I'm a bit cheered up as well, because the snow is falling straight down in big fat flakes now, and is starting to accumulate. Much safer than the icy conditions this morning. It's also, of course, bitter cold (19 F), which keeps the snow from sticking on limbs and breaking them down. Bless Corey's heart, he built me a fire before he left. I never did get any more sleep, so basically I've been up since 2 a.m. That's OK, nobody is going to ask me to make much sense today anyway. (I already solved the day's Wordle.) I have zero intention of stepping outside other than to get some more wood to put on the fire... Fingers crossed, the electricity has also stayed on so far. I am beyond appreciative.
So is Egg:
She is cleaning the snow off her paws - she insisted on going out through the carport door, so I let her out, and she came back in through her cat door at the back of the house utterly disgusted. Been in front of the fire ever since.SavageMrsMoose wrote: »Lisa- Hello! I drive through Arkansas occasionally on the way to Bloomington, Indiana where my son is at school. It’s a beautiful state! We started flying again, but then go through periods where we feel more comfortable driving. It’s two days - 20 hours. Currently waiting for the weather to clear so we can drive back- probably Saturday.
Melissa - if you take the straight route in between, you probably drive along the Eastern edge of the Ozark National Forest. We live near the Oklahoma border, in the Arkansas River Valley, between the Ozark and the Ouachita National Forests. We came here four years ago because my Alaskan husband wanted trees and mountains and rivers, and I wanted four seasons again. It has been a peripatetic life for the last dozen years, and we're really enjoying being still for a change.
I made buttermilk biscuits in a cast-iron skillet this morning, I've got chicken and broth in the crockpot, and I think the biscuits will end up being the top crust on a kitchen sink rendition of chicken pot pie. In other words, whatever leftovers haven't been used already, plus onions, garlic, celery, carrots, cubed russet potatoes and sweet potatoes, and whatever else looks good. I'll just put the right ones in at the right time throughout the day, so they're not overcooked. When it's time, I'll put the biscuits on top of the mixture in the crockpot, and put the crock in the oven to get them a little crunchy. Should be yummy, and good for a man who's been working in the cold all day. The leftover biscuits I'll throw in the fridge and he can have biscuits and sausage gravy this weekend.
For those who wonder what kind of diet I'm on right now, I've lost about 40 pounds over the last two years, but quite a bit is due to this medical mess I'm trying to straighten out. Not a good way to lose it, but that doesn't mean I need to gain it back, either. At the moment, I'm staying between 170 and 174, and I'm happy with that right now. When I've got my health back under my control, I will start back on CICO, most likely. The maintenance part of it for me at this moment is eating whatever makes me feel good, but small amounts and five or six times a day. As we say often here, you need to pick the lifestyle changes that you will keep doing. Trying to raise my movement levels, too, and made 6,000 steps yesterday for the first time in a long time.
Baby steps!
Later,
Love y'all,
Lisa

Pip - Love the pup photos! They warm my heart. We are looking for a new pup & hope to find one in the near future. Keeping my fingers crossed for a healthy puppy in the next while. ⭐️
The pup beside my name is Schooner. He passed away from cancer last September. We miss him like crazy.

