Great running @Scott6255 . Those conditions sound brutal. Congrats on reaching 100 miles already this month!

Whoops, I'm on a roll! Been fighting for weeks to get an easy run in, and today it happened. Managed to stay below for about 4km and hence didn't start to hit the wall after some 40 minutes. Running basically was super easy today. Yeah, it's still super slow, but there's some progress. I'm always way ahead of my goal and I ran three days in a row. No idea where all this energy comes from.6 -

Today the ladies from church (10 of us) had planned a trip to the mountains. Some don't get around as well as others, so we picked a mountain that's accessible by car. I was one of the drivers, and by the time I got around to collecting my passengers and getting there, I was already tired by the time we arrived. But we had great food and a great time together at a restaurant with a beautiful view, then went for a very short walk on a trail. The leaves are beautiful this time of year.
Last time I was here, I had parked in the town in the valley, power hiked up, took a picture just like the top picture here, then ran back down and power hiked up the big mountain visible on the other side, took a picture from that side and then jogged back down to my car. Sigh 😕. Must. Not. Lose. Hope.
So beautiful! These look like postcards!

I got home late last night and finally got a run in today so that you all won't kick me off the challenge! I ran 5.40 miles and walked 1.32 as a cool down. It was cloudy and 60F so generally very nice. A short recap and a few pictures of my hiking adventures is in the spoiler below if interested.My two friends and I left after work on Thursday and drove to Atlanta. We had free use of a condo about 40 minutes from the airport where we spent the night. We caught a plane to St. George, Utah on Friday arriving late afternoon. On Saturday, we explored the historic area of St. George. They had an arts and craft market in the town square and lots of cute little stores. We met with our tour guide at 5:00 pm for orientation of our hiking adventure.
Our guide picked us up at 5:30 am on Sunday morning. Counting the guide, there were 7 people in our group and we all made fast friends. We drove to Zion National Park which was about an hour away. This is us on Day 1 in Zion hiking up to Scout's Lookout. After lunch, we hiked to the Emerald Pools and then set up camp in Zion where we would spend the next two nights.
Walking up Wally's Wiggles:
On Day 2 (Monday), we hiked the Virgin River Narrows. The hike starts with a paved Riverside Walk for about a mile and then you enter the river and hike upstream for 1.5 miles. Even though we had neoprene socks and water shoes on, the water was still pretty cold. After lunch, we hiked back to camp and headed to an area where we could get a hot shower and enjoy a cup of coffee before dinner.
On Day 3 (Tuesday), we packed up camp and drove 2 hours to Bryce Canyon National Park where we stopped and hike the Fairyland Loop trail. After the hike we drove about an hour to Escanlante country and set up camp.
This formation reminded me of a cat:
Home for the next three nights:
On Day 4 (Wednesday) we drove down a very bumpy dirt road (Hole-in-the-Rock) to Devil's Garden National Recreation Area and hiked through the red sand and explored three slot canyons (Two Rivers, Peek-a-Boo and Spooky).
On Day 5 (Thursday), we drove to Calf Creek Falls and hiked along a flat, sandy canyon bottom to a beautiful waterfall. The water was so cold! We had a picnic lunch and returned to the campground where some of us hiked a trail to the petrified forest.
On Day 6 (Friday), we packed up camp and headed back to Bryce Canyon where we hiked from Sunset Point to Sunrise Point. Queen Victoria's Garden:
It was 32F when we started the hike but quickly warmed up to 75F by lunch time. After lunch we headed back to St. George via Zion National Park. We got back to the hotel around 4:30 where we unpacked and repacked, ate dinner and had an early to bed night.
The temperature at night in Escalante country got down to around 40F but would warm up to the 80s once the sun came out during the day. Sleeping on the ground in a tent was chilly to say the least. The full moon and the stars were amazing though and we built fires nightly where we would sit around and roast marshmallows and talk before crawling deep into our sleeping bags.
Saturday morning we headed to the airport and flew back to Atlanta and then drove on home arriving around 11 pm - it was long travel day and today has been spent doing unpacking, doing laundry, cleaning sleeping pad, pillows, shoes, etc. Back to the grindstone tomorrow so that I can make money for more of these trips!7 -
@Scott6255 It has been super gross the last couple of days. We got a little peak of fall then it was like summer is back! Supposed to get nice again this week again though and I am eagerly awaiting the cool mornings.
@tarun_yadavA Your son is adorable. He’s going to do great on his mini-marathon!I got home late last night and finally got a run in today so that you all won't kick me off the challenge!
We would never kick you out! If we did, we wouldn’t get to see all your super cool hiking pics!!
@Fit2btied2016 That’s really nice of you. I am in the middle of marathon training so running more than I typically do, but it’s always nice to hear!

Recovery miles on the treadmill again. Like @scott6255 mentioned, it’s gross here again and I wanted to sleep in this morning (9.5 hours - you jealous @tarun_yadavA?). We have some much nicer temps rolling in this week. We will even get some lows around 40!! So excited!
The renaissance festival was fun. I love seeing all the costumes and watching some silly shows.4 -
@yirara Congrats on your easy run! I love days that everything just seems to work. Great job on being ahead of your goal too.
@Teresa502 Welcome home. You know we would never kick you out of the challenge. That looks like an amazing trip! Love the pictures. That area of the country is so pretty. Where do you find these excursions? They look like so much fun and not something very many people get to do.
I say that was good thinking to sleep late and run on the treadmill @martaindale ! You are doing great following your plan and getting in all those miles.

