    Regarding Crosswords ...

A few months ago, I found a book of crossword puzzles and started working my way through them. I've not really done crosswords before and I'm not particularly good at them ... plus this book was written in the USA and half the time I don't know what they're talking about ... but doing new things is supposed to be good for the brain.

I go at it as far as I can go, then I look one or two things up, and then try to keep going.

They've got a lot of US presidents and military stuff as clues, and I wouldn't have the foggiest.

Maybe I'll see if I can find an Australian one next.

Sue - I hope your horse feels better.

Machka thanks for the reminder. I will try to keep my hopes reasonable and just plug away at the exercise. Did my dumbbells tonight, and it's yoga in the morning! 🙂

Sue I hope your horse knows how much you love her 💞 having a horse is the same as owning a dog or cat but the best part is that you can ride it 🐎 She's fortunate to have you 💞 29 years is amazing!

I awakened to a foggy morning and am enjoying my first cup of coffee. It is 7:30 am and a hummingbird is drinking sugar water at one of the bird feeders.

We have an appointment to see parent poodles on February 6 at 11am. I hope we have a good visit & eventually find a healthy puppy. This breed is new to us. Our previous Keeshonds were very sweet, but had health problems. Time will tell. Keeping my fingers crossed for finding the right dog for us.

    Katia,
Sounds like you are doing your due diligence in checking out the parent poodles -- examining their papers, being sure they aren't part of a puppy mill operation, seeing their health, spirits, and intelligence by meeting them in person. You might consider reading up on poodles as a breed -- e.g., what happened when they were overbred to be smaller and smaller. You don't say what size you are looking into. I grew up with miniatures and I'm biased -- I think they're great! Super smart, affectionate, and fun. Hypoallergenic coats, too. Good luck and hope you find the right puppy match, soon. (Though you know what it takes to raise a puppy. Our COVID baby pup is turning 2 years next month and --- wow. He's still giving us a run for our money. But what a doll :=)

Yolo—The poodle mom is a standard. We haven’t seen mom or pups so far. The breeder was recommended by our veterinarian’s staff. We’ve had contact with the breeder and will meet the mom before the puppies are ready to be adopted.

THERE ARE NO QUICK FIXES OR SHORTCUTS to achieving permanent change.
REMINDERS One or two thoughts which might give heart to some of you.
    • Daily weight fluctuations are normal, and can be as much as 2 lbs a day for no apparent reason.
    • A general downward trend is what we are looking for.
    • Eating out can cause apparent weight gain because of high sodium levels, but usually goes quickly. Drinking extra water helps with this.
    • The human body does not react instantly to what we do to it. Sometimes it can take several days to see results.
    • Plateaus are a normal part of the process. The body is consolidating and adapting to your new way of eating/exercising.
    • The closer you get to your goal weight, the more difficult it becomes to lose weight, as your body becomes more efficient at using what you feed it.
    • When you exercise you build muscle, which takes up less space than fat, so use measurements as well as weight to assess your progress.
    • Getting/Staying fit and healthy requires a lifestyle change for most people.
Stick with the process. It DOES work! But it does take time, effort, and most of all, patience!

    Katla,
So excited for your puppy search! Poodles are a wonderful breed but remember there are all kinds of temperament within a breed. I had a dog that would go through fire for food, one that would go through fire for a ball, and one that would go through fire to see me. And one who wouldn't get up for fire! They were each very different living companions, all the same breed. I prefer a very affectionate dog, and one turned out to be very independent. The breeder thought she was fine for me, and I was too smitten to shop wisely. Beware! And take your time. Don't be rushed into a match by scarcity tactics. With my last dog, Teddy, I played with him to judge his interest in food, balls, and me. He was super affectionate from the start.

That's my advice, and it's worth what you paid for it!
