Oregon mom,
I respectfully disagree concerning your comments about parents knowing why children don’t talk to them. After a year of family counseling with my daughter the therapist called it quits because my daughter has no reason not to talk to me as far as she could say. The counselor felt my daughter was just going to counseling to make me spend my money and really has no justifiable reason to say the things that she does.
My daughter also spreads lies about me in a club we both belong to.
According to her I’m upset because I had to pay $4000 out of pocket for her to do a semester abroad in Scotland and trying to not pay for her college loans as promised and as part of the divorce. My belated ex-husband got out of paying anything and I got saddled with the loans.
The reality is her college is completely and totally paid for each semester at a time for all the semesters I was in charge of the FASFA and the financial paperwork. The $40,000 we ended up with in loans are from the semesters where she and her father got mad at me and cut me out from everything and they screwed up the paperwork.
So here I am paying off $40,000 in debt that I had nothing to do with. The $20,000 for that semester and Scotland will be paid off by the end of the year.
Yes my daughter thinks I have a bad attitude towards the debt. I do and as the counselor told her I have a right to because the debt was incurred by her father and her and not by me and I have paid $309 a month every month except for 1 when I did not know the payment was suspended due to COVID.
I reflected on this many times and there is really no reason for her behavior. But she is an adult and if she doesn’t wanna have anything to do with me that’s up to her. The debts in my name as co-signatures and in my bursar account so she went to the University where I worked, so I’m paying it off.

Question.. anyone sweat for no reason even though you are way past menopause? I’m 66 and can go from shivering to sweating by just putting on a light sweater! Weird….

Here's where I am this month with walking.
Machka in Oz
not sure the # in kilometers but I am at 92 miles so far for this month. 167 for Sept.170 in Aug.
Looking forward to talking with the wellness coach this afternoon to see what I need to do different to loose some weight(plus get my other numbers down too)
Almost time to head out to walk another 5miles plus Zumba tonight. My friend that took me to my first class but then stopped going to go to another gym, is now back going with me. It is just once a week now that it gets too dark to do it in the park at 6:30PM but her and I or another friend and I walk for that hour instead. This week we won't as the teacher is having everyone meet for a little get together at a Mexican place a couple blocks away. I will walk a little extra that day -street tacos are what I will be having that night.2 -

I understand. You do know the reason. Whether it's justified or not is a completely different issue.
I wasn't trying to say that kids always have a good, understandable reason, certainly they don't. I realized after I posted that I didn't make that clear. But as parents, I think we do know their reasons, even if we disagree with them and think they are unfair.

Jeannie,
My experience with paying off a family member's debt is that he resents me because I am a reminder of his failure to pay his own way.
Even if you didn't have a bad attitude towards your daughter's debt and never mentioned it, it would not be at all surprising for your daughter to resent you for paying off her debt.
I kept my older brother's house out of foreclosure, and eventually paid off his mortgage. He subsequently sold the house, and, now that he is eligible for Social Security & Medicare, has a reasonable lifestyle supplemented by the proceeds from the house sale. I would do it again. I don't want my siblings living on the streets.
Not surprisingly, he resents me for paying off his mortgage. I am a reminder of his failure.
It's unfortunate, but not uncommon for people to resent their benefactors. It's humiliating to be unable to pay your own way, and no matter how gracious you may be, your daughter's resentment is predictable.

I just shrug my shoulders and feel glad he isn't homeless.

Oh, thank goodness I have never paid any of my children's debts and never would. Lending or giving money to family is never a good idea. I once gave my son £200 for food for the month, but that was enough. My children paid their own uni bills by government loans and have paid them off. I don't see why a parent should pay anything. When a child reaches 18 they are independent. Both of mine worked part time at uni.
We had a brilliant time at Fatto.
Kids loved being with us and without their parents. The staff sang Happy Bithday and gave DH a Neapolitan lucky charm. Edie made DH his favourite lemon drizzle cake all by herself with absolutely no supervision!!! It is delicious 😋.
Seeing them again tomorrow when we pick up Bea.