@Teresa502 such beautiful pics! I really need to get to Utah one day!2
-
Hello! I am new to the group and will complete 15 miles by the end of this month!
8 -
Morning all.
@laurajeanne123 - welcome ! 😊
@Teresa502 - wow! That looks amazing. What was the Narrows hike like?
@martaindale - awww thanks Sarah! 😊 He's got his run tomorrow and is now confident about it having done the distance twice!
And 9.5 hours... 😲. So jealous.
I started binge watching some Netflix horror with my teenager yesterday. Last night - and it's gone 10pm, and I'm just staring at the ceiling 🤦
Barely got 6.5 here let alone 9.5! Lol3 -
Morning! Got my 9k in.5
-
Welcome @laurajeanne123 ! Feel free to join in on the conversation, introduce yourself - your running history and goals, etc. You've found a very supportive group regardless of your fitness level.
Maybe at least one day of cross training @tarun_yadavA . You are doing great.1 -
@quilteryoyo yes, that's the plan. First week of the trip, I plan on using Hotel gyms and going for walks/hikes so well rest up my legs (and my right glute-hammy niggle).
Just hit up the cross trainer and rower for an hour or so every morning before breakfast buffet closes! Lol4 -
Elliptical*
Some reason you guys across the pond call it an elliptical, whilst it's called a cross trainer over here.
Add to list of: jelly/jam , chips/crisps etc etc5 -
10/2 – 7.07 miles
10/3 – 5.01 miles
10/5 – 5.6 miles
10/16 – 5.4 miles
10/17 – 5.56 miles
Total – 28.64 miles
Met a friend for an early morning 5.5 miles. It was a nice 56F. We have a cold front coming through though and the low is forecasted to be in the 20s for the rest of the week.
@quilteryoyo – We used Wildland Trekking for the Utah trip. We used them last year for our Grand Canyon rim-to-rim hike and were pleased, plus you get a 10% discount for future trips!
Welcome @laurajeanne123!
@tarun_yadavA – I loved the Narrows hike. We got an early morning start so the water was a little cold. I think it would have been more enjoyable to do in the afternoon when it was warmer but as we were finishing up, it was getting really busy so there is the advantage of fewer people churning up the water in the mornings. Our guide was good about steering us across the channels in the right places. You still had to be careful of foot placement on the rocks in the water. Sounds like you have a good workout strategy in place for your trip!

@Teresa502 sounds Incredible! Your pics looks amazing too1
-
That sounds like a great plan @tarun_yadavA .
Thanks for the info @Teresa502 . Now to learn how to pack pack hike and camp. LOL. I may recommend to a friend who loves camping.

4 days of running is too much for me Today my legs were acidic from the beginning. Just no energy at all. And for some reason the weather decided to be very humid and very warm today. In bloody mid October! No running tomorrow. But I still somehow need to get 10k steps in for a special Garmin badge: walk 10k each for 10 days in a row. Will have dinner with my dad tomorrow evening anyway. Should be fun.5 -
Hi everyone, I’m new to the group and excited to hopefully get some running motivation and accountability! I’m training for my first ever marathon in February and would love all the advice. I’m also the slowest runner I know :O6
-
October Goal: 100 Miles
10/2 - 13.13 miles
10/4 - 5.52 miles
10/5 - 6.02 miles
10/6 - 6.27 miles
10/9: 14.02 miles
10/11: 5.33 miles
10/12: 5.36 miles
10/13: 6.05 miles
10/15: 11.10 miles
10/17: 5.16 miles
77.96/100 miles completed for October
We never got any rain yesterday. It was kind of drizzly, but no measurable rain. I went ahead and ran 5 miles today. I usually don't run on Mondays, but since I took off yesterday I thought I would run today. Plus, I have to go on Wednesday for some follow-up bloodwork, so I'll be fasting and figured that it would be a better rest day than today. The weather was really nice. I did see a skunk. He started to cross the street and we both just stopped and stared at each other. I gasped and he looked around quickly and then he turned and ran off. I think he wanted to avoid me as much as I wanted to avoid him.
@Teresa502 Those photos are stunning!

@mollyeliz00 welcome! You clearly haven't met me yet, I'm probably slower!5 -
Good morning all.
Got my usual 9k in. (3 more runs till I rest up for a week!)
@Fit2btied2016 - thank you! Can't wait for 3.30 to see/hear how he did!6 -
@tarun_yadavA can't wait to hear how it went!
I seem to be over the worst of my taper cold, thank goodness. Watch still claims I'm over-fatigued despite behaving more or less like a vegetable and eating way too much junk, but hey ho. I've been running short runs later in the day because the location of my race is usually hotter than down here on the coast, but just checked the forecast and it says 80% chance of rain. I hadn't factored rain in, better start thinking about that possibility. So nervous. So excited. So scared I'm going to die. So resisting signing up for a half on Nov 13th and a full marathon at the end of April until I see if I survive lol.8 -
Hi everyone!
He did it! No stopping. Placed 46 out of 206 kids!10 -
Yay! Way to go mini @tarun_yadavA2
-
No run today but I did a couple of virtual workouts this morning and will get a walk in at lunch.
@eleanorhawkins - You got this!! You've embraced the taper and you will do more than survive and if it rains I hope it's one of those light, refreshing ones that waits until you are almost finished.
Welcome @mollyeliz00! I'm a proud member of the slow runners club! A mile is a mile no matter the speed!
@Fit2btied2016 - That's scary about the fires and the smoke. I hope they are contained and that you get a nice, slow soaking rain. Hope you friend in the hospital is doing better.4 -

@Scott6255 - thanks buddy 😊4 -
Welcome to @laurajeanne123. Jump right in and let us know how things are going.
Welcome @mollyeliz00 too. What marathon are you doing? How’s training going so far? We have a couple of people marathon training right now so you’re in good company.
Congrats to mini @tarun_yadavA!! Well done!
