May was better. I did lose a pound last month so there’s that. Retaining water cause of the heat I think.
Had an old fashioned keto breakfast: 2 slices bacon Ororoot Keto toast buttered and topped with sugar free jelly, and a Just Egg prepared egg flip. Yummy! Delta like an old fashioned bacon and egg breakfast but without the eggs or carbs! Lol.
Thank you Barbie for the May thread!

Well today is my first day without my sling.now I start the exercises that I can remember that I did for the shoulder, the pain begins. Still reading the journals when I have a minute. I’m on July/august 1895 and we have moved to Chico California. It’s getting harder to read.
When I mentioned something in the journal to kirby the started to get upset saying I am just dwelling on the past and I can’t let it go. Right now it’s 5:04am and I just realized that reading this makes me appreciate, acknowledge, and be so thankful of what I have now with him and how far I have come from that time.
You need to tell Kirby that.💖

Back again -- in the house cooling down after finally getting everything out of the workroom under the carport (well, the entrance is under the carport). Am bug bombing it now, so won't be going back in there for at least four hours. There are dirt dauber nests, spider webs and schmutz EVERYwhere, and on every single thing I dragged out of there. I'm going to have to hose down or wipe them all down before I decide where they're going to go.
For the uninitiated, dirt daubers. or dirt dobbers or mud daubers are shaped like a wasp, but are usually black or black and yellow (at least the ones I've seen) rather than the red wasps, which are quite aggressive here. Luckily, dirt daubers are not aggressive, though they can sting if you surprise them. However, my annoyance with them is their nests. There are seriously hundreds of nests stuck to the walls of that room, so they've been building in there for decades.
Can't get back in there to show the ones I'm removing, and it would be too dark to get a good picture anyway, but I found a pic on the Internet. Multiply this on every wall by 30 or 40, and it looks like someone went in there with a bucket full of mud and started throwing handfuls of it at the walls.
But right now, it's time to start chipping away at the holes for my five new hostas. Corey brought them to me Monday. Because of his job, we get them at professional cost, rather than the garden centers, which are charging twice as much.
Onward and upward, my chickens, getting out there while I still have some energy.
Love y'all,

Vicki — It is a shame your grandaughter’s mother is bitter and taking it out on you and your granddaughter. Thank goodness for the help of the other grandmother to enable your granddaughter to write. ⭐️2

Good afternoon ladies!
Thank you Barbie for the new thread!
Pip Yay for getting the sling off!
Rebecca great job playing tennis! So impressive.
Lisa so good to hear you are up and doing things.
I'm basically reading a book and trying not to eat much. I ate so much Monday, and I'm trying to compensate some. I came down six pounds in May, but there is a long way to go.
I did an hour of yoga this morning and now my knee is a bit sore again. I wish I could put ice on it without a full interrogation by my mother. She wants me to quit exercising altogether. There's such a small moving gap between training to get stronger and overdoing it. I'm aiming for that gap and I might hit the edge sometimes but I'm not quitting.

Barbie, thanks for a fresh month!
Lanette, I'm so sorry to hear of your DH's passing. {{{HUGS}}}
Vicki, what a blessing the other grandmother is! I so hope that you are able to keep the lines of communication open with your granddaughter, there will come a time (pretty quickly!) that her mother won't be able to control what she does or where she goes (or who she writes to!) and it will be so nice to already have that connection with her.
I ended May a wee bit lighter than I started it, so am a happy camper! Retirement is only 11 weeks away, I'm just a teeny bit excited! Actually, I'm very excited!!! lol
Must dash off to an appointment, but had a few minutes to catch up and do a quick post.
Hugs for those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

Got the dog to the vet this morning for a vaccination. The VW is at the garage getting an oil change and new belts so had to take the truck. My dog dislikes riding in any vehicle so acts like a mule and will not get in. I had to get her front end up and then boost her hind end in. We got to the vet and she refused to get out. The vet tech had to come out to the parking lot and help me lift her out of the truck. Then she was all happy, went on and got her vax, had to boost her back into the truck but thank goodness she jumped out on her own at home. She weighs 60 pounds.
B of A is being crazy again. I turned in the paperwork they wanted for my mom's estate but now they want copies of ids for me my brother and sister but they only need them for the savings account not the checking. Also if I choose to close the trust account they will issue a check made out to the trust and trustee. How can they write a check to an account that will no longer exist and how do you cash or deposit it? This estate business is driving me crazy!

Flea take care of yourself! Here's hoping you can escape the virus. I had a battle with bird flu long ago, with my sick daughter confined upstairs and my immune compromised idiot husband confined downstairs for ten days. I got sick too but I kept sanitizing the doorknobs and handrails and such, and we made it through. Keep believing you can beat this, because you can! Lots of separation, masks, ventilation, whatever you can do. Good luck!