Rita - ME too! I have a very narrow temperature comfort range. Seems like anything below 63, I'm freezing. Above 68, I'm roasting.
Weatherman says smoky and unsafe air is now to continue thru Thursday. Then Friday... here comes the rain unless they change their minds.
I purchased a little air compressor/tire inflator off Amazon. I got the el cheapo, and it was kind of a "challenge" but managed to get the tires on DH's 2006 Camry inflated up to proper level yesterday without too much "blue" air spewing out of the garage, lol.
If I traveled any distance at all I would have gotten a more high quality compressor like Karen has shown us in the past. I'll still stick this one in the trunk anyhow.
I'm taking the car in to Les Schwab tire store early Thursday morning and have them take a look. Sitting semi-flat for over a year can't have been good for them, but they are holding air. Still, not sure that I trust them. Then I'll get the oil changed and it should be a good little back-up car in case the Subaru gets sidelined.
Jeannie - I've heard similar stories. So sorry you are stuck with paying these loans. If you want, I can send a virtual cast iron frying pan aimed at your ex-husband's head. Just for the fun of it.
Heather - what a nice party! Happy Birthday to your DH, he looks like he's having a great time. What a cute photo of younger you! And of course you have matured beautifully.
Barbie - good job getting the fence finished. I liked the "bone meal" idea.
Katla - sorry to hear about the illness in your husband's facility and quarantine. Sounds like he's in a good place to weather it, they'll take good care of him. Hope he can join you soon.

Actually , I think my younger son's father did help with my son's accommodation fees. I was divorced at the time and my son was living with me in the holidays. Fortunately I was too poor to contribute anything. The grandparents helped my first son with the same, but he was living with my husband as we each had a two bedroom apartment.
Bit scared for my younger son right now as my DDIL is considering buying a very expensive house instead of the planned renovation of the one they are living in. Mortgage rates are going up and it would cost a fortune. The stamp duty alone is £136,000. You read that right. I hope they don't do it. The renovation cost is bad enough, taking all their savings, and they will have to rent for 6 months. Personally, I would give it a miss and just enjoy my life in a slightly inconvenient house.

After watching numerous Youtube videos and searching, I finally was able to delete Google Drive. I actually think my computer is loading quicker now. Before, it had been taking a lot of time to go from site to site!
Today is the start of early voting in Georgia. We will be going soon to get it over with.

Heather - LOVE the picture of you at 15. You are and were gorgeous Oddly enough, looking at that pic reminded me that I've never seen you with a fringe (what we could call 'bangs'). Just wondered if something happened to change your ideas on how your hair should be styled? Happy birthday to Johnny - he and my son John are only three days apart...
Rita - I had all the inside lady bits evicted in 2001, but still get occasional sweats for no reason.
Rough morning after getting my blood draws done, but am on the other side of it now. I've got a 9 am telemedicine appointment with the hematologist on Wednesday morning, so at least I can stay home to talk to her. Hoping last month's infusion did the trick for my iron levels.
Carla, thank you for asking - if you put Lisa C Hannon into a search on Amazon, you'll find my books - This Little Pig is a mystery novel, and She's Thinking Out Loud and Still Thinking Out Loud are collections of my opinion columns over about a ten-year span. If you have Kindle Unlimited, they're free to read... Other books listed on my author pages are anthologies that I was asked to submit to and edit for a writer's club in Texas for years.
Later, y'all,
Love,

DH has been transferred to a hospital & my daughter has taken me there. I am sitting beside him. I spoke to him yesterday evening. Awhile later he was taken to a hospital.
Our daughter brought me here & I am sitting beside him. I am happy to be with him. He will have an MRI soon. I hope it will be helpful.
Keeping my fingers crossed for good luck. 🤞🏻 ❤️ 🙏🏻11 -
Worked, went to bowling, ceramics tonight. A lady on my bowling team mentioned about the company she had replace her roof. I'm so glad. The lady next door had some landscaping done (we wonder if she's planning to put her house on the market. We understand that her husband left her). Anyway, this guy came and wanted to sell us mulch for 1/2 off. Then he mentioned how he can replace the roof, that that's one of the other things he does. Don't ask me to explain it, but I just have a funny feeling. I don't have one about the company she recommended. Vince said he was going to call them and mention her name. Good!
Rosemarie – you’re treadmill is in the garage because of caretaking? Why can’t you have it in the house?
Heather – I must have missed it. Happy Birthday to Johnny
Heather – how lovely you were at 15, just like you are now
katla – I’m so sorry to hear that your husband was transferred to a hospital. What happened? I hope nothing real serious.

