I read in the paper that there would be a lighted tractor parade Saturday evening in town. My dog walking friend said that she and some friends planned to go. It reminded me of one I went to twenty years ago and remember fondly. At this point in my life I have no desire to drive anywhere in the evening and stand in the cold, so I looked on You Tube and found several lighted tractor parades to watch. They were delightful.
Allie, I think Carmine is the good looking one in the family photo.
I finally finished knitting the blanket for the great granddaughter who asked for one and her sister decided she would like one, too, so I started it this week. The first one in teal and black and the second will be pink and purple. They are not holiday gifts so I can send them whenever.

I spent time with DH yesterday. Our daughter brought him a new warm coat. He wasn’t feeling energetic to try it on. It looked huge to me. I hope. he will be feeling good enough to try it on.
She was in the process of bringing me home when we were stopped by a Christmas parade. It was a pleasant surprise.4 -
Allie, Carol, Pip and everyone who posted holiday snaps, thank you! Such lovely families... It's a pleasure to see your people and pets. Here's a quick snap of Levi and his happy mama. They were at one of Paula Deen's restaurants on the way to Florida for Thanksgiving.
Corey's awake and drinking coffee in bed, time for me to actually accomplish something. I feel as if I've been treading water for months, and I need to do something. Hopefully today will be that day.
Cecilie, Norway, welcome! There is both a peacefulness and a determination that I find here in this thread that I find nowhere else in my life, and I visit every day. I don't always post, but I always read. It steadies me.
Hope everyone's Saturday is lovely and serene,
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR

Good morning all! Happy Saturday! I, of course, had plans for every day of this holiday weekend. However, I woke up yesterday with a knot in my stomach and spent the day in the bathroom and when not in the bathroom, sleeping or dozing under a pile of blankets. I feel a bit better today; but have been thinking about how coincidental it is that nearly every time I have a long weekend or vacation time, I spend part of it sick. I guess that is just my body's way of getting rest.?? So...I will whittle away at my list of things to do at home today. I will save my grocery shopping until tomorrow when I hopefully will be feeling 100%. DH and DYS seem fine; so I don't think it is the food itself, but maybe my body's reaction to foods I don't normally eat. I didn't overeat; but just must have eaten something that didn't sit well. Who knows.
Debbie- So sorry about your fall! Glad to see you are up and moving and are getting your injuries taken care of.
Karen VA- I loved the pictures you posted of your family! You are very pretty and look very happy in them! Your grands have gotten big so fast!
Machka- Thanks for the link to November 2018. It is interesting to read what we were doing and what our day to day was like four years ago. It is kind of like going back and reading your diary. I saw a few of Penny's posts and I do miss hearing her voice and viewpoints in our group. I love the star shower deco! There are a lot of those decorations that I think are quite lovely; but for me/my house impractical due to the many small hands that destroy things.
Heather- I love to hear about your relationship with your sons. Isn't it amazing to think about the change in the way we love our kids as they have grown? When they are small we love them, but it is almost overshadowed by the responsibility we feel toward them. Like we HAVE to love and care for them. But to have them grow into these interesting people we really enjoy talking to spending time with is a great gift.
Carol- Your family looks lovely! Is that your daughter and her husband?
Annie- I have noticed that about myself; that it takes me a lot longer to get ready than it used to. My DH as well. I tend to "move up" the time that we have to be places when telling DH. Otherwise he putters around and thinks he can shower and be ready in 15-20 minutes.
Allie- I love the pics of the family! I also like that Carmine's friend, Tobias, was friendly with Miles. I think that might have opened a door for Carmine to see that it is okay to show love or happiness with family. Because of the age difference between Carmine and Miles, their relationship could be very close or very distant. How it is will ALL depend on Carmine.
Rita- So glad you were able to be in touch with family for Thanksgiving! Technology is definitely something to be grateful for.
Mary- A big UGH on the fridge breaking down! I hope you were able to take advantage of some good black friday deals and get a new one!
Well, more of you I wanted to reply to, but my brain has turned to mush. Hugs to Rori, Barbie, Barbara, Tracey, Viv, Kate, Terri, Tina, Flea, Carla, Ginny, Rebecca, and anyone else I have missed.
Welcome to the new girls! ttyl xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)

