It's a frosty 33 degrees here right now. Big wind and rain coming tonight and tomorrow so I need to get things picked up and put away. I noticed one of the gutters on the shop is kind of coming loose - needs to be replaced and rain splatters by the door and seeps in a little. I think I've found a solution in the meantime. Crossing fingers we don't lose power.
Hard to believe temps were in the 80's here a couple weeks ago. Weatherman is projecting low 20's and possible snow middle of next week. Rosie has plenty of sweaters and DH's insulated sweatshirts I kept will come in handy.
I asked my 90 year old neighbor about his thermostat settings. He said 73f during the day, 67f at night. I'm aiming for 62f at night 66f daytime. I'm cautious what the electric bill will be without the woodstove going.
That's the latest. Make it a fabulous day!

We got our first rain on Tuesday and some yesterday then it got COLD-
I woke up freezing at 7AM- Alexa said it was 37 at that time. Not sure how cold it got down to during the night.
I do know that our heater has been set down to 62(so basically off) and it kicked in for the first time this fall.
I joked with my former hubby when we chatted yesterday- need to put either another blanket or another cat on me. Cats came all by themselves so after putting my fleece pj pants on and getting back in bed with the two blankets and three cats- I was nice and warm. Didn't want to get up.
Our bedroom is extra cold because we keep the window open either all the way or now, partially all year long because that is the opening to the catio. We will put up a clear shower curtain attached to the frame of the walkway of the catio soon that stops all the rain and most of the wind from coming in but also all the fresh air .

Happy anniversary Vicki!
I've been in a slump lately. My goal today is to get through without cookies and do my dumbbells tonight.
It's a beautiful day again today. Warm and sunny. So horseback riding should go well.
I made a pork loin last week- I put it over onions and carrots and some broth and left it on a low simmer on the stovetop. It came out very moist and less fatty than the chuck I use for pot roast. Excellent! So I had leftovers just now.
I'm enjoying Lisbon and Maui. Lucky ladies!

Lanette – We thought we’d have to pay for a new roof (probably about $30,000). But the insurance adjuster and the roofing guy came here, declared we had hail damage, so the insurance is paying all but our deductible. You might want to look into this.
Michele NC
Michele - thanks for the reminder. We put a new roof on this place when we moved in 15 years ago. Had a big windstorm and lost lots of shingles, so insurance paid for about half of it and we ponied up for the rest so got a break.
I've heard that in some areas of the country, places like BK and McD's only have drive through going because of short staffing. I think we're doing fine out here in WA State, at least along the I-5 corridor. Prices are probably shooting up. I haven't been to a burger place since DH died. I could at least get him to eat a quarter pounder once a week - any way I could get protein down him was a blessing.

I had a phone conversation with DH today. He is doing well in his new care facility. I haven’t visited there yet. There is a shuttle that can go there on Tuesdays, but I need to know a bit more about timing & the return trip. Asking pertinent questions is essential.6

Thanks ladies for the birthday wishes and condolences on my assault injury. For those that asked me for more information I put the short version in the spoiler! In the bathroom I asked her to please not talk on her phone. I then asked if she could finish her conversation outside so I could go because I couldn't go with her on the phone. She said no and entered the restroom. I went to the main door and held it open to look to see if they had a family bathroom out there but didn't see one. My husband was in the men's room directly across from where I was standing so I yelled to him to see if he could guard the men's room while I used it or look further down the hall where the employees had offices. I couldn't leave the restroom because I am starting to become incontinent and didn't want to risk an accident. Without warning the lady slammed me into the wall and knocked me off balance and my left arm goes up and she ends up across from me facing me. I said to her, " you just assaulted me", and she responds, "I can do worse". I look to the right and see a man coming my way and I think that I'm being saved only to find out that is her husband and he saw my left arm go up and he thought that I punched his wife in the face! He was already on the phone calling the police. I didn't call them because it would have been redundant so I waited. We walked out front because I wanted to meet them and talk with them because I wanted her arrested for assaulting me. Long story, short, the police officers treated me strangely. They definitely did not care what I had to say. 2 weeks later after we got the incident report we found out that the lady's husband was one of the volunteer police and fire chief Chaplins! I was in the emergency room the next day due to my injuries of my shoulder and neck area worsening overnight. I already had a neck and spinal issue to begin with. I haven't had issues for years because of my exercise routine. Now both of my arms go numb all the way down to my hands four to five times a night, my arm makes popping sounds. I cannot swing my kettlebell anymore. I have a hard time with bike riding because both of my arms fall asleep while I am riding. We tried everything to have her arrested, talked to their professional standards kind of like their internal affairs, talk to the police chief, called the mayor, and finally went to the FBI who said they would investigate them. The police officers actually lied on the internet report because they were trying to get me in trouble because they assumed that when my arm went up I assaulted there police chaplain's wife. And of course she didn't want to tell the truth because of her status. The FBI is still investigating. I was told the other day that the whole Surprise Police department is under investigation. A new Chief and 4 officer's have already been fired. My medical bills are high because I had insurance for major medical and it renewed every 6 months. I had an out-of-pocket of 5,000 for each 6 months. Now my bills are close to $10,000. I suffered in extreme pain up until I found the TENS unit on September 2nd. Added bonus, my face is now completely wrinkle free! I'm treating my forehead because of migraines and have only had 3 break through in 2 months of use. That saves me $600 every 3 months that I use to pay to get Botox shots to prevent them! I start physical therapy on the 21st! Sorry so long!