I have another doctors appointment on Wednesday. Thinking I might need an X-Ray or something. My stomach is processing ok, but its when it goes thru my intestines that the tightness, soreness happens. Yesterday, after totally cleaning myself out with Milk of Magnesia (I know TMI), I had broth and both doses of Meta Mucil. I had a terrible night of moaning, crying and endless baths. Its such a cycle. I have cleaned myself out 2 times, eating easily digestible foods and still it gets me to a point of a tight abdomen, and terribly sore lower back. Both sides, so thinking it is my kidneys? I am just guessing.
Oh to be able to eat normally again!
You know I used to be such a foodie.🙄😢

Oh, Rebecca. I'm so sorry. This has gone on long enough! I hope you can get some answers and some relief.
Katla, so disappointed to hear about your husband. I hope he is able to get some help and healing so he can return to you quickly.

I hope things improve soon, Katla. How frustrating for you. Sending much love.
Lisa - the menopause, surgically induced, and then tamoxifen after cancer did for my fringe. It was just sopping wet all the time!
When I had dark hair my mum used to call it my Cleopatra look.
Me and my brother when I was about 37.
DH was so happy with the kids this evening. Best birthday choice for him. They so adore him. They had drawn him cards and made little model hearts from Fymo. On the way there Edie and I had a long girly chat. She very much approved of his flowery shirt. And my colour combo.
When we got home we had a couple of the wonderful drinks that his daughters had sent him and some of Edie's cake. Then he got a phone call from his daughter who lives in France. He had already spoken to his younger daughter earlier. So, a very good day.
We are determined to live our lives to the full while we can. Keeping fit and active is part of that. Plus not hoarding our savings. Our active life span is shortening rapidly, he is 77, and we want to pack in everything we can. You never know what tomorrow will bring.
One song I definitely want played at my 'celebration ' is, 'Enjoy Yourself, It's Later Than You Think'. Don't put your dreams off until tomorrow.

Rebecca - so sorry you are still having problems. That is miserable.
Katla - sorry to hear DH is in the hospital. Hope he is out soon.
Heather - looks like a wonderful birthday party for your DH.
Still smokey here but not as bad as yesterday when we had ash falling again. Hope we do indeed get rain on Friday. I am watering the pastures in hopes the grass will grow at least some. We are already feeding hay full time and that means it won't last as long and hay is really expensive here.
DD and I worked in our library reorganizing the closet this past weekend. We need to move things out of the living room and in there since we have company coming for Thanksgiving. I am going to Iowa for my cousin's 90th birthday the first weekend in Nov so need to get some things done now before I go.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA

Timely feature on the news the evening about "living funerals" and "near-the-end-of-life celebrations" - while the person is still alive to participate and hear what is said. Apparently living funerals are gaining in popularity. I didn't know they were a thing.3

One of my co-workers had one yesterday. (I wasn't able to attend because it was an hour away, and surgery recovery . . .) but I thought it was a great idea. He will likely not be here by Christmas -- pancreatic cancer which has spread aggressively. I'm not sure I want one because I don't have confidence that anyone would attend and that would be horrible, but I am hopeful that his was beautiful.

I have spent the morning trying to change which internet browser I use and can't find one that I can actually understand but Google. Tried Microsoft Edge and Firefox but just can't seem to get them to work like I want. I desperately want to delete Google Drive but there doesn't seem to be any way I can close it to delete. Yes, I have been to Youtube to try and find instructions.

messed up- sitting here waiting for the phone call from the wellness coach- figured she was running late, then I checked. The appointment is NEXT Monday at 2.
Daycare girl got extra snacks to keep her busy while I was going to be on the phone and I rushed through my lunch- Oh well.
Got to the wetlands early so did 92min/5.5 miles/12,250 steps.
Lunch was a tossed green salad with boiled shrimp(10) and a boiled egg on it.
Topped with fried crispy onions- Made a small one just like mine for dh- Nice to have him eat something healthy
Dinner-pork loin chop (3.5oz) and 1/2 cup rice. Usually dont eat the rice but enjoyed some today(more than burnt off that many calories today.