Wow! What a day!
Started off normally. Exercise etc. Then phoned G who seems ok and resigned to her dysfunctional family.
She has a plan for Christmas.
Then my son texted to say he would be over at 2 pm to get the junk from the garage and take it to the dump. (He wants to store some boxes during his renovation) Good. I went into the garage and made a big pile for him.
I noticed a few things that I could Freecycle. Actually could sell, but I'm not registered on those sites and cannot be bothered. A brand new sunlounger, not out of the box, two folding beach chairs in carry bags, rarely used and two big wine racks, very solid and heavy.
Then I corresponded with DDIL about the grandchildren 's Christmas presents and have got everything now on order. Max is having mainly cash. He is 11.
Then the bell rang an hour early as my son had found out that the dump closes at 1.30. Mad panic to chuck it all in the car. All gone.
I photographed the better items and loaded them onto Freecycle. Gone in a flash! I'm sure they'll sell them, but who cares! Just dealing now with someone who wants the wineracks. Other stuff taken within 30 minutes.
So phew!!!
Nice to have the space out there.
Now to cook the tagine. I've started marinating the pudding, but will finish tomorrow. Too knackered.
This is the dress I've chosen for Bea.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxx5 -

Today I take Lucy for her update checkup to see how the toe is improving, hopefully she’ll be allowed to walk again, even if it’s for a short distance
I’ve put up one crate (the bigger of the two) in a corner with the door open so that they can go in there if they want. Usually, if they were not eating or going out to pee/poop they would go in their crate. They have now found their usual spot. They both get on this bed that is in the fireplace. I got that for $10 bucks at a yard sale thinking yogi would use it. He did but not much at all, so I was thinking of reselling it. Well, guess I won’t be getting rid of it now. :0)

Sorry about your tummy upset, KJ. Rest, rest, rest.
I so rarely see my elder son in person, but see and hear him all the time on YouTube, podcasts etc. He is a terrible correspondent, but I do WhatsApp him now and then with pics. I think we are getting on pretty well these days and supporting each other in our social media endeavours. I intend to go up to Nottingham in the early Spring for my usual quick visit. He is fine in small doses.
Loved all the holiday pics folks. Thank you!

24. challenge. I am grateful for the challenges I face every day. They make me stronger.
25. moment this week. All the contact from family and friends for Thanksgiving. Could see everyone, but heard from everyone!

27. daily use item.
28. what happen today.
29. friend/family member.

Quiet day yesterday watching movies. We actually got 2 inches of snow on the car but the following rain washed it all away.

Well, I got up my courage and weighed myself. Thanksgiving dinner put two pounds on me. I feel like my daily diet starts out okay,
with two eggs for breakfast,
then Greek yogurt and tea,
then for lunch oatmeal with blueberries and vegan protein powder.
And a touch of dark chocolate afterwards.
Then I need more fruit and veggies for my dinner calories and that is where I mess up. An apple and some broccoli or spinach would be perfect, but I never seem to eat like that. I need to work harder on getting the fruit and veggies to be more convenient. I have some apples, but I wonder how old they are.