Dropped my car off then went to WalMart. Now waiting to get it back. Got Vince to go to WalMart. Good thing I didn’t have to get much. He hates to shop.
Rori – peaceful pic!
Vicki – happy anniversary
Couldn’t go for a walk after dinner. Did I happen to mention how much I hate it getting dark so early??
Lanette – when we were in VA, this was not on the highway, Vince stopped at a 5 Guys. He had a small hamburger, fries, and a soda. The bill? $17. Talk about prices going up! It’s a good thing I bring my own food
Got car back. Afterwards stopped at Belk on the way home. I got Jess 3 handtowels for her bathroom for free for Christmas.

Barbara, thanks for the birthday wishes. I was in a funk so kind of kept it on the down low.
Beth, thanks for asking about my mom. She is doing well physically and has her good and bad days mentally. Overall, she is ok.
Mary, thanks for the explanation. That is some crazy stuff! I’m so sorry it happened to you.
I am doing much better. Have actually gotten over 10,000 steps yesterday and today. I’ve also followed my boundaries for 3 days straight.1 -

Sunrise here is 8 AM this week so my walk that starts at 5:45 AM is all in the dark. Our roads are flat and well paved and we see no more than three vehicles the whole time, so it's a safe walk. Next week the sunrise will go back to 7 AM and gradually get later until it's back at 8 AM by the end of December when it will gradually get later. I love the aloneness and the peace of walking in the dark. I also love all the daylight in the summer. The changing of the seasons pleases me.

Back to the gym for me and it feels good. Feel as if there is enough space for social distancing. Reading a book for book club and then hope to read a quick romance....with a book store or hotel or cafe or historic house or maybe near a beach!
Best,
Rosemarie from Georgia3 -
Rebecca--Glad you have a date for your surgery. Sounds like you have things under control until then.
Heather--Beautiful picture.
Katla--One day a week is a start and pray your DD or something else can be arranged for other days.
Joint Commission is done and we passed, so glad that is out of the way. So back to cleaning things up from the computer down time.
Sounds like we are to get some rain and snow starting tonight for the next several days. Today is our 38th anniversary. DH sent me some beautiful flowers at work and we are planning on going out for supper this evening. Not sure where the years went.

30 Days of Gratitude
1. Smell - freshly cut grass on our lawn.
2. Technology - the amazing advancements in medical technology.
3. Colour - blue. Beautiful blue sky peaking through the clouds.
4. Food - soup. That's what I've been eating just recently because there's less chewing. We always keep a few cans of soup on hand for situations like these.

Machka fortunately the second nose surgery (Mohs by a gifted female surgeon) was far less painful than the first (grumpy old man dermatologist). Hope you get the less painful option!
Terri pulled the winter clothes out yesterday too. Now to pack the summer ones away…
Heather Hooray indeed! Brilliant! Really enjoying your cruise, thanks!
Karen haven’t heard any details yet, but like you I assume there were either substances involved or perp was trying to flee. Had to be going like hell to shove a parked car six feet.
Lanette s s snow??? We fired up the wood stove the first day it rained… and “20 years ago I probably would have horned in on the conversation with something like "so are we still on for a nooner today or what?" a real tea-snorter!
Pip where’s the potty?
Katla how exciting that next week you can both ride a bus to visit DH and see your long time friend. ((hugs)) and prayers continue.
Beth “. . . [parents] were probably 40 in the picture but that is how I'll always remember them in my mind.” Ditto, and that’s how I see them when I dream of them too. ((hugs) and prayers for your mom and you.
Rita Amen, sister amen!
Michele Medicare pays for blood work associated with my annual exam, but the Dr.’s office has to code it right. Last time it was not just cholesterol and lipids, but liver function, kidney function, vit D vit B fasting blood glucose etc etc etc. The year before I had to call the Dr’s office twice to get it straightened out and billed right. Go get ‘em.
Rori ooh! Thank you for sharing that beach! Warmed my soul if not my toes…
Vicki Happy 38th anniversary! Well done for passing inspection despite computer systems having been down so unexpectedly and long.
Debbie brr! Its been getting down into the high 30s here, cannot imagine sleeping next to an open window, no matter how many cats piled on!
Annie any day I can make it through without cookies is a WIN.
Allie sleeping through the night? Yay! Walking? Uh oh!
Mary thank you for sharing the horrific details. Brava for finding the silver (TENS) lining. Prayers for successful PT.
Kay 2 10+K days in a row! Well done!
Rosemarie Brava for persisting on the elliptical!
Karen the Lilybelle pic and the earlier ones of the Miracle Olivia and her brother Phoenix?
Alone time, like Rebecca when her Chief goes to the gym, or Barbie’s peaceful quiet walks in the morning dark, is something I relish. Alas, Joe is a homebody so I rarely get to enjoy the house to myself. When he does go, its my window to do those things whose noise sets his nerves on edge, like laundry and [shudder] vacuuming. I really hate to squander that precious time on chores
Gratitude:
1: Smell: The woods outside our home.
2: Technology: like Lisa said, the unexpected blessings of being able to connect with friends here and far away.
3: Color: Clear jewels, Aquamarine, Sapphire, Emerald, Amethyst, Ruby.
4: Food: La Brea sourdough baguette (max 49 g a few times a week but oooh so good!)
8.
The woods outside our home

My specialist appears to be really well qualified, very efficient, a good communicator and nice too. I wish I could find a GP like that! I'm not sure if she does Mohs, but I'll ask.
