I am in remission for breast cancer, have Type 2 Diabetes, an under active thyroid, high blood pressure and cholesterol, some osteoporosis and coronary heart disease with a stent in my heart. I'm Sherri and live in BC. My long term goal is to lose 40Ibs by next September. I know this is feasible but lately I haven't had any luck with losing weight. We have a Ireland trip planned for then. I'm hoping the weight loss will help with my arthritic knees and back so I can enjoy the trip.

I’ve missed the group. You are all such an inspiration! I had to take a break for part of the summer. I took a nice relaxing trip to Hawaii from the first part of Sept to Sept 17. Two days back home & I tested positive for Covid. It was not pleasant and I took Paxlovid anti-viral. I’ve got a mild rebound case now. (grrr)
October 4 - 130.5 - I have been trying to not stress out my body and have been trying to eat food that will support my immune system as well as not do strenuous exercise. Hoping my energy levels will come back soon.

Resting Calories vs Active CaloriesMany of us have a device that calculates our calories burned during exercise and forwards that data to MFP. MFP gives you the option to add these calories to your daily allowance.
Based on my experience with what my food/exercise logging tells me and what I observe when I weigh, I have long suspected that I don't burn as many calories during exercise as my Garmin watch calculates. Because of this, I've not been comfortable adding all active calories to my daily allowance, but I've wanted to be able to add at least some.
I just learned that for calories burned, Garmin calculates both a resting calories and active calories! I had never noticed that before! And what Garmin sends to MFP is the total calories burned. This explains a lot!
I went back and reviewed a bunch of activities and saw resting calories varying from as low as 10% to as high as 40% of total calories burned. Then I began thinking how the activity time affects that ratio. I noticed that on average the resting calories is roughly around 100 calories/minute. So, I figured I could double the minutes of exercise and get an approximate number for resting calories. To check that assumption, I did a search and found this:
According to the American Council on Exercise, the average person burns 0.02 calories per minute at rest, per kg of body weight. Since I weigh around 100 kg, that comes out to 2 calories/minute!
Hopefully, I will now be able to see a better correlation between my day-to-day calorie deficit (or excess!) and my weight.

I am not surprised to see my weight bouncing all over again. I injured my shoulder two weeks ago and haven't been able to go back to the gym. I find that getting in that workout helps keep me motivated to eat well as well as reduces my stress levels. Hopefully I will be healed up soon and be able to hit those weights again.8 -

I turned 46 yesterday and I’m quite excited about that. I do enjoy living another year! 🥳. I asked for and received a rowing machine for my birthday which pretty much completes my home gym. I really love it so far.
Anyway, I have made my 15 pound lost goal, reached One-derland, fit into a medium workout pants and guys I feel amazing. It’s like reversing aging.

My rate of loss has slowed to a crawl, even though I'm doing everything right. I keep waiting for a big drop but it may not happen. Now that I am more than halfway to my goal weight this may just be how it's going to go from now on. Anyway, I haven't felt this good in 20 years.

Prepped my meals for the next few days. Today, I had egg salad for lunch and chicken thighs and green beans for dinner. Really trying low carb/low glycemic index for a few days.
Didn't buy any chips or sugary treats at the grocery store and have none at home.
Hope this starts a positive trend of eating low carb which gives me energy.7 -

I'm jumping back in. I need to get healthy. This morning I did some gentle yoga followed by a 30 minute walk holding 2 lb each handweights. Baby steps I know, but I need to start out easy or I will stop.
Current weight 168. Desired weight on Dec 4 for Dr appointment 160 or less. I feel 8 lbs is a reasonable mini goal. Then I will reassess.5 -