Karen, big hugs. What Heather, Annie, Machka, Lisa said.
Lanette, your grateful attitude is inspiring.
Carla, prayer said, likewise big hugs
Carol great pic, but where’s your cornbread/biscuit dressing?
Rita, Rebecca, KJ  Hope you all recover quickly. KJ hope your DH and son step up to the plate and take something off your shoulders.
Shattzie (Cecilie in Norway) logging food is first big step. Let it become a habit, then add another baby step, perhaps walking the dog a little? As your food choices improve and you do a little more, you’ll feel better, honest!
Allie love the pic of Miles leaning into Carmine. Looks like they are shielding their baby brother.
Katla and Mary condolences on your freezer/refrigerator woes. An expensive hit to take at any time, but worse due the holidays. Hope you can get a good Black Friday deal.
Michele “Mashed potatoes in your hand are really good, so is cranberry sauce after you’ve squeezed it” made me choke on my tea!
Heather so sorry Johnny can be quite impatient with your walking difficulties, because he doesn't understand it. I’ve had two friends who could not moderate their pace to accommodate my abilities so I had to stop walking with them. Not an option for you and Johnny. Hope he can learn to understand without having to suffer the pain you do. That pic of your son, is he a lot more fit than he once was? Love the T-Shirt.
Lisa, love me some Levi!
Pip love seeing Lucy luxuriate on Yogi’s dog sofa.
Barbie that meme is so true. How many times a day do I remind me of your “Don’t take it personally.”
Annie have you tried switching things up? Having veggies with your eggs and putting the Greek yoghurt off ‘til evening for a dessert after a dinner salad?
Rita s-s-snow? Beautiful but relieved it washed away. Bet Beth wishes hers would

Lisa love the picture of Levi and his mother! Thanks for sharing.
Annie I always had a hard time with eating the breakfast, lunch, snack and then supper which still made me hungry for a snack in the evening. I was never really hungry when I ate in the morning but I just did it because the myth was that you should eat a good breakfast. In fact, most everybody has an idea of breakfast food compared to food that you can eat at supper time. When I instead did the intermittent fasting and had a five hour window to eat, it was very easy for me to start around 3 o’clock. I enjoy the normal bacon and eggs in the evening and 1200 cal is a lot during a five hour window of time. Figure out what is working for you and change what is not. Barbie has a great eating plan that works for her. I believe that she’s very regimented like the way you sound you are wanting to be. She could probably give you a good advice.

Barbara- Yes, he is back to cycling and coaching triathlons. Big thing! Years of anxiety and weight gain. Very painful. Huge courage . The greyhounds saved his life. Now he has more.
I am very proud of him

Lucy got the okay to walk 1/2 mile to see how she does and if she seems ok then we can increase to a mike. No more soaking paw in the salt water, that’s a relief. Today is my 3900 day logging streak!9

Pip Yay for Lucy!
Heather that is such a cute dress!
I had two glasses of water, some dark chocolate, a cup of warm spinach with goat cheese, and a cold lamb chop. I have thirty-five calories left, so that was dinner. Except I get more calories for dumbbells tonight, but the whole point is to not eat back those calories. Yay for the spinach!
Switching it up might help. I have to think about that. Thanks.
Or maybe a daily dinner smoothie. I found one with frozen mango, banana, spinach and almond milk. I could add fiber powder, too. I would just have to get used to deliberately "cooking" instead of just grazing. Surely I'm not too lazy to make a smoothie and clean up. That right there might be the issue. I'm lazy in the kitchen.

Today Lee wants our own turkey meal. Our new friends was nice and all, but everything was cold. So I will make the dressing and instant mashed potatoes and then stick in a Corning ware container and get crispy on the oven. The mashed potatoes do not though lol! Then a big tub of gravy. I will also make green beans w/bacon, yams and rolls. Mostly just opening cans, boxes and packets, adding water or butter. The trick is using every blasted container, pot and baking dish I own, because it seems I do!😂😂🙄.

Machka's Eating Plan
11:30 am - crackers and cheese (96 calories)
2 pm - rice, veggies and either chicken or chickpeas
Between 3:30 and 5 pm - yogurt (70 calories), fruit (50-100 calories) and perhaps another crackers & cheese)
So my total for the first half of the day is: 622 approx. calories. I will have also walked at least 2 km and likely climbed several flights of stairs.
Then I go home.
The first thing I do when I get home is walk Rhody. I'm usually out there for about half an hour walking a little and standing a lot.
Dinner is usually between 6:30 and 7pm, and is usually veggies with something.
And then a little later we have dessert - either chocolates or ice cream. We used to have both, but that's one of the adjustments we've made.
That brings me up to about 1600 calories. 1600 calories would be too much if I didn't exercise. To lose weight I need to be about 1400 calories. Fortunately, walking at lunch and climbing stairs helps.
If I were on my own, I would likely lose weight faster because I wouldn't have the chocolates/ice cream, or not as much as I do. My husband likes them, so he gets some out for me. That said, I've put some back on occasion.