Beth - Congrats on the lost pounds! You've made it through some rough times, my dear. I talked to my sis about her experience with it and will be happy to DM you if you're interested.
Rebecca - You're in my heart--I've been in that place where you're waiting on an order that you don't really want to see arrive, but you know it's inevitable. You are such a strong mama, and I've watched your journey from strength to strength with intermittent fasting with much respect.
Katla - I hope you find the companion you're looking for, dear heart. I know it's been a long time since you lost your four-legged friend and that you've dearly missed him.
Annie - I've been watching your exercise time progression, and I'm so pleased to see your upbeat posts each day.
Allie - I'm glad they're taking it seriously. Hope it all goes well.
Margaret - Your comment on how doctors are focusing on the gut now is right on. Unfortunately, I have paradoxical reactions to almost every over-the-counter thing that's supposed to help.
Anna from Ann Arbor - Glad to have you here, and hope you find the support you need with us...
Quiet day today, filled with the chores I've actually missed doing. Energy levels stayed up for a few hours instead of just a few minutes. Progress has been slow, but it does continue...
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa
Oh Lisa, just love ya girl. Your words give me comfort. Some days I do feel really strong. I belong to a Facebook private group called "Navy Mom Strong" and they have labeled me Group Expert. I get sent questions and my Chief of a husband and I answer them to pass on to the new mommas. Or sometimes I text with them directly. That does help deflect me missing my youngest. Looking beyond my issues to assist these lost mommas. I am their voice of reality. I try not to mention too often when a mom says she hasn't heard from her sailor in a week, I am like, "a week, try June of 2020". Then I tell them my coping skills. So I can talk myself down.👍💖
There are moments when if I go there I might cry and never stop. So I try to be that plane, finding my line of horizon. Getting back to a normal that I live my life in. Lee is great though, just saying goofy things, or just giving me a hug. I will have to pull away from son this week a bit, let him know I will be ok. Let him see I got me sealegs on. It will help him cope with it all more smoothly. Not fun for a sailor to see his mom blubbering like a drowning fish. And I'm kind of an ugly crier! Not makeup smearing, just ugly!
This week I shall not be as serious a faster. I am definitely not OMADing it, just maybe a 16/8 so 8 hours of meal eating and 16 hours fasting. Pretty much just skipping breakfast, eating a meal in afternoon, then maybe something durng my husband and sons dinner time, then a dessert of some kind.
Yesterday was a salad bar at our favorite restaurant. They play great music, so Lee and I are in our happy place just chewing and groovin. I only had a couple sips of my soda, proud of myself for that. Lee's salad is just lettuce croutons and thousand island dressing, so very Orange! Where as mine is a cornucopia of colors. This was the rundown: lettuce, peas, beets, mushrooms, tomatoes, olives, 3bean salad, potato salad, macaroni salad, deviled eggs, ranch dressing and bacon bits. Can you say Yum?!!!

Well I put vinegar to soak in the pan where I burned the pot roast a few days ago. Water didn't do much for the black crust on the bottom. I hope I don't have to buy a new pot; it is a big enamel covered cast iron dutch oven thing. I will try some baking soda next.
And if I'm whining about that, then thank goodness I don't have any real problems!

Its a rainy day on the island, said goodbye to husband as he went off to the gym, and the rain lulled me back to sleep. I know I should be going with him, and I do attend, maybe twice a week. Its such a boring place, and no one is there anymore. I went for the social aspect, and the treat of the sauna, but that has been closed as well as the lockers, and showers. Hopefully one day they will open up.
Lisa your biscuits and stove top chicken pit pie sounds delightful! I shall make chicken and fluffy dumplings, with chicken, peas and rice in the pot. 💖. Love how the dumplings simmering makes the sauce part.
Welcome new friends! A mini bio about me. I have been a mfpal since 2015 after I decided to actually concentrate on me after husband received his complete liver transplant in 2014. It was time. Over the years I have gone from an uncomfortable 265 lb lady to a 230 lb lady who can move around easier. I try to fast at least 16 hours during a 24 HR day. My best IF time is having an eating window during 12 noon and 4 pm, then fast the rest of the time. I know I sleep better being a bit empty, no eating Tums etc. I am married 37 years to my retired Navy Chief, and now have 2 sailor sons active duty and middle son is a veteran. I am getting a bit overly organized in my old age, my home is a bit minimalistic in style, but it displays the things that make me happy. I try to do a crossword a day in pen. I eat a piece of 85% chocolate as a vitamin because I can. Its in a container next to my silver old people multivitamin! I am thankful for being a part of this wonderful band of ladies over the years. We have history and you are like family💖.

REBECCA ~ I know your time of waiting for the deployment to actually take place must be so worrying. Hang in there as we are all there for you. I do 3 crossword puzzles on line every day. Wouldn't dare just depend on pen and paper. It would be the pits for me.
ANNIE ~ When I get a scorched pan, I pour a good bit of baking soda into the pan and add water. Bring it to a good boil for a few minutes and you will probably notice a big difference. Good Luck!
LISA ~ I know your Son in Law is in Poland and wonder if the news has affected his stay there.
Finally realized that I need to again step on the scale each day and move more in the house.
Rainy day in Georgia as the Big O would say.