Barbie ... thank you for another month!
Flea ... hang in there!! Maybe you're a "never covid."
Lanette ... you are an incredible woman with an inordinate amount of inner strength. Still, strong women eventually need the support of others. I am glad you have a network of friends around you at this time. Make sure you lean on them when you're ready ...
DrKatie ... no guilt allowed! Your parents (and mine as well) made decisions or refused to make decisions preparing for events associated with aging. You are right in what you're suggesting. Praying your mother sees the wisdom of your words ...
Margaret ... thank you for the information regarding vicious dogs.
Cecil Update ... Cecil had a horrendous night. High agitation, unable to sleep, and hell-bent on destroying his cone and getting to his drain. My husband stayed up all night with him to make certain he didn't hurt himself. The Vet ER had not previously prescribed a sedative (which was stupid given this dog's excessive exuberance on a good day) and wouldn't last night as well. Got ahold of our regular vet and Cecil now has a med to calm him down. Finally he's sleeping and is tolerating the cone. Thankfully, it looks like his wound sites are healing.
Yesterday we travelled into Pennsylvania for a memorial service held for both my aunt and her son who died (at separate times) last year. This was the first the family could travel to their hometown. It was good to see my cousins despite the reason for gathering. They planned on traveling to my mom and dad in Ohio to visit with them before heading back to their homes that range from Alaska to Alabama. It was a nostalgic drive for my husband and I as well, as my husband's family used to own property not too far away and we remembered the roads and towns we were traveling through. It had been over 20 years since we'd been back. We did a stupid thing though. We should have left 15 minutes earlier ... had forgotten about logging trucks slowing down on the rolling hills. Anyways, we arrive with only 2 minutes to spare and we jumped out of the car as soon as it came to a stop. When we got back to the car 2-1/2 hours later, we discovered my husband had left the engine running the whole time!! It has one of those push button starts (no key) and he thinks he must have double hit it. At least the water I left in the car was still cool...

I have some smoked olive oil. It's a nice compliment to many dishes, but can taste a bit strong sometimes. It's a "use in moderation" condiment.

Last year I planted a cherry tomato plant and wasn’t pleased with it. The plant I brought home was very small and produced a few tomatoes that weren’t very flavorful.
I have three excellent blueberry bushes and will be ready to pick in July or August. 🫐
It is the opposite here.
I have 12 tomato plants- I can't imagine not having tomatoes(and cucumbers) I planned on 6-8 but had some volunteer plants show up and couldn't just toss them in yard waste- The volunteer plants seem to do as well or better than planned ones
My blueberry plant is surviving but not growing.
Found I need to put net up around my blackberry plant out front. The mockingbirds ate the three that were just about ripe- There are a lot on that plant but I want them for me, not for the birds- First ones of the season and the birds got them.

Machka, thank you for all the thought provoking inspiring quotes you post. I read them and gain from them but have forgotten to thank you.
A friend of Jake's whom he's known longer than he's known me, is coming for a short visit this morning. He may have his teen age daughter with him. They are from out of state and are visiting his mom who lives about 2 hours from here. We haven't had people over except an occasional neighbour in years so this will be odd.
Jake planted the tomato plant yesterday now that the temperature is staying around 50 overnight.
Barbie in NW WA
Barbie - Hope your tomato does well. We are still getting cold nights here - 40 yesterday morning, but nevertheless I need to get tomatoes planted, maybe today. I saw a doe wandering around trimming various shrubs yesterday so mine might end up in the greenhouse in containers for the heat and protection. Trying a container Roma called "little Sicily". I wonder if that doe has a fawn back under the powerline.
Other than relatives and good friends from out of the area, we haven't had anyone in our house for ages except our cleaner. I'm realizing I can now invite girlfriends in for coffee! Yesterday I was cleaning out a flowerbed and my next door neighbor rode her lawn mower over for a chat. It was great. / I'm so grateful I live here - if I'd still have been on the farm, so isolated in a way, this chapter in my life would have been very different.
Called our attorney yesterday, he said no rush on anything. Washington State is a community property state, and with just the Community Property Agreement he drew up for us 10 years ago, I can get all vehicle titles and deeds transferred into my name. And no rush on that unless I want to sell something. I'll meet with him in a few weeks to get my will and power of attorney updated and get DH's estate stuff wrapped up. And me changing beneficiaries, etc. I made a checklist and am going through it.
Have a great rest of your week!

Worked, had bowling this afternoon. No ceramics tonight. Went for a walk around the block yesterday and will probably tonight. Did go in the pool, tho.
You know, I'm not real happy on the Wednesday bowling league. However, for the summer the Monday league does no-tap which I don't like. So I think next year I'm just going to take the summer off from bowling.
Hey -- my bowling average went up again! However, I did lose the title of the person with the highest handicap on the league. One other lady is one pin higher. Oh well.....
Allie – happy early birthday
Vicki – how wonderful you got that letter! It’s a real shame that you have to use this method for contact, but glad you can
Lisa = those dirt dauber nests, have you taken any down? It looks a lot like these nests we get. But when I knock them down, they leave a red mark (the nests are reddish color probably because we have the red clay). If they leave a mark, how do you get rid of the mark?
Flea – I’m so sorry about your son testing positive
Went for a walk after dinner, then played mahjongg by the pool (first time playing with the new card), packed for the weekend. Going to try to get to bed early since I know I’ll be at work late tomorrow since I’ll give them extra prep for tomorrow

