I don’t know if it was just me, but MFP was giving me issues logging in yesterday and earlier today.
This is yesterday’s run. Speed work. 5 x 1k @ 5k pace with 400m recovery. My splits were consistent but slow, about 40 secs slower than target (waaay off!). I put the workout in Garmin and didn’t miss any cues and it seemed like I was running in the range I set. I am wondering if I did some math wrong. The workout was written in km and I needed to convert the time targets in my plan to a pace for the Garmin reminders, so I used min/mile since that is a number that makes more sense to me. I probably messed it up. Initially I thought maybe I was just running too cautiously because it was raining throughout this run and the sidewalks were a little slippery in spots. And it was dark so even with my light I was working a little to dodge all the storm debris. I’m sure those things played a role, but math might have also been a factor. Oh well. I was still pushing it. I love these rainy runs. There was NO ONE out and it’s so quiet!
That storm was ahead of a lovely cold front. This morning it was low 50’s and beautiful! But it was my rest day, so no running. But, I had to be up early because my kid had theater rehearsal, so I took my coffee and went on a walk in the cool, crisp dark. It was like 6am and low 50’s is cold for Houston, so only saw 2 people out walking dogs but I heard an owl and saw a possum. I guess everyone else was waiting for the sun to warm everything up!6 -
8 miles this evening. I guess this was technically a speed day, so I did 8 miles at marathon pace. It did feel a little hard, but after that grueling 14 miler on Sunday that is not unexpected. But temps were very pleasant at 64F and low 17% humidity.

@Scott6255 - well done on 8, bud! 🤷2 -

Morning all.
Woke up in the zone... Nice sugary chai... Legs didn't give any issues... So got in a 10K!
PS: @martaindale - thanks Sarah 😊6 -

Thanks Teresa, and thanks all. Yayy to the little Marathon-mini-champ! 46 is pretty impressive, considering! Something tells me he will be running more with his Dad for future events, lol.

@Fit2btied2016 thanks T! And hope you feel better soon

I ran 5 miles with a friend this morning. Temp read 37F on my car but it was breezy and felt much colder to begin. I ended up shedding my gloves and unzipping my jacket part way through the run.4

YAY! I had an excellent run! I think I finally found my running karma back. Well, kind of anyway. Still nowhere where I used to be (a wee bit faster only) but running is getting easier again. These 45 minutes were faster than all previous similar runs. Intervals 10min warmup, then fast with corresponding slow 2, 4, 3, 2, 3, 2mins, cooldown.6 -

8 miles at marathon pace with warmup/cooldown for a total of 10. It was amazing perfect gorgeous weather here this morning!! 41F when I got started, but sunny, and the humidity wasn’t even high. I mean, perfect! Which also means, I totally overshot my pace. I only hit target on 1 mile and the rest were 10-45 secs too fast. My overall pace including my WU/CD was faster than my target pace. Again, I really did try to slow down. It’s just so much easier to run when it’s not a bajillion degrees outside. Also wore my new favorite shoes, so feeling speedy.6 -
@Fit2btied2016 You’re definitely allowed to whine about the smoke. That sounds really hard to live in.
@yirara So glad you had a good run! It’s so nice when things start clicking together.
@tarun_yadavA mmmmm, chai. With the cooler weather today, that sounds perfectly cozy.1 -
@Fit2btied2016 dang those fire conditions sound horrible. Sorry y'all are having to deal with that!
Did 7 miles this evening. Another speed day, but mostly by accident 😊 I started out just trying to go easy, but I wore my Speed shoes and I really think they make me go faster. It felt like I was going about the same as yesterday, but the pace was about 20-30 sec /mi faster. So I just went with it and then on the last mile pushed it to see what I could do. Sub 7:30 on the last one. I'll take it.

I forgot to post yesterday. I ran 6 miles. It was 45°F. I wore shorts and a t-shirt and gloves. I was chilly starting out, but I was really pretty comfortable. I did see another skunk. He didn't seem to notice me. I didn't run this morning. I was planning to go get my blood work done, but I decided to go on Friday instead.

Turned hot again here. That was a nice 1 week of fall! So just did 4 miles on the treadmill. I didn't enjoy it that much.