Rebecca, darlin', your smile is so much happier now--it didn't reach your eyes before. You are a lovely woman. I think one of the absolutely wonderful things about being this age is that we get to define what our strengths are, and they vary as WE choose. In and of itself, the strengths I see in all the women here are beautiful and unique.
Annie - if you have a dishwasher pod or dishwasher soap, you can melt that in hot water and leave it soak. It will take almost anything off. Even if I don't have a dishwasher, I keep some pods around just for that.
The house smells so homey with the crockpot bubbling... I've got bananas and pecans thawing to make some banana bread, but my energy is seeping away, probably because of the restless night. I can always sling them in the refrigerator and bake tomorrow instead.

Try cooking it off. Put some (1/2 inch or so) liquid in the pot, bring it to a boil, and then turn down a bit and leave it for a while to get the black crust off. Scrape it from time to time with a wooden/sturdy spoon and it should come off.

Thank you for your kind words. I use paper a lot! I used my sons living room floor and organized about 20 sets of decorated paper with washi tape and pretty stickers. That makes me happy, plus it makes writing letters to all my pen pals easier. I just put each set of a cover sheet with a sticker, and 3 pages plus a homemade envelope in clear pages in a big binder. Silly but we all do things to put us in our happy place.👍
My loneliness isn't unique in general, just a byproduct of this Navy life. I know on days when I am feeling particularly fragile, you all got my back.💖🙏 That in itself is a comfort. My training as a Navy wife taught me to "gather my forces" to take stock and to reach out. So its unlike me to ever get to a place in my head that's not healthy. That empowers me.👍

Sweet.😁. Its like we've had this older persona hanging in our closet, and now when we decide to don it, it actually feels right, and gives us energy. I love my older self, buy it does help to have a mate that sees the best in you.
Have a great day friend! Oh my soup was heavenly!
Oh I also belong to a Soup Lovers Facebook group, and its nothing but people loving all that's soup.🍲💖👍

Well my new plan of 250 calories of exercise a day is enough to make my legs sore. Maybe, as they say, pain is weakness leaving the body! I guess I should have expected this. It's a general achiness, I don't think I injured anything. The payoff will be on the scale tomorrow. I hope. I better drink extra water today.
And yes six minutes on the elliptical is a NSV for me. Thank you for reminding me to celebrate!

It's called DOMS ... Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness.
And if you look up how muscle builds, you'll see it actually tears ever-so-slightly and repairs.
When it does that, you retain a bit of water so don't be disappointed if you don't see a result on the scale just yet. Stick to it!

Allie — I love Sleepy Time Tea, too, but my favorite is Peppermint Tea. Both are Celestial Seasons teas. YUM! My daughter lived in Longmont, Colorado, several years ago. The two of us went to the Celestial Seasonings plant in Boulder for a tour. It is a great memory. I came home with several tea flavors. None of the teas I brought home has caffeine. (I get plenty of caffeine in my morning coffee.)😊

Kylia - Happy Birthday!
Lisa - hope your power stays on. My son and DD both take biologics. Son has psoriatic arthritis and started on Embrel when it was still experimental as he worked for the company that manufactures it. He has since been diagnosed with Crohn's and was on Humira but has changed again. He has had good luck with all three. DD uses Humira for reactive arthritis but it also treats her sarcoidosis. Sometimes docs will not prescribe a drug or test because insurance will not pay for it. For example if my PCP asks for a vitamin D-125 it will not be paid for but if my pulmonologist requests it it will. Crazy I think.
We have one very lame horse. She is old (29) and layed down in the mud then had difficulty getting back up. She struggled and finally made it but apparently pulled a muscle. We are giving her bute and using liniment. Hope she improves soon.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA6 -

Going to the Celestial Seasonings factory was one of the highlights of our trips to Colorado(that and the Olympic training center and the Air Force Academy)
The peppermint room was great, as was the tasting room.
We have been there both times we went to CO. We went to see where dh was born.