Barbie thank you for the June thread. Have been trying to channel some of your wisdom, especially about releasing expectations…
Lanette
Beth, what everyone else, especially Lisa and Margaret said. There are some dogs who can not be trusted, for whatever physiological or psychological reason. As for dear, sweet, innocent Cecil, he’ll need all your love, support and protection to fully heal. If there is a well stocked pet supply store near you, a ComfyCone might be a little easier on him. https://www.petsmart.com/dog/collars-harnesses-and-leashes/collars/all-four-paws-comfy-cone-dog-collar-5203950.html It worked for Shadow all last summer while she was also on calming meds for the lick granuloma.
Michele I’m sorry for the grief Denise has given Jess, but. . . when Jess called Vince, was she asking for an ear? Is it possible that Vince, in male haste to fix, thought he should punish her sister? I do not think shortchanging your time with PJ is the answer. What Tracey and KJ et al said. Is it too late to reactivate the reservation so you at least can stay and PJ can swim?
Flea praying Covid passes over you without touching down.
Katla baby hummingbirds appeared at Joe’s feeder 2 weeks ago, for a few days. Since then only the Mama at Joe’s and none to mine. Could the blue jays be scaring them away?
Sue is there some kind of financial expert, CPA or??? Who can straighten out that bank?
Stupidly got mask lax and paid the price. Gal across table from me at church council the 22nd, tested positive for Covid. By Wednesday I had sniffles. Headache, sweats, tight throat and cough cough cough. Unable to do much beside one set of knee PT exercises daily. Joe’s been an angel, feeding and walking the dogs, offering to bring me whatever I need from town, helped change linens, even volunteered to vacuum. Didn’t want to test, didn’t want to have to tell Joe what I’d done. Finally my nurse friend persuaded me to pull up my big girl panties, test, and tell. Joe took it very well. Finally started to feel better yesterday. The silver lining is all this rest has made my knee feel much better. Left house for the first time today, to walk with Joe and the dogs down to the powerline. That’s it for my energy.
No May summary.
So big a gap in my spreadsheet doubt I could ever backfill. Rethinking approach. Borrowing Lisa’s simpler way:
1. Move more.
2. Fuel better.
3. Live now.
Will track steps and CI<CO for 1 and 2, all the other “bonuses” will come under the heading of 3.
Lighter, lovelies!

Today when I was in our gyms sauna, I was sitting in there just me, (thank goodness) because I had gotten a blister on my foot which I hadn't even noticed. It had done its job (natures bandaid) and was hanging off my foot like a zombie woman....😂😂. Oopsy, pulled it off quickly before anyone that came in noticed! Even my fingers are sore! What people don't realize is to hit a firm and solid shot, you need to really hold tight to your racket. Otherwise your racket can't really help you through your follow thru. I was in the sauna for 20 minutes like a lizard.😁

Lanette: Feel my giant hug coming down the wire. You are opening a whole new chapter of your life. A life free of the shackles of caregiving. Keep smiling and going forward with an open heart. May 31st marked one year since I became a widow. Maybe next Memorial Day you and I should run off to somewhere fun....
Pip: I have been re-reading my journal from last year. Since I know revisiting those memories triggers tears, I keep my mourning to the morning hours. Hugs to you and hope that shoulder gets better fast.
Beth: Healing thoughts for Cecil.
I went to a 10 year high school reunion, and then a 20 year grammar school reunion. Two weeks from today I will be hosting two ladies who were in my high school class. We reconnected 9 months ago on FB, One met me for dinner in San Diego this past March, but the other I literally have not seen in 48 years! They are spending 3 nights at my place, a stressful but wonderful treat. I have tickets to see Chicago+Brian Wilson at Red Rocks, but beyond that we have no solid plans. I have some work to do to get my house well cleaned and dusted as one of the ladies is allergic to cats. Mars has a hotel reservation beginning the day before they arrive. As for food, I'll stock up on basics for easy to make meals and snacks. Entertaining does not come easily and it is a challenge for me to not lose sleep if everything is not absolutely perfect for guests. Deep breaths....
Work continues to thoroughly amuse me. Over last 10 days I worked at the play Cats, symphony
Beethoven's 9th (twice), Infamous Stringdusters (bluegrass music), and Trey Anastasio (guitarist from Phish). Coming up this weekend is comedy by Hannah Gasby and concert by Wierd Al Yankovic.
Yesterday was emotional. I was so touched by how many people remembered Bruce's passing and checked in on me. I spent half the day with a friend who had a consult with her doctor and then took me to lunch, and then later my niece took me to dinner. I miss my sweetie. I miss being someone's sweetie. Hug your peeps and loved ones!
Stay well, friends. We can do this.