Weather makes a big difference when it comes to pace. If you were actively trying to slow down, maybe you were right on pace for those particular conditions?
@Fit2btied2016 that sounds awful about the smoke. Hope it clears soon.
@Scott6255 sorry Fall is over 😆
I've been resting up for a weekend trip to the mountains with church friends. Many of them aren't in shape for what I want to do, but then neither am I... depending on how I feel and how early we arrive, I may take off with a headlamp, and aim to be back in time for dinner tonight... and as for Saturday, either I'll just go along with their easy route, or suggest a better route I picked out. Or maybe I won't do any of that, and will sit with tea on a balcony and enjoy the leaves that way.8 -

Morning everyone! Got in a 4.5.
Gonna rest up for awhile now.
PS: @Fit2btied2016 ha! I'm a big unit... 6ft1 and range between 175-185 lbs. So thats why that calorie burn number looks large!6 -

I figure I only have 20-22 runs in me this month.
(Going away on holiday to South Africa at the end of the month for 2 weeks... Don't think some of the places I'm going lend themselves well to outdoor runs [and gives me a chance to rest my glute-hammy!])
I think that's me done for the month! 126.6.
Might be able to run on the 31st when in Durban, but gonna use Hotel gyms till then (and the safari bit in Kruger National Park doesn't really lend itself to outdoor running! Lol !)

What taper? Hmm, sort of...I am not going out and doing the yard work I normally would be doing. Not going to risk pulling muscle in back or groin. Every year, I tend to pull one the week before. Not this year. Normally, I would be out in the yard working on getting things ready for winter and such.
Just got back from packet pick up. Running partner A went with me. Got my shirt and number. We actually got the first three numbers.
101 Me
102 E
103 A
This year's theme is pancakes! The medal is a pancake with butter running off. Will have pictures tomorrow. My shirt has pancakes on the sleeve!
I did 15.33 miles this morning....a tenth less than yesterday...does that count as taper?7 -
You are so inspiring @AlphaHowls! Looking forward to seeing the pictures!3

I was lazy this morning and didn't get out for a run. I'm working from home today though so I went out at lunch for 5 miles. My cat doesn't mind that I'm sweaty and stanky for the rest of the afternoon. If any meetings come up, the camera will definitely be off! :-)
I'm heading out of town this weekend for a bachelorette get-away. I'm too old to be a bridesmaid!7 -

Another odd run. My anaerobic threshold was about 5bpm lower than usual at the moment, and so was my HR when just running basically. So my garmin thought I did a baserun while I was running my wee heart out. This should at least have been a threshold run. Oh well... I'll try to get a slow longer run in tomorrow.5 -
Has been a few days since I've had time to comment, again. I did read through all that I missed. You are all doing great with your running!
Welcome @mollyeliz00 ! You've found a very supportive group, regardless of distance or speed. Are you following a marathon training plan?
I'm glad the skunk you saw on Monday ran away when startled and didn't spray @kgirlhart .
@Fit2btied I hope the fires have gotten under control and you did get some rain. You are smart to not run when the air quality is so bad.
@eleanorhawkins I'm glad you are feeling better. You're going to do great and surprise yourself.
@tarun_yadavA Congrats to your son on his race!!!! You did great for the month! Enjoy your trip. Running during the safari could come in handy if the vehicle you are in breaks down. Let's hope that doesn't happen.
@martaindale Maybe that is your marathon pace when the weather is great! Yeah for speedy new shoes.
Have a great race tomorrow @AlphaHowls ! Looking forward to the race report and seeing your pictures. Are there pancakes at the finish line?
Great running. Enjoy your weekend @Teresa502 .
@yirara Garmin just doesn't always know what it is talking about. You did great!

I won't bore you with all the details, but I have either walked or ran what I could given the time I had available..except for Sunday, when I chose to keep my "rest day," and yesterday when I chose to nap a couple of hours instead of running. LOL
Today I ran on the treadmill simply because I haven't cleaned the leaves off of the driveway yet and am afraid they are too slick for running. I ran what I will call intervals (really a wun) of 3 min run/2 min walk at 3.8 mph. The runs I did at 4.5, 4.7, 4.9, (6x5.0), 6.0 mph. My average HR was 121 bpm and max was 143 bpm. I could have kept that up longer, but had to stop so I could take my car to get checked out.
This is the car I got from my dad when he passed away. I got a new battery, but the battery is draining overnight, so I haven't been driving it. I charged it up this morning and took it over the the mechanic I use. He checked the battery to make sure I just didn't get a bad one, but it seems to be okay. So, it's a mystery I hope he can solve - had to leave it with him.
When I got home, I spent over 1.5 hours cleaning out my gutters and getting leaves off of the roof and porches. I know this will not be the last time, but there were so many, I felt I needed to do it while I had the time. Before and after pictures in the spoiler.
Before.
After.
Before
After
Pile of leaves on the walkway after knocking them off of the roof. The pole is the one I use to reach the leaves high on the roof. I am calling this strength training as my arms were fatigued when done. There is another roof I didn't take pictures of. I had to quit before I got them all off. My arms just couldn't do it any more. Maybe tomorrow.5
