive than some of the others. Yet, plotless, dystopian “stories” leave me disquieted and sad.
Annie up to 6 mins on your elliptical, now that’s progress! Well done!
Pip, that’s an impressive “sole” collection!
Michele sending good thoughts for Friday’s titration test.
Anna from Ann Arbor kayaking to see the bioluminescence sounds like a great motivator. Safe travels.
Mary  ((hugs))
Lisa “chores I’ve actually missed doing” made me smile. Not something I’ve experienced Hope Corey’s workday is a safe one, ice is a big reason why we no longer live in Idaho.
Welcome @MizzDoc Kae in NYC! Skim and chime away!
Welcome @Carni8991 Ilana from KS. Lots of 5’ and under gals here.
Whoops, 2 am and Joe is up. Time for the shift change.

Loving working from home!! Sadly tomorrow might be the last day for a while. I'm supposed to work in the office for 2 weeks, and then I should work from home the 3rd week, but we'll see. I hope.
When I finished work, I changed and went downstairs to get back on the treadmill for another 36 minutes - slightly faster than my first 36 min.
Plus some weights.
It's been a cool, rainy, windy day.

Gave myself the morning off my writing today, for no reason other than I really needed the break, and decided to write an email to one of my favourite writers, who has just published a new book. I hope it gets to him through the publisher. I have asked them to forward it. He has inspired me through the years and I think all writers like to hear that!
Hugs to all those, like Lisa, who are going through worrying weather conditions. I well remember the film, THE ICE STORM. Today we had a bit of drizzle for the first time in ages. It's cheered up again now.

KYLIA ~ Happiest of Birthdays to You!

Lisa- Hello! I drive through Arkansas occasionally on the way to Bloomington, Indiana where my son is at school. It’s a beautiful state!
And yes- Covid sucked for traveling back and forth. At the beginning, we stayed in our home in Telluride. It was easier to “socially distance” and get outdoor activity. Some resort towns in Colorado were trying to force second home owners to leave because of lack of hospital beds, so we did kind of hide out.
We started flying again, but then go through periods where we feel more comfortable driving. It’s two days - 20 hours. Currently waiting for the weather to clear so we can drive back- probably Saturday.3 -

Kylia Happy birthday!
Well my new plan of 250 calories of exercise a day is enough to make my legs sore. Maybe, as they say, pain is weakness leaving the body! I guess I should have expected this. It's a general achiness, I don't think I injured anything. The payoff will be on the scale tomorrow. I hope. I better drink extra water today.
And yes six minutes on the elliptical is a NSV for me. Thank you for reminding me to celebrate!

Kylia ... Happy Birthday!
Michele ... a titration sleep study will help your sleep neurologist determine which machine and which settings are best for your sleep apnea. Cpap machines deliver one constant pressure (C) and a Bipap is bi-level (Bi) which means there's two pressures ... usually an inhale and an exhale pressure. The titration test is about delivering the correct amount of pressure in the correct manner and this equates to your comfort.
A fine and constant snow is making the roads in Buffalo slick and "greasy." I have no intentions of going anywhere today, that's for certain.

Barbara, February 25th. Are you a February baby too? Dang on the cabana boys though. I'll have to tough it out.

Welcome to All the New Visitors!
I am currently reading more of Pearl Buck's books. Almost finished with Portrait of a Marriage and rediscovering Where the Red Fern Grows. It was a favorite of mine to teach 5th graders. I will look for more of her books that were written during her American years. Read The Good Earth in high school and remember it as being very sad.

Barbara, it's great that you are getting some activity in even if much of it is in the "easy" range. The P.O. Box sounds like a great option.0