Thanks Machka! It's cool to see what others are eating. I aim for 1100 calories, but I was eating way over. Way too many cookies and bad snacks. I need more intentional food and less grazing. I'm excited about trying this mango smoothie. I need to keep my expectations realistic. Hmm. I wonder if my little blender thingie is big enough.

I did my dumbbells! Yay! Thirty reps. And I didn't eat my calories back. Yay! Now we will see how Sunday goes. It's always a challenge. I switched from mint coconut milk ice cream to halo top mango sherbet so that should help. But if I'm going to do the mango smoothie I better find a different ice cream flavor for Sundays.

Meant to post this this morning but forgot to hit the button glad I had used the draft feature and I didn’t lose it. 😝
Good morning all. Taking an easy day today after a busy week. Was out all day on Monday, Tuesday morning I gave a workshop at craft, Wednesday morning grocery shopping and working on Christmas cards. Thursday we had our U3A Christmas party after lunch, and I went to an art demo after dinner, yesterday I had Latin study. Only 3 planned events next week.

12. texture. There are so many textures, but I love the sleek silkiness of my hair when it is newly washed.
13. abilities. I find it invaluable to be able to concentrate and focus on the positive, and use my analytical acumen. I can bring it to bear in finding the positive in unhelpful events. Learn from experience, so to speak.
14. sight. Literally grateful for my sight. I only have good sight in one eye due to a birth defect in the optical nerve in my left eye. I don’t miss what I never had, but am super aware of the importance of my one good eye.
15. season. Spring is my fav season. It’s a symbol of renewal.
16. about your body. My sturdy strength, and the ability to heal quickly.
17. knowledge. My happiness is entirely up to me. Happiness isn’t something that you have to put off until x, y, or z, or some event which may or may not happen. I look for happiness in simple things, a beautiful sky, birds singing, raindrops running down the window pane, autumn leaves. Also, it’s not my responsibility to make other people happy.
18. piece of art. Too many to list 😂

24. challenge. I relish the opportunity to play it forward by volunteering to lead groups for our local U3A, a lifelong learning charity. However , it can be a challenge to get other people to do their bit in the groups I lead. So many are happy to take, but find excuses when asked to reciprocate.
25. moment this week. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to our singing group, who were giving a short concert at the Christmas party on Thursday afternoon.

Well, much to my surprise, they didn’t say anything to me about coming in to BK so I texted that since they’re not expecting me, I wouldn’t go in. So that meant I got to exercise! I did Kathy Smith’s Lift Weights to Lose Weight. The plan for tomorrow is to do Amy Dixon’s Breathless Body DVD. After exercise, I went for a walk. Now have a pork roast in to bake for next week and to freeze
Katla – I remember buying my father a coat. I really wanted to get him a warm one but I also knew that he wouldn’t want me to spend a lot of money. So I spent it and told him I got it 50% off. So he accepted it. Maybe your daughter bought a large coat specifically with the thought that your husband can wear a sweater or sweatshirt underneath and still have room to move
Yea Annie. What did you have for lunch? What I do many times is get the plain yogurt (or make it) and add some FROZEN fruit. As the fruit defrosts, it leaves a “syrup” in the yogurt. That’s one way you can get your yogurt AND your fruit
pip – yea Lucy!!!
Think I’ll watch a little TV then take a shower.
Michele NC3 -
Regarding refrigerators and freezers— Ours are at our home in Oregon. They are in good working order, and we are far away. It is likely that we will bring them here to Illinois when the time is right. We don’t need them for now. We have wonderful friends in our neighborhood in Oregon who are checking up on the things that are in the house.3
-
Michele I had oatmeal with blueberries and protein powder for lunch. That's a good thought about fruit in the yogurt! I will try that.
